- This is part 7 of a 100% walkthrough of Banjo Kazooie (XBLA version). This part includes Mad Monster Mansion. This is one of my all-time favorite games and I just recently decided to purchase the Xbox Live Arcade version of it. This walkthrough is going to be a relatively quick 11 part series.
This channel features instructional & highly edited video game guides, walkthroughs, speedruns and other uniquely transformative videos. My own personal gameplay, extensive editing & creative input are clearly added into each video, ensuring that all videos adhere to TH-cam's partner program guidelines. I'm a new fan and I think this game has aged spectacularly.
How was it ahead of its time? I love this game but not sure what it did that was groundbreaking since these kinds of games went the way of the dodo after the early 2000s.
I think this game aged very very well. I bought the mario 3d all stars collection and I have to admit that super mario 64 isn't as much fun as banjo kazooie, the graphics, the camera, the controls and the gameplay, everything feels somehow better in bk. But maybe it's cuz I'm playing it on xbox one x, idk
@@marcelloi.8309 I agree I like Mario 64 but Banjo Kazooie and Tooie along with Spyro and Ratchet and Clank are my favorite 3D platformers due to the better controls and more variety.

Ahh memories, I remember playing banjo kazooie every day with my brother when I was a kid, the ghosts in the maze always used to scare the shit out of me and I would purposely avoid going in there 😂

Rare REALLY knew how to design games back then. Memorable characters, memorable music, top notch level design and model sculpting using limited polygons, and those gorgeous textures. I expected this game to look dated now, but it still looks beautiful to this day.

Literally my favorite development company grabbed it yhe ghoulies was my first Xbox game fell in love and now I'm super stooked to play sea of thieves when I see that R logo...I KNOW I'm in for a good time
Agreed, except about the visuals holding up. You realize the Xbox Arcade version of the Banjo games are upscaled HD right? The original N64 versions on an older TV looks pretty bad by today's standards.

I think that the best part about this game is the sound effects. They are so well done :)
Unfortunately, this type of genre is a dying breed. This is why I still consider the N64 days as the ones that I remember most fondly.

Oh me to bud. N64 was easily my favorite console of all time so far. I still play it with my brother whenever I go back home to visit family. We are currently half way through Zelda Ocarina of Time for our 12th play through (rough estimate)
Benjamin Carlson I wish Rare Ltd. had produced some good games when they were purchased by Microsoft. They were easily my favorite video game developer aside from Nintendo. It felt strange playing this game with the xbox 360 controller. Despite it's flaws, I would have preferred using the N64 controller still while playing this game.

LOL after years of playing FPS games on xbox 360 I went back to my original one with my brother, also on N64, and I think also made by Rare which was Golden Eye. I loved the controller for N64 when I was a kid, but now I had a hard time with the whole one joystick thing. Now that I think about it Rare was a great company. Didn't they also make the Donkey Kong games on supernintendo and N64?

The C-buttons worked fine for controlling the camera (worked as a 2nd control stick) in Banjo-Kazooie. Rare made all of the Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES as well as Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Donkey Kong 64. They also made Diddy Kong Racing & Jet Force Gemini. They produced a lot of games on the NES as well, but most of them I have never played. Most of the games that they made that I played were among my favorites on that console.
I remember wakig up early on saturdays as a kid with my dad and brother to play :') memories i will never forget

I honestly don’t think there’s ever been a level in a video game that’s captured the spirit of Halloween/spooky quite like this did. I took a trip to a ghost town recently, and all I could hear was this music, lol. Incredible work the developers did here. I truly wish we still had a reason to pull this kind of thing off.

7:42 if you do an egg drop behind the big green ghost and at the right timing get the jiggy you’ll get a bonus random object. Believe me on this one I’ve done it for years!
This stage always scared the hell out of me as a kid. Especially the maze. I always felt trapped and avoided playing this stage. Hahaha

@@blackjack96760 One’s age certainly matters. Gruntilda was the one who made me feel that way the most though, and I experienced that feeling each time I got a game over, especially whenever I played this game at night. 😄 It was quite satisfying when I eventually took her down.

used to scare the shit out of me this level as a kid especially when creeping for the jiggy where the ghost in the house is, i thought if he hears you you die an id never enter that house ffs
Lol, yeah I was like that when I was younger too, but fortunately Creeper doesn't attack or kill you, he just guards the jiggies and if you step on the creaky floor boards it wakes him and you can't get it until you leave and re-enter again.
13:50 Out of all those Transformations, this has been the only one to not be Another Animal, but rather an Inanimate Object. Banjo Tooie was quite the Opposite, having more Inanimate Objects that Other Animals.
Basically only Terrydactyland and Cloud Cuckooland had them transformed into other animals (unless you also include Mayahem Temple, where Banjo - a bear - became a Stony version of himself).
Oh let's not forget that one time Mumbo transformed him into a washing machine for a few seconds hahaha
That's true and all of Banjo Kazooie's Transformations had more than one purpose besides being used in worlds (Besides Walrus Banjo), Termite, Crocodile, Pumpkin and Bee Banjo are proof of this.

as a child I just remember being terrified of this level and as an adult I just have to commend Grant for his soundtrack. I love this one so much. But also, this level is fun as hell. And the poop joke is hilarious.

An interesting coincidence is that Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, and Conker's Bad Fur Day all have their seventh worlds set up as horror-themed areas. Mad Monster Mansion, Creepy Castle, and Spooky. I never thought about why the number seven had something scary to do with it, though.

Love this game, but this level is absolutely contemptible. I’ll watch this as I am going through the level again and maybe that will help me find what I have missed. The kicker.... 99 music notes.... 99.

Hopefully they add Banjo Tooie to Switch online like they did Banjo Kazooie. I played these games soooooo much in the 90s. Way more than I played Mario 64. Plus I would replay certain levels during the holidays in both banjo games like this level for Halloween and Freezeezy peak for Christmas plus fire&ice world in Tooie for Christmas.
The Jiggy at 20:15 , I just get on top of the big hat then jump off and land on the nose . You can break that glass with the kazzoie attack. Or whatever that move is call. A lot easier to do and saves time for sure.

Well, Mad Monster Mansion is where Grunty use to live before she moved to Spiral Mountain for some reason.

@@ricardocantoral7672 I'm not sure, but if you look at some of the paintings inside Mad Monster Mansion it shows pictures of a Creepy Mumbo Jumbo and the Hat Tower outside of Gruntilda's lair when you look at it from Spiral Mountain and behind the gate there Gruntilda's face on it behind the start amd exit pad or inside the shed there a Gruntilda squares between the letters.
There’s a poster for this world that shows Grunty shooting fireballs at Banjo and Kazooie

this is really random, but I have to wonder if anyone else feels this way specifically about rareware games: thinking back to these games during my childhood, they always felt bigger than they actually are. i'd have dreams where i'd find a new hidden secret world or area within donkey kong 64 or banjo kazooie, then try those out once I woke up and turned on my n64. for whatever reason, I always felt *so sure* that id find these areas i dreamt up but never did obviously.
i dunno, i'm rambling, but specifically these rareware games, maybe its their level design or something, they just feel like strange, almost liminal, and i felt that in the lobby for mad monster mansion. youre inside whats supposed to be a giant tower built into the side of a mountain yet youre in this strange field with grass, a seemingly open sky, its so weird.
i dont think any of this made any sense but if someone could dissect what im saying and convert it into something sensical please do that for me

Billy MCFC outside the world the the west of the entrance is a gate you can smash to get back there as a pumpkin. Inside the house is a Mumbo Hut and you dive bomb the coffin open. It’s inside
You had to open up Mad Monster Mansion world, head to it, but before you enter, you need Kazooie to peck the gate so it busts open so Pumpkin Banjo can get in there and Transform back to Normal Banjo to open up the coffin in the centre of the room.
how do you get mumbo's skull under that tentacle right after the first bird you get (blue). you can see it shine in your video but idk how to get. 25 seconds through 38 seconds
It really bums me that the piano keys don't reproduce the correct sound in this version of the game, but it used to do so in the N64 game! Still I love this game and this world

Nah, it wasn’t ahead of its time: it was released at just the right time.
I remember I was fairly young when it came out and was impressed at how unprecedented the N64 Platformer titles were, and I was jealous of my friends who owned this game upon its release.
(Ya see, my bro and I didn’t get an N64 (cuz my mom said it was too expensive), but we did have the PS1 and played the Hell outta the Spyro trilogy).
Fun Fact: According to Grant Kirkhope, Mad Monster Mansion's theme was inspired by Danny Elfman's Beetlejuice movie original soundtrack.

They took a lot out of the N64, but ik you can find it in the updated one for Xbox 360.
You mean the Stop and Swop Secret pics yeah, Mumbo shows when you get all 100 Jiggies in this game, but Mumbo tells you to find out how to find and open them in Banjo Tootie (You never do), but both versions of Banjo Kazooie do tell you how to find and open them by finding the cheats in the games code (but it's easier to look up a guide other people did on TH-cam)

@@cutemimi25 You're welcome and when you get and play Banjo Tootie and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts special eggs and creates will appear on the Stop and Swap spots throughout Showdown Town to find and take to Mumbo's Motors for some fun and cool extras.

The key notes on the organ in xbox doesn't change compared to the n64. I remembered that they had different tones when competing with mozhand
I CAME HERE FOR THIS COMMENT! I am playing this on the Xbox port at the moment, for the holidays, and the fact that the notes don't change to match the level's music is PAINFUL. 😖

Ok, I officially need help now! The gate door at 17:18 is closed, how do I open it? I also need to find out how to unlock click clock woods. I can't put the jiggys in the painting so I need to know where to find the note door to unlock that. This is the xbox version as well. Please help!
The door at 17:18 you need to open yourself by using kazooie's beak to break it. Then return there with the pumpkin to get into the small hole of the doorway.

I played through this level, but it says I only have 91 notes, even though I just did everything you did? Is that glitch fixable or do I have to start from scratch?

those green ghosts were indeed annoying and took me some time to how figure out the way to kill them.
