Glad it fired up. You're gauge probably has some pins inside the gauge where they are soldered to the board probably has cold joints. I had a similar issue with these gauges hard to see with the naked eye so I got a digital microscope from Amazon to inspect and sure enough they were broken just had to resolder them and works like new again.
UTV sounds like it's running great. 👍👍
I’ve learned so much from watching this channel. I have an older Polaris ATV and this gives me confidence that I’ll be able to identify and possibly fix whatever it needs (within reason) keep it up Joe I’m sure there’s a lot of people like me that watch every video.
I’m a newbie watching as much as I can to catch up. Between this channel and Mustie1 I oughta be able to fix anything that runs on gas 😀
For what you have into it, that's really not bad at all. It's no screaming rocket by any means, but it is a grumbling growler.. nice work Joe
You did it the right way to make sure the piston, rings, cylinder, valves and valve seals were good to go. But seeing those oil rings a little stuck as the most likely culprit for the smoking issue, it is possible some Marvel Mystery Oil mixed with oil and fuel could have possibly done the trick without the need for a top end rebuild. Nice work and nice result.
Broooo I finally found a fresh video right when it came out, I love this stuff and just grabbed me a 97 Timberwolf 2x4, after all of the videos I’ma try and do most of the work on it myself gettin the motor running good and not boggin, really thankful for all the info and content you do. Thanks man and keep it goin🤟🏼
Awesome to see the Yamaha up and running no smoke no more great workhorse good to go for another life time 💪🏻
Your face was priceless when you pulled the key out and she kept turning over. Thanks for the videos.
Good work Joe. The tailgate chains could use sleeves to keep the new lenses looking pretty 😊
Like your content in your videos you take your time going through detail which I like don’t do a whole lot of repairs on small engines but what you do I’m learning more and more 👍🏻parts aren’t cheap though unless I get them through the web than some times o don’t get the right parts
Great job, Joe! Glad to see it worked out well in the end for you.
Thanks for the cool video!
I think it's time for you to go to the next level and purchase a micrometer to measure cylinder bore diameter and taper.
As far as honing goes the expandable is the best for removing very slight taper, the ball hone is only used for cross hatching the bore.
A clean engine is a happy engine.
Ι admire your videos so much thanks to your videos sometimes I'm like it happened to him the symptoms look the same maybe it's that and most of the time it's the same so thank you for showing us all this amazing stuff
Love the cheaper SxS videos. I came for the dirt bike stuff but have learned a ton about quad and 4 stroke engines in general. Love the channel!
I saw mecanics take a rim air valve stem to push on the carb valves to grind them, (39th minute in the video), pushing instead of pulling on them still with the drill! But its really up to the guy doing the job to go by the way he likes, thanks for the video you helped me a lot🙂 Very useful!
I'm pretty sure I could watch a video about brain surgery and somebody in the comments would say they're doing it wrong.
You have fun doing that by yourself. I won't do another one. Massive undertaking good luck. Bout 12 to 14 hrs. Great vid!😮
Wow wish my old Polaris CV axles were that easy. They have roll pins that you have to back out before pulling the axle and it's a nightmare to take off, especially an old one like a 2000 model. Great video good job.
Hey man great job on your channel. Keep up the hard work.
Thanks for making the video of your work. I learned a lot.
Just a tip for removing the valves. A small pen magnet makes dealing with those little valve keepers a breeze.
Plug your merch more man. I have been watching for months and didn't know you had merch! I'll be getting some!
Good work. It would be nice to see you completely clean this UTV.
Just stumbled across your channel love the videos man. Quality work. Wish I lived in your area I’d buy a SxS from you.
Great job as usual, I get a kick out of the so called pros telling u what u should do.
Damn you got all the UTV’s, Good to See You Living the Dream!
That bearing looks like it got hot! There to much play side to side. Needs a new crank. Look at the piston there’s a lot of scuffing on the sides. Great vid Joe. Keep up the good work.
As always, nicely done!
Great video. Love watching them.
awesome fix. I have 9400 miles on my 2006 660 engine has never been rebuilt and can still hit 54 MPH.
Great vid, things "shade tree mechanics" should be checking on their UTV's. Quick flip, or add to the fleet?
Love the videos keep up the good work
With how much you use impacts you should invest in a Milwaukee 1/2 inch impact. Works great for removing lug nuts and hubs
Those are great but do you think they have more torque than the pneumatic tool that he used?
@@T0tenkampf most definitely not. If you can use a pneumatic tool that’s good but some places or like not near home is what o was referencing too
Come on mate iv watched u for years but lost my account and you have just popped up on this one been watching u since early day when you and your bro used to race up and down street on cr80 vs a 85 or 125 cc glad I found u again man
Shouldn't the ring gap be checked after honing the cylinder?🤔
have to appreciate how Joe drives past the camera just to get the shot and has to go back to pick it up. Am I watching 2vintage or Les Stroud ? :D
52:09 😂😂 have to weld up that exhaust
Rhino 660, best side by side I've ever owned. Most fun too.
Love your content! You got to get some Milwaukee m12 ratchet and m18 Fuel impact..save your hands!
Very cool you fixed it… clean add a grand to its value just a thought. Not to mention the grime compounds heat!
Good JOB,all the BEST from WALES UK 👍👍
The ball hone is made as a clean up hone to give you the proper cross hatches
I'm the opposite of mechanical, but watching this is highly entertaining and hoping your genius will rub off on me a bit
In my book your a master mechanic freak the haters brotha
This guy is awesome. Love his videos. Would love to have his set of skills and level head
Joe it could use a stock muffler.
love the videos. Harbor freight should sent you one of there offroad jacks then you wouldn't have to drag your big jack around.
Great video as always
50:45 sometimes if the battery is really low the gage could act up like that if you don't have good voltage going to it. 👍😎
Just had an idea: instead of paying rent on storage lockers, why not build your own at 'the land', then you could build them the way you want and the size and number you need, they look like cinder-block cubes with garage doors, in other words, easy to do, and you could clean out the garage at home.
I see your workshop is getting quite packed. If you dont build a house on the land then maybe build a giant workshop in the middle and then your test track could circle around it 👍
You need a shipping container on "the land" to protect your toys!
Not a bad idea. I'm hoping to get a poll buying built before winter! Searching around for companies that build them now.
The 2004-2006 Rhinos are highly sought after here in Alaska. They are hard to break. Use mine for plowing and logging.
I would assume if the piston was changed and the heat mark on the crank, I'd like to believe it's been rebuilt as they will heat the one side up and press it out, great video buddy 👌👍
why didn't you power wash the engine before taking it apart
thats my step 1 for restoring anything, thanks to The Apocalyptic Inventor
I have that same jack! It has magic powers!
Slowly turning into survivorman with with these camera angles . Always entertaining 👍
You are living the dream 💙👌🏾
Subjective question here- someone in your shoes skill wise: in a previous comment you mention this as a long job…. Is it fair to say too end rebuilds are a time consuming job (related to sxs vs atv Vs bike) but not technically difficult?
Or do you rate this harder because there could potentially lots of little gotchas that like ring gap, timing, proper torque settings etc.?
1:50 pm. Hello. Got a 96 Polaris 300 that makes a clunking noise in reverse only? Bad front sprocket? Won't climb steep grades either
Dang that thing is noisy! Normal Rhino sound, needs a silencer on it. Great job man.
If yo want to diminish the amount of bugs you have on your land get some of those large traffic cones or cylinders and wrap them with giant fly tape they sell it especially around your home you’d be surprised how many insects you remove from your area it works around cattle and others and they create tons of insects try it
Hey brotha how do you feel about niche cylinders with wiseco pistons? Wondering what your experience has been with it
I notice everything that you work on. Do you sell online too?
The side by side or quad??
A little carb. spray or Ether generally helps start any engine, even brake clean will work...
Great video that shifter nob has seen better days
these things are beasts.
i run the largest active Rhino fan page/help group in the world, and i currently own an 06 660.
i know these machines like the back of my pecker, if you ever need to find something or want some insight on thier quirks, let me know man.
( i typed alottt on the first vid, timestamped, all the problems, parts, everything youd need & need to know as the video went & it did not post/deleted itself, not doing it 2x) lol
Do you deep clean after cleaning the cylinder/head or is that not necessary for a engines?
Joe, You are fearless
Switch fuel pumps from vacuumed to electric. Starts faster and better performance no bog on takeoffs and more power when you need it.
I'd just put A bead of clear silicone around the face plate. Of the dash digital gauge cluster unit to seal up.,an block out moisture from getting inside of it anymore.
I never purchased an actual breaker bar, I always double wrenched it or found a pipe that fits over the ratchet handle lol
Man lot of cry babys on here stop telling him what to do live your own life hes doing fine great house good women lots of land seams super happy great video
Have you ever worked on a polaris xpress 300 and are they worth messing with
Why are the front tires on backwards compared to the rear tires? Tread is going different directions? Is that for reversing in sand or mud?
be glad the grizzly 600 engine components are cheap. I rebuilt a raptor 600 recently and HOLY CRAP those parts are getting scarse. Had to get a matching head/valve cover because of the cam journals being messed up on the originals. USED on ebay costed me $700 🙄. This was after ordering a grizzly 600 set only to find out the intake and exhaust ports are different. OOF! lol
When the battery is Dead, which jumper pack are you using?
Make sure that’s not a after market key switch. My Honda had same problem with screen.
Why replace the piston at all if the one in it is in great shape? Why not just rings and gaskets? Just curious.
Great work Joe! You should take your wedding ring off when working around anything mechanical or electrical. Many people have lost fingers because of their wedding ring!
Ignition switch? Maybe that also caused starter to stay on.
When it craked forever with the starter stuck, what did you do to get it to start with one turn of the key?
The ignition is probably faulty, causing the gauge to be temperamental and the starter to jam the way it did
Just a question as i’m about to do the same on my UTV, are we supposed to grease the CV axle where it goes into tranny? and where you put the wheel on?
There’s more to be annoyed at than dirty vehicles with joe he’s no professional but it’s fun content. If you want to learn correct procedures their are actual professional videos online or even manuals. I’m more annoyed he’s using a reducer on a breaker bar for them wheels 😂
Nice video!
You really need to spend some money on some decent power tools bro love what you do but those cheap impact guns have had there day!! Treat yourself you deserve it 💪🏻
why don't you grease the part after you fit them ?
Ok, lets see the blooper reel on this one. At least one wrench had to have been thrown! lol 🖐- --=====🔧
Word of wisedom, before purchasing compression check it! It’ll save you 95% of your headaches
I always have a battery, socket set, and a can of starter fluid. And compression tester. If the customer won’t allow you to check it out, then walk away, more like run.
Usually the non running low compression machines is all he buys... can gey them cheap fix and flip.. some of the best atvs I had came in pieces lol
I’d be curious to know what the old rings gapped at.
AT 17:00 just curious, why did u hit the wrench with the hammer? u could have just got another wrench and hocked it on the end and use that.
I'm looking for a side by side to buy. Which one should I buy?
Where online do you find the specs and manuals for all these vehicles?
is it tunned like that to gently take off from a stop ? or is it you ? or clutch problem ? exhaust sounds hollow
Check the ground connection in the gauge 49:40
Just seen you listed it for sale Facebook marketplace...
Well does it have alittle more power then before.
660, put the 686 big bore on it, massive power difference. My father in law has that same sxs. Physically great shape, motor hurting for power. Took a weekend and did a 686 upgrade on it. Now it's even more obnoxiously loud than before, but tons of power at the ground. Nice find. They still can't compete with the Can Ams but decent low end utvs.
Needs a jbs clutch
