    Mobs used to have POSITIVE 5% magical damage reduction that is why the wiki now says -20% as it was a 25% reduction from 5%. This also has only affected normal mobs so bosses and minibosses still have 5% and up magical damage reduction

      Thank you! That was the other part that had me confused, because while I knew they had +5% MDR pre-hotfix, reading the the hotfix they said that it was changed from, "0 to -25%". The "0" threw me for a loop and for some reason my lil brain couldn't put 2 and 2 together, I pinned your comment for others to see! :D

      I thought I saw somewhere that bosses are unintentionally -25% as well atm but idk how to confirm that, so it could be a bug that gets/has been fixed.

      as another note hydra (and treant also) now have -20% mdr, which actually significantly buffs hydra-lifedrain healing since you deal more damage to the hydra with the spell now

    The DnD community is so small and niche rn, and nobody is really making technical videos like this. These are the best out there by far, so thanks for taking the time to make them! Love the outfit, too. I only get magic advice from real witches.
    Also, question about the -25% and -22% damage reduction on mobs. Using the damage calculator on the wiki and putting in a value for armor/magic pen on negative damage reduction calculates less damage than if you had 0% penetration. Is that accurate to how damage works against mobs in the game? I think it's calculating that if you have 10% armor penetration, you're actually ignoring 10% of the -22% damage reduction on mobs. I hope I explained that well enough that it makes sense.

    • @Barbooian
      @Barbooian  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi! I'll do my best to answer your question. When a target has -armor/-magic resist, having armor pen/magic pen actually protects the target because you are reducing their negative resist, which is why the calculator is spitting out a lower number for a negative-resist-mob being hit with pen. So in short, having armor pen/magic pen against mobs is effectively doing less damage to them than if you had no pen to begin with.

      @Surxe Not sure if I can link it directly here, but if you go to the dark and darker wiki and find the "Damage" page, the table of contents lists "Calculator" which links to an open source damage calculator.

    thank you breaking down the stats and making these videos! i dont understand 100% of the numbers, but it helps me actualize the soft and hard caps instead of staring at a stat screen on the wiki. thank you again! a note to add would be IF possible(to visualize numbers) include the target dummy examples. its an extra amount of work and im not expecting you to so dont stress!

      MrDan! You have been one of the sweetest comments giving a suggestion. I will do my best to apply what you are requesting, but first I have a few comments for you as well as questions so I can better help and understand you! My videos build on information I have gone over in previous videos, and so some of my numbers can understandably get confusing if previous videos haven't been seen first. (If you are interested, I suggest watching my videos in order, EXCLUDING the bard video, loot guide, "will stat debuff not working", and my cave troll video.)

    If you get the chance to make a guide for poison weapon rogue and the most optimal build for high damage poison ticks that would be a banger. Just a basic guide or using it as an example in another video would be great if included. VERY EPIC VIDEO SUBBED

    Just a quick tip for those who play duo/trio with a bard you only need 35 from magic power bonus to hit a the soft cap of 40/53% if they have rousing rhythm and story teller so you can build your kits more optimized with that in mind

    Idk if its a hot take, but in my opinion hit scan does not belong in the game. Ive been saying this since warlock curse mastery started to be a thing. Theoretically there is no counter to someone with really good aim. With projectiles there is much greater impact from dodging, since there is no certainty that they will hit even with perfect aim. With hit scan perfect aim = guaranteed hit.

    • @snowywhistle2114
      @snowywhistle2114 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      guaranteed hit with the exception of shields. while not all classes have access to the pavise it does perfectly hard counter hit scan magic. while I personally think that select class hard counters like iron will are bad game design, it is important for us to consider using them.

    Attribute ratio bonus isn't entirely hidden as the wiki claims, and while the wiki is useful, it's better to trust the game. After the damage numbers on spells and abilities, there will either be a decimal in brackets, or not.
    If there is a decimal in brackets, that decimal is the attribute ratio bonus, for example it would be written as "Deals 20 (0.75) damage to the target" for zap.
    Alternatively, if there isn't a decimal in brackets, the attribute ratio bonus is 0, for example it would be written as "Channel a swarm of locusts in a target area within 7m for up to 6s while remaining still, dealing 13 Divine Divine Magical Damage per second".
    The only example that is exempt from this rule is weapon damage, which always will have an attribute ratio bonus of 100%. This includes both physical and magical weapon damage.
    Also additional magic damage's only value is that body part modifiers apply to it, which is important because projectile and melee magic damage sources are affected by body part modifiers. This means that hit scan spells like zap or curse of pain, while they will get the additional damage, won't get the body part modifiers, making additional magic damage just worse than true damage, since true damage goes through resistances. Meanwhile, something like a crystal sword, or like magic missile, will get more, or less damage, depending on if you hit the head shot, body shot, or limbs, meaning that headshots will give you more value than true damage in comparison, while limb shots will give you less value than true damage. That is assuming your opponent doesn't have a high magic damage resist, in which case true damage will always be better.
    That being said, ignite is considered hit scan damage that is applied on a melee hit, and not a melee damage source, so true damage is just better.

    Do you have any video covering spellbook vs magic staff vs ceremonial staff casting speed? I have heard many different claims about this.

    • @Barbooian
      @Barbooian  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! In my will/knowledge video i broke down the different interactions of these stats and what they governed. Because knowledge governs spellcasting speed i included a brief explanation for the common misconception on different casting items appearing to cast at different rates. It comes down to a difference in animation speed (which is governed by action speed, not knowledge). So in theory you could speed your magic staff up through a combination of spell casting and action speed (make the spell casting bar load faster, and then "release" the spell faster upon the bar's completion through action speed). I encourage you to go check it out as will and knowledge influence a lot more stats in the game than many players realize (more-so will).

    Hi Barbooian, great video! Just wondering how the Crystal Sword works - does the 'magic weapon damage' of the Crystal Sword act as the base damage, and abilities or spells such as Blow of Corruption and Ignite count as the 'Magical Weapon Damage'?

    • @matt-z5j
      @matt-z5j 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Magical weapon damage only applies to melee damage from swinging the sword. The damage however scales with magic power bonus and it applies onhit effects like additional magical damage. What makes it popular is the magical damage component of the weapon output since it ignores physical damage reduction and most melee classes tend to stack armor over mr.

    Can you please make a video JUST LIKE THIS for warlock spells? Hellfire, curse of pain, power of sacrifice (don't think this one scales)... these spells damage is so hard to understand when considering all the different damage modifiers! Like does true damage scale the dmg of hellfire? if so... by how much? I'm sure all warlock players share my desire for a good testing and data! Never know what stat I should be building...

      Requests like this one warm my heart. I have a list of different magical videos lined up that i need to begin researching/testing. I agree a comprehensive video for warlock is needed, but I can't say "when" i will be able to get around to it. Just rest assured i see and hear you and will do my best with the time i have to get to working on it. :)

      I'm no replacement for barbooian, but I can answer some of these questions.
      Damage over time in dark and darker is calculated by dividing the total damage by the number of ticks, and then dealing that much damage per tick.
      Hellfire does 60 damage per second, in ticks of 1/5th of a second. That means that the damage per tick is 60/5. 60/5 = 12.
      When adding damage, being either additional or true, you multiply the add/true by the attribute bonus ration, in this case 0.5. 8 x 0.5 = 4.
      Our new equation looks like (60 + 4)/5. (60 + 4)/5 = 12.8. Meaning that every 5th of a second you stand in hellfire, you'd be taking 12 magical damage + 0.8 true magical damage.
      Curse of pain does 15 damage over 8 seconds. That means that the damage per tick is 15/8. 15/8 = 1.875.
      Adding in our add/true damage into the equation, 8 x 0.5 = 4.
      Our new equation is (15 + 4)/8. (15 + 4)/8 =2.375. Meaning that ever second, you'd be taking 1.875 magical damage +0.5 true magical damage.
      Power of sacrifice has a attribute ratio bonus of 0, which means that as you guessed, it is uninfected by add/true damage.
      Hope this helps :)
