The DJI Mavic 2 series builds on the success of the Mavic Pro and and takes aerial photography and video to the next level. The Mavic 2 Pro features a Hasselblad camera with a 1" sensor. And the Mavic 2 Zoom features a 24mm - 48mm optical zoom lens to move you closer to the action. I've had an opportunity to fly and shoot with the Mavic 2 Zoom for several weeks now and have really enjoyed the upgraded flight experience that it offers and the amazing things you can do with the camera. The optical zoom is a feature you have to see to believe. And the new quick shots, hyperlapse and dolly-zoom are every bit as innovative and interesting as you would expect from a new DJI drone with a major software update. To me, this looks to be my new go-to drone for travel and any kind of non-professional shooting I plan to do in the future. Check out the video and see what you think. Please be sure to comment below and I will try to answer as many questions about the Mavic 2 Zoom as I can.

Thanks RSD
does it have a homing signal if lost does it have a > transponder at range indicator > true distance range > what temperature variances and mountainous elevations does it require a cellular provider
Good Video
Does it still have tap to focus or is it like the air that does not?
What about ND options for the mavic pro 2? People still might want to shoot at f5.6 or f4 or f2.8? Does the way it is constructed look like there could be an ND option?
Yes, they have ND filters for the Mavic 2 Zoom and the Mavic 2 Pro.
Awesome. Saw that today. Looks like a nice system.
I wonder if the new controller with the builtin bigger screen will be compatible to the Mavic Air.
Is there a fly more combo for the NEW drones? can the Mavic pro batteries and props work with the new drones?
Question: Is it tap screen to focus like original mavic pro or auto focus like mavic air?
You can switch between them.
Autofocus fix? Or still tap to focus, did the clarity improve when shooting 1080p at 60 vs old mavic pro? Thanks, great vid
Do you know when they are coming out with the new remote? Thanks
I don't know when, but I know they are.
It has rear sensor but pro dosnt had it, so there is some changes in sensors.
does the apeture change when you zoom in or out? I thought I saw the exposure change when you did that dolly zoom. Thanks!
Johnnie yes
Can one use active track so all the sensors will work but not actually active track something
Hi nice vid, did you get a chance to see how the 2x optical zoom looks like when you add it together with digital zoom?
Are you sure about what you say about the controller at 11:25? What is your source for that information?
My source is DJI. Yes, it is correct. Not sure on the date, but it is happening.
Ready Set Drone, thank you.
Question is the size the same as the mavic pro was wondering if i could use my cases i have for my mavic pro for the mavic pro 2?
Is the Gamble stronger construction then the first Mavic pro
How do you make camera turn left and right ? Or it can't ? Just up/down ?
Is the sensor on the M2P the same quality as the one on the Phantom 4 Pro?
Is the electronic shutter total or rolling?
That's a great question. I don't know about the rolling shutter. But do know that the sensor on the M2P is the same size as the P4Pro.
Great video Kelly! ---I'm looking forward to your Mavic 3 review next week.
Thought you would post the review of the Mavic 3 Ken.😁
Ken, Your Inspire still amazing, I bet you hope your unnamed friend would get you the magic pro 2
It's no top of the range Inspire 2 though!
Wait... should I sell my Mavic Air to get a Mavic 2 and then sell that next week to get the Mavic 3?
I'M SO CONFUSED!!!
Oh my gosh guys Ali a here and I just found out that the the Mavic 3 is coming to fOrTnItE bAtTlE rOyAl
Now that there are many more sensors in the drone, I’d like to know if the issue of having sun being identified as an obstacle was fixed. Did you test that?
Heyper lapse mod available on Mavic Pro Platinum feature
Hi I want to be able to zoom in 4 times so I need to use 1080p what are the best camera settings no grading raw out of the camera? Thanks
Is the waypoints still the same meaning still no offline waypoints feature
How much is it to have the pro 2 camera fitted to the zoom
Have you experienced any gimbal drift like on the old mavic pro?
I have not. Once it calibrates, the gimbal is rock solid.
@@readysetdrone awesome, my mavic always has the horizon off angle, and the UI to make it level again doesn't work very well, pushing it to the left sometimes makes it go more to the right
Do the battery of the Mavic Pro fits to Mavic 2 zoom ?
Yes, they are the same battery.
was the camera able to move in an upwards direction a little? on my Platinum, the farthest it can move up is in a level direction
The camera on the Mavic 2 Zoom can tilt up slightly.
Thanks! Like I said I have the Platinum. But looking for something with a camera that can zoom in/out. Should I buy the Mavic zoom? Or wait to see what the Evo2 series and Mavic 3 has to offer?
Are u going to show the settings for best control and Video? Great start on this review.
I wonder - how long will it take DJI to switch to 3D video....
How do you know about the bright remote?
will the Ipad mini 4 will works well the the new DJI Mavic 2?
Yes - should work just fine. But you will need an adapter to mount the iPad mini to the controller.
Welcome June 2020 how are you doing?
BrickFreak2000 i am fine thank you
Does mavic 2 zoom has 4k camera same as the pro type?
Is it a waterproof? Can fly even it rains..?
I'll be waiting on your noise and decible test from the Drone or props thanks
Hello, please..... Which one is quieter Mavic Platinum or Mavic 2 ?? Thank you.
Does the camera shoot uhd video?
I want to turn off UPWARD sensor is that possible?
In terms of camera quality.. how does the zoom compare to other quad camera’s in its class? How does it stack up with the original mavic, the p3p, and the p4?
Nice review! Do you know if the SuperRes 48mp is available in Mavic Zoom panorama mode?
I think that was the main purpose of it not just to go further but when you're in a residential area with all the interferences it helps a lot that was mentioned at the DJI convention
Geo fencing changes ?
Will this take off in a nfz ? I fly in my yard in the outside edge of the zone within reason ,my bebop2 will let you and I know some dji models will not
Any idea on how long it'll be for the new controller?
I would guess before Christmas.
Hi. excellent video !!! Which is quieter Mavic Platinum or Mavic 2 ?? Thank you.
Does the MP Platinum filter fit to M2Z
Came over from iPhonedo.
Are you going to make a tutorial on the Mavic 2 Pro with the Hasselbach camera soon? That’s the one that I am going to get
I love the family of Mavics. So adorable:)
excellent presentation, I hope you can answer something for me, does the controller have the USB at the bottom? I currently use that and connect to Nvidia Shield, and then to my Glyphs for my goggle type. I order one of these, I assumed that controller would have USB, thanks again for posting
Do you have to still touch the screen to focus?
Yes, it is still tap to focus by default, but I believe that you can switch modes for autofocus as well.
Great video! Does the camera pan?
Is it now 4cell lipo? Thanks.
Yes, that is correct.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. I'm new at this and live where there are lots of hills and trees. I will try to fly above the trees and within my line of sight, but am curious as to what would happen if by mistake I fly over a hill or behind some trees. Would I quickly lose contact with my new Mavic 2 Zoom or would the radio signal of my Smart Controller stay in contact? I've watched a zillion videos but can't find this information. I don't dare try it without knowing a bit more.
Thanks for the review.
Do you have any details on the trade up program? Trade in your old gear for credit in the DJI online store?
Thx for the review. Was wondering if they might have added GPS to the remotes for the Mavic 2 (guessing they'll have to for the remote coming with built-in display). Would sure help iPad users without GPS (i.e. non-cellular iPad's).
Just flown my Mavic 2 Zoom for the first time today and am very impressed. The image quality seems much better than the original Mavic and the zoom feature is just amazing!
Do you think this is better for real estate videos or the Pro 2?
I would pick the Zoom for real estate because you can zoom in on details. As long as the lighting is good (daylight) the cameras looks very similar to most people.
@@readysetdrone Thanks very much...that was my conclusion too. Ordered it and just waiting to fly! Appreciate your reply.
Nice overview but would have liked to see more of a side by side with the mavic pro just from a size perspective.
Can it do a hyperlapse zoom combo?
I did not try that, but I will!
Has the remote with the bigger screen that you mentioned on this video been released yet. I am new to this and need to purchase for my business. I need all the help and good information that I can get. I have not purchase yet but am planning to this week.
Yes - it's called the DJI Smart Controller - I have a review of it on the channel.
Awesome. So the new Pro 2 with one inch sensor will NOT share zoom ability...... is that correct?
yes
+Felipe GC gotcha, thank you
Np, it makes it harder to choose between them but apparently there was a hint at interchangeable cameras
So better than the Platinum ?
Thanks for great info. I'm having issues taking pictures when in 70 mm when I have camera set on 1080 P. Can you only take pictures at 2x optical?
ReadySetDrone how did you get the Mavic Pro 2 so fast
Mavic 2 Zoom Super Resolution, were is it?? How do I use it?
Can’t wait for mine to come in. Bought it yesterday 4 weeks after getting the mavic pro lol. Guess Ill have a drone battle to the death. Great review.
Hi, do you know if Mavic 1 ND filtres fit in Mavic 2 Zoom?
I don't know, but I'll check. Stay tuned.
I want to see people showcase the improved obstacle senseing since it's "improved" is it now comparable to the skydio r1? Also do they have 360 view drones
Can the DJI Goggles pair with the new drones? Thanks. Waiting on a answer.
yes!
@@SeanOzz eventually I suppose
In your opinion...which of these two new Mavic’s would be a better option for shooting real estate? I’m leaning towards the zoom because of the unique options the zoom lens offers. Do you think those unique shots out weigh the better camera sensor the pro version offers? Thanks
I'd say Zoom. I think the versatility outweighs the bigger sensor in the camera.
Thanks
Great review and awesome shots of Austin. Do you know if they came out with the screen built into the remote yet? Im going to be buying a Mavic 2 zoom but dont want to use my phone or spend an extra $650 on the smart controller. Thanks
Well done review of the features of the Mavic 2 Zoom.
What are the downsides to this model in addition to the lack of 60 fps?
Thanks.
Great review as always! Just a question, obviously the Mavic 2 Pro has all the bells and whistles we've been asking for, but if Im in the market for a drone thats a bit cheaper would you suggest the Mavic Air or Mavic 2 zoom?
Well, that depends on what you want to do with it. The Mavic 2 Zoom is not much cheaper than the Mavic 2 Pro. Mavic Air is great, but not as good as the original Mavic Pro Platinum. I would definitely recommend the Mavic 2 Zoom, but Mavic Pro Platinum if you want to save more money.
Well Im more of a casual drone user, mostly use it when im out hiking or on vacation. I like to get video and pictures from high up on the mountains. I'm currently using a parrot drone but looking to upgrade and wanted some more insight as to which one to invest in. Thanks again for the previous tips.
Great video! Do you an idea if when they will release the upgraded remote controller?
They will, but I don't know when.
Ready Set Drone Thanks..can’t wait!
how can i fix the lag on mavic air?
Thank you for your reviews. How can I find more information about the upcoming controller with enlarged screen that doesnt require using my phone. Release date?
As soon as I know, I will be sure to make a video. Right now, I only know it's coming, but I don't have more details yet.
What drone would you recommend that has good quality at a comfortable price
Randolph Angulo Mavic Air
Depends on comfortable price. Mavic Air is great for $800 USD. Spark is pretty good at $400 USD.
Can it look up?
Any ETA on the new controller with video screen?
I don't know for sure. I would guess around Christmas.
Will DJI give Hyper laps for Mavic Air? Please DJi ....
Personally I could careless about Hyper laps compared to getting the different style propellers, so you don't have as much of a high pitched whine when flying the Air. This to me is the Air's biggest downfall.
timelapse isnt the same when I'm flying?
Thanks for this wonderful review, i am enjoying my zoom to the fullest
So all things considered and $250 difference in price, would you go for the pro or the zoom?
Ferris zoom
Great review! I'm guessing the Mavic 2 zoom captures the HDR and Superres images in JPG? And only for regular images there is the DNG option?
Hello, i still curious how can i use optical zoom on mavic 2 pro, which one button on the remote i can use. Anyone ?
Great review, thank you.
Will it fit in the same GoProfessional case as the original Mavic Pro?
The Zoom is for me still the best option overall. The Zoom feature is especially useful for overall capture of video, and the fact that it's camera is not quite up to the Pro version means NOTHING to me. I am satisfied with the video from my Mavic Mini so the Zoom is only better. I don't do video editing as I'm sure a lot of flyers don't do either, so that too means nothing to me. I can fly the Zoom in relatively windy conditions that would cause me grief with the Mini. Plus, when I put it up there, it just feels so much more secure that I can't help feeling better knowing I'm far more likely going to get it back (yes, I still suffer from drone anxiety when flying).
I have a friend who owns both the Pro and the Zoom. He has 480 flights on the Zoom and only 50 or so on the Pro which would show it's relative usefulness to people who are not pro videographers versus those who are.
Exactly my sentiments! I have a mini but going to order a Zoom. Said this on a forum and was lambasted by comments saying 'Get the Pro2 not the Zoom'. For me, the Zoom offers more creative opportunities. I live in the country and use my mini to film deer etc so the zoom will allow me to do that more effectively and from a distance. I'm completely happy with my mini footage so the zoom will be great for me. I'm not interested in spending hours editing footage on a computer! Minimal editing on my iPhone suffices then post to TH-cam.
@@babycharliebrown One of the things you will likely really like is the fact that the zoom feature goes to 4X when in 1080 format, which is good enough for TH-cam. For viewing animals without disturbing them, it is fabulous. Also, the Mavic Zoom overall seems to give me a far more comfortable feeling when I send it out as I feel FAR more confident it will be returning to me. It's expensive but worth the money IMO. The video quality is superb even the 1080 viewed on a 50 inch LG 4k screen so you lose nothing really versus having this fabulous 4x zoom feature.
I fly with a friend who has both the Zoom and Pro models and he flies the Zoom about 5 times for every time he flies the Pro. You have to take with a grain of salt all these testimonials by photographers who are coming at this from a different perspective. I just want to take good video without having to do anything in the way fo editing other than cutting out sections.
Outstanding review Kelly, thanks. Gimbal / lens would be up-gradable? Is it removable?
Enjoyed Your review ....Been watching many of your reviews and tests, tutorials ...You dont ramble on like others, you are easy to follow precise ... clear and easy to understand ... I will base my decision on what i future buy on your videos .... I am now subscribed to your channel !!! ...
Thanks!
i want to see if the active track really has improved and wont crash into trees
Active track on this drone is very much improved. I can't say it would never hit a tree, but it does a very good job avoiding them in my testing.
Hey Austin, what the name of the song in the introduction?
It is called Melatonin by Dylan Sitts. I got it on Epidemic Sound.
Great review - it would be helpful if you could tell us how long it takes to complete a super resolution 48Mp picture. I'm hoping it's pretty quick to minimize the effect of movement in the scene.
Thanks for the suggestion. I realize after publishing this video that I missed some things. I'm working on new videos now. Thanks.
You answered my question about coming out with a controller that will have a built in monitor.
I was hoping that since my LG Stylo2 phone doesn't see very well in bright sunlight.
Thanks....
I wonder how long that will take to have a built in screen system. I would think since they have one for the Phantom 4 Plus and likely uses similar software and design, it shouldn't be hard.
Hi i have a question i have mavic zoom and ive been flying it nonstop but im wondering why it only records 4mins and 50seconds??
I should do longer. Are you recording to your internal memory or to a micro SD card? How big is the SD card? Put in a 64GB SD card and you should be able to record much longer.
@@readysetdrone both and yeah i have 64gb
I wonder if there's going to be a Mavic Air 2 and a spark 2🤔
It's not a 4k?
Great detailed overview on the new Mavic 2 Zoom Kelly
I can fly my mavic about 2 miles away but interference is always a pain and the signal will drop randomly
Did you hear the subtle comment made during the presentation that the gimbal / lens would be up-gradable later on? Does that mean eventually you can just swap out Hasselblad for Zoom?
Yes. See DJI Website
DJI''s See the Bigger Picture video on their DJI youtube channel -- At 1:36:32 the most profound statement was made. This looks like more gimbal / lens options for the Mavic 2 - OUTSTANDING! I hope they add a Hasselblad with 50mm eqv lens and gimbal in the months to come.
...but not back and forth. It has to be sent in for the swap, like a repair. The 3 will probably be modular, but that's just my personal guess...and hope!!
I am hoping they have other options like a 50mm eqv. I would def send my Mavic 2 Pro in for a 50mm look.
Great video! Try out putting a really dark ND filter on the drone for the hyperlapses and you'll get really nice motion blur.
Cool - I will give that a try. Thanks for the comment.
You forgot to mention the flight time??
