I like it, you tell the Drone this is the safe point when it take off and it comes right back to that point. So one should be wise when they pick their take off point.
I have the first Mavic 3 and have the Air 3S. The Air 3S is a lot smarter when it comes to RTH. It's very determined. The satellite coverage is a lot better too. Great video guys.
That was an interesting test. I did thought it was going to do better in the dark, but I guess it didn't. Either way, I still think it's a great drone. I seriously doubt people are going to fly when it's that dark, but you never know. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Agreed. It's a fantastic drone. We wanted to have a bit of fun and test out some of its limitations and see how far we could push it. Thanks for watching, Raymond!
In your RTH tests. If you’re under trees when you select RTH will it crash into the tree branches above it? I have this problem using RTH as I am flying under trees. So do I set the RTH start lower or juts no it use it?
It maps the way out from the home point and follows that path back for RTH. That's the whole idea of mapping the home point, and that's why it doesn't need a GPS home point. Did you really expect it to fly a path that it didn't map (shortcut), or was that all for suspense?😉 Good stuff overall. I really like this drone, but I might have too many toys already.
That makes sense. I was just curious to find out if it could see more of the surroundings and find a smarter, shorter way back home, but I expected too much of it. I had to try it to find out, so I wanted to include it in the video, in case anyone else was curious. We have a few more Air 3s videos in the works where we test its tracking abilities (and where it fails). Thanks for commenting. Happy New Year!
I am looking to purchase the DJI Air 3s in the next month. This will be my 5th drone. The DJI Air 3s will be a great addition, since I am doing Florida Real Estate videos and pictures for my wife. Anyone interested in moving to Florida, please contact me. Awesome video.
My DJI Air 3S I haven't received yet. Its currently stuck in Cincinnati, Ohio Customs Hub for 4 days now. Greatly appreciated if you could give me some insight on that.
That's funny. I said that phrase as well at 5:28. 😅 And yes, we agree, it seems to return home in a hurry! Almost like it's in sport mode, but it's not. We aren't sure why it does that.
Finnally a Drone that can out smart Kris. The AI is getting smarter and soon will be self aware. The next thing the drone needs is ear so it can hear Kris's #SqueakyShoes
We originally were going to test it out, but based on the description, it could crash more easily, and we wanted to give the Air 3s the best chance of avoiding obstacles. Basically, we chickened out and also had limited free time to film, so we ended up with the standard obstacle avoidance setting. Thanks very much for watching and asking that question. Even without the added risk of crashing, the Air 3s still gives us pause around wires and little twigs, unless going very, very slowly. We have another video coming up where we accidentally crash it into wires and twigs. 🫣
@readysetdrone I bought an air 3S a few weeks ago, upgrading from a mini 2 that I've have for over 2 years. I started 9 years ago with the very simple ones and still hesitate flying too close to things or flying in moderate wind. I found your video most informative and look forward to the next
@readysetdrone sometimes in nifty mod3 the drone can bypass things which it could not in normal mode. But overall you said the avoidance while tracking was gokd or not... ? Crashes yes but not bad overall
Lol thanks, Steve. My shoes are not good for recording! 😅 We'd love to send you some of our stickers. Please drop me a line, if you'd like: Kris [at] readysetdrone [dot] com.
Sometimes. As you saw in this video, it saw the thin wires, but barely, and only because we were going slowly. At slow speeds, it seems to see them, but in an upcoming video, we have 3 crashes with twigs and power lines. So, don't be confident in thinking it will. We aren't quite at thst level of obstacle avoidance yet.
Hi. I also have the Air 3 S. I saw videos with excellent obstacle avoidance and videos with crashes of the Air 3 S. Most time crashes in combination flying on narrow spaces like forests and then crashing flyling sideways or diagonal into brnaches without leaves. For me overall the obstacle avoidance is good. Note 2, but not note 1. I really hope in your upcoming video three crashes there were also parts, where you say well done nice job. I hope also of th7s 3 crashes it made also a good or very good in parts of the tracking and avoiding. Please let me know. I need the feeling of having a good drone.
The Air 3s is fantastic drone, and we will show it succeeding and failing at obstacle avoidance. We have 3 videos in works: a tracking tutorial, obstacle avoidance while tracking, and how we tricked the tracking ai. In our upcoming OA video, we really want to show how to set yourself up for success with tracking, so (once we get that video edited) we go over where and when you can use it with confidence, showing it succeeding, as well as showing all the fails. It's a great drone. Don't doubt that! Nothing's perfect though. 😎
@@readysetdrone Is the OA in the test an improvement to Mini 4 Pro or Mini 3 Pro ? Ok lot say Dkydio, but Skydio also in the paßt was specialized in OA. The lidar works better than all the other sensors u put the drone in ATTI mode disabling all of its sensors and the stabilization system, thats why it was not seeing anything and why it was drifting
Sorry, we don't quite understand. How could we have made the LiDAR work in the dark? We didn't want to disable obstacle avoidance, but we were hoping the LiDAR would do the sensing and avoid the obstacle. The drifting part makes sense, without the vision sensors, but we are curious as to why the LiDAR didn't seem to work.
@@readysetdrone when u turned off the aux light u put the drone in a mode called ATTI (attitude) mode and turned off all the sensors (LiDAR included), i don't know why it happened maybe its because u have some strange settings but if u still can't find out the reason for why this is happening then just cover the aux light and u will see that the LiDAR works incredibly well
strange that the Lidar doesn't detect the wall in the dark, it doesn't use or need visible light for it to work, it generates it's own light with a laser, should work in complete darkness.
DJI Air 3S could have been the best Drone ever if only it had Aperture control....nobody wants the hassle of using ND filters like we in 1920...you spend that money, you expect to have, as a basic, Aperture control. every $200 camera has it...
One of the best drone videos ever--a very comprehensive test of a super-smart drone! I'm subscribing.
Thank you very much! We try to have fun with our videos, while also providing useful info.

And this is why I now have a total of 8 DJI drones 😁😁Great video, fellas!
Great testing guys, the DJI Air 3S is truly a leap forward from any drones that came before as far as OA and RTH. Thanks for sharing.
Nice work gentlemen! No one builds this kind of AI into consumer drones. I really enjoyed this one! Well done! 😄
Interesting tests on a fabulous drone. I'm loving mine so far and have lots of things to try with it. I love the Smart RTH.

Wow this is great tips on this diverse I'm watching from Cameroon🇨🇲🇨🇲 this is my next dream property to have🎉
Great tests, guys! You covered all the bases. Now if only my Air 3 was an Air 3S! Thanks.
Just grab a marker and draw an "S" onto it... 😜 Sorry, bad joke. Thanks for watching, and commenting. We really appreciate it.
Like the black Knight givin‘ way to the drone. Awesome Kris! ⚔️
Dang, very impressive testing, Kelly & Kris! Outstanding, truly innovative testing with the new DJI Air3S. Bravo 👏👏.
Kris risking his body for testing purposes! Great test guys! Love my Air 3S.
I was about a half second away from chickening out. Lol
What a great comprehensive drone testing video. I am looking at buying one and after seeing your video has helped me make a decision :)
Last time I was on a garage parking lot at night flying my drone I was lucky enough to meet the local SWAT team.
Sounds like fun! 😯
What would you do in this situation? Just explain to them you are flying recreationaly for fun?

If you're flying below the tree line, it should detect the trees above it, however, in that case, just use optimal RTH, that way, there's no risk.
Kris killing it on the test! You guys rock! Great stuff here! Solid video!
Hey Producer Paul! Thanks very much! 👊

Testing the RTH section of the front porch at night; why would it go back to the outside area❓
🤔 That was a strange result. We still are not sure what was going on or why it did that.

Curious? Did you have to make an application with the FAA to do the flights in the city?
No. We were flying in class G airspace.
