    The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is the most versatile drone I've flown to date. Having the ability to change focal lengths enables you to create beautiful shots that may otherwise not be possible. While in Jamaica, I was able to shoot down the coastline and utilize longer focal lengths to make it happen.
    Like the Mavic Pro and Air, the sensor is a bit noisy in the shadows. I've found myself occasionally needing noise reduction for iso 100 shots.

    🎥 Suggested Camera Settings
    Best Quality Settings: Color / D-Cinelike / Style: 0,-3,0 and natural or creative LUTs in post.
    Easy straight out of camera settings: Color / Normal / Style: 0,-3,0
    You may prefer to Denoise the footage at ISO 100. It'll take the edge off and clean the shadow noise.

    Buy the Mavic 2 Zoom:
    DJI - geni.us/Mavic2zoom
    _
    FAQ:
    - Do the SkyGrades Natural LUTs need additional grading? - No. They are easy to apply and ready for export.
    - How do the SkyGrades Cinema LUTs work? - The Cinema LUTs are creative color grades made specifically for the Mavic 2 Zoom. There are 5 different LUTs - Vivid, Pop, Warm, Cold, Standard and it comes with a guide for applying them.
    - How do the Noise Profiles work? - You NEED to have the plugin Neat Video. It's the effect that does the denoising. The profiles tell neat video what the sensor noise looks like, and then the presets tell Neat Video what to do with that noise. the program is like magic. Even if it seems nitpicky to remove shadow noise at ISO 100, the cleaned image makes your exported and recompressed file look better. TH-cam will really mess up all over a noisy image when it re-compresses your video, so the cleaner the better.

There is no waffle, none of that app recording and it comes from a reliable source. This single video alone including its tips, tricks and suggestions has confirmed the Mavic 2 Zoom is the correct one for me...finally! It answered all my questions in a short space of time. Thank you...and great job!

    Wow, what a professionally done video! I know that's obvious, but I felt I just had to say it. Darn, am I anguishing over which of these 2 bombshell drones to get when I can afford it. I'm certainly leaning on the zoom, for most of the reasons you talked about. I don't know what it is, but somehow, I still feel like the Pro 2 looks a little soft on the video. I know most people would say it's cinematic, and that's probably true, but I still seem to prefer the sharpness of the zoom and certainly the flexibility the zoom allows you to shoot. I know there's people in both camps on this, but that's how I see it. Thanks for a great presentation. Marc T.

    Great video! I was baffled that the Zoom was overlooked by so many people. I don't think the pro's image quality is that much better TBH. I think footage from the zoom can look just as good in the right hands. For me, having more composition options was far more interesting. I would rather have a DSLR with a wide focal range than a RAW Cinema camera that can only shoot wide. I think composition options benefits creative storytelling more than image quality. But that's just my opinion. ;-)

      @@Sky1 oh please what? That's a great range for aerial and there is a very distinct difference in look and feel at each end of that range. When it comes to aerial, I don't think you'd want to go much wider or longer for a good cinematic image.
      Everyone has their personal taste and that's ok. I find the focal range of the zoom to be very beneficial.

    the zoom's image can definitely be comparable to the Pro if you take the time to grade it in post. i love how you brought out the composition benefits of the Zoom. only a few reviews even bring that up and most only relay how the only benefit of the zoom lens the dolly effect. i think the Pro's quality is great but Zoom seems more practical to use in overall story telling as a filmmaker.

    It has some strange artifacts, compared to the Mavic 2 pro. There's a glistening effect on the palm leaves and then on an above footage of rocks and beach. Might be due to TH-cam compression. Otherwise very pleasing composition and footage. Thanks for posting the videos. Nice work !

  • @EtheriumSky
    @EtheriumSky 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Damn, just when i pretty much decided on the pro, i watch this and again dont know anymore ugghhh...! How would you compare the Pro's HQ mode (shoots at 1.4 crop equalling 40mm essentially, then you can digitally zoom 4k to essentially 80mm) vs the zoom's optical zoom? I know obviously optical zoom is way better than digital crop but i ask myself if in this situation it would make a huge difference? Its only 24 to 48 after all, still not a tele lens... And the 10bit DLog of the pro would just offer much more for color grading... Any thoughts?

    Great video, although I've found that playing with the HQ mode and Full FOV on the mavic 2 pro are also kind of give this flexibility of having 2 different composition options while having the Mavic 2 pro advantages. What are your thoughts on this ?

    • @tomibeg
      @tomibeg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true. If you don't need to zoom while filming (i.e. for already annoying dolly-zoom), M2Pro can give you almost the same cinematic look which marketed as "exclusive feature" of M2Zoom

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good Day that’s sort of true, I like cropping with hq, but it’s more like 38mm. So 48mm is about 25% more reach. But what’s most useful isn’t zooming mid shot, but zooming mid-composition. I shot a lot in between 24 and 48mm, like 35mm. With the zoom you can find the sweet spot. But yes I still prefer the Mavic 2 Pros sweet image.

    The zoom is somehow a lot of fun, I guess that's one of the things that makes it tough to decide whether to use it or the Pro... are you going to keep both? which do you think you'll use more for weddings? I'd like to test how much I can digitally zoom into the pro 4k image without losing too much quality.

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Delano it’s a tough choice, but the Zoom was the right tool in Jamaica. It made shots possible that I would hav passed up otherwise. I do think the Pro has a much cleaner image, and the highlight rolloff feels better, so it’ll be my go to. I wouldn’t crop it more than 10-20% though.

    I would get a Mavic 2 Zoom over a 2 Pro if I ahd the money
    The quality of the Zoom and Pro isn't that much diffirent, maybe only in low light
    But the Zoom gives so much possibilities

    Like more these settings on my Mavic Air as well but like all the others cameras is just better do dial down sharpness and bump it in post depending on the scene. With 0 sharpness you will still get se weird edges in some situations, like windows on distant buildings for example. What do you think of this?

      With the small sensor drones it's a trade off. You'll either have some digital looking sharpening going on or, with negative in camera sharping settings, you'll get smudgy shadows from the noise reduction that kicks in. 0 is kind of the middle ground on the Zoom, although I still see some oversharpened edges. It's the one thing that the Mavic Pro really stands out on. It' has very smooth looking detail. -Matt

    Now they just need to make the thing waterproof and they've got a world wide winner! What's on the market so far is a waste of space.
    Question: Does it return to where it took off from or where the controller is?
