- It took longer than I thought, but it was worth it!
In this vlog I show the process of preparing three floors for sanding (repairs, planing and removing nails) and sanding them.
I have sanded floors before, but that was a modern hardwood floor that needed a fresher look. These floors are 100 year old, uneven and the hallway floor was both painted and varnished. So I anticipated it would take the weekend to do it, but I spent 9 days to finish it. Lucky for me I knew a guy at the rental company so I ended up paying 500 Euros for everything (included 150 Euros for sandpaper).
Here's what I learned;
- You only need 1-2 each of the finer sandpapers but at least 10 of the 24 coarse sandpaper (don't start with 40, it's so much easier if you can get hold of 24)
- Only rent the EDGE sanding machine (not to be confused by an edge sander) if your floor is even. This is not efficient enough to do very uneven floors. But if they are even, you could save both time and money as you don't have to rent two machines.
- It's not possible to keep dust away from the rest of your home. Don't fight it, just give in ;-)
Moa, you are extremaly patient ! Respect ! Give more work to volunteers 😉. The floor looks amazing !
Wow, such a hard work. Greetings from cologne Andy
That floor looks amazing - all that hard work paid off!
Thank you 😁
It seems like exhausting work, but I'm sure it will be worth it, all my respect.💫🙌
Thank you Victor 🙏 how is Oslo?
You’re amazing! Love your channel
Thank you, it feels very good to edit it and look. See you go through with through from start to finish! Love to have you follow along!
And then, you say to yourself "shabby is chic, isn't it?"
😄😄
Could you use paint stripper on that floor prior to sanding? would it have helped? Floors look awesome
That might have saved me some time if I had used my speed heater. Didn't think the layers were that thick when I started 🤷♀️
