- Soaped floors is an age-old Scandinavian wood finishing tradition for flooring and is a great environmental friendly option for treating your floors.
By adding linseed oil soap to the floor it reacts with sunlight and turns the wood lighter and lighter, stopping the natural darkening and yellowing of the wood.
It takes some effort, but it's worthwhile the process because these types of floors become more beautiful with time. The soap and scrubbing turns the wood dirt repellent and durable. The oil nurtures the wood and lightens it every time you clean it. So if you take care of the floor you never have to treat them again and they can stay like this for hundreds of years. But you need to to scrub them at least once a year with cold water and linseed oil soap.

It was a lot of work put into the preparation yes 😱 I planned to do it in a weekend and ended up using two weeks (I work full time so I only get a few hours in the evening on workdays)

Hi! I live in Maine, pine floors are a big thing here! I’m thinking of installing pine floors in half of my house(replacing wall to wall carpeting). Do you think this method would work well with pine flooring in the kitchen? Thanks!
The floors are beautiful. I am curious to know. You mentioned there are two methods; the traditional with soap only and the modern with oil and soap mixed together. Why did you choose the modern version? Thank you!
Great question! With the newer version you only need to add soap once in a couple of years and you only need to treat it once. With the traditional version you have to to it 5-6 times and let it dry in between before you can use it. The downside is at the modern version tend to be a little sticky (kind of but more matted is a better word for it) initially. That's almost gone now though
Hi, We tried the såpning method according to your instructions as have heard that the scrubbing of the traditional såpskura method can break the soft fibres in pine. However, after six washes some parts of our floor look almost like they did after sanding. Should we have added water to the soap before brushing it on? Any advice greatly appreciated!
Well I have only done my own floors so that's my only experience. But some small parts of my floor remained the same and on my floor my mistake was that I left some remains of the old varnish. Because the floor were so uneven it was hard to remove 100 %. Also there are some uneveness because parts of the floor had been covered up for decades. You could also try to contact the brand you use and send pictures. I sent Selder&Co one and got an immediate reply

Just finished treating my floors and it seems to have raised the grain of the wood a decent amount. Now they are no longer smooth from the sanding. Did yours do that? If so, how/can I smooth it back out without ruining the finish?
@@KaylaFritz-np3jp no they didn't, but I don't think a sanding with a very light touch and super fine sand papper will ruin the finish. It's kind of hard to avoid as wood always raise when it gets wet. I would assume it wears off?

Hi! Why did you choose Selders golvsåpa and not their golvolja? We dont want to vax it so I am choosing between their golvsåpa or golvolja… 🩶
Well, golvsåpa is soap and golvolja is oil. Both will be good for the floor and the wood. The reason I chose the soap is because it makes the wood light (some kind of natural chemical reaction when exposed to the sun) and bright while the oil makes it yellow (I used the oil on my doors, about a year ago if you look back on some of my earlier vlogs). Also when you clean the floor with the soap and scrub it like in the old times, it makes the wood more durable. The soap I think also creates a more dirt repellent shine, at least after some time when it's been scrubbed many times. I hope this helps!
