Stock savage guy here. It was a little difficult spotting your own splash. First thing in the morning on full mag the image was a little dark and the dirt wasn't moving much. It was a great day and an awesome experience. Hits got way easier as the day went on. Thank you for the opportunity. Hope to do it again. With impacts this time.
🫲Damn fine shootin…my buddies got few savages he has all dolled up McGowan barrels and gen3 razor in a spuhr..I have a 6.5prc carbon waypoint and older fn special police .308 that will drive nails to 800yrds far as I’ve shot it…168gmm from Walmart stay on a 15” gong
I was watching and wondering about that. The splashes were so small, even hard to see on the cam. Also don’t worry; if anyone watching expected hits under the 3 min 5 shot condition, I’d say they haven’t been watching long range stuff long enough.
Don't think he was able to spot those shots or I think he could have corrected and got on steel pretty quick. Mile with no spotter is extremely difficult!
That guy rocking that savage was shooting an MOA but just couldn't walk it in! I was really routing for him. I think he'd have been on steel in 2 with a spotter.
17:24 Hats off to the jackwagon that is tooo important to shut his phone off, and keep his mouth shut in the background!!!! Jest Say'in!!! Great video, Great Challenge, Great Shooters all around!!!! Looking forward to more!!!
Cold bore 1 moa at a mile solo is no joke. Theres no way you could see that splash through the glass to even make corrections off of. These guys did amazingly well considering.
I learn alot from these challenge videos. The guy with the 7PRC has an accutac bipod with rubber feet. Watch his rifle jump. I switched mine to the sled feet and it made a world of difference.
Im not the only one that saw a stock savage shoot the best group good job on the video Ray great to watch I own a savage and also a 7mm prc I was rooting for them both

Thank You Sir, Sponsors, Mr. M, competitors, Clinton House! One strategy, which may be less significant at such a distance, is to know your rifle cold bore as far out as possible. Anticipate that impact, concentrating on spotting to get a good wind call. Work with that on the remaining four. I believe the Savage rifle had an Area 419 Hell Fire muzzle device. I love everything Area 419! I hope that young man from California comes to shoot in the future, Johnathan O..... The other time you mentioned an event at Pig River. I see competitions there on Practiscore often. Pig River, enchanting, my imagination runs wild! 👍🇺🇲
Great video. I’m generally, I see a lot of people slapping the trigger. I was always taught to follow through. I compete in PRS and I see trigger slappin a lot!
Definitely fun and interesting to watch! Since you asked for suggestions or changes I think a shout out to Texas Plinking for the Idea would be good. At least that's where I first saw this concept about a year ago.
They weren't shooting for groups. Shouldn't you have been pulling for the person with the hit closest to the target since that was the objective of the challenge?
@@OFFICIALUND none of them hit the target, so the next best thing is a good grouping. the dude also shot all his shots pretty damn close to target as opposed to some who didnt even make it there
@@apet1572 You're obviously slow. Think about it. If the first shot taken was 30MOA left and low, they SHOULDN'T be hitting near there the second time. They should be getting closer to the target (ideally) with each successive shot. Even if they were, the Stock Savage guy was getting progressively worse with each shot. He threw that last shot way high. 7PRC guy had a tighter group that was nearly just as close to the target.
Texas Plinking is derivative of Long Range Shooters of Utah (and others). It's actually telling of your own inexperience that you didn't know about this type of video until you watch TP.
I certainly don’t have what it takes, but hopefully that won’t stop me from getting in on this action when I’m back in the area. Any chance of a separate AR with a drum mag division. I’m thinking unlimited rounds / 30s 😁 Awesome challenge. Thanks to all for getting it organized and supplying the legit prizes. First place should get a bejeweled Diet Coke signed by Xring, however
I wonder who could hit the target as the series goes on. Those people are very professional and subMOA at 1 mile is obviously remain challenging for them.
That looks extremely challenging and it's probably worse than that😂 When the group spread is about as wide as the movement, you need to your target 🎯 Yotu kind of pissing in the wind
Thank you for doing these videos. I am learning a lot from them. This series of videos have caused me to go out and do research. Whether I would ever try to shoot to a mile or not, the things I am learning are helping me to refine my equipment setup for distance shooting. Because of these videos I found out about the “Tall Target Test” to test and confirm that your scope is zeroed and tracking correctly both in elevation and windage. Something I had not thought to do is to confirm my measurement equipment is working correctly. I watched Brian Litz at NSSF confirm, against an actual tape measure, that his range finder(s) were reading correctly. Brian proved that just because it costs more does not mean it is better. He tested three range finders and the most expensive range finder was the least accurate. I would be curious to know if any of your shooters did a high target test. I would also be curious to know if any of the shooters had DOPE for windage and were paying attention to the wind flags that were setup on the targets. After watching two episodes, it appeared to me that at least a couple of the shooters did not have their guns setup correctly for them; e.g. scope placement, check rest, etc. If I were going to try the challenge, I would practice getting down in to position and ensure that the gun fell in the same position every time. A lot of time seems to be wasted just getting into position. I would also dry fire every time that I got into position. Spotters. Several people have mentioned it here. When I see five shots drop in the same area I wonder why. Was it because they didn’t or couldn’t see the splash or was it something else. If they can't see the miss, they aren't going to be able to make the corrections they need to ever hit the target. What chance is there that you change up the challenge and allow for teams with shooter and spotter? As a viewer, it would be more enjoyable if we actually saw someone hit the targets and we could learn with how a spotter and shooter work together. I noted that sometimes whomever was filming with the Ollin camera couldn't spot the splash. Again, thank you for the videos. I am anxiously waiting for episode 3.
Ray. I have no idea what kind of camera your using recording this video, but it is high movie quality! May be the best video footage I've ever seen in TH-cam... Fantastic job.
Competitor 4 exemplified the natural results of cooking the round before shooting. Get aligned, then chamber the round. If you chamber and wait, it will absolutely increase muzzle velocity by having hotter powder. That said, he was still closer than me. Hahaha. But yeah, that’s why he kept going up in a predictable pattern.
Would love to see Texas Plinking come out and try this challenge and vice versa see X-ring shoot at Texas Plinking’s event
I'd like to see what Ray could do on the Backfire challenge.

your group sizes was AMAZING! Hella good shooting..!
When the first guy ditched his bag, I knew it was all downhill from there.
As a military sniper, these shots are really difficult without a spotter!
Most people don't appreciate the spotters but their work is holy!
For sure! Definitely not an easy challenge. Episode 2 is in the works for next week.
Dude with the stock savage had the best group 🤷🏻♂️ lol
I've got a 25 yr. old Savage 7mm (Accu-trigger & Accu-stock) that's a tac driver. For the price tag, they're hard to beat.

Good stuff! Yea, those wind flags were waving in the wind.
It was a little gusty! Thanks Kamper.
You could make the argument that the last placed person should get the nice scope; the first place person obviously has a good setup already! 😆
Because everybody would probably shoot poorly just so they could win the scope. 🤣
Love this new challenge!

Long range shooters of Utah have been doing this for a decade or more. Probably others, too. TP hasn't done anything new (plus he's mostly clueless).
I feel I’m watching Texas plinking 🤣
Even he asks the same questions and the way he edited it
Yes I agree, A shout out would have been nice!!!
I’ll do that on the next episode 👍🏼
That's a whole lot harder than it sounds. And when you look through the scope you'll see. Wow what a challenge and good luck to all.
Great video and competition. Don’t change a thing.
Great format.

Great challenge and great prize too! Zeiss scopes are bad a$$
Thanks Maxcoat and thanks for watching the channel.
"I can't see shit." 🤣
The 338 Savage with hand loads was sub MOA, just couldnt get wind. With a spotter he is 2nd round impact all day.
All the shouting and arguing going on in the background had to have some adverse effect on the shooters
I heard nothing in the rules prohibiting sidearms for exactly that situation.
im glad #4 won... he had the best grouping out of the 5 lol out of a savage no less!
He shot very well for sure.

Also work on his trigger discipline
