- This is a 2 part series of trying to buy the cheapest 6.5 Creedmoor and using an Arken SH4 shooting it out to a mile. No chrono, no levels and factory ammo. Can we do it?
Your channel is a GEM. You've taught me so so so much more than nearly everyone else on youtube. I can't thank you enough.
My pleasure and thank you for watching .
@@XRINGwell done but some child starting shooting could use the take off scope l
You are right. I’ll just take it to the next gun show and put it on the table for free. 👍🏼
😅 So x-ring conducts a 1,000 yard shooting academy off the back of the truck... Behind the gun store parking lot 🐒 I love that, man
🤣
I can’t believe it took so long, but I am very pleased that I found your channel. Good, practical, no BS info.
Was literally thinking the same thing! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN RAY!!! I'm mostly done with my budget build just like this in 6.5 cm and could have used you a year ago!
Ray you make it look SOOOO EASY. Your experience with firearms and Knowledge of Elevation & Windage is incredible in the field. It also shows that You the SHOOTER is a large factor. Again it was a pleasure learning from you personally.
As a resident of Kalifornia, I enjoyed seeing you purchase and walk out with a rifle in the same day.
Ya me too I was a lil jealous to be honest lol
Commiefornia
Amen brother! I am positively bewildered.
I have the original Ruger American predator in 6.5 Creed and I was impressed with the out of box accuracy. I put my Arken genII 6-24 on it and it is capable of hitting out to 1200 yds. I kept the original stock and did my own bedding and I ordered a carbon fiber wrapping kit and built up the stock and fitted it to my liking. My setup was just over $1000.
I have the same setup except I put mine in a mdt oryx chassis
Wonderful series. Showing people (often called "the poors") that they can get into distance shooting. Thank you so much.
I’ve got a tc compass (bought for $249 on sale at academy)that we took out to 1000 for under $700. Athlon Argos BTR gen2, 30moa rail from Amazon, stiffened the factory stock, bedded it ourselves, slapped an mcarbo trigger kit in it, and a $30 muzzle brake. It shoots about 5/8-3/4” 3 shot groups consistently, and has performed amazingly out to 1000.
You SIR just sold a few optics! I gotta check these out.. I don't spend much time in gun stores or in the forums.. I've never heard of Arken before this video but I trust your channel / opinion / experience more than most! So, Arken.. If you all read this.. Know there is an order coming your way thanks to this channel..
Arken>Vortex...warranty support unknown
I am ashamed I just now found this channel. Top notch content.
more useful data in 30 minutes than hours of other channels. Thank You
Just a tip,, once the shot is fired,, eject the case as fast you can(no stress) the heat will go from the case into the chamber walls,if the case is in the camber ,and air will be able to go trough the barrel because of the chimney effect,,(keep the barrel tilted as much as you can ) and cool the barrel faster
Great video, You just proved something I've believed for a long time 99% of the modern rifles will outshoot 99% of the shooters out here! And I need to spend ALL my money on ammo, just to work on your quote at 22:10 "Fundamentals of Marksmanship" I have no excuses left to use, You did it in the back of a pickup in a parking lot in a few hours!!! Bravo!!! I absolutely love this series!!!! Thanks!!
What an outstanding video. Goes to show what an expert can do with less than $1,000 whereas an inexperienced shooter can’t achieve with $5,000. With that said this channel will help us grow with practical skills and better product selection. Thanks for sharing!
LOVE it! So much of your approach is straight-forward and common sense, and I think a lot of folks really like to get caught up worrying about things that ultimately don't matter that much. You proved pretty succinctly that solid accuracy is pretty easily available, even on a budget.
Just ran across this video. I was so impressed that I am a new sub.
FYI. All savaged axis rifles are long action. They use same action for all long and short action calibers. That’s why you had to exchange the mounting rail. Great video. I will be watching more of your channel. I do wish you would have told us the barrel length and show the barrel profile a little better to give the viewer a better idea of what you are working with. I know the trigger is not good so I was very impressed with your shooting.
Every American needs to watch this video, and buy this rifle and scope and do what you just did and continue practicing on full silhouette sized targets. Seriously.. great video.
Thank you Juggernaut! I agree.
I don’t know about everyone else but with all this information ( research and testing) and the video to prove it , I believe this rifle setup just went up in value at least $400. 👍🏼
Great video.
Absolutely fantastic video last spring! Last video I went out with some friends to shoot out to 600 yds they brought their hunting rifles and I brought my 11.5 556 because it was what I was most familiar with and with a little help of 4dof I was able to get first round impacts all the way out to 500 and my friends started struggling at 300 . I realized even though they had hunted all their lives they had never taken a shot past 250 crazy.
My longest shot is 440 yards on a deer. At the ranges around here it’s 300yards. Someone has bound to have a longer range somewhere but I just don’t know about it. Many hunters just don’t have practice ranges to develop their long range shooting. Plus a lot of them just don’t have the time or won’t take the time. A lot of hunters only shoot their rifles just before the season starts and then if they see a deer. Then it’s cleaned and back in the gun cabinet or closet.
@@ecleveland1 exactly... but I didn't realize that until afterwards!
I recently joined the 1000 yard club with a HOWA 1500 $450.00 barreled action. I married it to an MDT chassis. I did spend a ton on a Vortex Razor (cause I'm a glass snob 🙂) - but, someone with younger eyes could probably do the same with a lot less. It's amazing how far the pew community has come with data and tech to get us to distance. You Sir, are a Master at this. Thank you for the video, had I seen this before, I would have probably copied your budget build and been done with it. Stay safe out there. God bless.
Get an Arken, you’ll be mad you spent thousands on that expensive scope
A Howa 1500 barreled action in an MDT Oryx chassis was my 2nd long range precision build but it put me over $1000 to complete as I didnt cut any corners.. but my very first long range precision rifle build was a Remington 783 Tactical HBT (Heavy Barrel Threaded) in 6.5 Creedmoor with 24" Heavy Barrel 1:8 twist, an Insight Arms Heathen G2 muzzle brake, factory trigger and stock, and I mounted a cheaper but very solid $200 Spina Optics 6-24x50 FFP MRAD scope with a 20MOA rail and a Harris bipod.. and I was just under $1000 -
@@joshuaw2988, there is only one scope that I would spend a thousand dollars on TRACT Toric; they are top-tier scopes in everything. You have young eyes, and Arken will do the job well enough. I have Arken, Athlong, Vortex PST line scopes, and Tract Toric; compared to these scopes, Tract is better glass. 72-year-old eyes with cataracts from Agent Orange, and I still can see through the Tract well enough, but not from the other scopes.
@@rudolphferdinand3634 I have a Tract Toric LPVO 1-8 and love it. Great scopes.
Welcome to the 1000yard club! It only gets more fun from here!
Thank you for the video! I enjoy seeing people doing great things with less! About 10 years ago I purchased an Savage 10FCP-SR .308 and enjoyed it so much, I then a Savage 10FCP-SR 6.5 Creedmoor. I installed "middle of the road" glass on each rifle. I reloaded ammo for each rifle, and both rifles were sub-MOA. However, the 6.5 Creedmoor would shoot 2 - 2.5 inch groups at 600 yards without any adjustments...NONE. Like this video, I enjoy doing more with less. I think I had about $1000 in each rifle and would upset the guys that had 10X the amount in their customer rifles. LOL! Keep up the fun videos.
I mean, spend the extra $150 (or so) on a heavier profile barrel version with an accu-trigger and you could be doing a mile under $1000 more comfortably! All-in-all, I love the premise. No shopping around, no BS. just in and out and shooting. Ill be around for the whole series. 6MAX brought be here, Ray keeps me around. Keep up the good work.
I love the fact that you just proved you don't need a $250 bipod to hit targets
What an amazing channel. I learned something. I've been sighting in a couple rifles lately. Never thought about letting the barrels cool down. Both of these were gas guns in 308.
Nice job Ray. A great advertisement for Savage and Arken. Great value for a good time.
Love this concept in this video and you did a great job covering it!
Also cool to hear you’re finding the Arken 7-35 very functional as well… confirms what I’m seeing with mine!
I’m very new to LRS, and just beginning to dabble in NRL22. The prevailing wisdom is that you need to spend no less than $1200 on a rifle and scope to consistently hit targets 175 - 200 yards away. So far you are shooting 3.5X that distance with 2/3 the cost. And I have no doubt you will hit that mile in the next video. You are truly a master of your craft.
Thnaks MJ!
I have done a lot of NRL22x and PRS rimfire competition and can say that you won’t go wrong with anything like a CZ 457 and an Arken or Athlon scope to stay in Production division.
The biggest advice is to take the time to lot test your ammo regardless of the make and model.
If you can consistently hold about 1” groups at 100yards for 10 shots you can compete and any level all the way out to 400yards.
You will need a Kestrel for the best results. You will also want about 40moa built into your scope base and mount setup.
👍🏼 best of luck to you and thanks for watching.
Long range on a budget, got my attention , great content.
I've been thinking about you since I heard about the 338 arc got announced. Your 338 razerback videos had me wanting one so bad. I live in Weaverville. I hope you faired well in the storm. Thanks for making content!
Thanks Ben! We are virtually neighbors. We fared just a lot of downed trees but no property damage. We were very fortunate and I hope the same for you. Thank you for watching.
Excellent work Ray. This video actually could be used very easily in firearms instruction for newbies and experienced shooters alike. Bullet point it (no pun intended), reference marks in the timeline, and anyone can learn the basics quickly. You are gold standard for information and delivery...and a must watch!
this is great! I had no idea those cheaper Savages could maintain this level of accuracy!
Thanks Martin! Good enough for the task.
I love seeing a video like this. I done almost exactly what you done here, but i used a lr308 with a 16in barrel. My first time out with the rifle and scope i literally zeroed at 100 and used an app to make first round impacts out to 600. I was honestly disappointed because i went out that day with the expectation of having to really work with the rifle and scope. Also, i was using a nikon 4x12 i got from walmart with a bdc reticle for 140$. With the scopes, ammo, rifles and apps we have now days its stretched what the average man is capable of. I also must say that i have seen videos posted of retired military snipers with supposedly great records struggle at 300 and 500yrds. As a matter of fact, it was 2 retired snipers with big followings that struggled to hit targets.
Seen one of those, a guy who appeared in some podcasts. Makes us all wonder.
@robertm8401 really make me wonder
Great video. You show how easy it can be to shoot long range. Plus the IPSC target is ideal for the average person. Hitting any steel at 500+ is a rewarding experience for new long range shooters.
Depending on the type of rifle, using FEMA money may not be bad. The first thing that popped in my head is hunting instead of paying for meat. I know my family eats $700-$800 of meat a month. Most people I know with a house has a deep freezer. Replacing that would cost way more than the gun. I could use the savings to go towards other repairs.
This is fantastic for someone like myself getting into long-range showing that you don't need a high-end setup to get started. Thanks.
I put an $20 mcarbo trigger kit on my Axis and was very impressed. It is very light and crisp. Hard to beat for the money.
Thanks for putting out this quality video. It is appreciated. I hope you are getting the enjoyment working on it that I'm getting watching it. I'm already excited about the dramatic conclusion.
Seeing a bullseye on the third shot from a new build was amazing. I love watching an expert work.
Knowledge + Equipment = ZEROED! Nice going, sir!
hell yeah! always an amazing video, ive started my journey with a savaged 12 and built it up from triggers, to chassis, to fun accessories, ive learned on ruger americans predators and enjoyed learning the basics to get where i want it go. amazing stuff and always enjoy your videos
Great video. Proves it’s within a blue collar hunter’s budget to have as much fun plinking with your deer rifle as with a multi thousand dollar custom.
Love it! I have shot low dollar equipment all my life but have found the stuff that works for the bucks. Savage, Ruger, Remington, Howa, Kimber will all do it.
Gidday from down in NZ. Awesome video man. Down here we'd have to clean the rifle before shooting as they ship with a protectorant in the bore.
I was wondering if he patched out the barrel....
Always good practice to clean a new rifle IMHO. One tiny metal shaving in the wrong place …
I always clean my new rifels with a fresh box of ammo cleans them out avery time.
I just found this channel and mad i didn't find it earlier. Love the video, brother.
It’s always getting easier man, and that’s a good thing honestly.
It’s just like AR-15’s. 20 years ago it would take thousands and a lot of specialist knowledge to get a Reddit special build.
Really enjoyed this build. I watched these backwards, just saw the second part and won't spoil it 😂. Thanks for the excellent video. I'm in TN and would love to be able to buy from Sportsmans Warehouse. I suppose I could and get it shipped to my local FFL.
This has been Amazing !! It starts with a man who can pull the trigger ! Ray is easily the best shot on youtube ! Everything matters, ammo, rifle, scope and shooter ! I could not do that with 10,000 dollar setup ! So there is hope for those who want to learn to shoot ! ;-)
Thank you Scotty, but I absolutely believe you can do this exact same thing as well.
I love the zero F's working that rifle over on the tailgate. Great stuff!
This is exceptionally helpful.
The simplified version, dumbed down for people like me. For me long range shooting is 300 yards with anything over 400 being ultra long range.
As far as the “cheap” Savage, well I think guns are like guitars they work or sound proportional to whoever’s hands their in.
Excellent video nullifying many of the myths that are adversely propagated. There is a caveat to all this of course - YOU can shoot!
Nice. Arken is really making a big splash with Savage and Ruger Americans. I used to think you had to spend a ton of money on optics, but some how Arken has found a way to make a good product affordable.
I have Arken scopes on a few rifles including a Mk12 AR15 and AR10 6.5. I saw how a Arken scope can take a impact, scope down on my 12.2 lb rifle from a 42" bench onto concrete. Never lost zero or tracking. People bash the Arken because of price, but I removed Vortex scopes and Nikon FX1000 from rifles to install Arkens after getting the first one and using it.
Very nicely done Ray! The equipment has definitely gotten cheaper and more capable for going long. Makes me chuckle! The 'this gun shoots like crap' or 'this ammo is garbage' crowd is gonna have to find new excuses for poor fundamentals. Thanks for all you do and bringing us along!
And yes, this was an absolutely fantastic video!
Thank you…. All of your videos are so informative. Learned a lot but somehow still have some trouble with my MPR 6.5 PRC… not fully understand how get in between yardage. For instance, 370 yards or 438 yards. I use my 6.5 PRC during the summer…helping farmers manage agriculture damage caused by deer.
Thanks touyang. You need some kind of ballistic calculator or app on your phone and just type in the yardage. It will give you those exact numbers for those distance.
Awesome find coming across this channel. getting ready to build a long range budget rifle. Was about to go with a PSA AR10
Howa 1500 6.5 mm Creedmoor bull barrel with standard Hogue stock. home bedded with a 3x19mm steel insert in the forend.
The scope is honestly a no name brand from a local gun shop. Honestly it has no branding on it. 1100 yards (1000 meters) absolutely no problem, maintains 1.25 MOA at that distance (no wind) Even my 11 year old grandson does it at that distance. Ammo, Sellier & Bellot 142 grains HPBT. Stuff is extremely expensive in South Africa, literally double the price or more compared to anywhere in the world. If you shop right you can really really build a budget rifle that can compete wait anything out there for a fraction of the price. I googled the Bipod, cannot remember the name, bought from a local shooting range, less than $60 in South Africa, half price anywhere else. Really guys, this video is proof once again you do not have to spend a fortune on equipment to have fun.
I love it when i see guys bring budget builds out and do well with them. The Howa is another great option for this same style build. Also as far as the scope base, a lot of companies now include both screws with the same side head for the axis. Im not sure why savage cant stick with the #8 screw.
Well done young man. Great video and how to do it quickly on a budget.
I just joined the club of hitting a mile with a 6.5. My setup is a savage 110 trail hunter with a 5-25x56 vortex venom. Have about $1100 in the scope, rings, and rifle. If I can do it, it definitely isn’t hard with all the technology available today. Great video, love your channel
Great video! its always enjoyable to watch a wizard of rifles!
Great video as always Ray. It’s crazy what’s capable now a days. I’d like to see you do a longish range test with your collection of 22lrs.
Very good content and proof you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a functioning long range rifle
Good vid Ray. Shows your point spot on
Excellent video!!!! My boss invited me to a 1 mile challenge... He has a 408 chytec and I'll be shooting my Seringetti 06!! 😂 Can't wait!! Keep up the good videos!
This is hilarious. Sold, Subscribed, Liked! I have been wanting a 6.5 Creed and out of morbid curiosity I have to go try this set up. Who the heck is Arken? Impressive and efficient use of your knowledge. I didn't catch the rings you used though. I saw the video stay on the Warne rings for a while. Assuming that is what you grabbed? Great video though, much appreciated!
This is awesome video man your like a hour from my house wish I would have known I’d like to have met you at the range. Cool video man also maybe something besides the 6.5 creedmoor next time? Thanks again man God bless
That is amazing and i learned new things. Awesome channel and skills
I appreciate it and thank you for watching the channel
Man this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been wanting to get into long range. But been seeing all the expensive setups. Trying to figure out how to justify it and go about it without going broke. I’ve got one of the older axis in 30.06 I got years ago for hunting
I feel like I need to delete every other gun tuber I have now that I’ve seen you shoot. Absolutely amazing.😊
THIS IS THE SUFF DREAMS ARE MADE OF!!!!!! Good deal nice to see what a low end rifle can actually do. Rember YOU still have to do your PART.
Thanks for a very informative video. Awesome shooting.
I bought one of these two years ago for my deer rifle. Its interesting to see how far you can push it! You might snag a mcarbo trigger spring kit its only 20 dollars so it keeps you well under your 1k but makes the trigger so much better.
You can order a 20 moa precision mount from Arken for the same price as rings instead of rings and get that 40 moa you are looking for. Awesome stuff Ray. I would for sure spend my fema bucks at the gun counter… rifle and some ammo could replace a lot of meat lost in that freezer…
Great video. I will definitely be watching tomorrow. That was great results considering the cost, the speed and how/where you set up the rifle. Another feat was getting out of Sportsman's in an hour with that crowd.👍
awesome video concept, great execution. Glad this video was served to me! subscribed for part 2!
I started shooting long range with a rugar american. Thats not what I use now but im grateful the big name brands have made entry level precision equipment available. Otherwise I may not have ever decided to give long range a shot. Great video. Now bring the AXSR back out.
“ In Ray We Trust “ nice work 👍🏻
Great video Ray. Always a pleasure and informative. Thanks.
Well you finally got to showing me something thank you
I haven't finished watching the video, but from the title and your opening comments, I wonder if it really should be "too easy, or more accessible?" Maybe great long range shooters are more plentiful because more people can access the equipment now that it's more affordable to enthusiasts. I'm enjoying your channel so far, thank you.
This is a really neat exercise.
Handling a firearm while others are down range is forbidden on any range I’ve been a member of. In a case or holster - fine. In your hands - no. I would trust *you* but not any random stranger. The safe thing is to apply the same rule to all people all of the time.
Superb shooting just shows it can be done with a budget package regards from the U.K.👍
can you recommend a bi-pod? Sensei 😂
You taught me more in 30 minutes than anyone my entire life. I had no idea you unlock the dials and literally lock to zero. That hornady app is like cheat codes.
Picking up this 6.5 tomorrow for $289 then throwing that sh4 arken on it for $300.
Should be sub 700
Phenomenal shooting!! Really enjoyed your videos. Keep it up 👍
Omg this is one of my favorite channels, that is really awesome
Awesome video. Thank you for this.
Hey, I could use that bushnell! Great video. I think a 6.5 might be my next purchase!
WOW. That's impressive. You've just gained a new subscriber. Thanks
Nice setup. Great information too. I'm looking at the Savage Axis II Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor. It's about $100 US more than that setup, minus the scope, which will be an Arken. So add another $350. Waiting till after the election before I spend anymore money.
Very informative video. Thank you for filming this episode.
I use a 60 moa rail on my Howa 1500 6.5 Creedmoor, with a SKW 35MRAD scope, 1,500 meters is tops for 140grain Berger
I know I will have to dial max and still hold in the reticle. 👍🏼
@@XRING yeah I seen you didn’t have enough elevation, but great video mate
@@shaneironside58 Thanks. Teaser alert. I put another 20moa on it when I got home so I can at least be lower in the reticle for today. I have to get up in a few hours for the mile day out there.
@@XRING cheers mate looking forward to your next video
Is the 6.5 hack I see guys on you tube talking really accurate enough to at least get you on target?
Awesome job Ray! 👏👏👏
Thanks Vince!
I'm glad the algorithm suggested this 2-parter to me
Second best video I’ve ever seen.
I just started looking into buying a 6.5 rifle for long range shooting and hunting. Trying to figure out what gun will do what it is very encouraging to see this.
Awesome video, always learn something watching your channel. Thanks!
I’ve got the same firearm. Get the MCarbo trigger kit and it measures in at around 1.5 to 2.5 lbs. Just make sure your ready to shoot when you put you finger on the trigger. When my pops shot it, the trigger was too light for him so he’d have to get on target and then get on the trigger.
I might be mistaken here, but I believe all Savage centerfire rifles are long actions regardless of caliber. I have an Axis II in .308 and it's also a long action.
Fantastic idea and video!! Can’t wait to see the next one.
Thank you sir . I learn a few things . That will help me set up my hunting rifle . For that posible 400 - 500 Yard shot on Elk .
