    With Rolex's and AP prices going insane, I wouldn't even consider those at the moment. This JLC is fantastic and I love how similar it is to the 2000s memovox dive watches (but with even more refinement like the clear back and better alarm center setter). The alarm is really a great function and one you'll want to wind up and use. You won't need to be a diver to use as you can set it for waking up or anything. This is definitely a watch you can wear for every occasion and I'd never get tired of that dial or using the alarm. The blue dial is also gorgeous here and not one you could find on the 2000s version unless you got the more expensive platinum version.

    An alarm on a dive watch is genius. Reminds you in case you happen to forget, and to top it off, sounds travels faster and is louder in water.

      They are different, that is all. Rolex is a great watch and is bullet proof. JLC is a finer watch but that can come with issues. Rolex never promised to be sexy or to produce haute horology. Rolex made its name producing good, tough watches for tough and rugged outdoor use. People sometimes forget that.

    • @patrickjean-philippe7679
      @patrickjean-philippe7679 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, Rolex produced good, tough watches for tough and rugged outdoor uses. Now with the 32XX calibers it seems that Rolex has some issues left unresolved to resolve.
      Yes, JLC is much more refined than Rolex, it also feels more delicate although I have not embarked on crash tests to compare the two… I have one JLC Memovox Tribute to Polaris 1968 which I bought new in 2008. Thus far I am delighted with it. On top of its stellar design and look, it keeps good time and has remained reliable even though it’s alarm woke me up for most of a year.

      This watch alarm has a very crystalline sound exactly like the old alarm ⏰ clocks. My guess is that its sound was incorrectly captured for this video but you may be able to check it with other videos. I have compared the alarm tone of the JLC Memovox Polaris 1968 and the JLC Memovox Tribute Polaris 1968 which was released in 2008 and the former sounds like a buzzer whilst the later emits a beautiful crystalline sound loud enough to wake me up. In fact I used my watch alarm to wake me up for the most part of a year. Fantastic ! 👍🏽😉

    • @patrickjean-philippe7679
      @patrickjean-philippe7679 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sound propagates much better under water than through ambient air so yes the alarm will be heard pretty loud under water. It will be much louder than what was heard from the video especially that its sound was not properly captured. My JLC Memovox Tribute to Polaris 1968 woke me up for most of a year spent working on an oil & gas offshore platform…

    • @patrickjean-philippe7679
      @patrickjean-philippe7679 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s incorrect, the sound propagates better and with much less attenuation under water vs within ambient air. The denser the medium the better the sound propagation.

    JLC bracelets are really quite terrible though. The Polaris bracelet is thin, rattly and uses pin sleeves still. Get it sorted JLC.

    • @krokodyl1927
      @krokodyl1927 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alec, it’s good of you to point out the bracelet’s integrity being dependent on pin sleeves. I have owned a 2000 Omega diver that also had pin sleeves keeping the bracelet together. It fell off my wrist twice. I wasn’t about to wait for a ‘strike 3’ opportunity & promptly sold it. Using those funds to buy a 1976 Rolex Oyster Perpetual (which is incredibly accurate to 3-4 sec/day) was one of my smartest moves. I’m an older gent that has owned some great timepieces over the years, my 1st one being a 1981 Rolex Oyster Perpetual that incidentally kept horrible time despite 3 adjusting services. I feel lucky this time. 👍😊

      Absolute nonsence, JLC bracelets are some of the best out there, the worst bracelets I have came across are Pre ceramic Rolex.

    • @alectang1614
      @alectang1614 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@krokodyl1927 pin sleeves isn't the issue when it comes to security (in fact pins are more secure than screws as they generally won't back out over time).
      However, the Polaris bracelet is very thin and compares poorly to the competition from IWC, Rolex, Omega, Glasshutte Original - it's not even made in-house by JLC. It's made in France. I know this because I owned a Polaris on bracelet.
      The Oyster perpetual is indeed a solid watch and one of my favourites from the Rolex catalogue. For me it's the Original Rolex.

    • @alectang1614
      @alectang1614 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardweir3342 I wish I was talking nonsense but unfortunately it's true. You can't compare a modern JLC bracelet to a pre-solid link Rolex bracelet. This Polaris bracelet compares very poorly to its competition from IWC, Rolex, Omega, Glasshutte Original - it rattles, the links are just very thin and it's not even made in-house by JLC - I know this because I owned a Polaris on a bracelet for a year and it clearly states "Made in France." Pretty poor from such a great company like JLC.
      JLC's best bracelet came with the Master Compressor GMT - that was a beast of a bracelet with hidden screws in the centre links. Too bad they don't make the Master Compressor line anymore.

      That's true JLC used to have amazing bracelets and now they are quite trash compared to the rest of the Industry, although their leather straps are still on point IMO.
