    Discover through our 4K-video the #JaegerLeCoultrePolarisMarinerMemovox and the #JaegerLeCoultrePolarisMarinerDate are two new models that unite fully ISO 6425-compliant specifications for certified divers with the sporty aesthetic of the contemporary Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection.
    The 42 mm cases feature the key design codes of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris cases with their taut lines, glass-box crystals, and dynamic mix of brushed and polished surfaces. In keeping with their purpose as a high-performance diving watches, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner cases are water-resistant to 300 metres (30 bar). Furthermore, the crown used to set the notched inner-bezel is screwed-down to avoid any unintentional movement, with the addition of an orange security band to warn divers when it is not fully screwed down.
    The hands, indexes and numerals are filled with SuperLumiNova to ensure excellent legibility in low light, as required of all diving watches. However, Jaeger-LeCoultre has gone a step further, maximising divers’ safety by using different colours to distinguish the hour and minute hands. The running seconds hand is tipped in orange for daylight visibility, with a central luminescent section to avoid any possibility of confusion with the other hands.
    The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Date offers the classic diving-watch functions of hours and minutes, with a running time indicator (seconds hand) and unidirectional inner bezel, and the addition of an instantly-jumping date display. The dual-crown configuration is typical of super compressor-type diving watch cases, with the upper crown for operating the inner bezel and the lower one for setting the time and date.

    Let us also look back...
    Back in the fifties, scuba diving was a risky and challenging military activity. The only tool available for diving was the watch, which created a strong demand for professional diving timepieces. In 1959, Jaeger-LeCoultre responded with a unique solution, a self-winding Memovox movement, which provided an aural warning that it was time to return to the surface. This was followed in 1968 by the Memovox Polaris, with an internal rotating bezel as well as the alarm, and a triple-layer case-back for better sound transmission.
    The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox pays direct homage to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s first diving watches, with their robust capabilities and distinctive aesthetic. The self-winding movement, Calibre 956, is also a direct descendant of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s first automatic alarm watch calibres. Introduced in 2008, it has been comprehensively revised by the Manufacture’s engineers for this latest generation of alarm watches. By the way this is exactly the watch you also see in the Video...
    Previously, Memovox watches had a closed case-back, to which the gong was attached; however, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox has a transparent sapphire case-back, allowing the wearer to watch the hammer in action. This demanded a complete redesign of the striking mechanism, with the gong now attached to the case side. The open-worked heavy metal rotor ensures an unobstructed view of the strike-works, its Côtes de Genève decoration matching the fine finishing on the movement plates. One important element remains unchanged, however: the signature “school bell” sound of the alarm, which lends such charm to the Memovox...

      Great video, appreciate all the details. Either of you have an opinion about the bracelet? I've gotten mixed reviews, and won't spend this kind of $ for a poor bracelet. Rubber one is great I've heard. Almost 16mm thickness is quite large. Distracting? Heard the lume was an issue too. Love any info.
      Never held one. I'm in love/lust with that memovox, so tempted to order one online, but I've never done that with a watch, but trust JLC above all.
      Thanks again

    Beautiful watch and one I am saving up for. The one huge drawback that you didn't mention is the orange lume on the minute track fades quickly which reduces its utility as an actual dive watch. Well, in the JLC world this watch is 2000 dollars more expensive than the Master Control Memovox Timer - the limited edition with the timing feature and spectacular blue dial. For the additional USD 2000, one gets a steel bracelet and 300 m water resistance instead of 50 m. So in comparison, it is not too bad. The only problem is that many people think the Memovox Timer is already overpriced. www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us/en/watches/master/master-control-memovox-timer/410848J.html

    Nice watches but I don’t think they will not age well due to the gradient dial. Having said that, it is great that the Polaris is being revisited after the release from a couple of years ago.
    I bought the Polaris with date but the deployant buckle was very uncomfortable. Fortunately the store took the watch back because they rushed the sizing of the watch and therefore didn’t realize that it didn’t fit me properly. JLC needs to provide more strap options for the Polaris line.
    IMO, the nicest steel sports watch at this price point ($12k USD) is the new limited edition Piaget Polo S with green dial and gold hands. Will you be reviewing/showcasing the watch?

On a bracelet now. The previous non-LE polaris date also did not have screw down crowns and is $8400 on a rubber strap today.

    The Date (no alarm) model is really the one to get, it’s considerably thinner and more wearable, longer 70 hour power reserve, and the alarm isn’t really worth the extra money. My local JLC dealer just got one, I am considering getting it. Still a couple of clear fails that prevent the watch from achieving true greatness or widespread commercial success: (1) the winding crown (not just the bezel crown) needs to be screw in, it is inexcusable that it’s not on a high end diver, (2) the bracelet being held together with friction pins is inexcusable in 2020 at this price range, (3) too much high polish on the bracelet (again indicating it’s not a real dive watch, as even Rolex doesn’t use polished links on dive watches). But the design of the dial is gorgeous and the case has excellent and compact footprint (short lug to lug) for a diver of this size.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With or without screwed in crowns the watch is waterproof to 300 meters... Modern constructions do guarantee waterproofness with gaskets alone. I agree with the bracelet. I go even further and claim the watch should be delivered with a canvas-/nato-strap and feature a solution so one can easily change it at home. If I were you I’d still consider to buy the alarm version if you want/can spend the extra... Have you heard the alarm live once? Incredible... the antidote to bits and bytes...

      This idea that only a screw down crown guarantees some sort of seal against water (screw down is not laser welded hermeticity afterall) seems to have been conditioned in you by marketing. Gaskets achieve this, not the screw down crown. The only reason the crown that operates the inner bezel is screw down is to prevent it from accidentally engaging the mechanism that will change the bezel from when it was originally set.
      You might want to clarify your assertion that Rolex doesn't offer polished links on their dive watche bracelets as meaning specifically their Stainless Steel bracelet options. Last I checked, their two tone Rolesor bracelets are very much polished on the centerlinks, and I know divers who took their Bluesies out for dives.
      Your comment on the pins...no argument there. Agreed.

I'll hold off on any purchase of JLC or Glashutte until I can walk into a dealer and see it, try it on, purchase it, have the bracelet sized, etc. Too many other quality watch brands, for me to consider, with ADs and boutiques within easy reach from where I live. Again thanks for your offer.

    Real nice looking watches but I wish they had solid case backs which would have allowed the watch to be thinner and also I'm not crazy about see through case backs on divers.

      So many want a see through case back... Finally there are some... If were Jaeger-LeCoultre, I would offer both versions...

    Thanks and because of your video (and two others), I bought the last remaining Memovox in US. Now it is officially sold out in North America. That was quick for a JLC product which is not widely appreciated.

      Yes, it is surprising that most people’s interest go towards chronographs, GMT, rattrapantes but hardly ever towards the alarm complication which I love.

    This dial looks to me very much like the north America limited edition. Do you think? Great presentation as always.

    Nice watch, still deciding betweenn this watch or an Omega Seamaster Deep Black...

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Difficult decision! Best would be to compare both on the wrist ... one after the other ... and then to let your heart decide ... Be sure to buy emotional and not rational!

    Was looking at the GO seaq, Rolex Explorer (will see if they update to a 41 and with the new movement) , now this Polaris Mariner (date only model) . I have a feeling this list will get longer.

      The more watches you put on the list, the more difficult it will be... 😉 I couldn’t decide even now ...

      This is ma favorite diver now! But I would wear it with a cool Nato or nylon/tissue strap and not with that bracelet... To "heavy" for me...

    With Jaeger-LeCoultre watches why would you consider a Rolex with their bad service.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Besides very much agreeing that a Jaeger-LeCoultre is a good choice I want to be curious and ask you: What kind of issues did you have with Rolex?

      I don't understand... "What about the value to get from the Tudor Heritage Advisor?" Can you please specify this?

    • @mastermindmanagement6190
      @mastermindmanagement6190 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just curious if you thought the Tudor provides the same level of value (size,alarm, water resistance, heritage) as the JLC? Don't get me wrong, if given the option, I'd take the JLC but is Tudor Heritage Advisor, worthy of being in the same company as this watch? Thanks for taking time to reply.

    Is Easy link implemented only on one side of clasp? Or on both?
