I think its intended as a surprise as well, a harmless one. The writers knew that by this point in your game, you will definitely not have a problem with defeating it especially if you feel confident you can take on the other two who are shown, so why not leave it a little surprise with punny clue; being a brand new pokemon. It's fun, I like it.
there's so much to explore and do in this generation! combined with being able to play as a female trainer for the first time in Crystal, there are so many happy memories you helped me remember. thank you ❤
I had this Prima guide as well as its updated version that fixed about 50% of the errors but still had errors. I always thought that this initial version of the guide seemed like it was trying to keep some things secret so that you’d discover them on their own. I thought it was silly when it called Wobbuffet horrifying and mysterious in the Dark Cave section (not mentioning it by name) - that’s one of the other cases akin to the Magcargo one you call out the guide on.
I think this was the guide that I wrote in when I was 13 or so and had a lot of sass. I distinctly remember writing something like "It's just wobbuffet..."
Ngl you are doing a great job not only with the videos but also the thumbnails. Very well designed and eye catching. Watched the first part of this like 3 times because when I see such a cool thumbnail I can't help but want to rewatch! Keep up the great work!
In hindsight it would have been pretty cool if every game let you go back to kanto as a post game to see how it progresses over the years or from another perspective. Like did blaine ever build a new gym or was cinnabar abandoned? Did remnants of rocket dully go away? Did the saffron fighting gym ever get certified? Did Misty ever get to go on her date? I wish to know these things.
Imagine if Blaine moved to fighting dojo because Cinnabar got demolished and karate kings were like "aw come on, we're kicked out again?" So they build another gym next to other two just to spite Blaine and Sabrina lmaoooo
Love the series! Would love to see you doing a big ol' game like Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy. I remember using the FFIX guide tears ago and getting baffled when i couldnt learn a certain spell in Dali that the guide assured me i could!
This is based on ~20 year old memories of this very guide, but I was always pretty sure that there were a number of pokemon that they were either not allowed or not willing to spoil for the guide, hence the ??? in Blaine's team and stuff like the missing baby pokemon pictures (it wasn't that they lost the pictures or didn't know where to find them). I seem to remember it also being fairly coy about the identity of the Tyrogue you get from Karate Master Kiyo (despite [mis]naming Tyrogue in the section about baby pokemon); they were allowed to publish full details of Hitmontop but only a little bit about Tyrogue. Again, this all made perfect sense to me at the time and while it does seem weird and arbitrary in retrospect, it feels like the kind of information management that sometimes happens around newly released games.
Over 160 pages? Dang, I forgot just how meaty strategy guides used to be back then. The last few strategy guides I ever saw in stores were around when the Switch came out, and they were all tiny little dinky things for $9.99 or $14.99 US. I still have some of these old guides, in particular, one for Gold and Silver that, I don't remember the publisher, but I remember the guide being really snarky and sarcastic about most of the Pokémon, but it was also the first guide to have an actual Pokedex inside
I wouldn’t blame you Both are only found on cycling road in Kanto, despite being Johore poke I hated that fact with some johto Pokémon only found in Kanto
@@Jac735 IMO Houndour and Murkrow, if they wanted to save for late game, shouldve either been at the Lake of Rage routes or south of Blackthorn City Slugma shouldve been a Burn Tower Misdreavus shoudve been moved to Ice Path at nights like Cystal did with Sneasal (they removed it from Mt.Silver but made it avalaible on Ice Path)
I believe that Blaine at one point was planed to have a Mewtwo in Gold and Silver, but it ended up being cut and replaced. That might be were the comment comes from in the guide. 9:55 This ended up being depicted in the Manga as Blaine is part of Mewtwo's creation, but it never did make it into the games. The let's go games did point this out more though.

I'm just now watching through this series, unlocking some long lost memories. When I played Gold I didn't speak any English, but I managed to beat it because I remember getting to post-game - and then becoming confused because I didn't know how to get back, and then once I managed I couldn't return because I had no clue what to do except for trying allll the things. So because I couldn't find the boat again, I thought I had made it up and there never was a post game to start with. Maybe I should give it another go 🤔😂
I have a different guide for gold and silver that I picked up for $4 used as a kid called the official perfect guide. You're making me want to play through gold and silver again. They're my favourite games.
Technically he did, just not directly. You might have been too busy wiping the floor with their faces to notice, but both his former lackeys and his son battled you multiple times in the game.
Recommendation for future games: anything that allows for tons of customization in approach so the guide used will carry more weight. Zelda might be fun as an aside, but RPGs will probably be the best choice of games to use since your style will be dictated by the recommendations the guide makes. Paper Mario or Final Fantasy perhaps?
Upvoted for username. Playing through Gold again for the first time since I was a kid and named my new Typhlosion "Col. Mustang," after the legendary burninator from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Having just binge watched all of these Pokemon as Nintended videos I would personally like to see another Pokemon video. But I do not think that I would be adverse to seeing something else. Especially if it's an older game
Challenge idea, baby pokemon only, pichu, azurill, togepi etc. Since you seemed impressed by the daily events, did you also know, that the game had gameboy printer functionality? I personally completely overlooked this feature. I also didn't understand the 'envelopes' and 'stamps' and things from the hoenn region. I also didn't really do anything with the secret base system in that game. I was also one of those dumb kids who only played through the game once. I personally think it would make sense to be able to pick up a legit mew after some puzzle solving in the kanto post-game in gold/silver/crystal.
i would love one of these videos for spin-off games like pokemon rangers shadows above almia because back when i got this game as a kid many many christmases ago i got it with a guide book and it was actually really good
Same, I was in my mid teens when I played the first time. When I got older and more into computers I was impressed they fit this much into a 2mb cart. The other negative I hear a lot is the levels of trainers. I was the kid who took "gotta cath em all" seriously so I liked the lower levels in the game. I could use newer caught pokemon in trainer battles to evolve them faster.
@GHZ J2391 I agree the level scaling and overall progression towards the end game in gen 2 isn't good. Mostly a problem for people solo running or not leveling other pokemon as they go. Especially the Kanto gyms. I think that kind of exp share you mentioned is boring though. I haven't played anything past gen 5. Gen 1 had similar exp share mechanics, though so I can commenton that. It was a key item that split half the exp between party pokemon with the other half going to the battle participants. I look at it like this, what is the point of having a hundred (or in the case of newer gens multiple hundreds of) individual pokemon if you never at least try to use them. Granted not everyone will play a game for the same reasons, and everyone is going to have their preferred playstyles.
So, the guide I had growing up called Red's Espeon something COMPLETELY different. Little did I know back then that the guide didn't actually TRANSLATE Espeon's name, calling it EIFIE. Sabrina's Espeon was ESPEON. But not Red's Espeon. So, for the longest time, I thought Red had some super secretly rare Pokemon, because they didn't have any images for the pokemon used.
I had Gold and Crystal. They were a blast and I stopped playing pokemon after that cause I didn't get a GBA until much later on. In 2009 I did spend the whopping $60 for a micro and Firered. Love watching your videos to clue me in was there anything I missed. But yeah, the post games were awesome. In Firered, the Sevi islands were mind blowing to me after I beat Blaine. I couldn't sleep that night after beating Blaine, I had to play through until I fixed that machine on Sevi island 1. What a blast.
Since it was printed before the game was released, the Blaine part might have been for Mewtwo (I believe its like that in the manga), but then it might have been changed before release.
I remember losing to Red at least 20 times when I was 7. Ended up winning because I had a level 88 Feraligatr and a 71 Lugia with a bunch of fillers lol
Yeah, it is considered as Postgame, however in speedruns Red is where the speedrun really ends. Not the same as BW where doing the game to Alder is considered in a different category. EDIT: About Magcargo, it's probably because Slugma is literally the latest Pokemon you can get apart from Larvitar in the game.
If you go to the dragons dens after you beat your rival in Mount moon and talk to him and then go back to the elite four you can face him one more time.
"What's next for your rival? After beating him here (Mt. Moon), your Rival runs off to sulk. But it's not necessarily the last you'll see of him... To fight him again, go to the Indigo Plateau on Mondays and Wednesdays, and he'll be waiting near the stairs (his Pokémon are between level 45 and 50). On Tuesday and Thursday, you can find him pondering deeper matters in Blackthorn's Dragon's Den. However, he will not attack you there." - strategywiki for Gen 2
As someone said, it was very rude and wrong for them to literally demolish a Pokemon Tower for graves to build a Radio Tower I’m betting LAvandar citizens made a lot of push back and the people building the tower didnt give a fuck about pokemon The Johto Radio leader said he built the tower to honor pokemon, but he built it over the old radio tower that was falling apart. The Kanto Radio leader can never say something like that since he isn’t honoring Pokemon at all. He couldve opened up the radio station anywhere but choose to demolish grave site
It would be interesting to have a evaluation of a few of the most significant or major guides for a certain Pokémon game, comparing a few criteria, such as for example wich has the best strategy, best written with fun lore and trivia and wich is easiest to understand, or something similar.
I think it’s important to remember these guides were probably translated by Japanese people into English, and was intended for children. So the secret Blaine Pokémon was probably intended to create some mystery and tension.
another theory for the ??? (Magcargo) could be that I believe it wasn't really seen or obtainable in the Johto region (one of a few new pokemon only available in Kanto for some reason) so maybe it was to add a bit of a surprise. Or maybe they just fumbled a bit lol
I’ll never quite get over the fact that they decimated an entire tower of irreplaceable Pokémon graves and built a radio tower in its place.
They moved the graves to a new building.

That said, the fact that there's so many fire types with no particularly natural home in RGB might imply that there was at one point supposed to be a volcano there.
Cinnabar island is the volcano. It’s in the cartoon.
@@aurafox1 in the Lets Go Map Description they Clearly say there is a Volcano in Cinnabar, so Gamefreak is just to lazy to actualy put a Volcano there or its a Underwater Volcano
Here's a fun fact: Erika was originally going to be a ghost type gym leader in lavender town. In Red, Green, and Blue she's wearing something (I forget what exactly) that is worn in Japanese culture but the way she's wearing it is the way someone wears it if they're dead, in Yellow they changed it to be worn the normal way. Also Agatha was originally not going to have any ghost types on her team too. Also Giovanni was organized going to be a Flying-Type gym leader...oh I'm rambling again
A new player after reading about Blaine's ??? Pokémon : Oh my god, I think he is about to use a legendary, if he'll be that tough, there's no way I am gonna defeat Blue, I am scared!
After seeing it's a Magcargo which get one shot by a single Earthquake : Rest In Peace guide book, now I am gonna hammer away you...
Truly lay down the law for such a mistake
I think they did it as some sort of surprise but if you are using a guide you gave up on surprise and probably want the damn info
Considering Sea Form Island is where Articuno resides, they probably making it more mysterious for previous Gen1 players
@@Apocalypse4162 true
there's so much to explore and do in this generation! combined with being able to play as a female trainer for the first time in Crystal, there are so many happy memories you helped me remember. thank you ❤
This was a real good 🎮and there was alot of things to do but if you beat most of the trainers it gets kinda boring
I like the fact that some random npc has a key item. Just kind of reflects how some unassuming people can have the wildest and unbelievable stories.
Another amazing video, don't even need to watch it to know.
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS! I WAS SO UPSET YOU LEFT US HANGING! Thank you!
You uploaded this while I was playing Pokémon Silver
The dancing Clefairy also leave a Moon Stone behind.
The most anticipated sequal of 2021.
you know for the longest time i thought slugma and magcargo were gen 3 pokemon.......
I wouldn’t blame you
Both are only found on cycling road in Kanto, despite being Johore poke
I hated that fact with some johto Pokémon only found in Kanto
@@aceclover758 yea that's weird just like the Kanto Pokémon how they were in johto kinda weird
@@Jac735 IMO
Houndour and Murkrow, if they wanted to save for late game, shouldve either been at the Lake of Rage routes or south of Blackthorn City
Slugma shouldve been a Burn Tower
Misdreavus shoudve been moved to Ice Path at nights like Cystal did with Sneasal (they removed it from Mt.Silver but made it avalaible on Ice Path)
I've never cared for the post game. But GSC are my most nostalgic games. I love them.
Facts same
I believe that Blaine at one point was planed to have a Mewtwo in Gold and Silver, but it ended up being cut and replaced. That might be were the comment comes from in the guide. 9:55 This ended up being depicted in the Manga as Blaine is part of Mewtwo's creation, but it never did make it into the games. The let's go games did point this out more though.
The post-game of Gold and Silver is fantastic!
10:03 I'd like to think that's because he is "The Hotheaded Quiz Master"
When I was younger, I wish I had not been so afraid to erase my game and start over but trading Pokémon to another game and also starting over with Pokémon caught in postgame traded back to the game, faster EXP too!
Maybe I should give it another go 🤔😂
Do Pokemon Colosseum I remember having that guide as a kid and it would be cool I think it was a prima guide
Definitely more Pokémon games! I collect the Pokémon guide books so it’s interesting to see someone follow them so closely to beat these games
I have a different guide for gold and silver that I picked up for $4 used as a kid called the official perfect guide. You're making me want to play through gold and silver again. They're my favourite games.
I really wish giovanni had some kind of influence in this, like maybe he became the owner of a museum or the president of police idk
"President of police"
Technically he did, just not directly. You might have been too busy wiping the floor with their faces to notice, but both his former lackeys and his son battled you multiple times in the game.
@@indeed260 i just realized how stupid i sound lmaoo
I cant believe the gameboy color could actually fit 2 regions
Granted there are a few changes but hey that's cool since you get that nostalgia
they totes forgot about magcargo or something and then played it up as something scary to hide the fact that they forgot
I never actually played the original Gold and Silver. Just crystal and it ended up being one of my favorite games
Crystal was good I just liked silver spirits a little bit better
NGL i love these videos
I appreciate you showing the page on Red. There's just something about old documented info
Man just watching the first pt made happy but now I feel even more happy thanks to this 2nd pt
Upvoted for username. Playing through Gold again for the first time since I was a kid and named my new Typhlosion "Col. Mustang," after the legendary burninator from Fullmetal Alchemist.
@@cheshirecynic4524 sick
@@goodguytyphlosion3347 Not half as sick as the scene that inspired the name - when Mustang cauterizes his own wounds, then shows up to save the day by torching Lust over and over and over and over, until she finally disintegrates into ash. Now I need to watch Brotherhood again lol
@@cheshirecynic4524 damn your comment alone had me wanting to watch FMA
@@goodguytyphlosion3347 DO IT!
I've never watched the other version, but FMA: Brotherhood is the best anime I've ever seen. Akira, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Dragonball are the only other shows that even come close.
I was just playing pokemon crystal and am at this very point in the game. you forget how good it is sometimes. amazing video!
You could always do the Legend of Zelda games as Nintended.
That's boring as shit
I'd watch it if he did
Oh yes, that would be cool.
@@marvelousball don’t watch it then

I get home after a long day at work and what’s the first video TH-cam suggests? Papasea’s new video. Time for some much needed enjoyment ❤️
This is such a fun series!
I just beat Kaneshiro's palace in Persona 5 today, and as I'm watching the intro, all I can notice is that you used Life Will Change. I approve.
Im a new sub and already loving all your vids!!
“As Nintended” is the most hilarious thing I’ve ever heard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The credits roll after you fight red so you could count beating red as becoming the actual Pokemon champion
i would love one of these videos for spin-off games like pokemon rangers shadows above almia because back when i got this game as a kid many many christmases ago i got it with a guide book and it was actually really good
Always love this kinda videos
Tbh I always found the Kanto portion to be rather anticlimactic when I was a kid.
Same but when we grew up and realized memory limitations it became obvious.
Heart gold and silver made it a little better
Heartgold was my first Pokémon game, so for me it was awesome!!!
The King Returns.
What a blast.
you're my favorite channel to watch late at night on my 3ds
I don't think I've ever had a guide book for any game new or old that didn't have insane errors. I do miss them though! 😭
Since it was printed before the game was released, the Blaine part might have been for Mewtwo (I believe its like that in the manga), but then it might have been changed before release.
FUCK YEAH I DROPPED EVERYTHING TO WATCH THIS
I hammered away at that like button.
the Prima ruby/sapphire guide is something I used to read myself to sleep with o.0
I do the same (present tense) with the EarthBound one
The pallet in this game is so pleasant
haha funnieieie
What about the town
Nice! you hammererd away most of the game
This is blowing my mind, i never you could go back to the gen 1 place. 20 years or so after playing this game lol!
The video everyone has been waiting for
I remember losing to Red at least 20 times when I was 7.
As someone said, it was very rude and wrong for them to literally demolish a Pokemon Tower for graves to build a Radio Tower
I’m betting LAvandar citizens made a lot of push back and the people building the tower didnt give a fuck about pokemon
The Johto Radio leader said he built the tower to honor pokemon, but he built it over the old radio tower that was falling apart.
The Kanto Radio leader can never say something like that since he isn’t honoring Pokemon at all.
He couldve opened up the radio station anywhere but choose to demolish grave site
Appreciate the "hammer away" call back!
It would be interesting to have a evaluation of a few of the most significant or major guides for a certain Pokémon game, comparing a few criteria, such as for example wich has the best strategy, best written with fun lore and trivia and wich is easiest to understand, or something similar.
i just started watching this video series today and huh ! what do you know, a new video ! a very welcome surprise, these are very fun videos :-)
I remember I got stuck at this part so I never finished it and I lost the savefile. So thanks for showing me what happens afterwards :D
Oh, I was waiting for this!
Magcargo is slimy and if you didn't know it was supposed to be lava it would obviously creep you out.
I had a bunch of Pokemon guides as a kid, so I pretty much did it this way every time
I love these videos. Keep up the great work!
Why did you not show us one of the greatest lines in all of pokemon?!? “
Foreign Rocket Grunt: “Bye Bye a go go.”
I think it’s important to remember these guides were probably translated by Japanese people into English, and was intended for children. So the secret Blaine Pokémon was probably intended to create some mystery and tension.
TH-cam nintended for me to see this video and enjoy it as i always do great vid PaPa
another theory for the ??? (Magcargo) could be that I believe it wasn't really seen or obtainable in the Johto region (one of a few new pokemon only available in Kanto for some reason) so maybe it was to add a bit of a surprise. Or maybe they just fumbled a bit lol
