Thank you for being the first person in the comment section I found that actually was thinking what I was thinking. We only know how much play time there was on that save file.
All that's left to do is to back-up the save file on a computer, somehow write the save file onto the 3DS Virtual Console versions of the Japanese Gen 1 or 2 games, transfer the shiny Alakazam with the Poké Transporter to Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home. The oldest shiny in existence can continue to live on in the modern day era for years to come to experience new adventures in future gens.

While I want to believe the save goes back to 1997 it could honestly be one of many new game saves from then to now. Only way to know is to ask the seller. Assuming they are the original owner.
Someone else has probably said this but the gen 2 games have an internal clocks that keeps in game time so will run down as it’s constantly “ticking” gen 1 carts on use battery when the game is saved so the less you the game the longer the battery will last…

What a find! I can only imagine the thrill! Me and a friend are playing Gold and Silver right now. One day at lunch i thought I'd level my Pokemon real quick in the burned tower. My weepingbell leveled up and learned sweet scent. I used it and first go a shiny Magmar appeared. Threw an ultra ball, 3 great balls, and then my fast ball caught it luckily because i only had a lure ball left. I've been over the moon about it!
Wow that must have been an insane experience as well! Thanks for sharing that amazing story and congratulations on your new shiny! Enjoy the nostalgic playthrough together with your buddy! :)
Your reaction is great. Just slowly and half paying attention to what you’re doing it took several seconds for your eyes to tell your brain what you were looking at! Awesome!
You don't necessarily need to replace the batteries on RBY. GSC did because they had the clock on the cartridge, and RSE did only for time based events (again because of the clock). I have heard of RBY batteries dying too but mine have not. Seconding another commenter's suggestion: Back up your old games using Stadium (N64 cartridge batteries basically last forever). But RBY are more durable than you might think
That Kadabra looks so cool, i would dump the savefile to 3DS VC and then get it into home hahahaha, if you don't do that, at least PLEASE preserve that save, nice video dude!
This is artifact levels of rare in gaming treasures/history ! Im so glad this shiny kadabra/alakazam found a proper home , plus this is actually a very good shiny too !
I used a phone mirror software to capture my desk, I never really expected to find something crazy and just wanted to somehow real quick record the unboxing on stream haha! That solution seemed good enough in that moment, obviously it's now visible in the vid but I guess it doesn't matter that much.
My first shiny was early 2001 in Crystal - Slowpoke on my way to the Elite Four, I don't know if I have it still (I did move it across games when I could but lost track)
Pretty awesome to see! With over 30 million copies of the gen 1 games sold, a ton of people probably got a shiny starter without ever knowing it, especially since a very small amount would connect their game to GSC or Stadium 2 to see the shiny.
I have juat pulled my blue version out with original save file from 1999, i need to check this out myself, that would be awesome. The excitement in his voice makes me so happy to watch.
I absolutely *_love_* how it actually takes a few moments for him to register that it was a shiny. You can see the exact moment his heart skips several beats as he realises what he discovered
When I was a kid I had red blue and yellow, and did a full 150 pokedex, no Mew though. The glitches to get it weren't known by me or my friends at that time. When gold and silver came out I traded all my pokemon over to do a full dex in gold and silver. I ended up having a shiny Zapdos. The battery on the Silver version I kept it on is long dead already unfortunately. My battery died in the early to mid 2000s so it's crazy to see a red version with a working battery.
Factor batteries are really rare: My Red and Yellow still hanging on. My blue isn't though. Sucks too cause big fear of losing my yellow save that has all pokemon
I really hope the Japanese player that bought the Abra from the Game Corner in the 90s is somehow made aware of this. Can you contact the seller you got the cartridge from and see if it’s that person? If we can get an interview with them we can get a better confirmation maybe on the date the shiny was obtained!
I don't think most people would care in the slightest. I can't fathom this guys reaction to finding out a pokemon, when transferred to another generation, has a different colour palette.
@@Kurtlen I'm a big pokemon fan from the 90's. I guess i can kind of understand, since i somewhat enjoy the grind of breeding perfect IV Pokemon.. And sure i can get some people might want to complete a Pokedex with shiny Pokemon... But searching old games for shiny Pokemon? I dunno. Besides, games are so hacked these days you get a complete shiny Pokedex in 30 minutes.
Oliver said a bad word! D: All in all, congratulations on the rare find man, the odds of not only getting an "original" cart with a working battery but also a shiny Made it all worth it in the end.
20:52 game time with several level 100s? Some of the pokemons on the game file seem to have come from a Game shark or is bugged into the game. Hitmonshan was level 100 with only 2 moves as well, which is strange for a leveled pokemon unless the owner took it to the move deleter for some reason. Might be a setup on the Kadabra but I wont take that away from you, nice find.
Definitely staged. No one goes "there's probably not a save, oh there is one! Now let's just check the if it's the original battery". If it was more natural and not such an obvious setup, it'd be a bit more believable.
What would be the best official way to preserve this Alakazam (no savefile backup devices)? Did the Stadium Games have better saving method or they can run out of battery too?
Shiny Ditto in Gen 1 is only possible with the Mimic red Gyarados trick. It's similar to a glitch. Feel free to look it up, pretty sure your brother used that trick.
@@OliverMKP We did not have AR/GameShark. Only fancy thing we had was a Game Boy Memory Card. I watched him catch the Ditto and we traded it to his Silver version where we found it to be blue and had 61/59 HP. I can swear to you that it was legit. But this is the internet, and my promise will likely only fall on deaf ears. I know it's real and legit, and so does he. That's honestly all that matters to me. Take that as you will.
This is so cool! I just wonder one thing. Doesn't your japanese Crystal Savefile also run on a Battery? What if that runs dry? Then the Alakazam would still be lost in time, since you can't transfer it to Gen 3 and upwards
Yes, that is true! Luckily we have two options: 1) Backing up that crystal cartridge save file via back up tools 2) trading that Alakazam to Pokémon Stadium, because that game doesn't have a battery so it could live there forever I backed up that save :)
Imagine the og trainer who's probably a working professional with a family of his own. watching this video and remembering the good old Pokemon days when he was just a little kid in school
the fact this little guy sat there for 20 something years waiting for his day to shine (literally) and immediately evolved after being found proves this was meant to happen
My American blue battery still works. My old save file from when I was a kid is still there. Any ideas on how I could back this up to make sure it doesn’t die?
There are several ways. I personally use a Bennvenn Joey Junior V2 cartridge (from AUS), that can connect your Gen 1-3 cartridges to you pc to back up the save files. There is also a device called "GBOperator", which is probably the cheaper option if you live anywhere that's not Australia. You can even play your Gen 1-3 cartridges on PC with that thing.
If you're still looking to complete your Japanese cart collection, I could tell you the seller I got a set from. Not sure if saving the previous save file is as important to you or not, but the seller I got mine from replaced all the batteries before sale. I'd gotten a set of Red, Green, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal for something like $75 and all the batteries replaced. Just a thought. The games I got were in good condition, too (they're legit, as far as I'm able to tell, and I've delved pretty far into counterfeit carts). My old English/US Blue and Yellowx2 batteries still work. I wonder how many out there still work, like percentage-wise.
I gotta check my crystal version i caught a shiny raticate on it n haven’t checked it in about 15 years once I switched to the ds if the batter Is still good that would be sick
That's awesome!! If you didn't do it already, it might be worth to check out how to backup your save files so that file can be preserved forever! Or, if you don't have anything to back up your save, trade your favorite Pokemon from that file to Pokemon Stadium (2), because there is no battery that could run out. :)

My dad is an avid casual shiny hunter and this video brought a smile to both of our faces, youre excitement made us excited! keep it up!!!
This comment brought a smile to my face, thanks a lot and best of luck on the shiny hunts for you and your dad!!
Indeed
"Imagine we find a shiny, not gonna happen though" you were so adamant about that, so sure that wouldn't happen, and then funny spoon bender decided to prove you totally wrong, congratulations on the OLDEST shiny to still be alive
The spoon bender really did prove me wrong..😂
Thank you so much, was great to have you there when it happened!
You should now do one of those longest journeys (with help) videos. You know those videos where people transfer their pokemon from gen 1 or 2 to gen 3 with jerryrigs and stuff. Get that there shiny Alakazam to ruby/sapphire/emerald/fire red/ leaf green then transfer it up to gen 4 then 5 then 6 and so on
I definitely want to see this
This is actually such an amazing video! The fact that it’s a trade evolution Pokemon as well is a really amazing touch! Congratulations Oliver [:
Very glad to hear you enjoyed the video!! I'm so happy it was the Kadabra, definitely an amazing one from the checks we had! Thank you for the congrats!! :)
your reaction to this was amazing! i loved this and congrats on finding a prehistoric shiny! same i missed it by a few minutes lol
Super glad to hear you enjoyed it, thank you so much for the congrats Loch!!✨
While I want to believe the save goes back to 1997 it could honestly be one of many new game saves from then to now. Only way to know is to ask the seller. Assuming they are the original owner.
Just wow, This video is going to go down as one of the most historic shiny hunting videos of all time.
1:08 wouldnt the chance actually be 1/67,108,864? since the chance of a shiny is 8192 in HG SS?
Absolutely insane, couldn't have happened to a better content creator too. Congrats man!
I appreciate these words a lot!!
Several level 100 pokémon and a shiny kadabra from the game corner on a file with only 20 hours play time? You got caught lying lol
My very first shiny was a ditto in crystal that i found in the grass outside the daycare.
Someone else has probably said this but the gen 2 games have an internal clocks that keeps in game time so will run down as it’s constantly “ticking” gen 1 carts on use battery when the game is saved so the less you the game the longer the battery will last…
This still blows my mind. Huge congrats Oli!
btw the level 9 Clefairy could've been shiny too since gamecorner Clef in Red is level 8! Ofc its improbibe to get a two in one like that from the gamecorner but not impossible.
You're absolutely right, I'm so gonna check the Clefairy once I am back home from work!! Thank you so much!
@@OliverMKPdid you check it and the rest of the pc mons yet?
@@OliverMKP oh yeah fs dude! I can never forget Clefairy shiny hunting strats
@@OliverMKP Was the clefairy shiny?
1:06 hey, there are my double shiny starters!! Thanks for featuring me on this amazing video!
You're welcome, very cool you actually noticed this video! I saw your double shiny video many times over the past years, big congratulations to you for that amazing experience!✨
@@OliverMKP thanks!! Your video was actually suggested to me by the algorithm, because I watch so many shiny hunting videos myself! Congrats to you as well for an amazing find!
Have you backed up the save where the shiny alakazam is on?
I sure hope so!
What an incredible find, I am pretty new to the channel Oliver, but I am SO glad I am able to see you find one of the most incredible shinies I can think of in Pokemon Shiny Hunting Community history! Keep up the amazing content man!
Welcome to the channel!! I hope you'll enjoy your stay with us!
And thank you so much for those words, I appreciate it! :)
Does the save battery recharge with cartridge use?
It actually depletes as real time passes
Mein lieber (Sch)Olli! Was habe ich hier grade gesehen?!
If the rarest thing being destiny is true, then maybe shinx actually IS my curse. It's always shiny for me, every chance it gets. I have still been trying to leisurely get the shiny charm, but for shinx, it doesn't matter if i have it or not 😂
This vid was cool as hell, makes me wonder if anyone from my saves are shiny
This just makes me want to play retro games again. Great content and couldn't be happier for you!
Glad you enjoy the content, I appreciate the kind words!!😄
You are literally the person inspiring me to start with youtube soon as a german teen wanting to speak English in my videos❤
I wish you the best of luck with that!!
What kinda videos are ya making?
2:22 why is it a screen recording of the camera? Weird
I used a phone mirror software to capture my desk, I never really expected to find something crazy and just wanted to somehow real quick record the unboxing on stream haha!
That solution seemed good enough in that moment, obviously it's now visible in the vid but I guess it doesn't matter that much.
@@OliverMKP Oh okay, live mirroring. I kind of figured
how to fake OG shiny pokemon: replace the battery but print 97-11 on it before I replace it. Then make a video about it
You could also preserve it by connecting the save file to a cartridge of Pokémon Stadium.
Shiny hunting history right there! Congrats, man!
Thank you so much!!
This has to be the shiny find of a lifetime. So cool to see!
I'm pretty sure I won't be this lucky again, even if I tried to recreate it. Glad you enjoyed Pabu!!
Such an incredible story. Thank you for sharing. So glad this popped up in my recommendeds.
How is this game file from the 90s? My battery died and I had to replace it. Saved files get wiped when the battery dies. I am just a little confused.
Congratulations on an amazing find! This is pretty historic!! ✨
Thank you so much!! Definitely a memory to treasure forever!✨
Not just a Red version, but a JP Pocket Monsters Red version, which is even older! (US Red and Blue used JP Blue as its base)
Factor batteries are really rare: My Red and Yellow still hanging on.
My blue isn't though.
Sucks too cause big fear of losing my yellow save that has all pokemon
Buy a GB operator and back your saves up!
That person could have started a new game last year, so it could be a one year old shiny.
I really hope the Japanese player that bought the Abra from the Game Corner in the 90s is somehow made aware of this. Can you contact the seller you got the cartridge from and see if it’s that person? If we can get an interview with them we can get a better confirmation maybe on the date the shiny was obtained!
You could do this but at the end of the day it would just be their word. No hard proof one way or another.
I don't think most people would care in the slightest. I can't fathom this guys reaction to finding out a pokemon, when transferred to another generation, has a different colour palette.
@@MelodicTurtleMetal If they were a Pokémon fan in the 90s and still a Pokémon fan now they probably would care.
@@MelodicTurtleMetal Well they would know about shiny Pokémon and their rarity.
This is such a crazy find!! And a very fitting pokemon too. Congrats!!
Thank you so much!!
Oliver said a bad word! D:
All in all, congratulations on the rare find man, the odds of not only getting an "original" cart with a working battery but also a shiny Made it all worth it in the end.
One of the most amazing things I've EVER seen in my 27 years playing pokemon and watching poketubers. CONGRATS!!
Thank you so much, I am happy to hear!! May we continue to enjoy the franchise and hobby!!
What happens to it's special stat when it's transfered? because gen 2 already had it split to sp.att and sp.def right?
20:52 game time with several level 100s? Some of the pokemons on the game file seem to have come from a Game shark or is bugged into the game. Hitmonshan was level 100 with only 2 moves as well, which is strange for a leveled pokemon unless the owner took it to the move deleter for some reason. Might be a setup on the Kadabra but I wont take that away from you, nice find.
Definitely staged. No one goes "there's probably not a save, oh there is one! Now let's just check the if it's the original battery". If it was more natural and not such an obvious setup, it'd be a bit more believable.
I mean. The battery was from year 97, but the save file could be from last year. 😂
That's why I said "possibly". It could be from last year, 5 years ago or 26 years ago. But just the chance of it being that old makes it cool imo.😄
12:54 Ive done that since i picked up my first gameboy. "Pro gamer" lmfao
What would be the best official way to preserve this Alakazam (no savefile backup devices)?
Did the Stadium Games have better saving method or they can run out of battery too?
7:40 My brother has a shiny Ditto from his Blue game. Not sure where you got your shiny info from.
Luckily we have two options:
1) Backing up that crystal cartridge save file via back up tools
2) trading that Alakazam to Pokémon Stadium, because that game doesn't have a battery so it could live there forever
I backed up that save :)
do you have a savefile dumper
Here pls take this, so you can collect even more Pokémon from the non-existing pokecenter vending machine ;)
My very first shiny was an Abra in Crystal in the early 2000s. This is so cool!
This is incredible! Thank you so much for this amazing video=)
You are welcome, thanks for checking it out!! :)
@@OliverMKP Thank you! Just checked out GBOperator. Much appreciated.
Boi, that's so insane! Congrats and love for the rescue
The only thing throwing me off is that, the players name is Max. A western name.
You need to smuggle it all the way to Home! It deserves to live on!
How awesome since kadabra in tcg was taken out of print till this year or something
Do you have any of the hardware to get it to Pokemone home?
I gotta check my crystal version i caught a shiny raticate on it n haven’t checked it in about 15 years once I switched to the ds if the batter Is still good that would be sick
This actually might be my favorite shiny pokemon video in history. Unreal, dude
My Pokémon Blue still has the original battery and works great. From 1998. So crazy
That's awesome!! If you didn't do it already, it might be worth to check out how to backup your save files so that file can be preserved forever!
Or, if you don't have anything to back up your save, trade your favorite Pokemon from that file to Pokemon Stadium (2), because there is no battery that could run out. :)
@@OliverMKP I’m a serial resetter 🤣 So nothing too crazy on there. Might have to hook it up to my Crystal to see if any shinies are hiding though 🤔
Imagine if that normal Alakazam was shiny
