    I appreciate these comparisons as I cannot do them. Went to Pentax forum reviews for the 60-250 after watching your video. Not surprisingly the reviews were glowing. One aspect noted was the center of images from both lenses was very sharp but the 60-250 carried the sharpness to the edges. I am not very good at recognizing this. If you noted that, I missed it. As I am not in the business and price matters I will stick with the PLM. Yet, please stop saying Pentax underprices some of the lenses. they may be listening!

      Well, seeing as the 60-250 is the top tier glass it should be sharp at the edges. I really doubt Pentax listens to/watches my channel but you never know. I'll stop mentioning the low prices lol

    Went out and bought the 55-300 plm based partyly on your review and lee's. Had to buy it because I'm afraid they will raise the price! lol shhhhhhhh

    My zoom lenses from 2005 my Tamron 75-300 f4- 6.3 full frame lens with Apature ring as well as A mode. Doesn't get sharp until F-11, screw drive autofocus. Sigma 18-250 f3.5- 6.3 MACRO HSM my favorite hiking lens. Not weather sealed suffers from bad lens flare from any bright light source

    55-300 plm is good but not quite fantastic... Almost, but not quite on my K3 mk1 tripod manual f.8... I have sharper lenses with pixie dust, this lens almost does it though...
    I have a sigma apo dg macro 70-300 that is a little sharper centered and was half the price a decade ago, it does not focus as fast as the 55-300plm, but center part lens is tack sharp... PLM needs bright light to do its thing properly I think as a fast focusing weather resistant wonder.
    Good video thank you

    Thanks for the comparison Kobie, much appreciated, I am looking to get the 55 / 300 plm for my K1, what's your thoughts.

      As long you shoot in crop mode it'll be good. There's varying vignetting (sometimes strong) in FF mode since it's a crop lens.

      Just purchased a 55-300 will be using it on my K1 Mark 2

      Just keep in mind that it's a crop lens and does not cover the full frame circle for most of the focal range.

    Hit button by mistake great review the 55-300 PLM I use for wildlife mostly bird photography at the beach the Pentax K3-11 with more focus points gives me more keepers over the K70 shooting birds in flight. I like having option of the tilt screen on the K70. Both cameras take equally sharp pictures with the extra focus points and faster shutter speed on the K3-11 the main difference

    Great video for comparison of the handling especially. 60-250 looks like more lens to handle. Way to notice that it's not very sharp at f4 as well. If I were in the market for this range I'd go 55-300 with what you've told us so far. Once I hear that SDM focusing on the 60-250 I'll be even more convinced 😂

    I do not have 60-250, but I do use 55-300 PLM (bought it instead 60-50 as it was dirt cheap in comparison) and it is really a very nice lens. As I'm firm believer of deep FOV and shooting at f/8 or lower it does not bother me that PLM is darker. But the focus speed, size and lightness of this lens is fantastic. It would not be a big surprise if Pentax added * to the name.
    And they could rework most of older lenses with PLM, but then with incoming 16-50 PLM both lenses will cover pretty much whole spectrum of popular focal lengths. Would not mind getting Limited with PLM, but then it will most likely make them bigger, besides I think it will go against the idea standing behind Limited so I doubt it.

      Actually, the PLM design needs a very small lens for the focus motor so size actually shouldn't be big. Look at how small the rear element is on the 55-300 PLM (that's the focus lens group). It has to be light and small to work properly. I'm waiting for the 16-50 PLM as well 🙂

    I have a question for you. If you could purchase either lens at the same price, which would you chose?

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh boy. I'll have to really think about this one... That's a really good question.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@duckfan7684 I would take the PLM. Just due to the fact that I do a large amount of birds in flight and want that extra AF capability and extra reach. And I'm a crop body shooter (for now). On the copy of the 60-250 I was loaned, it's really not sharp until about F/6.3 anyways so that negates the F/4 aperture. I have heard that generally, this is not the case and is more about the copy of the lens I'm using. But, I can only go by what I'm using. So, for me... PLM

    Hello Kobe
    It would be interesting recording audio without 2,4Ghz high frequency bombarding…..like a wired option.

      Fair enough. I have the equipment but for outdoors I'd rather wireless. I'll be doing more with indoor wired audio. Thanks for the comment and suggestion!

    So Pentax should surprise everyone and restart their non DA* lineup with the same team who developed the the PLM...

      Please no! I rather prefer to buy something cheaper, but great))) I'm happy to have PLM (thanks Kobie's channel for that!) and can confirm it takes sharp images even with wide opened aperture and f8-f11 are the best))

    I enjoy your videos, but this one you photographed so much dead stuff, that it's depressing. You walked past evergreen pine trees and I was like take pictures of that. All around you was necrosis because of the colder months and plants dying off. Its like when you find a living bug and you take a picture of it, its amazing, but then you find a dead bug and take a picture of that, and its colorless, drab, lifeless and just awful images. I never shoot necrotic subjects anymore.
