    In the last video I did an on location overview of the image quality, well, let's get into some details about that. This video showcases side by side detailed looks at the image quality of both lenses. According to feedback I received, the copy of the DA* 60-250 I was loaned doesn't seem to be performing as well as expected which is unfortunate. But even so, it still shows the strengths and weaknesses of the HD DA 55-300 PLM. And It IS a surprising result.

    Nice to meet you. Thanks for nice video.
    I like 55-300 plm too! It's sharpper than most of pentax lenses. 55-300 plm is compact and light weight. 55-300 plm and 28-105... It's a highly rated lens in JAPAN. From JAPAN.

    a test with DA 300mm and the 55-300 PLM would be super cool and with tele 1.4 XD, nice video tho~~

    It will be interesting to see how the PLM goes against the
    SMC Pentax-DA* 300mm F4 ED [IF] SDM

      That would be interesting, but unfortunately I don't have access to that lens 😔

      @@KobieMC DA*300 is sharper than the D FA 150-450, even when the DA*300 has a 1.4TC attached. Without a TC, the DA*300 is clearly sharper.

      Oh, I don't doubt it. It is a prime lens afterall. Generally primes are always sharper than a zoom lens.

    Dude, nice comparison. I have to say that I'm not too surprised. If I'm not mistaken, the PLM was released after the DA*. I'd imagine they're constantly improving their optics.
    An interesting video would be a three lens comparison. The 50-135, the 16-85, and the 18-135 (kit lens). That 18-135 is a decent lens. I shot with it for a long time. Great bargain. It also wouldn't shock me if the 16-85 performs better than the 50-135.
    These apsc lens reviews are helpful with K3iii on the horizon. I wouldn't even bother with star lenses on it. Maybe just get the 16-85 and PLM and you'd be set with a huge focal range at a relatively good price.

      I'm waiting to see how the 16-50 PLM is going to be. I've thought about the 16-85 but DA* 16-50 2.8 with PLM? Oh ya, I'm fine waiting for that one!

      @@KobieMC yeah, that new 11-18 looks pretty awesome so hopefully they continue that trend with the 16-50. I would also second others who mentioned interest in a 300* to PLM comparison. Would be interesting to see if the PLM can hang with that lens.

    Doing the same comparison at home - same lenses. Same results. For now I only compared at f4 for the DA* and the PLM is much better.... I think that, in general, considering also the very slow AF, the DA* is not worth. My opinion at least.

    Are you sure, that da*60-250 is properly focused when set to 60mm??? Looking at the picture in 3'34" I would say that the sharpness is locked on the jacket itself, not on the collar fur. Can you double check it please?

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I checked every which way possible. At F/4 everything is just soft. There doesn't even seem to be an actual focus point. It could be that maybe one of the elements is decentered. But either way, yes it does appear that it gets focus on the jacket, but even that is soft and doesn't really seem to be where focus is locked. Especially compared to the PLM.

      Yeah I agree with you. There's obvious back-focus there. Probably on different aparatures too but problems like that become less apparent as you close down the lens... plus it's a zoom so you can have back focus at 60 and front focus on 250 :) I recently came back to photography and almost all Pentax lenses I acquired have some problems with viewfinder focus and I have to micro adjust them for decent results... or just use liveview or manual for perfect results (on 2 different Pentax bodies so it's not just the camera I'm using). In one sentence: Pentax has great/best overall quality for the price but AF and QC more often than not - sucks :)
