Zak Snyder has made a bunch of misunderstood masterpieces. Seems these days as soon as critics see flash bang or bedazzling visuals they switch off and dismiss everything as "Bay-like", not bothering to look at how smart the films can be, or how masterfully crafted those "flash bang" action sequences are.
Man of Steel is my favourite superhero movie by far. I caught it last night and it blew me away. It is the perfect example how how to break the mould/template for creating superhero origin stories, by telling them like a comic. The pacing in the first act is brilliantly pieced together that doesn't dwell on minute details to get a "sense of who the character is". This is a truly heroic depiction of an international icon and idol. It's equally as emotionally powerful as it is physically.
What makes man of steel work is the characters and the commitment the actors put into their roles. The fact that we actually got a badass superman. Zack Snyder's direction. Nolan's story and Hans Zimmer's brilliant score! The movie has some minor problems here and there but overall, it's still fucking brilliant.
@Nathan Ligon, all I can say is THANK YOU. THANK YOU. & THANK YOU. You merely affirmed what soooooo many of us have been hoping for. I watched the early Donner movie (loved it as a kid) but always felt the character of Superman was never taken as seriously as he should. Lets face it the '78 movie was too much semi-comedy to have the levity deserving of such an iconic character. .
Wonderful review. As a huge Superman fan myself, I can't remember being more excited to see a film in theaters. I'm confident that it won't disappoint!
LOVED the review. Great idea of putting the trailer behind your voice, fantastic analysis. Don't mind those people who can't sit through 9 minutes, definitely subbed. GREAT.
Great review. Man of Steel brilliantly re-imagines one of my favourite heroes and the formula for telling an origin story. It feels like the best of Superman comics literally coming to life. Snyder's use of long shots gives a breathtaking spectacle that paces like a comic. And the ending was an incredible way to show the gravity of the situation and how it would affect our altruistic god among men. Zack Snyder has given life to the best of our heroes like no other.
I'm glade you liked the review. You are right that Warner had been wanting another Superman movie for a while, but they never got it right. They turned down many scripts and any ideas were sitting on the shelf. The studio was pretty down on their hopes for making a new Superman movie, but Nolan knew that they were wanting it and took the concept he and Goyer had come up with to Warner. It was green lit almost instantly. You know that is because they made billions of TDK trilogy. Everybody does.
You really connect with Clark and understand the pain he is trying to go through and fitting in and finding were he belongs in our world I give this movie and 10 out of 10 I loved this movie it's in a very close second to TDK and I believe it exceeds TDKR but then again it's my opinion you have to see for yourself and not to mention hans zimmer his score is PERFECT for this movie he really gives you that emotional feel
I do. You just got to stick around to the end. I am just talking about Nolan from the sense of getting this vision of Superman into production. The vision is all Snyder and I give him his due. I was very impressed with the style he chose here and glade he broke the mold.
Wow my friend GREAT REVIEW! You very much hit every point that needed to be made. I am so glad that you liked this as much as I did, because it is getting unjustly beat up I think. Loved Cavill, the suit, Zod, Amy Adams, & Zimmer's score is Amazing! This was one of my favorites of the year so far. Great work as always my friend! I hope that all is well with you and the family! We need to talk or Skype soon! All my best!
I agree. I am going to ad the word review. This was actually supposed to be set to Private and not be released until about 40 minutes ago along with written review at Red Carpet Crash, but apparently I didn't click it. I just got on here a little while ago and was completely surprised.
Great Review Loved it informative and got me absolutely primed again! as I count down the days going through ups and downs trying to stay busy until the movie releases!!!!
Thank u for that positive review I don't understand y so many critics are hating on this movie and going by rotten tomatoes rating..I think it was a great superman movie...
You did a open minded, unbiased great review! You made me realized more in each character but, after seeing the movie I loved it & it is a great Superman Movie!!!! All characters were excellent portray and the action was the best superman movie. It was something when Russell Crowe plays Jer-El, when Marlon Brando was impress one memorable one. I loved Hans Zimmer movie score music too!!!!
I'm hoping that this film will serve as a base for a DC cinematic universe. We need GL to get a good story as well as a justice league film. And judging from your review with the synder-nolan-zimmer combo we may just see the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Awesome review and your clips' quality are so good.... i hope you got the clip of faora and the soldier too in hq.. haha. can't wait for this movie! it's gonna be 4 long days! :(
Best origin story of all time one of the best superhero movies of all time best Superman movie of all time best Superman definitely a masterpiece those who don't think so misunderstand the film.
Like batman begins Zach Snyder takes one of the most iconic superheroes a grounds it to reality as if this is how things would go and people would react if there was a alien from another planet come to earth .and as for comparing to the original superman its kinda hard to say because this is a whole complete different take on superman it's something new and fresh that we haven't seen before and the emotional depth this movie has my god I never seen a superhero flick that made me cry 3 times
If you listen to the review you can tell that I am just referring to Nolan as a director like they do in the trailer. I never say he is the director of this film and I go into a lot of detail about Zack Snyder at the end of the review. Glade you liked the film either way.
great review. very professional and also you very well informed. glad to see that the movie is truly a proper interpretation and also a great new interpretation as well.
I know. If you stay through to the end of the review I speak of Zack Snyder glowingly. I am not talking about Nolan as the director of this film. I am speaking of him as the director of the Dark Knight trilogy and how he used that clout to get this film made.
Man of Steel was the greatest Hulk movie Ive ever seen. Just imagine Clark as a feckless Bruce Banner, and when he dons the suit, pretend he's turning green. BAM - best Hulk movie you will ever watch.
It appears you did not get all the way through my review. I thoroughly express how much awesome a choice Snyder was as director and how good he does here. I referred to Nolan at the beginning as the man who got this off the ground. Without Nolan this movie never would have been made. It was because of The Dark Knight Trilogy that this happened and what he (and Goyer) believed was the way to take the character. Everything beyond that point is Snyder, but even he was picked by Nolan.
Best review so far, but I disagree with u on one thing. They could have picked a better Lois Lane! Erica from "Smallville" is a way better Lois. @thtgame2407 your right the only reason I went seen this movie is because nolan & zack were directing it, after "Superman Returns" I didn't wanna see another live action Superman movie cuz that one sucked big time. Man of Steel was awesome! I'm going see it again tomorrow
I give Snyder his credit. I am talking about Nolan from the point of view of getting this film off the ground and giving him credit as a writer. I never call him the director of this film.
I feel that the first 20 min of the film are far better than the rest of it in every way. They tried too hard to pack to much into it and for all their achievements in the film that you point out, the plot holes and lack of logical relationship development hurt it so much more in my mind. Comic book characters exist in different, yet still strict worlds with laws, and those laws stay throughout. This movie ignores that at times, and in the end the story suffered for more action and explosions.
great review, I myself loved the movie and everything about it, but I just have one little knitpick... I don't understand that last flashback scene at the end of the film, showing a 9 or 10 year old CK wearing a piece of clothing as if it were a red cape. Young CK doesn't even know who he is yet. Who is he trying to imitate? maybe there are fictional superheroes that exist in CK's world? I guess.
Sorry you feel that way. You must not have gotten through the review. When I was talking about Nolan at the front I was talking about how he went to Warner Bros to get this thing made. I very thoroughly commend Zack Snyder for his fine work as the director near the end of the review.
The dark knight trilogy had nothing to do with this movie. warner bros had been plannign a reboot since superman returns. it was a matter of getting a writer. Nolan may have helped some but not enough to get the credit he is getting. MANY superman fans would agree,
honestly don't blame any actor. i think were the right to the job. I blame the mess of the story so many to take, but none of those lines were deep into. I believe the people will wait for a movie of Superman begins, not a superman begins/Dark knights. the hole movie could be two or even 3. Zod could be the last foe's movie not in this one....
he didn't say that Nolan directed it. he just referred to Nolan as a director which he is. Maybe you didn't watch the full vid. think and watch it full first before you talk.
You probably should mention that a) you've already seen the film and b) because of "a", it contains spoilers. Perhaps put "SPOILERS" @ the top of your description text or in the title of the video. Thank you, sir.
Snyder, first and foremost, should get most of the credit for MoS. But, you are uninformed if you think Nolan wasn't instrumental in getting this film made.
So wait how the fuck is Kick-Ass an inferior comic book franchise ? Superman has had great stories don't get me wrong, but Kick-Ass goes wayyy deeper and could even fall into the category of satire and social commentary. Superman has never even been close to that. That might change with BvS.
Superman was social commentary from day one. The first things he did was take on government officials who were orchestrating wars for their own gain, saving a woman from wrongful execution, and taking on an abuser; all things that were huge social problems when Superman was released. Now some of that has been lost on the merit that modern comic book writers, for some reason, believe that politics have no place in comics, which is absolutely false. But the last I remember, Superman was going into countries that had just gotten out of wars, and making sure kids didn't play with landmines, and that was maybe the 70s or 80s. Kick-Ass is not social commentary. Kick-Ass is barely satire because in an effort to satire one thing, it becomes a whole other thing, a hyperviolent, juvenile mess, something that is worthy of satire itself. Kick-Ass is the shallow, disgusting garbage that people make social commentary about. Kick-ass is more like adult party cartoon in comic book form while you're trying to pretend it's intelligent in any way.
This movie was a bore 70/100. I wanted super man fighting stopping the tornado with all the computer tricks could have made better story. Keven Costner please anyone would fit in that role it was not to cry over or breath taking. Lol still waiting for a true superman movie yet to come.
IM HEARING THIS MOVIE IS A HUGE LET DOWN..JUST ANOTHER LET DOWN...GOD I HOPE NOT...I WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE....SOMEONE TELL ME THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE PLEASE.....MAN OF STEEL.....
Christopher Nolan was barely involved in this project, so why was Nolan's name mentioned every 30 seconds? Snyder is a poor director and so is his wife. Snyder can make good movies in his sleep? Are bloody joking? His whole back catalogue is awful.
It was total crap! I am once again shocked by what Americans find interesting and entertaining. I am a very skeptical American- this was blatant USA military propaganda. I would have walked out if my parents weren't there. They reminded me the military has been doing this in Hollywood for a while now.
I give Snyder his credit. I am talking about Nolan from the point of view of getting this film off the ground and giving him credit as a writer. I never call him the director of this film.

Finally a proper reviewer! Sums up the movie perfectly!

Wow my friend GREAT REVIEW! You very much hit every point that needed to be made. I am so glad that you liked this as much as I did, because it is getting unjustly beat up I think. Loved Cavill, the suit, Zod, Amy Adams, & Zimmer's score is Amazing!

The Syncopy universe just keeps getting bigger and better.
Great Review Loved it informative and got me absolutely primed again! as I count down the days going through ups and downs trying to stay busy until the movie releases!!!!

Wonderful articulate review- Do you have it published as a written piece anywhere?
Best origin story of all time one of the best superhero movies of all time best Superman movie of all time best Superman definitely a masterpiece those who don't think so misunderstand the film.

Man of Steel, what an emotional ride. 5 stars!!!
I know. If you stay through to the end of the review I speak of Zack Snyder glowingly. I am not talking about Nolan as the director of this film. I am speaking of him as the director of the Dark Knight trilogy and how he used that clout to get this film made.
Great review man! Definetly going to see it
Glade you liked it. I like it as well. It is emotionally manipulative. Just like this movie. If it gets you excited then it does its job.
Thanks for the good news..now I must see it..cant wait...
AGREED!
The best most thought full review.
The the whole battle for Krypton in the first act can be its own film...it was that intriguing to me. Russell Crowe really leaves a mark in this film.
Love the review, man!
Well done!! Superb review, very informative & enjoyable!!
Man of Steel was the greatest Hulk movie Ive ever seen. Just imagine Clark as a feckless Bruce Banner, and when he dons the suit, pretend he's turning green. BAM - best Hulk movie you will ever watch.

No worries. I enjoyed the review none the less.
i know where i will be friday night!!!! watching man of steel return to big screen!
Totally Agreed.
Hay Nathan Ligon will you review my Lego The Justice League movie once I upload it?
Best review so far, but I disagree with u on one thing. They could have picked a better Lois Lane! Me too. I hope people give zack more credits than he received so far from this movie. Nolan has influence, but, come on.
Sorry you feel that way. You must not have gotten through the review. When I was talking about Nolan at the front I was talking about how he went to Warner Bros to get this thing made. I very thoroughly commend Zack Snyder for his fine work as the director near the end of the review.
Awesome review
i agree with u abt zack snyder as the best choice for director. considering 300 and watchmen. amazing shits he made. hans zimmer is god of music.
GREAT REVIEW

I came here to answer the question asked in the title.
Yes.
Goodbye.
MOS is great and epic!

but there wasn't no spoilers.
great rewiew btw. dont wanna sound like just a hater.
Sorry but you seem to have never seen the Dark Knight.
I thought Zack S. Directored this yet all I hear is Chris Nolan this and Dark Knight that. BS IMO give the director his due
Christopher Nolan was producer not director...
of course this movie is a masterpiece
I realized that, I first typed this from my phone so excuse me grammar Nazi. lol
So wait . . . . Is it a masterpiece?
lol he did correct himself later on
