Surprised you don't have many subscribers honestly because your program is very cool and useful. I just bought the program last night and the fact I can do this makes me so happy.
Bought this software for streaming and it was a dream to use, forgot about it for a while once I stopped streaming but recently began using it again for discord to see messages from friends of mine who prefer not to speak. Saves me from pulling up my phone or using the desktop streaming on SteamVR. 110% worth every cent, fantastically optimised and works so well.
Thank you for creating this! As it's intended to be used in VR, I'd love the ability to adjust the curvature of the virtual screens. Add to that the feature of custom aspect ratios so we can have ultra-ultra wide virtual monitors. Make both of these options adjustable to the extreme and you can start introducing something similar to a 180 or even 360 experience. Perfect for VR and a lot of creative mix and matching of what would normally be two separate apps/worlds - now able to blend together into new possibilities.
Hi there! You can adjust the curvature in the Window Settings menu. OVR Toolkit does not allow for virtual monitors, if your real monitor is ultra-wide it will be the same aspect ratio in VR. :)
@@VoxelLoop Thanks :) Hmm. What if I used something like a headless display emulator? Could I trick OVR Toolkit into thinking I have say a 32:9 monitor (perhaps even wider?)
I watched this and went "I don't know shit about programming VR or video games." I say that as someone who DOES write programs. Very cool tool you've made here, my dude. Very cool.
Lovely tutorial, great tips and tricks. DIdn't answer my problem but I found the discord link in the description and one of your wonderful mods helped me right away!
If you intend to use OVR Toolkit with a mouse and keyboard for productivity use then look out for the 'Best Effort' option in the upcoming update! This will reduce OVR Toolkit's input delay when using a mouse/keyboard. :) (With the mouse/keyboard menus in OVR Toolkit this can be accessed by pressing right arrow on the frame rate when it's already at 60)
Was skeptical at first. But absolutely love this. Leaving a good review as soon as I figure out how to do that 😂 (very very new to steam kinda new to VR but not really)
This video convinced me to buy it. I have no regrets. Its a fabulous utility. My suggestion would be to include a cable tangle indicator so I know which way to turn to unwind. Many thanks for your work.
With the latest release this may will be possible by the new custom apps (plugins) that should start appearing in the Workshop. I'll look into if I can create one for that, but otherwise I'd suggest using 'Turnsignal', it's free on Steam. :)
.....dude. I have been investing in Augmented Reality (AR) for 2 years and this is where the world is heading. This is the beta stage of the film Ready Player One. If you havent seen that film, watch it immediately then come back to this video. The writing is on the wall here folks..5-10 years this is a Phenomenal long term hold even if you dont understand it...the kids do and this is where the world is quickly moving. AR is going to present incredible opportunities such as virtually sitting courtside at an NBA game, or seeing a concert digitally front row. This is next level shit..
Just a headsup about the frame rate and performance rumor. Windows is and has always been built to save performance when applications are either in the background or not actively posting any movement from their form. This simply means, whenever you see something MOVING, it will calculate and thus utilize your GPU. Other than that, it is contraproductive to use frame limiters for that reason. Leave the stuff fluent, max FPS cap, and enjoy it.
Thank for a good tutorial and a very impressive bit of software. It make flying VFR with FS2020 on VATSIM, Teamspeak, PDF charts practical. Done a quick test with just on app and didn’t see any frame rate hit.
awesome tool, showed to my by german youtuber @voodooDE VR i cant thank you enough for its amazing capabilities! my gaming laptop is kinda old (6700hq+980m) but i'll buy a fairly high end pc over the next year and looking forward to using and abusing you toolkit! would love more showcasing videos :D
For people that are perfectionists like me, I prefer one and done, please make default window settings presets, and/or a way to move it like on a grid with buttons instead of only free style movement for precision. I find setting up the windows the bane of my existence, but once I have them setup I'm good, just takes forever and is frustrating
How to get rid of the instruction video window when first using this? I just have a plus and minus sign which makes the video bigger ro smaller. No way to close it. I'm using a HP Reverb 2 in Stream VR.
Thank you @Curtis English ! This tutorial missed me ! 3 questions : 1- Can't you consult a reduced page on windows while remaining reduced? basically we have to open it? 2-Can we make a twitch chat page OPAQUE to display only the text part of the chat? 3-I have VIVE controllers and the trendy windows have changed size or changed places while "I play without the windows that I created with OVR" how can we lock them?
Hi there! 1. I'm not sure what you mean by the that, can you re-word it? 2. You can't set specific parts of a window to be transparent, however, an integrated Twitch chat will be added 'soon' which supports showing only the text with no background! 3. Be sure to use the 'Pin window' option in Window Settings! This way your windows will be visible when edit mode is closed, so you can't move the windows. Otherwise, use the lock icon in the Window List to lock windows in place. :)
How do you get rid of the triangle button in the bottom left of every source that allows you to scroll up and refresh? I'm trying to add my stream alerts and it's distracting having that triangle in the middle of the screen
i've been messing around doing whatsapp video calls to friends/family from within blade and sorcery using the built in "spectator cam" so they can see my character 3rd person and we can hear eachother, but what i've been missing is the video of them, and now i can have that! :D
Is there a way to make a screen "stay" where you put it in 3d space? Like i want to put a virtual screen up, on the wall ina vr game, and i want to walk around in the game and the screen stay there. It seems like the screen is always following me. Which I can see how thats normally useful. But not really for my purposes
Hi, I recently started to use OVR Toolkit but I don't know how to get the macros in the wrist watch like the mute button and all, I have a Oculus Quest 2, idk if it change anything
The problem i been having is when i go into games like VRchat i can no longer access the windows or the app and i even tried restarting the app to see if it will work and it dont, is there something i coudl be doing wrong?
I use a speech to text input for my balaboka, which allows me to communicate without really talking. I know there's two inputs for the keyboard speech recognition, but how do I use the Google chrome one? The one that's more accurate and stuff?? It says I need to visit the ovrt wiki, but when I search it up, there's nothing. It doesn't even have anything related to OVRT I'm mainly just wanting to know how I can enable it, because it asks me for credentials, which I don't know how to do Plus the default is annoying and super inaccurate
Bought it for stream options it seems promising and awesome to use it for no stream as well. i had issues before needing to exit the game in order to use discord and etc. with that program i will not need to do that.
Question: When attaching a window to your wrist, can you add more than one window? For example say I wanted to use a soundboard and have Discord connected to the same wrist so I could look at both in the same place. Side by side of course.
Do you plan on making it so the windows don't overlap everything? I love the tool, great for messing around in games and it's generally great for what I use it for, but the overlap causes some limitations. Perhaps if there was an option to switch between a total overlap for people still wanting to prioritize their twitch chat or whatever they use it for, but being able to remove the overlap would help bring the windows into the game of choice without interfering with vision.
Hi there! This isn't possible I'm afraid, SteamVR Overlays always display on top of game geometry, they don't know what the game looks like at all and I'm not able to access the information. :)
Does this software still need to be run on a Windows administrative account or can it be run from a local windows account? I only run my computer from a local account.
It would be amazing if you allowed for realistic keyboard models that we manually place in our space to match where our physical keyboard is. Hand tracking or not that would help type if we don't have a quest yet.
It's not really possible to have a 3D model keyboard due to some SteamVR limitations, but someone could create a realistic looking 2D one in Unity to use as a Custom Keyboard in OVR Toolkit. :)
I made the mistake of buying OVRdrop about 6mo ago. The entire time I thought I had this OVR Toolkit and it looks SOOOOOO much easier. I got Drop working barely how I would like it, more barely tolerable but the setup was far from tolerable. Guess next month I need to get toolkit 😭
use "Display VR View". On the steamvr dashboard thing (on your monitor) click the 3 lines in the top left of the dashboard box. Then, in the middle of "Recenter" and "Display Performance Graph", you'll find "Display VR View".
I have it launched on steam, and it's telling me put on my headset to use it, but nothing happens within my headset. how do i even launch it within my headset? I've tried both grips, and every button basically.
Hi there! What headset are you using? Ensure both Oculus Dashboard and SteamVR Dashboard are closed, at that point you 'should' be able to see the overlay on your left wrist showing the time and date as an indicator that it's running! Please join our Discord for faster help. :) discord.gg/cfR72Bg
I'm not sure I'm afraid! It's extremely likely the Oculus Store version doesn't ship with SteamVR support I'm afraid! You could test this by launching the game with the '-vrmode openvr' launch parameter and seeing if that runs through SteamVR. It'll show on the little SteamVR status window as 'Now Playing: Beat Saber' if it's working correctly!
@@ghostxtempzz115 Not titles running through Oculus Runtime I'm afraid! Oculus doesn't allow third-parties to create overlays, only themselves! This is why games must run through SteamVR. :) We have a wiki page to workaround the issue with most Steam titles, but a lot of ones on the Oculus Store have no OpenVR support at all, it's always better to purchase through Steam when possible! wiki.ovrtoolkit.co.uk/index.php?title=Oculus
@@ghostxtempzz115 Don't believe there should be a delay, however, you can expect a performance decrease depending on your hardware, on newer GPUs (2000/3000 series from Nvidia) it shouldn't be an issue. That's also noted on the OVR Toolkit store page under the 'Before you buy' section. :) This is because it'll be rendering like so: Game > SteamVR compositor > Oculus compositor > Headset Whereas for literally any other none-Oculus headset it'll be: Game > SteamVR compositor > Headset. (Half the rendering, in theory - Oculus headsets also don't support some SteamVR features such as motion smoothing, which can cause some stuttering under high GPU loads - I suggest trying some games running through OpenVR/SteamVR before buying!)
The one problem Im having right now is even when Im not in edit mode, when Im using my VR controllers, it will grab the window while Im playing which makes reading chat infuriating, and has been a cause of death a couple times in my favorite FPS game
I have an issue. When I’m starting my OVR - he just say “Put on your headset to use OVR” even when i in headset now, how to fix it? Can you make a video?
Join us on Discord and post this in our #support channel so I can get log files from you and try to figure out the cause. :) discord.gg/KFGxc3e Typically, the issue is one of the following: - You're using an Oculus headset and your game isn't running through SteamVR. - You have multiple GPUs and the wrong GPU is the default in Windows. - You have the SteamVR or Oculus Dashboard toggled on so it's removing the overlays.
@Curtis English If one launches this unity based software inside other unity based from software will they impact each other? I’m trying to use it in Kodon (VR sculpting) and it seems to have broken functions of both.
Remember OVR Toolkit needs to launch as admin to function correctly! If possible, make that other application launch OVRToolkit-Launcher.exe, not OVR Toolkit.exe directly. :)
Purchased this software, was ager to try it out. I love what it does and how it works but for some reason It drops my frames to a very low point, lags my game to the point where I cant play or enjoy what I'm doing. Am I doing something wrong? I looked and read just about everything but I cant find the help I need. I have a good PC ( GeforceRTX3070). Can anyone help or recommend a solution? Thanks
This is an excellent idea (a direct competitor to Oculus Dash and Virtual Desktop as a "VR OS" or productivity tool) and it could be a must-have for every SteamVR users. But honestly, it lacks several quality of life features to be top notch. First, *performance is not there. The resolution is bad.* I use an Oculus Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop, SteamVR resolution set to 2500x2500 pixels per eye, and it's just too blurry. Meanwhile, the window displayed through Virtual Desktop is crystal clear. Also, the app is heavy on the GPU despite being so blurry. I'm open to advice, but I tried every setting I could find and didn't manage to get a satisfying result. There's definitely room for improvement. Then, *you could use the controllers buttons a bit more, they're really underused.* For example, with Oculus Dash, I can close a window just by pressing the grip (to "grab" the window) and pressing B. I can also open a new "specific window" (a window for Spotify, for example) by just grabbing the app window (with the trigger) and pressing the grip. You should do something similar. Hell, just copy-paste Oculus Dash controls, lol. The presets are an EXCELLENT IDEA :) . I just wish it would open the apps related to the windows. For example, I have a window for Groove Music. If I open a preset but Groove isn't open, Toolkit just tells me it can't find the window. *Maybe force the apps open?* I don't mind, really, xD. When we open a new window, that window appears in an unusable position and we always have to move it right away. *Maybe change the default position?* On the Oculus Quest browser, when I open a new screen, it appears next to the first one, so I don't have to do anything. Finally, the fact that we must wait a second after grabbing a window to move it is really annoying, *it kills the flow of the app.* Honestly, if you could solve those few issues, the app would be PERFECT! This concept is why love VR so much: although I love VR games too, it's the idea of having multiple virtual screens in front of me that seduces my nerd self. Make it as efficient as possible, and it becomes the best workstation of all time! EDIT: I just remembered, the French translation is a bit wrong sometimes :) . You used the word "proche" for "close". "Proche" means "close" as in "next to each other". The _verb_ "Close" is actually "Fermer" in French.
Hi there! Overlay resolution is managed entirely by SteamVR and I've been asking them to add an option for it for a long time. Basically when you start SteamVR it runs a GPU performance test, this always scores really low on Oculus headsets as you have lots of overhead from the Oculus software running. Resulting in lower resolution overlays, you can however edit this value in the steamvr.vrsettings config file. Feel free to join us on Discord and I can show you how to do that. :) The issue with using more buttons is that Vive doesn't have any more buttons. Just grip and trigger, touchpad usually starts to break on those controllers so I avoid using the bindings for it for anything essential. Same goes for Index, touchpad usually breaks or is just uncomfortable to use. I could always add optional bindings of course! For window reloading, I can add that for sure. OVR Toolkit already attempts to relaunch applications if you create a shortcut or start programs from the 'Known Apps' section of the select window page. And lastly, that message to hold grip only appears if you're picking up a window from far away. A lot of users sit with edit mode open and it's insanely frustrating to accidentally move something, on the Index, you accidentally press grip by just holding the controller. This feature has saved many people from ruining their window layouts. Again, could add an option for it easily. :) Join us on Discord if you'd like to beta test some of these changes. Currently OVR Toolkit is undergoing a bit of a UX overhaul so these would be perfect changes to include in the current beta branch! Edit: I'll see if I can contact the French translator for you. Let me know if you join the Discord and I can try to put you in touch with them. (Just @Curtis#1149 somewhere)
@@VoxelLoop Thanks for answering! The overlay resolution is already set to the "max" (2700x2700 per eye), the screens are still blurry compared to Virtual Desktop. I'm sure you can find some tricks to make it clearer (I think VD uses mip-mapping, so does Oculus for their desktop app). Damn, I didn't know the touchpads were so fragile, it's the first time I hear it. Although I did hear some horror stories about the Valve Index, now that I think about it. But an option is all I ask. It can (no, it _will)_ make the user experience smoother. I understand why you put that delay, it definitely saves the layouts. I have gotten used to it, so it's not a big deal, but if possible, I'd like the option to turn it off too x) . But hey, it's still a great job! It should be SteamVR default layout, that's for sure.
@@Dante02d12 Note that on Oculus headsets you can use the Joystick forward/backwards to move a window away/closer, and left/right to resize a window. (Whilst holding the window) Just on the Index this is unused by default due to touchpad issues, and on the Vive it's enabled by default but at least personally, the Vive Touchpad is not fun to use either. For the visual clarity issue, I don't think I explained it properly sorry! The resolution you set in Steam is independent of overlay scaling resolution. You cannot set the overlay resolution through the settings UI, it is entirely automated by SteamVR based on your GPU performance. I reported this to them here but have yet to get a response from the OpenVR developers, only the developers of other overlay applications: github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr/issues/1476 You can set this value manually through the 'steamvr.vrsettings' config file, please feel free to join our Discord for more info on that as it's rather awkward to explain how to do this and requires you to make a settings file for SteamVR read-only! For the delay on picking up windows, this can be disabled or shortened through an OVR Toolkit config file. Again, may be easier to join our Discord for that! In a nutshell: 1. Paste this into the Start menu's search box: %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Curtis English\OVR Toolkit\ 2. Open the folder. 3. Open 'config.json' in a text editor. 4. Set 'HidingDistanceCheck' to 0, ensure you keep the comma at the end of the line! Hope that helps! Feel free to discuss further in our Discord!
@@VoxelLoop Sorry, I wasn't clear either about the resolution x): I did change the value in that "steamvr.vrsettings" file . For my tests I made sure the render target value was set to 1.5, which allows me to have a great resolution. And yet, the Toolkit overlay is still a little blurry compared to Virtual Desktop. But I'll stop bothering you here x) . I'll check out the Discord and see what I can do. Thank you for the trick about the windows delay!
@@Dante02d12 OVR Toolkit does downscale overlays a bit to improve performance in games, though if your screen resolution is higher than 1080p this usually isn't noticeable. (Not noticeable at 1440p or 2160p, at least of what I can tell) Try disabling the 'Automatic performance adjustments' option on the OVR Toolkit window outside of VR. Restart the application afterwards. :)
Ive added a window for twitch chat but my right hand wont control the edit window and is instead stuck on the moving around on the chat window. I cant get back to edit window settings. I can see it but no user input on it. Going to restart app and try again.
Hi there, you sure the window isn't blocking the cursor from reaching the Edit Mode overlay? Try moving your chat somewhere else maybe! Join our Discord for faster replies. :) discord.gg/KFGxc3e
Hi there! Yes, you can do this. Just note your games must be running through SteamVR! See our wiki or the 'How to make OVR Toolkit appear in games' video on here for more info on that, it's an Oculus-specific issue.
Hi there! Do you mean your mouse cursor from the physical mouse? Or the one from pointing at the windows in VR with the VR controllers? Join our Discord for faster replies!
Is it possible to present hidden/minimized (on desktop) windows? I have a single monitor and can't cover up gameplay with a chat window while I stream.
Is this app capable of creating multiple stationary monitors? I would like to be able to create at least 3 stationary virtual monitors even more would be great. At home I have 3 widescreen curved monitors. I have yet to find a VR app capable of doing the same. Remote Desktop allows me to switch between my monitors one at a time, hosted on my pc. But I can't just create 3 virtual monitors from scratch. I would love an app which allows me to create at least 3 virtual monitors all visible simultaneously each showing 3 different web sites. This would allow me to take my work on the road as easily as packing my VR headset. No more need for a laptop. If the app also allowed a pass through option which would pass through a section near the bottom of the view so I could see my real keyboard and mouse, that would be even better. Can this app do this? Or does anyone know of an app which can do this?
I'm wondering how your tool would work with a Day Trading tool such as Ninja Trader 8. Can it be used to create multiple charts link them together and use same as one might do with multiple physical monitors and a physical mouse? I'd really like to be able to get up out of the chair to do my job and am looking at your tool, as well as something like the index as a way to go full "Tony Stark" with my trading desk. Can your tool be used to manipulate buttons on a virtual desk space window same as one might do with a mouse click drag etc? wheel scrolling or even physical dragging or scrubbing back and forth? Can your tool be used for example with a much more commonly available desktop program such as photo shop or adobe illustrator? Does it let a user of either of those programs essentially feel as though they are an artist physically standing in a studio space manipulating their artwork in front of them using the various tools available in either or both of those programs? if it CAN??? I'm 100% sold.
All I get is a black bios type screen saying press any key to continue with installation. Nothing changes in SteamVR, please provide pre-installation instructions.
Hi there! I believe you're the person I've been speaking to on Discord about this, we'll get it resolved there. Let me know if that isn't you I've been speaking with. :)
Does someone know how i can fix black screen netflix from the overlay ? I got subtitles and sound but no images. I tried using chrome and the desktop app.
Hi there! Disable hardware acceleration in Chrome. This is an anti-piracy measure they put in place as OVR Toolkit looks like a screen recorder to other applications. :)
I'm thinking about buying this but i've got a question... It looks like OVR is displaying in Steam Home. Is that correct? I have a Windows MR headset so is there anyway to display the OVR inside Windows Cliff House, or does it always open in Steam Home?
Hi there! OVR Toolkit uses OpenVR to display overlays, this means it can only display over SteamVR games such as SteamVR home or anything you purchase through Steam. It likely can't display over WMR home I'm afraid. :)
I am looking to use in XPLANE 11.50B9, specifically to be able to display my Navigraph program that shows aviation charts, maps, etc. In addition, I fly on a network called VATSIM which uses a desktop client. I would also like to display the client. Do you see any issues with this and would I be able to display both plus a browser at the same time?
OVR Toolkit should be able to capture those programs fine, you can capture each individual window you have open on your desktop if you wanted. It's been a long time since I've been on VATSIM (I used to be in a VA and used P3D v4 some time back!) - I'm not familiar with the specific software used anymore but if you have issues don't hesitate to join our Discord and get help with it! :) discord.gg/cfR72Bg
You can, but note that you need to set SteamVR as the OpenXR runtime! FS2020 performs a bit poorly when ran through SteamVR unfortunately, would highly suggest trying this out first! ovrtoolkit.co.uk/docs/#/Troubleshooting?id=ovr-toolkit-does-not-appear-in-an-openxr-game-flight-simulator-2020
I'm not sure how these games run I'm afraid, but, if they use OpenXR you coauld probably set SteamVR as the OpenXR runtime and this should work? wiki.ovrtoolkit.co.uk/#/Troubleshooting?id=ovr-toolkit-does-not-appear-in-an-openxr-game-flight-simulator-2020
You can! It's a bit of a weird workaround though. Install SteamVR and ReVIVE. Launch SteamVR and launch your Oculus games through ReVIVE within SteamVR. Do know, though, that you won't get any Oculus achievements if you use this method, but if you're trying to stream it works wonders.
OVR Toolkit can only overlay games running through SteamVR, per the store page. :) See the Oculus page of our wiki for how to run Beat Saber on Steam through SteamVR on an Oculus headset: ovrtoolkit.co.uk/docs/#/Oculus?id=beat-saber
So long as Virtual Desktop is running through SteamVR, you'll be able to display this over it! You can check this by seeing if it's possible to open the SteamVR dashboard with it open. :)
@@VoxelLoop I actually use the Oculus version of Virtual Desktop, patched to stream games using Sidequest. That said, I can access Steam VR as normal while using my Quest so I might have to give this a go.
@@KR7PT Ohhh right, I thought you meant Virtual Desktop as in the application on Steam! So long as you can access the SteamVR Dashboard, you should be able to see OVR Toolkit too. :)
@@VoxelLoop just bought, installed and I'm honestly loving it so far, awesome job! Is there a way though to have the saved profiles automatically open the apps that should be in each positionn when I'm in VR? If I have Restream Chat tethered to my wrist and I close everything down, then come back to it in VR the windows are gone and I need to reopen them all individually. Small annoyance but nothing major. Also I may have encountered a bug in not being able to interact with a window that's been cropped. I can't for the life of me get the cursor to show or be responsive.
@@KR7PT The windows should load in the same location as they were previously! Locations only save every 2 minutes though to avoid hitches from save file saving. THIS SOFTWARE IS AMAZING!!! I had to scream this out as I wanted everyone to hear me.
My eye's seen how loud it was. ^^
Just bought this tool now, this is great stuff! Definitely leaving a positive review on Steam!
@@brettcameratraveler In theory! So long as the GPU is rendering that display, OVR Toolkit can display it.

I just bought this, it looks so cool! Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you so much just bought it this is gonna work great for my stream!
Leave the stuff fluent, max FPS cap, and enjoy it.
dude, thank you so much for making this. it was very helpful

For people that are perfectionists like me, I prefer one and done, please make default window settings presets, and/or a way to move it like on a grid with buttons instead of only free style movement for precision. I find setting up the windows the bane of my existence, but once I have them setup I'm good, just takes forever and is frustrating

Thank you @Curtis English ! This tutorial missed me ! 3 questions :
1- Can't you consult a reduced page on windows while remaining reduced? basically we have to open it?
this is so intuitively made wow

So I got used to the easy use, but when I start my elite dangerous, my screen disappears.....😢 why?
Why won't my screen just stay up no matter what?
Just curious; how is this better than Steam's built in display thing they have? It does all the same things but better besides the wrist overlay
It doesn't even have anything related to OVRT
I'm mainly just wanting to know how I can enable it, because it asks me for credentials, which I don't know how to do
Plus the default is annoying and super inaccurate

We can use the toolkit with the Quest 2, right? If we use the Link to play steam games and have a window on our hands?
Bought it for stream options it seems promising and awesome to use it for no stream as well. i had issues before needing to exit the game in order to use discord and etc. with that program i will not need to do that.
Question: When attaching a window to your wrist, can you add more than one window? For example say I wanted to use a soundboard and have Discord connected to the same wrist so I could look at both in the same place. Side by side of course.
You're more than welcome to have enough windows on your hand to block your entire view! No limitations. :)
@@VoxelLoop You have made me a believer, if I've never been one so far. Consider me another customer for such a well designed application!!
Can I set them up in the sky? Like leave them there and pull them down as I want them?
Does this software still need to be run on a Windows administrative account or can it be run from a local windows account? I only run my computer from a local account.
can I use this with standalone VR or is it only through steam VR?
thank you for making this!!!
Can i use this app together with opxr and open composite?
so this avoids the issues of drm you run into with bigscreen right?
It would be amazing if you allowed for realistic keyboard models that we manually place in our space to match where our physical keyboard is. Hand tracking or not that would help type if we don't have a quest yet.
It's not really possible to have a 3D model keyboard due to some SteamVR limitations, but someone could create a realistic looking 2D one in Unity to use as a Custom Keyboard in OVR Toolkit. :)
Will this work with oculus? Ghosts of Tabor will only work correctly with Oculus it stutters with SteamVR
Does this work with any headset? Oculus? Vive? Etc?
I love OVR and I’ve been using it for a few months now but I ran into a problem where OVR doesn’t appear in recordings. Do you know how to fix that?
use "Display VR View". On the steamvr dashboard thing (on your monitor) click the 3 lines in the top left of the dashboard box. Then, in the middle of "Recenter" and "Display Performance Graph", you'll find "Display VR View".
I have a question how do u attach a voice changer to ur vr and other people can hear it?
I have it launched on steam, and it's telling me put on my headset to use it, but nothing happens within my headset. how do i even launch it within my headset? I've tried both grips, and every button basically.
Hi there! What headset are you using? Ensure both Oculus Dashboard and SteamVR Dashboard are closed, at that point you 'should' be able to see the overlay on your left wrist showing the time and date as an indicator that it's running!

If i add the oculus version of beat saber to my steam library via the 'Add non-steam game' option, will i be able to use OVR Toolkit?
I'm not sure I'm afraid! It's extremely likely the Oculus Store version doesn't ship with SteamVR support I'm afraid!
You could test this by launching the game with the '-vrmode openvr' launch parameter and seeing if that runs through SteamVR. It'll show on the little SteamVR status window as 'Now Playing: Beat Saber' if it's working correctly!
@@VoxelLoop I'm guess you will say no but can you use OVR with oculus games at all?
@@ghostxtempzz115 Not titles running through Oculus Runtime I'm afraid! Oculus doesn't allow third-parties to create overlays, only themselves! This is why games must run through SteamVR. :)
We have a wiki page to workaround the issue with most Steam titles, but a lot of ones on the Oculus Store have no OpenVR support at all, it's always better to purchase through Steam when possible!

@@VoxelLoop I saw somewhere that Steam VR running through oculus has a delay and performance issues. Didnt know if that was true or not?
@@ghostxtempzz115 Don't believe there should be a delay, however, you can expect a performance decrease depending on your hardware, on newer GPUs (2000/3000 series from Nvidia) it shouldn't be an issue. That's also noted on the OVR Toolkit store page under the 'Before you buy' section. :)
This is because it'll be rendering like so:
Game > SteamVR compositor > Oculus compositor > Headset
Whereas for literally any other none-Oculus headset it'll be:
Game > SteamVR compositor > Headset.

Typically, the issue is one of the following:
- You're using an Oculus headset and your game isn't running through SteamVR.
- You have multiple GPUs and the wrong GPU is the default in Windows.
- You have the SteamVR or Oculus Dashboard toggled on so it's removing the overlays.
is it possible to put it outside your playspace (so that it doesnt follow me when i move in game with my controller?)
I'm afraid it's not possible to know your location in games, only the location of devices relative to your play space. 🙂
is there a way to change the orientation of the windows to portrait mode?
Did the start for steam index change? double tapping both "A"s doesn't seem to work.
It should be the same! Try restarting SteamVR, sometimes it loses bindings. :)
Finally, the fact that we must wait a second after grabbing a window to move it is really annoying, *it kills the flow of the app.*
Honestly, if you could solve those few issues, the app would be PERFECT!
The issue with using more buttons is that Vive doesn't have any more buttons.
Join us on Discord if you'd like to beta test some of these changes.

Thanks for answering!
(Whilst holding the window)
Just on the Index this is unused by default due to touchpad issues, and on the Vive it's enabled by default but at least personally, the Vive Touchpad is not fun to use either.
For the visual clarity issue, I don't think I explained it properly sorry! The resolution you set in Steam is independent of overlay scaling resolution. You cannot set the overlay resolution through the settings UI, it is entirely automated by SteamVR based on your GPU performance. I reported this to them here but have yet to get a response from the OpenVR developers, only the developers of other overlay applications:
github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr/issues/1476
You can set this value manually through the 'steamvr.vrsettings' config file, please feel free to join our Discord for more info on that as it's rather awkward to explain how to do this and requires you to make a settings file for SteamVR read-only!
For the delay on picking up windows, this can be disabled or shortened through an OVR Toolkit config file. Again, may be easier to join our Discord for that!
In a nutshell:
1. Paste this into the Start menu's search box: %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Curtis English\OVR Toolkit\
(Not noticeable at 1440p or 2160p, at least of what I can tell)

I'm wondering how your tool would work with a Day Trading tool such as Ninja Trader 8. Can it be used to create multiple charts link them together and use same as one might do with multiple physical monitors and a physical mouse? Can your tool be used to manipulate buttons on a virtual desk space window same as one might do with a mouse click drag etc? wheel scrolling or even physical dragging or scrubbing back and forth?
Can your tool be used for example with a much more commonly available desktop program such as photo shop or adobe illustrator? Does it let a user of either of those programs essentially feel as though they are an artist physically standing in a studio space manipulating their artwork in front of them using the various tools available in either or both of those programs? if it CAN???
