    I left one cult where I blindly consumed animal meat and dairy. Now that my eyes are opened I have become a more compassionate person. Although I have been a bit preachy, but it is only because I am passionate and care.

      George Orwell There is a difference between eating to survive as the Bushman and Inuit did and having an abundance of critical free food available. We live in a society that is plagued by global warming, disease, animal cruelty, and many other issues that is driven by animal agriculture and the standard western diet. There is a lot of evidence to show the way humans are eating in western culture that it is bad for their health and for the earth. The Inuit have a very low life expectancy and upon research they had very high rates of heart disease from all the animal products they consumed. Just because we have done something for a long time does not mean it is right. Society changes and morality evolves over time. I have seen enough evidence from The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, or pcrm.org, to show that not only can we eat a plant based diet but humans actually thrive on a plant based diet. The world is changing many European Countries are changing their dietary advise and moving towards a whole foods plant based diet. If we switched to a whole food plant based diet not only is it better for the animals, it is better for our health and it is better for our planet. I do not expect to change your mind, but I hope maybe you do some research on your own and come to you own conclusion based on the latest non industry funded research. Peace be with you.

      George Orwell Again I think you should do your own research. When I began learning about health and nutrition all evidence pointed towards a whole foods plant based diet. That is why many athletes are making that change and many doctors are making the change as well. There is a lot of evidence and research that helped me come to an information decision. Being Vegan is just a bonus for me 😊

    I recently got a job at a local vegan bakery, and majority of the employees are vegan. I have never in my entire life met more compassionate, sweet, understanding, kind, and generous people in my entire five year journey with veganism. This is how i know veganism is not a cult; everyone is living their truth and morality through their lifestyle. I always think of this quote and compare it to vegans i meet, "happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." --gandhi.

There aren't many vegans here at all and we only have one exclusive vegan restaurant. I have officially been vegan for a year now and a lot of it is thanks to Nikki and Nisha's videos! In a weird way I feel a sense of community with you girls and on TH-cam since I do not have it here. I think people started saying that veganism is a cult in a way of invalidating your believes, when they see you happy they want to be like you, but since they can’t be because they love meat so much they find a way of hating everything you do and say and that’s stupid. Just try it out, if you don’t like then leave. Don’t start saying stupid thing. When I first went vegan I told a friend and till this day he says stupid comments about meat and I hate it so much that I stud up for myself and made him stop. Veganism is about being companionate not some stupid thing like a cult

    .
    “Enlightened and compassionate” are not how any vegan has ever represented themselves to me in the context of being vegan, post-veganism. EVERY time I share my experience with malnourishment via my extremely high metabolism and how I ended up in the hospital I get nothing but belittling disbelief. “Compassion” is nonexistent in my experience. 🤷🏻‍♂️ If I tell someone that I tried and simply cannot get by on a plant based protein they laugh. They laugh when I say, “I literally can’t survive that way,” they mock me. I have NEVER had a vegan just agree to disagree….ever. That’s the way religions brainwash people too. This is why people think it’s a cult. Because it’s “with us, or against us.” There is no middle ground with most vegans.
    I’m glad you guys think the way you do, but all it takes is a few bad apples.
    When you use “vegan” to define who you are; you couch your identity in your choice to be vegan, and hold other people accountable for your own beliefs, and judge others based upon your beliefs, you are operating within the same confines as a religious zealot.
    I love how you guys and everyone in this comment section want to pretend the vast majority of vegans are not militant in the vast majority of social media comment sections & don’t try to use violent means by which to push their propaganda via protest.
    “You may get some criticism for not being vegan “ is a GROSS understatement. Be realistic. “Evil,” “murder,” “animal abuser” are all TYPICAL vegan rhetoric. I’m glad you guys are excepting, but you’re not the representative majority.
    Edit: everyone just wants to find meaning in life. For religious people and people in “social justice” movements that means other people have to be wrong for them to be right, so they “other” people. There needs to be an “evil” to prop themselves up against. Just how the world works. Plenty of movements operate within the same framework as religion without being an official “religion.” Janes, Buhddists and plenty of other religions do not have a deity to directly worship. Cults are built around ideals, not an individual, unless you’re talking about the cult of personality

    • @Emp158
      @Emp158 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that sometimes there are legitimate criticisms about some ex-vegans. But if you literally cannot survive without animal products, you need to put yourself first. Many social justice movements end up being very cult-like due to human mob mentality.

    People who say that veganism is a cult or a religion always seemed silly to me, even when I wasn't vegan lol
    Also, wanted to point something out:
    its actually not truth, that there are different "types" of vegans.
    Veganism is a philosophy that states that people need to respect life of non-human animals and their personal rights. All of those "vegan for health" and "vegan for environment"-there's no such a thing. Vegan for health is not vegan-it's plant based, those people still may ride horses, still may support non-human animal breeding, still may feed cats and dogs non-vegan pet food, still may wear silk; vegan for environment is not a thing either(those people usually point out that they're not big fans of animal rights, and viganism is only about that), environment is a big part of veganism as it's real natural habitat of a lot of non-human beings, so you can't be vegan JUST for the environment.

    • @cdr72916
      @cdr72916 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ThatPlantBasedWitch I get what you're saying and am all for it except for the cats on vegan diets part. Dogs are omnivores like we are and can certainly thrive on vegan diets, but as a vegan who is also a veterinary nurse, I have to say that cats are obligate carnivores. We cant make every animal on the planet vegan. Some animals can't thrive on plant-based diets like we can. Taurine deficiencies from vegan cat food diets are very serious and lead to death if not corrected.

    • @tspicks4360
      @tspicks4360 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that one can be vegan for the well being of animals and have that very strongly reinforced by the environmental and health benefits of consuming plant products and not animals. And, in the sense that animal agriculture is a leading driver of habitat destruction, one can be "vegan for the environment". Also, many people start out "vegan" for health reasons (like me) and from there are led to realize the ethical aspects of things as well - it can be a door into real veganism. So personally I don't disparage people from using the word vegan in health and environmental contexts, even though the word's full meaning goes beyond those things. But yeah, "vegan for health" is more accurately termed "plant based for health". Either way, it saves a whole lot of animal suffering and death, so a huge step in the right direction.

    • @alexc632
      @alexc632 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I was going to point that out too. I have a cat, and I cannot bring my self to feed him a plant based diet seeing as there is a lack of evidence obligate carnivores can be fed this way. That being said the leading brand of cat food where I
      am is only 30% meat/animal products and the resf is plants and synthetic vitamins. Hmm.

    • @alexc632
      @alexc632 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, I am vegan for ethics but I also eat a plant based diet for environmental reasons :)

    • @alexc632
      @alexc632 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But for me tackling environmental issues has always been for human and animal rights issues surrounding it. I don’t see the environment as protecting our floating rock in space but helping all people and animals and life on this planet.

    I love your channel. Sometimes I stumble because being vegan and trying to provide food for my family of six gets rough sometimes. They are not vegan. Sometimes it seems that it would be easier to just save money and eat what they are eating. Your Chanel helps me to not give up.
    I became vegan for the animals but then I joined vegan communities...the people made me not really want to be associated with the word at all. Some love animals but seem to not care about humans. Some have been hateful about vaccines or abortions. It seems like the vegans that are doing it for health are so much more loving. But. Technically (they aren’t vegan) according to the rules. (That’s what I have been told).
    Anyway keep being kind. It really does make being a new vegan less stressful.

    • @NikkiVegan
      @NikkiVegan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Krystal Dixon I know how you feel! It can be so easy to get caught up in all of the noise that a few zealous vegans create within the community but the majority of vegans are just regular people, who have families, and jobs, and just want to eat well, be healthy, and not hurt animals. It really can be so simple and in my experience, it’s such a peaceful way to live ☺️ Try not to be overwhelmed by anyone’s rules, it’s all about knowing why you went vegan in the first place and living that intention out everyday in a way that brings you joy and reduces pain and suffering. If you need recipes ideas, I have a bunch on my channel and all of the girls on the show have awesome Instagram and TH-cam accounts with lots of vegan inspo 💚 Hope we can help keep you motivated and happy with your choice to be vegan! I'm almost to vegan for a whole year but I noticed a lot of vegans are nuts they go Bonkers when they find out that I still wear my leather Doc Martens. First of all I got those before I went vegan. And I also have a Winter Park a good for - 50 degrees Celsius made with down now I replaced it with a synthetic insulated jacket but I still own it because here in Canada it can get as low as 35 to 40 degrees C and I've never had a synthetic jacket that can go to those temperatures. And another way I put it is the animals already suffered the animals already been tortured and it's had its feathers turn off so why throw it out its life we've been for nothing I guess I don't know any other way saying it but from the time I've decided to go vegan I've never purchased any animal products. But the great thing about how veganism is be coming into the mainstream it's easier and easier now to find vegan products.

I don't feel excluded, singled out or separated from anyone else. It does feel different, but not in a cult way. But I do understand that feeling that you might not be 'vegan enough' and I have been called out on decisions I've made that weren't vegan friendly. I guess I understand why other people would look at it that way, but it's a misperception that I hope will one day be corrected.

    If you can attach the suffix ism to a word it's a good sign that it's a cult

    It's so silly! We're just normal people with normal families and lives! Cool video, guys! I love the "mindfulness" that Hannah was talking about, that makes perfect sense!

    Need some encouragement. I have not had any animal meat since Thursday. People are always trying to get me to eat egg whites or lean meat. They mean well .

      Look up nutritionfacts.org they have videos on the negative health effects of those, Bite Size Vegan has a good video on the egg industry, so does Erin Janus (both on youtube)
