It’s so interesting how, without necessarily realising, people have internalised a whole host of arguments against veganism without ever taking the time to actually substantiate them. Veganism is one of those issues which everyone has a set of beliefs around, yet so few people actually scrutinise their arguments or think about them deeply. Do you think Geoff will make changes?

Why is it that the use of "it happens with animals, it's ok for humans" argument gets used, depending on the argument it's called out as a bad argument. When the tables are flipped, it's a valid point. I. E. The point made here just because "animals do it doesn't mean we should" (paraphrasing here) but if you try to argue when being gay isn't ok the "animal kingdom" gets brought up to try and say see it happens there so it's natural.
Pick a lane is what I am saying here.

I'm vegan. But I felt like Ed was using his arguments to get Geoff to convert. It takes more than a convincing argument to get someone to transition from animal products to plant base. It is a process that takes time and self reflection and a level of self awareness. At the end I felt a Jehova's witness vibe in how Ed kept goading. I thought it sufficient that Ed presented his pro vegan arguments and just l leave Geoff with issues to think about. But then, in the conclusion, when the self promotion kicked in, with Ed's "resources", which I'm sure will include his books, made me cringe.

The intense health/pleasure benefits mean meat will be on the menu if possible. Maybe in the future we will clone it directly instead of raising animals, as if it was a plant of some sort. We do that for skin grafts already I think? In any case, even if it was really really bad for you (which it isn´t) the fact that it´s so intensely pleasurable makes it unthinkable to let go of it. It is FAR from being the most indulgent tradition we will defend (with violence if necessary). Compassion for animals plays on the scale, but for most people it plays very very little. My mom loooooves animals with a burning passion, but won´t give up meat, not in a million years. I would chose another cause to live your life around, honestly. Also, vegetarianism is effeminate/lame/really gay.

    It's a very wholesome meal
And the price is a steal
So I really 'wanna' keep you
    All in the loop
    (Insert absolutely enthralling, steady drumbeat)
First fry up some onion in a Sunflower oil
    See it fizzle-crackle as it's
    Brung to the boil
    Once the onion be see-through
Then you turn off the hob
This is gonna be a real good delicious one
    Prob
(Reprisal of the absolutely enthralling, steady drumbeat)
Add the carrot and the parsnip
    And potato too
Root for them like they're roots
    ''Cause' this is our crew
    Add black pepper
    The next step, er?
    And that's right
    Mixed herbs
    Double up the quantities
    That's our proverb. Sss 😂!
    Then we 'gonna' into this
    More flavour knock
    We gonna brew tri-ple strength
    Low-salt
    Vegetable stock
Dump it all in with the onion
    Thirty minutes on the clock
This is a soup that no one's gonna mock
(Some guitar chords, accompanied by our old friend, the drumbeat)
    Serve with crusty bread
    And a ve-gan spread
And the flavour that you savour
    You 'ain't' been mislead
But don't drop out the side order
    Too any degree
    A full-bodied, rich leaved
    Hot pot of tea
(Some guitar chords, but try to make them less boilerplate this time. Slow the drumbeat)
    Maybe then
    You'll all need
    Some good long naps
    But don't forget the fire-grown
    Ginger snaps
    Procrastinate
    About cleaning pan and plate
    We doing that
At a later hour or date perhaps.
(Short silence followed by the punctuation of the drumbeat)
    I showed you vegans
    Sumptuous Bridish Table Soup
    This comment's for the algorithm
    So you're in the loop
    And I'll add this remark
    Before you're too brisk
    Try this recipe
    At your own risk.

Even free range organic chicken farming has proven to be linked to river erosion. The demand for meat is perhaps the most ecologically damaging factor. Excessive growth of corn to feed cows, cows shouldn’t be eating corn to such an extent, leads to mono farming which takes over our landscapes and impacts the soil and our general environment to such an extent it will turn European grasslands into deserts, should we continue.

Melanie Joy encourages people to be 'as vegan as they can be'. While the traditional definition of veganism refers to 'practicability', it could be argued that there are different 'levels' of veganism, depending on effort. An organic vegan, for example, could be considered more vegan than someone who puts little or no effort into this option. What do you think?

I will never understand how plants have feelings but fish don’t
Edit: come on y’all ur smarter than this..
When we get injured, our pain receptors release neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters then transmit a signal to the thalamus (part of the brain). The thalamus then sends that signal to other areas of the brain to be processed. Once the brain has received and interpreted this signal, the brain sends a “personalized pain signal” (simplest way to describe it) back to the nerves-It is *only now* that you will feel pain.
*You’re brain is what creates the sensation of pain.* Everything else simply gives your brain information so that your brain can decide when, where, and how intense you should feel the pain.
Saying plants can feel pain is like saying plants can have kidney stones. You need a brain to feel pain, and you need kidneys to have kidney stones.
Not to mention that they also need to be sentient in order to *experience* pain. There is absolutely no reason to believe plants are any more sentient than my skin is. And honestly sentience is what really matters, the ability to feel pain is just an added reason why hurting animals is double fxcked up.

That’s not really their argument; if plants have feelings then vegans are hypocrites. Never mind that mammals are infinitely closer in their experience to that of humans, and can feel orders of magnitude more pain compared to plants, no matter how you look at it. As long as vegans are wrong, meat eaters are morally justified to do whatever the hell they want in their own eyes.

I think he deserves a lot of credit for the way that he assimilated the arguments and reached a conclusion. I doubt that he possesses the moral fortitude at this time of his life to actually be vegan as this means going against his family and peer group who presumably all eat animals and always will. But he has the potential because, like me, he is so appalled at the way animals are treated by the billion and you simply cannot buy any animal products in the grocery stores without knowing that you are funding and tacitly supporting that treatment.
Giving up animal products is actually surprisingly easy when you remind yourself why you are doing it. The only problem to overcome is those social occasions and our meat eating culture. But it is slowly becoming easier to be vegan even in a backwards conservative (with a small c) State in Australia where I live.

I think Geoff seemed like a very intelligent and nice guy. Much more educated than I was before going vegan in certain questions raised here. He had some arguments that needed to be debated. But he listened to Eds counter arguments and seemed to take what Ed said seriously. We shouldn’t call his arguments ”dumb” as I see some people write here. Remember like 95% of all not-yet-pro-vegans come equipped with similar arguments. It’s not because they’re dumb, it’s because they are taught to believe these things since childhood as well as through constant indoctrination campaigns from the animal-industry. Before having the great fortune of stumbeling upon a legend like Ed who challenges your unquestioned beliefs and can help you connect the dots, how is a non-vegan supposed to find the right way? It needs to be prompted. It won’t happen automatically. Please, let’s all help keep the vegan community nice and welcoming, so that people will feel compelled to join and be willing to associate themselves with being ”vegan”. This is the way 🤓😊🖖😎🚀

I've been an imperfect vegan for years. As of mid-July, I've been absolutely on it. I've lost 15-20 pounds. My body has much lower body fat. I've never looked so lean and cut. My energy levels have been incredible. Everyone doesn't believe me when I tell them how old I am. I never have to worry about getting food poisoning from bad poultry. I'm not consuming growth hormones and antibiotics through my food. I'm sure my hormones are the most balanced they've ever been.

A lot of long term vegans I know look very young 😊
People say it to me also. My face gets washed in the shower and that is it. No creams, clensers foaming lotions etc etc. I don't use anything. 😂

If more folks called it like you do "an imperfect vegan" we'd have way less suffering. But because people are dogmatic, purist, and really not in it for the animals/environment, typical (eat and don't think) folks don't even give it a try or worse, hate on it ceaselessly. Gratitude.

    Hi internet, hi @ed.winters,
first off, i basically agree with all the arguments made by Ed and for now i would consider myself an opportunistic "carrion eater" if that makes sense. I dont support the exploitation of animals for food products, but i would eat leftovers. That being said, i have a long standing struggle with the following train of thoughts:
Our diet causes arguebly the most suffering to other beings, but there is a lot of other products we use and behaviour we exhibit which down the line causes massive suffering to other beings as well. One could indeed ask for example whether it would cause more harm to consume an animal product like honey or using the public transportation system to get to the grocercy store. While considering a couple of those comparisons i came along a decision which arguebly is the most impactful in terms of reducing suffering: having children. Even if i assume the best case scenario (my child would make choices to reduce suffering it causes) it would still be another human which at least needs to be sustained. I guess everyone has their own imagination of what the worst case would look like ...
In conclusion: would it not be morally imperative to not have children, if you can manage to do it? Of course there is the argument, that ones actions could prevent more harm, then the harm oneself causes - but i would argue that the likelihood of that statement to turn out to be true for a child is very low, if we took an unbiased look around. At the same time though it seems to be the only chance we have as a species.
I would love to hear your thoughts about this Ed ❤

The transition to a vegan world probably will be gradual…that said, as vegans, we want that transition to happen as quickly as possible …so let’s say Earthling Ed and other prominent vegans are on tv every day and the transition happens over months instead of years…sure, there will be a question of what do we do with all the animals in slaughterhouses…but I rather us be having that conversation then letting animals get slaughtered by the billions every year

Vegans have logic and ethics on our side…but maybe you’re right, perhaps the world doesn’t go vegan…if that’s the case, it’ll be because people will value the taste of an animal over that animal’s life and happiness…a non-vegan humanity will also be worsening the problems of new pandemics, climate change, and antibiotic resistance

@@vietnamd0820 just logic and ethics will never sway people. You have to do practical propaganda with a clear positive vision of the future, where there is no hunger and everyone is always satiated. The ethical argument will come along and will serve as a post-factum conclusion. By preaching moral superiority of veganism and compassion towards non-humans (which have been used by food industry for millennia and is mostly culturally acceptable) you will never appeal to other people, only to that minority that feels good by recognizing their moral stance. Open your eyes and realize that veganism is a political struggle and has to be treated by you vegans as such. Otherwise it will be only perceived as a religious cult

I love how non-judgemental and civil you approach debates. You are able to make people question their own actions/morals without making them feel like you're judging them. That approach has undoubtedly helped you convince people who other activists could not.

Yes, Mr. Edward “Winters” Gaunt’s understanding of metaethics is beyond reproach, which explains why he condones the MURDER of poor, innocent humans before they have the opportunity to even see the light of day. 👶
The fact that he repeatedly asserts that “humans are animals” shows what an abject hypocrite is that MURDEROUS sinner. 😩
Furthermore, it is debatable whether Ed is truly vegan in his outlook, since he recently stated on the national television programme, GBNews, that he believes we ought NOT ban animal agriculture!
“I’m not even saying that we should ban meat, dairy and eggs right now”.
Mr. Ed Gaunt, So-called “VEGAN” activist. 😐

I really appreciate the calm and candor of the arguments laid out here by Ed. I am not a vegan. I spent a year as a vegetarian and another year as a pescetarian before coming back to meat (unimportant, but context for my experience). I grew up on a small cattle ranch and have seen the capacity for cruelty in the industry, which led me to try out the alternative eating habits.
I personally have no moral objection with consuming other organisms for sustenance, but I am really intrigued by this channel and will continue to learn and educate myself on the subject. I just wanted to say this channel is very interesting and I hope you keep engaging the public and challenging societal standards to improve the world around us. Much love man!

Interesting that Ed didn't choose to state that plants aren't sentient. I've been down that rabbit hole too many times and you'll find plenty of dipshits who will argue plant sentience, so it's interesting to see Ed updated his kung fu to say plants are just less capable of suffering. I'll follow suit.
