So glad you did not take it out of the video. We all do that and it sure helps us all to know no matter how long your have been quilting or sewing you are bound to goof at times so it is also helpful to laugh at your self. 😀Love the colors AND YOUR WAY OF TEACHING. i AM A TEACHER. BEA
I truly enjoyed this video, first because I would like to answer the call and the challenge to do a log cabin, quilt as you go! I have had all of the fabrics for my project for at least 10 years, you know how it is, "I’ll get to it, someday" 🙏🙂 Sew, then came the heartfelt , everyday human factor, the funny part, "losing your pieces"!!! I broke out in a great big smile and chuckled with delight!! 😄☺️🥰 Thank you so much for sharing this, your guidance and knowledge is very much appreciated!!! GBY!!!
Lol, I taught my self to sew, which I’ve done a great job but I have done a lot of stupid things as well. And with me it’s been the cutting the material where I would make my mistakes. But your work is very beautiful.
I had a good laugh. I recently attached an unintended scrap to the back of a block. Thank you for sharing that bit! Color combinations overwhelm me too. Your choices look fabulous.
Now that’s my kind of mistake. I do that stuff all the time. We have to laugh to keep from crying! Thank you for showing your mistake. Great video! I can now make a log cabin quilt with your expert tutorial!
I LOVE your quilt. I’ve never made a QAYG QUILT but years ago when my now 54 year old son graduated from high school I made him a log cabin quilt. I used his favorite colors. Teal and beige. It was so pretty. I really appreciate your video.
I thought your mistake was going to be that you sewed two stuck together pieces down! You are funny. But I’m learning how to put together a quilt as you go from you and I’m learning good technique. Thank you.
I love your color choices, I too have problems picking complimentary colors for my quilts. It came out absolutely beautiful. This pattern is next on my list ❤❤❤
Thank you for the video. Enjoyed seeing where you found your missing strip. 😂. I thought I was the only one. Always wondered how you QAYG & then connect. Beautiful fabrics
Thanks for this helpful tutorial! I loved your blooper too! “Not ready for Missouri star…” That made me laugh!😂 I saw a tutorial once where Jenny’s fake fingernail flew off across the room. It was pretty cute and funny.
Missouri Star 😂 That little dog peeking behind you and laying on the bed is so sweet. I can't believe that you have an issue with color selection, every single thing you showed is beautiful and let me be honest with you, gray is my least favorite, last choice on earth color for anything, but I'd totally copy this quilt for myself, lol!!! I love that you go slowly and are so careful with everything. Tfs, Laura
Thank you for sharing this video. These colours are my favourite ones. I'm just a beginner and need to learn a lot of techniques. Have a ton od ideas to quilt. This video makes it much easier to quilt. Thank you so much. 💓
I really enjoyed watching you create this quilt. I understand what you are trying to convey and I believe that I can make this after watching you. I especially love the colors! Thank you for showing us the tiny mistake because surely I will do something like this too! Thank you.
Hi! I'm from the Philippines 🇵🇭. Quilting is not a popular or common craft among women in my country. So I have to be resourceful to learn the basics, the simple and easiest for me as a beginner. I'm glad I watched your video as TH-cam popped suggested tutorial videos as I was looking for quilt as you go. Because as beginner I find most of the whole finished quilts I see are intimidating sizes. Thank you so much! Salamat po. From Philippines.
You are so welcome. I have other easy quilt tutorials on my sewing playlist. I love making baby quilts for that very reason, they are easy to manage and not intimidating.
Love love love that you showed the piece you sewed through on the back, I did the same thing yesterday and found it while bragging about progress to my daughter and felt humbled real fast 😂. So relatable!!! But also, thank you for the whole thing. Working on something similar and seeing your work is helpful. X
as I'm very new to quilting I've watched so many tutorials for inspiration and guidance and your video has been one of the most relaxing and enjoyable to watch. You are humble enough to include some of your little mistakes which I'm sure helps all novice quilters confident enough to continue their quilting journey. Thank you so much, you are so very easy to watch, just a lovely video to watch.
Thank you so much for the kind words. What a wonderful lift you've given me today. This cancels out the negative comments and dislikes that I've gotten on this video. Thank you!!
Your color picking is fabulous! I’m not great at all in picking colors I struggle with it. But right now gray & teals are my favorite colors. You made me laugh when you couldn’t find those pieces of fabric and they were sewed on the back. I do that kind of thing all the time I tend to get way ahead of myself. Thanks for the video & telling it like it is.I learned a lot from this tutorial. Definitely going to try this.
I agree on the whole color selection dilemma! A cool trick that was shown to me was to use a ‘peep hole’ used for doors, Home Depot or any hardware place carries them. You then get all your different colored materials together, spread them out some, and stand above all the colors, looking through the ‘peep hole’ and chose colors that look best together. Remove some, add others, all while looking through the ‘peep hole’ and it just brings a really neat different view as opposed to the regular eye! Sounds weird, but try it, you’ll see what I mean! Good luck, worth a 6-7$ try!
I love how you’ve put these two colours together. They compliment each other so well and each just pops beautifully. I really appreciate how you’ve shown us how to quilt as you go.
@@keressabeverage2622 don't worry if other people don't like your color choices, if what you are making is for you, then it's right, if it's for someone else, use there favorite colors, and they will Love it.
How funny! I am so grateful to you for admitting/showing your mistake. I make these kinds of boo boos ALL the time and wonder how I can be so inept. I feel better knowing that even you make mistakes like this 🥰
I love how you show step by step and your choice of color fabrics. So many quilters that are attempting to teach skills do not show mistakes. It's refreshing to see that I'm not the only one that makes mistakes. We are human and nothing is perfect. Many try to be so perfect. Yes, I too love how Jenny Doan does her self binding method. I love your daughter's little dog. So cute! You're doing a great job. Thank you for showing this method for connecting shashing to connect backing and blocks together to make the quilt. I'm subscribed to your channel.
Hello Jeri from Scotland, flower thank you so much for your wonderful video. You were real and honest and do things that WE ALL do if we are honest with ourselves and others. You have the courage to put this video out there in the general view because you think that if it helps one person, then it is doing a good job and you are right, but it helps so many more people than you think and i thank you for that courage because you helped a lot of us. I love the colours of the quilt as teal is my son's favourite colour and i have never made a log cabin quilt before but having said that, i am only on my 2nd real size quilt. I have made 3 pram sized, 2 for my granddaughters dolly's pram and cot and 1 for my friends' grandson who wanted a dollys pram for christmas( it was made with the left over scraps of Toy Story that i made for my grandson). The colours move in like streams going over rocks and has a calming look to it. Have a great day flower from Norah, Scotland
Your quilt turned out so beautifully! This was a great video and tutorial, thanks for all of the little details and slow pace. I'm going to try quilting as I go!
I love this video. It is the first time I have seen you. It is so charming to hear you tease about doing a Jenny Doan tutorial. I love your calm manner and the speed you speak. I am 67 and started quilting last year. I have not tried quilt as you go yet.
The first quilt I made was a quilt as you go log cabin. The top colors were gray black white and red. The backing was diaper flannel. I found the pattern in a QAYG book. It was a Christmas present for my mother. I started it Thanksgiving weekend and finished it at 4:30 Christmas Eve morning and then we drove 6 hours to my mom's. She said it was too heavy and warm to use on her bed so she put it in the cedar chest. I inherited the cedar chest when she passed in 2014, but the chest is in storage. I'm afraid when I see the quilt again I'll be disappointed at the mistakes and quality of my work but it's the thought that counts, right? I still quilt, not as much as I'd like. I love the quilt you've made.
What a beautiful quilt!! The colors are perfect. I, too, get overwhelmed trying to chose colors for a quilt so I'm happy that I don,t feel alone as there are some very talented folks out there who have that ability to choose colors that I would think would't go together at all only to see the finished product is awesome! I also like the way you explain each step in an unhurried way that seems to keep me calm during the process! And your quilting companions, the Lab and your daughters pup, are very well behaved and I love seeing them. Thanks for a great tutorial!
Thank you for the kind words. Our sweet Lucy the Lab passed away last fall so I love that I have her memory on so many of my videos. She was 14.8 years old! She seemed to always find her way into the video shot whether I was sewing or cooking, so she had the heart of a movie star. Lol. And Patchy the Jack Russell mix just turned 10 last month. I have a bed for her set up in the sewing room and if she's at my house she always finds her way to the sewing room when I'm sewing.
I love the colors you chose for this log cabin quilt! You are so modest, we all make mistakes but you just overlook it, it's just a part of life! I love that the quilt is all done at once. You've done very well! Neat quilt!
Finally! Thank you for showing us step by step until the end on how to finish a "Sew as You Quilt"! I've been struggling for months. I don't care to send my quilt tops to have them finished. It would cost me approximately $400 to $500 per quilt (OMG) and I don't really have the machine to handle a Queen size "free form" quilt, but I am determined to make and complete my own. Lots of experimenting over the last few months. Thanks so much for your wonderful video. It's the best and most comprehensive on TH-cam. Wonderful!!
I love the quilt the colors go good together. Teal being my favorite. Did one sew as go and I will try your method looks easier. I thought the last I did was my last one and I see yours makes me want to try again. Thank you. Great job keep educating us.
it seems no matter how long we've been sewing, we will still make mistakes. I've been sewing for 60 years, and still make mistakes. some days the seam ripper is my best friend.
Thank you for your kind comment. That video took a lot of time to make and edit. I must’ve had 2 or 3 hrs of original video that I finally got down to 36 minutes. I wanted to make it all in one video because when I’ve done two part quilt videos before one part always gets more views and the other gets forgotten or can’t be found I guess. So it’s a long video.
Thank you for keeping all the bits in, including the mishap with the missing pieces. For a terrified beginner, who isn't brave enough to attempt her first quilt seeing the mistakes that can happen is reassuring. Your explanations for each step were so easy to understand, even for a total novice like me. I'd like to add that even without holding a camera & trying to stitch, my stitches are never as straight as yours! The colours you chose were beautiful!
Beautiful quilt. I make a lot of sew as you go string quilts, so this method is right up my alley! I love the fact that by the time the top is done it’s already quilted too since I don’t own a long-arm machine and getting a sewing center to quilt it for me is very expensive. Don’t worry about the mistakes, we all make them!
I am making a queen size quilt using teal and grey! I've been watching your video, over and over to learn all the techniques you have used! So helpful!
