    Hi Chris can’t say enough about this piece. It’s gorgeous. Is the neon gold an a pigment powder or paste and is an art tree product? I have never seen one so bright

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Margo. 🌺🌺🌺 The neon gold is a Prime Pigments powder called Hot Gold. It is part of a soap supplies pigment range from Ebay Australia. Its a wonderful egg yolk neon that I haven’t seen before so I am using it a lot at the moment. 😋

    Such perfect doming! Are there any tips or tricks to get doming that good? My resin pours over the side and it things out right on the edges. Thanks.

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of the results in this piece is because of the properties of the resin and the lack of heat added while I worked with it. I used a high viscosity resin so unless I overheat the resin it will only move slowly. I also let the main part settle before I back fill with the black so there is not a lot of wasted resin in the actual pour. The wastage or over run is because of the swiping rather than overflow. If you overheat the resin it will thin and run faster and further and then as it cools the surface tension will bring it back from the edges looking as though your coverage is too thin.

      @@crisscross104 Thank you so much for the reply. I am going to try a painting tonight, and will make sure to not heat the resin while painting. I live in a cold climate, so I assume i'll still need to have the resin warmed in a warm water bath still beforehand? Thanks!

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your resin still needs to be at the right temperature to start its chemical reaction. Normally around 75 degrees. When I talk about not adding to much heat I mean its more about additional heat with your torch or heat gun. If you have a digital thermometer and take readings as you go, you can see how quickly the temp rises.

    • @gumbyman1969
      @gumbyman1969 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@crisscross104 75 degrees F? About 24 degrees C, right?
      I understand what you're saying. I've been happy with the paintings I have been doing, but couldn't get the doming and sides looking decent. Hopefully the temperature issue is a big reason for that. thank you :)

    Hi Chris, I’m new to resin art and I’m so pleased to have found your channel. Can you tell me what the tool was that you used to check the temp of the resin and the board please? I’ve never seen that before. Your work is amazing, I love the dramatic effect of the black lacing. Best wishes, Liz

      Welcome Elizabeth. Its a digital thermometer. Its only cheap and so not the most accurate but its close enough for what we use. I have always loved black and really dark resin.... its so luxurious

    Hi Chris, I'm new to your channel & loved this piece. I'm in Australia & wondering how to get this pro marine resin I keep hearing great comments about. I don't think I can get it here 😟

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trish. There is a bit of an issue with getting it. You could buy from Amazon USA before the 1st of July but Amazon has geo blocked us because of the new GST regulations. And Promarine will not ship to Australia directly. The other option is to use a freight forwarder like Shopmate but you need to make sure that resin is not on their restricted freight list. Because the price is determined by weight it is quite a costly exercise. Heres hoping that ProMarine or Amazon will find a way to ship to us.

    I’m in love with what you did here, Lady. Do you think the lacing is due to your process or the brand of your resin. I’m intrigued.

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Judy. I think its a combo of things. The pigments fall through the pro marine resin in a particular way. The way I mixed the tonal colours from the same pigments but just different amounts of white give a different rate of fall. The temp of the resin is all the same and I added very little heat. And then I suppose the light touch of the swipe. The big key is to leave it alone and give the pigments a chance to fall.

    The reason I ask is that I use a lot of resin but not one that “causes “ lacing
    Thank you

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I don't know what it is about this resin but its perfect for lacing with pigment pastes..... but mica's sink so fast you end up with a blur of colours. Stick to pigment pastes with this one.
