    Chris thanks for your reply. I had to look up encaustic art :-) --- I've missed watching your videos, but I've been practicing a lot, and definitely feel like I am getting better with the resin. I hope you'll continue posting videos whether it is your new creative endeavors or of course my favorite --- resin.

      LOL. I will see what I can come up with. I am a bit klutzy with wax at the moment so when I get comfy I will do some new videos. Working with wax has actually given me some neat ideas for some new resin work so you never know. Great to hear you are feeling so much more confident with your resin work. The more you play without expectations the more you learn and can take advantage of any surprise results. 👍🏻

      Thanks so much Linda. Its early days but the ideas are evolving. I like the idea of incorporating structured abstract painting with resin layers. If I ever get the hang of actual brushwork. 😂

      I have been painting over resin pours for a while now using my inks and love the effect! Your abstract looks really good!!

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its interesting working with brushes. I love the fluidity of inks, spray paints and acrylic pours and the tight nature of stroke work is so frustrating. My work is quite simple at the moment and I am persisting 😂

    • @lindabartlett4517

      Well Chris, you are very talented so I don't think you will take long at all to master the brush. I am the opposite I have been painting and drawing with brushes, pallet knives etc for many years and have only started pouring and fluid art in the last 18mths and you have certainly helped me on my way during that time!

    I love the canvas that you covered up, can you do a video on how to accomplish that? My white always over takes the color and same with the black. I absolutely love the deviation of coloring. I would love how to accomplish that? Thank you so much for the videos and sharing your gift! Blessings from North Carolina, USA.

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a couple of videos that show a similar technique with black over neon. The one I covered was done with 4 shades of grey, black and white. I pooled them in stripes and then used a. Palette knife to spread them sideways. The spreading using the palette knife gives you the lacing grey over grey. Great effect.

      Thank you. I had a change of direction and moved to painting/ mixed media. I started resin demos at a time when it was new and experimental so it was fun and interesting ….. I do miss those early days when you had to figure things out and share new things. Its much different now that Resin products are prolific and you can buy ready made solutions. ☹ I like being different and spend my time working on texture and unusual painting techniques. So in short I am still making art and may at some point video and share ❤

    Love this!!!!! I have followed you from the very beginning and it was the micas with resin that inspired me to start. I wish to do a bottom background of flickering waves of flame. Can you give me some pointers as the best way to start? I don’t have epoxy pigments in neon but I have them in the acrylic or neon golden fluid or fast flow ( will check not sure). How should I lay the colours, vertical or horizontally?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Kim. I would lay or pour/squirt the paint horizontal and then either blow or swipe the flames in upward swooshes. If that makes sense. I like using tools like palette knives and other swiping tools or even the side of your hand. I suppose i am a lot more open these days to mixing it up with different materials so you could even use a bit of flame like shapes in modelling paste to give you a background texture to your paint.

    Beautiful lacing Chris & lovely colours. I noticed you didn’t sand the previous pour before you poured this one on top. Does the resin adhere just as well?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The previous coat was only done the day before so the new coat will adhere very well. If the pour is over a few days old I will sand to get the bonding.

    Chris have you put up any new resin paintings? I don’t seem to get notices like I do with some of the other artist. If so would you be willing to send a link. I hadn’t actually seen this one even though I know it’s an older one and I love how beautiful the colors blend. Thank you

      Barbara I haven't done any resin for a few months but have been keeping busy being creative, I decided to learn some new skills so I have been concentrating on painting with watercolours, inks and acrylics. Also i have just recently started learning encaustic art.

  • @lewisgreen5188
    @lewisgreen5188 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    thanks Chris.I have been painting over poured backgrounds also using perspective geometrics and design. we must be learning something, eh? For me, when using larger canvas, I need to reinforce the back with cardboard to keep from pooling. any thoughts?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thks Lewis. Using canvas for resin is not optimum if you want longevity in your artwork. Resin can tear a canvas or frame in time. I have a stack of canvases so while I am still developing the style I am ok with using. To stabilize these I use 4 coats of gesso on the front, primer on the back and I support the back like you with cardboard. I don’t mind a bit of pooling with the idea of using these as backgrounds.

    • @lewisgreen3589
      @lewisgreen3589 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do add more coats of gesso, but have not primed the backs. i will do that. I did see that you used MDF. primed, gessoed and???

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Priming the back just holds the canvas a bit tighter plus I don’t use a lot of heat in my resin pours. When I am using MDF I prime with house paint and sand between 2 coats. Its winter over here and very damp so the key is to keep the MDF as moisture free as possible. I normally prep a stack of the boards at least a week if not more before I use that way even if the paint is dry to the touch the entire board is stable. The weather plays a big part in my prep.

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just on the amount of heat I add to a resin pour. I use a heat gun that has a really low heat setting so I tend to think of it as a quasi hair dryer. If your heat gun doesn’t have multiple settings then using like I do will burn your resin.

    • @lewisgreen3589
      @lewisgreen3589 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have a gun with multiple settings. I use lowest and slowest air. I have a hair dryer also, as well as, a torch . weather is not an issue here. Arizona has been summer hot 44-45 for weeks. we're ready for fall.
