This is so true, when i saw the video a thought the same, it is really sad that just about 50% of the food in the video is Chilean. Not hating on our brothers dishes, but the video said chilean food haha
Because Chilean food sucks... You know it, why does Peruvian food outsell Chilean food in its own Country. LoL, Chilenos can't let it go, your country is not abundant like Peru is, accept it.
Kevin Pereira This is an unncessary, hostile comment. Actually, you will never find a Chilean saying our food is better; we love Peruvian food, there are hundreds of Peruvian restaurants in Chile that do really well, and no Chilean in their right mind would challenge this. The comments here are aimed at saying that it is a sad fact that we don’t really have a tradition for street food, like Peru, Brazil or Argentina. Our food doesn’t ‘suck’: it’s just mostly comfort, peasant dishes that are filling and tasty but not complex or very diverse, that’s all.

The meat stick: Peruvian probably, tequeños:colombian or Venezuelan, chicha: Venezuelan. They're mostly sold and bought by immigrants, and dont have a permit, that's why they dont want to appear on camera. Nice video.
There is not a massive street food culture in Chile. What street food there is, it is largely due to immigration from Peru and Venezuela (e.g, tequenos). Sandwiches now, that's another story! from Ron Jermyesque hotdogs to massive beefsteak sandwich of all sorts we cannot be beaten. Sea food, BBqs and wine are amazing too...

You should have gotten the italiano completo that comes with avocado! That’s the more traditional one. Once a week I make those at home and I also dislike seafood so as a Chilean my family pretty much disowned me for it.
@@DivertLiving completos are much older and traditional, they have sauerkraut and american sauce (onions with celery i think), that's what you ate. Italianos are much more actual though, even if they have been a thing for the past 15 years or so, and those are called italianos because of the italian flag, they have tomato, mayo and avocado.
Hi guys, I was watching your video (I'm from Chile) and just wanted to let you know that tequeños and chicha (the dessert) are not Chilean dishes! Please fix this in the caption. These are sold in Chile because of people from other latinamerican countries, but they're not Chilean. We do have an alcoholic drink called chicha, and many other typical dishes that you could've search for and try like cazuela, completos, churrascos, many other sandwiches, charquicán, carbonada, etc. And many drinks like terremoto o piscola. But, as other comments say, Chile is not known for its street food, I think it's actually "forbidden" (or kind of illegal) to sell street food I think because it doesn't meet the hygiene regulations (which doesn't mean is not delicious and nice but that's just the regulations), and most of our typical dishes are eaten at home or local eateries. Also a very popular and yummy street food is sopaipillas, specially sopaipillas "pasadas". Just thought I'd give you some feedback :) Very glad you could travel around Chile specially in this period with all the social situation, and that you liked it :) thanks for showing a little bit of my country and hope Chilean people treated you well.
That is not Chilean chicha. In the central zone of Chile it is made chicha with grapes and in the south of Chile it is made chicha with apples. I don't know what you bought on the street, but it has to be some specialty from Venezuela or Colombia that immigrants from those countries have taken to Santiago.
Saludos.
Tequeño and Chicha are from Venezuela. I recommend to eat Humitas, chacarero, Caldillo de congrio, Chorrillana, Sopalpilla, Curanto and so on... I don't recommend to eat street food on Plaza de Armas and near from Cali canto Station are unhealthy. Also Plaza de Armas is a center place where many immigrants get there (Peruvians, Bolivians, Ecuadorians, Venezuelans, Haitians, Colombians) you can see cultural diversity there. I recommend visit Cajon del Maipo is around 1 hour from Santiago. Have a great trip
Hey Jim and Tah. The food looked amazingly delicious to me. I am a Latino food lover and grew up 40 miles from Tijuana Mexico. I have been up and down Baja California and down the west coast of Mexico and back up through central Mexico. Just seeing the foods from south America looks sooo good. I love the fact that you try the countries main dishes, this gives me Ideas in the kitchen. I think I mentioned cooking is a hobby and I cook many different foods from curry dishes, Thai, Vietnamese, Philippine, Latino, and so on. So thanks for these new places I have not seen and the food you were munching on. Thanks you two for another cool video.
Bad thing is that you guys almost didn’t see chilean people or ate chilean food, everyone I saw on the video were immigrants, I mean I’m chilean and it doesn’t really represent what Chile is like to me.. good video tho!!
I’m from Santiago de Chile and all that food is what I miss everyday, I live in Switzerland since very long, whenever I go visit my family I feast on all that delicious food u’ve shown. Btw it was so funny when the woman told u “condensed milk” and u wrote “condom man” I had a big laugh 🤣🤣🤣 Thanx for showing so respectfully and accurately our food culture. Keep enjoying and stay healthy 💙
Almost none of that food is chilean... also, I've been living my whole life in downtown just a couple blocks north of Santa Lucia and I would never eat those anticuchos, lucky you didn't get food poisoning. It's kind of sad that a few meters south of the anticucho's lady is La Tinaja, probably the best and realest typical chilean restaurant in downtown. I wish I could help with things like this :c
The anti cucho lady was Peruvian. Tequeños are Venezuelan. That chicha I have no idea where’s from, but is definitely NOT chilean. Ceviche is Peruvian. Everything else was 100% chilean 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
Almost everything you buy and eat is Venezuelan, Peruvian or Colombian food, until before the arrival of this million Latin American immigrants (2015) the only things that were sold on the streets were sopaipillas and hot dogs. which is Chilean fast food. For a health issue, Chileans do not sell meat, Haitians sell meat on the street ... cat? of dog? the hands were washed before preparing (the sopaipilla comes from the factory and is only fried)
I assumed you were going to have this problem but I didn't expect this was going to be literally the first commentary in it because Chilean people rarely have lunch or dinner on the streets. Sure there are empanadas, sopaipillas but for most people that doesn't count as a meal.
What? Lol calling Empanadas and a rip off of Ceviche, Chileno and not Peruvian? HAHAHAHA you are hilarious. Pastel de Choclo is ripped off from Mexico. Accept it, Chile has no Original Dishes. they are well known to steal from other countries, I met Chilenos that thought Reggae was Chileno... Oh wait, Hotdogs Are Chileno?
Yeah, I could never find spicy food in Chile. I even found an Indian (Comida Hindu) restaurant and would beg them to make the food spicy but it was never spicy. Horse meat is eaten in Chile, be on the lookout for that. I never heard of llama meat when I lived in Santiago. That sweet drink you didn't like too much probably had manjar in it. Manjar is called dulce de leche in Argentina and when I've seen it in the US they also call it dulce de leche. Manjar is incredibly popular in Chile but most foreigners don't get what the big deal is about it. If you make any friends in Chile they will probably invite you to an asado, where they grill up a bunch of meat. If someone calls it a barbecue, the gringos get disappointed because they can't find any barbecue sauce in Chile ha ha.
Tequeños, like empanadas and arepas, vary in every Latin American country. In Venezuelan, they're fried and very greasy (like most of their food), and the cheese they use is different. You can also use chocolate or other fillings as well. Fortunately in larger cities like New York, you can probably find restaurants of every different country and you can try half a dozen different recipes of the same food. In Houston, there's a huge Latin American population, and there are restaurants and food trucks of every different country here.
Chilean food? Kids, you are buying food from immigrants that have invaded Chile, Chileans do not like to eat from street vendors but rather from small restaurants. That's an insult to Chilean culture.
I didnt know Chile has their pastel de choclo version. Un Perú You can get this dish un Arequipa. If You want yo know the real chilean dishes, You have to search in Google. Because a Lot of peruvian dishes are prepared in chilean restaurants, and tourist end up beliving a lie.
So far all looks good. But I would never eat street food. I am a big wimp with poor digestive stomach symptoms. Can’t even do it here in LA where I live, less in Manila where I am at. So I am jealous. Gosh Santiago looks so beautiful. How was the weather? I could try the sweet pastries. That is my only plus. You said croissant, I said SI. Hahaha
hahahahhaha i know when i first started traveling i was a little worried but you just watch. IF other people are eating it and they have a high turn over rate, most the time you will be completely fine
Do the merch come with quotes... Jimmy: "you know the food is good" Tah: "Mhmm Sooo Good"... The empanadas looks like the african meat pie and Jamaican patties. Corn is such a versatile food
Cuando vas a Santiago es más fácil encontrarse con un extranjero que con un chileno, para eso hay que ir hacia el sur como en Concepción y Temuco , ahí venden comida tradicional chilena
That brochette and that drink are not Chilean food. Currently there are many Venezuelan immigrants who have started selling their own national dishes, so it is difficult to find traditional Chilean food on the street. the empanada and the corn cake that they tasted are traditional Chilean dishes, the rest are things brought and prepared by foreigners who are living in Chile.
I think the only Chilean foods that you can eat in the streets are the complete and sandwich (Chacarero-Lomitos) you could eat in the streets, everything else that is sold is from other countries. The bridge where they were is a dangerous place, a lot of robberies. Chilean food is better to try it in typical places, or in a restaurant. There are many typical places in Santiago to try Chilean food, you must go to "El Hoyo", "Fuente Alemana" "Mardoqueo", "Portal Bulnes" "Galindo" "Barrio Italia" "Barrio Lastarria" On your next trips to Chile, you can consult Many Chileans and they will give you good tips and not risk having bad experiences
PANTRUCAS, CEVICHE DE SALMÓN, PASTEL DE CHOCLO, HUMITA, SOPAIPILLAS, PICARONES, CURANTO, CHORRILLANA, CHURRASCOS, CANCATO, CHUAÑE O MELLA CHILOTA, EMPANADAS, MOTE CON HUESILLO, CHUCHUFLÍS Y TORTA DE CUCHUFLÍS, PISCO Y VINO CHILENO, SANTIAGO NO ES CHILE!!!
Completo is basically a giant hotdog with slabs of condiments. They sure do love ❤️ their mayonnaise. Best described as a floppy clown shoe... If ever you have a chance 😉 you should watch old episode of Anthony Bourdain when he was in Chile. God rest his soul 🙏
You both should know the United States has advised all Americans to come home while you can. Traveling to the states could stop indefinitely. Be safe, God be with each of you.
the lady vendor 6:09 who doesn't want to show her face on the camera maybe she's a Venezuelan who migrate illegally to Chile, that's why she doesn't want to show her face or to be filmed, I think she wants to avoid the authorities to recognise her, there are lots of Venezuelan immigrants in Chile, because of what happened in Venezuela right now, you can see in her cart the printed heart shape Venezuelan flag..
I'm thinking you must be from Thailand, when it comes to street food - Thailand takes the crown. =) I never seen so many street food spots like in Thailand (and China). I wouldn't recommend eating from street vendors in Peru or Chile, they have been prohibited for almost 20 years now. Peru used to have a lot of street food vendors, but due to hygiene and because they were taking customers away from restaurants, informality, they banned it. So to make it more clear, you will not get the amount of quality of food in a street vendor in Peru or Chile, like you do in Thailand, Vietnam or China. I am personally sad because I believe street food vendors are something special, but it is what it is.
so sad that you didint get to try sanguche de potito (in english little butt sandwich) is made with cow intestines salted with chorizo onion and a ton of spices in a marraqueta bread, usually sold nearby stadiums when there is a soccer game. must try if you come to Chile, also pear empanadas, palmeritas, dulces de la Ligua (Ligua´s pastries), manjarcitos, guatitas a la jardinera, seafood empanadas. you missed a lot im telling you.
The only chilean street food they ate was completos because de chicha and that cheese thing and that anticucho wasn't chilean the empanada looked amazing so it was the pastel de choclo and la paila marina. Mote con huesillo yuummmm but in chile now there's too many food from other countries wich it's good but when i went to visit last year i wanted to eat traditional food i couldn't find any not even my mom cook traditional anymore ver sad 🥺

That Paila Marina looks delicious. BTW, which visa did Tah use to enter Chile if i may ask?
I don't need visa to enter Chile as Thai citizen !:)
yes !! Paila Marina is amazing
Leche condensada dance 💃🏽🕺🏻🤪👯♀️🏋️♀️🤸🏻♀️🌈✨ soooo goooood
ok, you did it, now i'm hungry again. looking good people
HAhahahah right so am I hahaha
Chilean food? Kids, you are buying food from immigrants that have invaded Chile, Chileans do not like to eat from street vendors but rather from small restaurants. That's an insult to Chilean culture.
Ceviche is raw fish marinated in lime juice, to brake the protein. Served cold. It is not cooked with a heat source.
I didnt know Chile has their pastel de choclo version. Un Perú You can get this dish un Arequipa.
If You want yo know the real chilean dishes, You have to search in Google. Because a Lot of peruvian dishes are prepared in chilean restaurants, and tourist end up beliving a lie.
that's not completely true
So far all looks good. But I would never eat street food. I am a big wimp with poor digestive stomach symptoms. Can’t even do it here in LA where I live, less in Manila where I am at. So I am jealous.
Gosh Santiago looks so beautiful. How was the weather? I could try the sweet pastries. That is my only plus. You said croissant, I said SI. Hahaha
hahahahhaha i know when i first started traveling i was a little worried but you just watch. IF other people are eating it and they have a high turn over rate, most the time you will be completely fine
Mostly the street food does not come from Chile 😂 it’s not common street food because it’s considered low class 😉
Lots of love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
nice place do you have videos in Argentina .?
Yes !!! We visit Argentina after Chile !:)
@@DivertLiving keep videos coming will check playlist
Struggling with the change in foreign currencies... that’s SO me 🤣🤷🏻♂️
hahahah so true!
CHICKEN AND DOG I THINK
Do the merch come with quotes... Jimmy: "you know the food is good" Tah: "Mhmm Sooo Good"... The empanadas looks like the african meat pie and Jamaican patties. Corn is such a versatile food
hahahahhaha yes they will just for you hahahah
Chicken and beef stick looked good!
It was amazing!
That Rocoto looks delicious.
It was so so good!
Are the borders open to u.s citizens right now?? Please answer. Somebody. And what do i have to do
I think the only Chilean foods that you can eat in the streets are the complete and sandwich (Chacarero-Lomitos) you could eat in the streets, everything else that is sold is from other countries. The bridge where they were is a dangerous place, a lot of robberies. Chilean food is better to try it in typical places, or in a restaurant.
There are many typical places in Santiago to try Chilean food, you must go to "El Hoyo", "Fuente Alemana" "Mardoqueo", "Portal Bulnes"
"Galindo"
"Barrio Italia"
"Barrio Lastarria"
On your next trips to Chile, you can consult Many Chileans and they will give you good tips and not risk having bad experiences
Do not eat food on the streets, just dont, specially meat, do not risk getting a nasty stomach infection
Street food from Venezuela and Peru in Santiago.. that is what this is..
is it just me, or does this guy look a whole lot better in his new videos, without the gf? Like physically and just like he's got life in him
PANTRUCAS, CEVICHE DE SALMÓN, PASTEL DE CHOCLO, HUMITA, SOPAIPILLAS, PICARONES, CURANTO, CHORRILLANA, CHURRASCOS, CANCATO, CHUAÑE O MELLA CHILOTA, EMPANADAS, MOTE CON HUESILLO, CHUCHUFLÍS Y TORTA DE CUCHUFLÍS, PISCO Y VINO CHILENO, SANTIAGO NO ES CHILE!!!
8:10 epic momment
:)
Be carefull if you eat at the street, you may find not higienic food really.
You both should know the
United States has advised all Americans to come home while you can. Traveling to the states could stop indefinitely. Be safe, God be with each of you.
Thank you so much! We have been home for over a month now :)
the lady vendor 6:09 who doesn't want to show her face on the camera maybe she's a Venezuelan who migrate illegally to Chile, that's why she doesn't want to show her face or to be filmed, I think she wants to avoid the authorities to recognise her, there are lots of Venezuelan immigrants in Chile, because of what happened in Venezuela right now, you can see in her cart the printed heart shape Venezuelan flag..
Those are also Venezuelan tequeños ! Hahahaha and Venezuela chicha too
that's like the real twist happened at the end of movie lol
YUUUUMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYY
So so so good!
Of all the foods they tried, few are considered "Chilean food", good luck for the next opportunity :)
tequenos and chicha are from Venezuela the two cars the street food has the flag from Venezuela
Epic trip
Love chile
Ahhh ok! Thanks for the tips!
Anticuchos at the beginning were pork and chicken, not beef. :)
15:01
so sad that you didint get to try sanguche de potito (in english little butt sandwich) is made with cow intestines salted with chorizo onion and a ton of spices in a marraqueta bread, usually sold nearby stadiums when there is a soccer game. must try if you come to Chile, also pear empanadas, palmeritas, dulces de la Ligua (Ligua´s pastries), manjarcitos, guatitas a la jardinera, seafood empanadas. you missed a lot im telling you.
Most of the food that you tried in Chile's street was Venezuela food hahahha good look for the next trip
You heard it here folks. Chilean Empanada > Peruvian and Colombian Empanada. :)
Chilling on Chile.
Hahahhaha true
10:36
The only chilean street food they ate was completos because de chicha and that cheese thing and that anticucho wasn't chilean the empanada looked amazing so it was the pastel de choclo and la paila marina. Mote con huesillo yuummmm but in chile now there's too many food from other countries wich it's good but when i went to visit last year i wanted to eat traditional food i couldn't find any not even my mom cook traditional anymore ver sad 🥺
Aww that is really so so sad
En chile ahora adoptaron a la chicha venezolana y sus tequeños jajaja que buena 🤣
??? en Chile hay muchos inmigrantes venezolanos, esa gente que vendía chicha y tequeños ni siquiera eran chilenos
