    I'm married to a Chilean and we use to live in Santiago. I got 'warned' about my camera all the time, but in all the years I've been going or living there, nobody has ever bothered me or tried to rip me off in any way. I think using common sense with safety in any metropolitan area is necessary anywhere in the world. I always feel safe and relaxed in Chile.

    Hey btw as Chilean, Uber is not illegal. Idk who told you that, but that is not true. The thing that’s illegal is in Ubers in the airport. That’s because that place is for the taxis.
    Also subway is NOT affordable. People don’t make that much money and you have to use it everyday so it adds up.

    I lived in Santiago for 3 years and never needed air conditioning. The weather is like the San Francisco Bay Area but the seasons are reversed. There's about three chilly and rainy months of winter and the rest of the year is really nice. You guys happened to arrive during a heat wave.
    The protests are over pensions and minimum wages and things like that. You hear a lot about how great the economy is but the money all goes to the top. I worked with rich Chileans at a multinational firm when I was there and they do have a bit of a "let them eat cake" type of attitude for the most part. I hired a maid to come and clean my apartment and do laundry one day a week. They guy recommending her said "only pay her 8 dollars a day. No more". I paid her twice that and even then I felt totally cheap.
    There's a really delicious type of salsa there called "pebre". It's too late to recommend it I guess so I hope you tried some. Hope you guys went to Persa Bio Bio (a big flea market). That's a great place to get a taste of the less fancy side of Santiago. Lots of really nice people there in Chile, I miss it.

    Santiago has really interesting and beautiful places, like Santa Lucía hill años San Cristobal hill (the metropolitan park) on my first time I thought how people could get there by walking, but in the next years became very com to my jogging to te top. It’s full of museums like the natural sciences on Quinta Normal, the costanera center a complex with South America’s tallest building (300 m). An hour trip could get you in to Aviña Del Mar and Valparaiso (the 5th region of Chile) with beautiful places that make you fall in love. To the north on the third region (about 6 hours from Viña Del Mar ) is located the Elqui’s valley, the biggest wine producer region and the worlds most clear skies (together with Atacama’s region on the country’s northern region). By the south on the 8th region you could find the Lakes region with Valdivia, and Osorno, and down to Punta Arenas you could find the worlds most austral lands. A fun fact, that place (the Chilean part of the Patagonia) is only the midpoint of the Chilean territory, the rest is located over the antártica. Hope you’ll enjoyed your time at that beautiful place

    Chile doesn't have street food, just junk chilean food in some places or corners. Restaurants in Santiago and North are mostly bad, you should avoid popular places to eat or streets, you'll get very bad experiences from that. Mall's are a good alternative. Sadly typical chilean food is cooked in half of chilean homes and is difficult to find well prepared. So to eat well you'll have to expend more money in good restaurants in Santiago. In the south is better. Just dedicate to look for well recommended places or simply cook your own food, sorry about that. 😞😞😞😞

      Divert Living It’s just our culture. We always overestimate the negative things about our countries, it’s just how we are. Of course you can get robbed, the same way you can get robbed in NY or LA, but 99% of the times nothing will happen to you. Santiago is actually one of, if not the safest metropoly in the Americas.

    Howdy guys. I bumped into your videos by coincidence and I sure am glad I did. I've been following your videos ever since. I've never been to South America except for Bolivia. Please don't get me wrong but something was missing in Santiago, I don't know what. Vibe? Energy? Magnetism? Don't know. I live in Mexico, right in North America. I've read somewhere that Mexico even though Mexico is also considered as a Latin American country and for that reason, it should be similar to those other Latin American brothers countries, the reality it is not. Mexico has been sort of an isolated island within Latin America. I found that text interesting. Unfortunately, Mexico rarely sees down south of the border. Mexico is way too busy embracing its 121 million people and on a fast track to grow and to be developed. A never-stopping nation reassuring its identy and patriotism that we are so immersed in our own changes and idiosyncrasy that we have drifted away from the rest of Latin American countries. Not that we do it on purpose but subconsciously we make the gap even wider.
    NAFTA is pretty much responsible for this losing bonds with other Latin American countries. We make up together with the USA and Canada a strong commerce trading team strengthening ourselves therefore it makes us believe we have taken off long time ago leaving Latin America a bit far away. When are you coming back to Mexico you guys? You gotta visit Central Mexico, places like Guanajuato, Guadalajara, San Miguel de Allende and many other mind-blowing places. A big hug for y'all.

    @18.09 Jimmy tries to be affectionate ....
    Tah quickly puts a stop to it and then feigns a pose to try to cover up her move .
    These are red flags that tell you she didn't have feelings for you Jim .
    You provided her with 1/2 priced accommodations and experience running a TH-cam channel.
    I was used like this before Jimmy , so i can see all the signs that she was only using you.

    Look, I travel all over the world ,,, and you have no experience, I know the United States and are also more dangerous than in some sectors of Chile ,,, and the poor in the United States is poorer than in Chile, unfortunately the people in Chile does not know the economic system that exists in the United States, which is one of the worst in ameria or the American continent ,,,,,, Chile is one of the safest countries in America, safer than the United States% of crime ... but I will bring a camera so it is to draw attention ,,, in New York they would also steal your camera I think it is irresponsible and stupid and you give a bad signal about my country .... also in Chile there are protests because we have a democracy where it People have the right to express themselves, not like in other countries in America that are afraid to open their mouths like in the United States or like the rest of America ,,,, being the strongest political parties on the right, this is seen in all the Americas. ..I would like to say it alone Mind that the United States is one of the most underdeveloped countries in America ,,, I am not talking about wealth, which are two very different but important factors .... Costa Rica Chile Paraguai Uruguay Canada are better countries than the United States, unfortunately I cannot talk about the states that exist in the United States ,,,, but all over the world there are different geographic religious political groups etc of course we are not European we are American countries where criminality racism discrimination and where the abuse of power of social classes are a daily problem ,,,, do not forget that the doctrine ,, culture and dogma is the same throughout the American continent ,,,,,,, much more is missing ,,,,,,,,, etc

    Just wanted to let you guys know and for the rest of people visiting Chile that Uber is not illegal in Chile 🇨🇱 it’s just like in the states where ubers have their own pick ups at the airport 😀

    • @sopaipillascnmostaza
      @sopaipillascnmostaza 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, uber is illegal in Chile, the current law requires a special registration for the cars and a profesional drivers licence. Uber drivers can get hefty fines and their car impounded for working as pirate taxi drivers.

    • @sopaipillascnmostaza
      @sopaipillascnmostaza 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @lucas They are charging for transporting passengers, therefore they are recognized as pirate taxi drivers. There's legislation on the way to allow private drivers with apropriate professional licence, registration and insurance to work as app based drivers, but is not regulated yet. It's not fair for traditional taxies nor safe for passengers not requiring a professional driver licence for the same job.
