- Securing electrical wires is important to do when running new wires. However, if you over drive your electrical staples then the wire may short out. In this video we will walk through how to correctly secure electrical wiring with staples and what a wire looks like when it shorts out.

Great job, thanks for sharing.
It's the little things that matter so much. Thanks!
Great video how to do it, straight forward and got to the point, the experiment was really cool.
Thanks for the informative video.
You are welcome!
Have you ever mis-hit a staple and had it come flying back at you? Kudos to you for wearing safety glasses. Your forehead is well protected.
Can't say we ever had a staple fly back at us. However, you are right... you should always wear safety glasses! (Over your eyes 🤣)
What size staples are those ? Actually what I'm trying to do is get all these exstention cords off my floor. I live in a motorhome and my brother is running a line from his home to mine. I have all these exstention cords connected to it to access the power where I need it so this has left me with just a mess of cords everywhere and some times my son steps on then he actually unplugged the one to my fridge ruining 9 lbs of hamburger. Believe me when I say that hurt the pocket so I wanna get them off the floor for safety and practical reasons any advice would help.
I'd check your local building codes. I got screwed when there was a code update and they changed the requirement to needing insulated staples. Just make sure you're not gonna have to tear everything out like I did.
Good call out! Each local area will have their tweaks to what is considered passing.
How do you staple after drywall is installed already? If you add a new outlet for example
In that case you do not staple them. The staples are in place during construction and attics to keep them from getting in the way of the other trades like drywallers.
Just fish them down the walls, no staples required.
Is this much of an issue with insulated staples
It is not as much of an issue with insulated staples. However, if you drive them in hard enough it could still causes issues over time.
Wow. Who knew
RIP those with poor hand-eye coordination lol
If you pinch it And if it’s on a AFCI breaker you are screwed
If you staple wiring the old adage of don’t leave old wiring in a wall so you don’t scare the heck out of the next guy whose doing some mods and finding out he just cut thru wiring that shouldn’t be there and thinking it could have been live. How would you be able to pull old wiring out of an existing wall?
Hey! In our experience old cloth wiring seemed to be stabled in pretty darn tight and was not able to pull it out. So, it stays in the walls.
I thought an electricians hammer was a pair of side cutting pliers ( Kleins ).
😂
Who thunk it wire next to wood at least its not as bad as it was
You can buy better staples too.
True!! We have switched up to using the plastic protects staples!
So the only reason to staple is for cosmetic reasons?
Not cosmetic but to keep the wire from flopping around in the wall cavity.
