    In this video I will be showing you how I prefer to staple wires although. I will be discussing how a great friend of mine did his and how I do mine both are right just wanted to show you how to do it. I prefer the 9/16 staples with the insulators on them over the 1/2 or 9/16 staples without any insulateros on them

    Exactly the video I was looking for! Just bought a house with a number of issues flagged by the home inspection guy. I've used the all metal staples in the past and I'm sure I hammered them in too deep. I was going to go with the insulated staple for 12/2 Romex up in the attic of the new house, but did not know whether to get 1/2' or 9/16". Your video helped me decide on the 9/16". Also, yours is the only video that shows what proper depth of the staple looks like, and the damage to the Romex by driving a metal staple too deep.

    This might be a rudimentary topic, but I'm glad you cover it nonetheless.

    Your way is the way I staple, only I have never used the plastic insulated staples.

    Thank you for this video im a new apprentice, and from what you showed, im going a little too tight on my staples! I will now adjust and try to justbhave em snug and not create any marks or deformation on my romex! Super appreciate the vid!!

    Nice job stripping away the outer covering of the Romex and showing us the indented/impacted hot and neutral wires. You showed us what your friend preferred, and what you preferred, it would have been nice to know why your friend wanted to keep the Romex as loose as he did, and why you nail it down tighter. For people like me without your knowledge/experience such things are not obvious.

      According to him he felt like if there was any settling in the house it would give easier. My reason is the same but I just prefer it just a tad tighter. Neither is wrong

    Thank you so much for your video. It happend to me i went to use an outlet and i had NO POWER went under the crawl space and found that the stample had rusted thru the jacket and shorted it out. Glad thats all it did. I dont know if i should take on a REstapleing JOB and remove all the old staples and install your bushing type. What would you do? Again Thank you so much !!!

      That was probably a fluke thing. I don't know if I would do that but definitely something to watch out for in the future

    If I can go back in time to my piecework electrician residential days… I would use stand off clips and not even staple.

    Your way and with the bushing. I like the staples with the individual small nails and the white bushing. The bushing will likely bottom out on the stud before crushing a single Romex cable. They're probably more expensive and time consuming to use, but it's not a concern to me as a diy'er. What's your opinion on those things?

    • @MountaineerOutdoors
      @MountaineerOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have only used the ones with the nails on phone lines a long time ago. Never really used them on romex. As long as it's holds tight, nail it 😂 😂

  • @JIPNW
    @JIPNW ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like snug but not crushed, reason being i dont want the cable to transfer strain and pull on any connections in an adjacent box.I like the insulated staples as well but I'll use whichever one we can get.
    Another issue is the manufacturer will list on the packaging what cable, (10/3, 12/2, 143, etc) that the staples should be used on. And don't forget stapling multiple pieced of romex under one staple.😑
    And as always all the products should be fine, until you find yourself in an attic, inventing a new yoga position.

    How many or often do you apply plastic insulated staples on a stud when running Romex?
    I heard there must be one within 4" out the box, but not how many after.

    Can (1) 1/2” blue insulated staple contain (2) 14/2 romex?

      @MountaineerOutdoors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would feel comfortable with that. I have tried to look for code and clarifications and nothing much. 2 will be no issues I do it all the time
