Neurological Augmentations to the Spartans | Biological Consequences of Success and Failure

  • After increasing the strength of bones and adding to muscle density, the nervous system needed to be overhauled. After this augmentation was completed it had quite a few consequences that took the Spartans a while to get used to. In this episode we will discuss what happens after a successful augmentation and an unsuccessful one. I do not discuss the neural implant in this episode but it will have its own!

      Chief now wears gen 3 armor. Sam-034 wore gen 1 armor which weighed 1,000lbs. So yeah they weigh more than 800 lbs in armor.
      Oh and Chief weighs 394.6 lbs without armor. Meaning in armor a Spartan II weighs over 1,000 lbs counting the armor. Even in gen 2 armor Chief weighs over 1,000 lbs. 1,276.4 to be exact for chief in gen 2 armor.
      In other words Spartans are freakishly large beings. Sure Spartan 4s might pass for normal humans at a distance but thats until you get close enough to see that their all nearly 300 lbs of solid muscle and stand between 6ft 9in to 9ft 11in tall.

    Is it possible that within Spartans they still see time as we do but when in dangerous situations they get that "signal speed" boost that you mentioned with the dog attack analogy, the games make it very hard to believe the Spartans always see time as slower than a snail trudging through glue. They are able to speak normally too which kinda supports my thinking on this, of course it could entirely be a creative decision for the games but idk...

    • @dr._breens_beard
      @dr._breens_beard ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend to write off the games for any kind of lore-accuracy, not because they arent canon but because they are balanced for gameplay and graphical horsepower reasons. The spv3.3 mod overhaul has a "slow-mo" pickup that looks similar to the overshield but gives a great representation of how "spartan time" would be. Itd be nice if the mainline games had stuff like that but beyond significantly raising the damage done by enemies i have no idea how they'd balance it cause they more or less seem to always be in "spartan time" within lore

    the neurology of these Spartans is something that makes their appearances in the games pretty underwhelming. you don't see how big of a gap there is between a Spartan and a human. they just seem tanky and slow. its probably the biggest issue I've had with the presentation of the halo games. which are fantastic otherwise. on a side note, I wonder if Spartans tend to get bored when people speak at normal speeds, cause they should be running a bit faster than that on default, and I'd imagine that chief keeps his lines short and sweet cause he doesn't want to waste more time chatting at 0.1 speed probably has to slow his own speech down deliberately too.

The most out dated suit grants the SPARTAN a reaction time of 4 ms, and is still significantly faster with adrenaline. Little and maybe unneeded sidenote but if you see a Dog aggresivly run at you, TRY not to panic and stand or run away, instead, charge at him and scream at him.
    It hurts his ears, he sees you aren't afraid and you are bigger so he's likely to be afraid and will stop or even run away himself.

    Y'know the whole neurons having around 10k connections each makes me wonder if our brains operate on a base 10k instead of a base 2 like computers. Since computers have only 1 and 0 (Electricity goes or doesn't) but each neuron sends the signal to 1 out of 10k that makes it seem like that'd be the equivalent of a 10 000 state... I forget the name of the part but whatever tiny bit in a computer either allows or doesn't based on its state...

    One thing I will mention is that the 3s were made way before Reach, around 2530s. Colonel Ackerson make the 3s to undermine Halsey's S2 program. The 3s were basically suicide Soldiers, trading lives for time. If any S3s helped with the defense of Reach aside from the members of NOBLE team, it would have been Gamma, but again, Gammas were still in training. So, Technically, the 3s odf Noble Team were the only 3s to assist in the defense of Reach, while the rest were S2s

    The brain is capable of incredible predictive functions that increase with experience. Maybe this is why Master Chief has outlived many Spartans, his increased experience allowing him to react even before an enemy attacks?

    Hey, Roanoke, I was curious if you'd continue the Metro series; I know you've pretty much covered all of the mutants in the games (except for more minor ones I think like the giant amoeba's that fight alongside the Biomass) but there's a whole bunch in the novels worth looking at, I know it might be a bit different but things like the Slimslugs and other lesser known mutants might be interesting. Anyway cool video!

  • @QueerSupervillain
    @QueerSupervillain 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    a reminder, the Spartan IIs weren't made to fight the covenant. They were made to fight Humans, specifically the Insurrection that was starting to get much worse until the Covenant came and glassed a couple of planets. The ONI and Halsey kidnapped and fundamentally changed these kids to fight other humans, and as fate would have it, something much worse came along and we accidentally made the perfect Super Soldiers to fight them.
    an interesting thought occurs to me though, since the Flood hijacks people through their nervous system (namely, specifically, the Parasite Forms), would a Spartan be actually more susceptible to Parasite Form infection than a typical human

    • @clintelkins9630
      @clintelkins9630 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only problem for the infection forms would be the, yk, 2 inch think titanium armor plates and techsuit

    • @QueerSupervillain
      @QueerSupervillain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clintelkins9630 the titanium is only the green pieces we see on the armor. The techsuit itself is basically just carbon fiber weave, but more actually is just a technobable suit designed to allow for the technological amplifications of the spartan II's reflexive capabilities.
      Basically, the green plating is the part that keeps them alive, the suit underneat is what lets the suit keep them alive. And also eventually becomes the basis of being able to rapidly replace the armor plating of the mjolnir suit.
      The techsuit portion isnt anymuch stronger than like Gordon Freeman's suit in Half-life 1

      tobi Honestly, at the rate we advance our military technology, fifty years is probably closer to the mark instead. Not to mention that the applications would also allow civilians to protect themselves in the event that the military was unsuccessful in completely preventing a hostile invasion from another country or another species not of this world.

    Roanoke, the UK might use metric however when it comes to distance and velocity we actually use miles over kilometers only when travelling in vehicles.
    Infact we know by mind how far a mile is and a kilometer is however when we are talking measurements in construction we use millimeters and meters but when we need to say how far away something is or how fast we use miles
