No joke, it was so weird pretty sure I say a Hammer Horror film* before Critters, but Critters gave me nightmares around the same age. *Late eighties, most horror wasn't any scarier than dark fantasy.
You know what I like most about Critters, as a species? Over four movies (that I have seen) they never stop being scary. No matter how silly they act they never stop being dangerous. You never get the feeling in later movies that a regular person would be able to take them on, like with some other monsters.
True. They are intelligent, predatory, aggressive, and know how to leverage all of that. So the hijinks just makes them scarier. You know this thing is sentient and sapient, and it chooses to see you as cattle
I absolutely love the Krites. They're obviously extremely intelligent, capable of prison breaking, ship navigation, and advanced language, but they still know the good time of eating flesh off the bone. Bless them.
Gremlins. While not predatory per se, they would totally outbreed the critters, and probably find all kinds of sadistic ways to kill em. Something I've always wondered about gremlins: would other water based liquids have the same effect? Blood? And why didn't snow make em multiply?
@blackc1479 maybe their skin senses that snow means a harder environment for their 'children' to grow, so not the right time to reproduce. Re. Critters vs Gremlins, one thing the Critters really have up their sleeve is speed and the ability to grow huge (in Critters 1 only). I'm not saying they would actually beat the Gremlins, but they would keep the battle going for some time.

Hey Roanoak, really like the videos and the biological breakdowns you do. I think you would like the series Scavengers Reign on MAX. Whole planet full of strange alien creatures to break down and humans dealing with them.
When it comes to movie monsters to analyze, I'll always recommend starting the Heisei Gamera trilogy by covering the Atlantis-based bioengineering found in *Gamera: Guardian of the Universe* with Gamera and the Gyaos!
It's really interesting to see someone's take on the xenobiology aspect of movie monsters like this! Also *fist bump* for the subtle TF2 background music. It's a small detail, but massively appreciate, lol
TH-cam needs to support content like this. It's fully covered under fair use! I don't understand how TH-cam doesn't see the huge fan base around content for grown ups. If they supported things a bit better, they would have so much more success.
