  • Lisa Gade reviews MSI’s new 15” laptop for creators, the Prestige 15. It’s also available with similar specs in a smaller 14” size as the Prestige 14. We look at the high end model with a 6 core Intel 10th gen Comet Lake CPU, NVIDIA GTX 1650 Max-Q dedicated graphics, 4K matte wide gamut IPS display, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage. The laptop sits in between Ultrabooks and mobile workstations/gaming laptops in terms of performance, and is thinner and lighter that some of the competition. Battery life is a plus here, as is the comfy keyboard.

    The biggest disadvantage on this laptop is that the drive PCIe controller dedicated for the M2 SSDs are just NVME 3rd generation x 2 , so we can not take advantage of the high speed SSDs with link width of x 4 . The fans are "helicopters" on big load

    Finally one of these with 32gb of ram! I'm so into the Lenovo Yoga C940, especially with that integrated stylus, but it caps at 16gb (soldered)... Might just have to get this one with an xp-pen if I decide to get back into drawing! Thanks for the wonderful review Lisa ;)

      If you're willing to spend that much and like to use the pen, you should look for laptops with high refresh rates. IPad Pro has 120 Hz that's the reason it has the best stylus experience on any tablets. C940 uses 60 hz and the stylus experience won't be any different from any laptop in the past with 60 hz display.

    here in my country, in Asia, no sales I ever seen from laptop brands. this laptop is like less than 60% the price compared with these 2.
    the fact that it has 1080p version ~1400$ does help those are not "content creators" that still need power and mobility for their laptops.

Seemed like kind of a jerk move, but the TH-cam algorithm reportedly treats likes and dislikes the same (both represent viewer engagement, as far as they’re concerned), so hopefully it doesn’t affect the channel. I’ve heard that a certain number of dislikes can be expected from people on mobile hitting the wrong button without realizing it, too.

    @cabbage2794 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you for the review, I needed this😂
    I was expecting more for gaming use.
    Aside from weight and battery (and aesthetics), what else would I be losing when opting for gaming laptop over MSI prestige with the same gpu?
    Is GTX 1050 still reliable for triple A games at least for the next 5 years?

    • @dknystylez
      @dknystylez 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You wouldn't choose the same GPU if you wanted a gaming laptop.

    • @cabbage2794
      @cabbage2794 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      dknystylez I'm worried that 1050, 1060 won't be good for the next 2-3 years. And there's a few gaming laptops that come with 1660 ti max q or the more popular 1650 max q. So gpu-wise p15 should hold well but from reviews, even this video, it's barely on par with entry level gaming with same gpu. So I'm wondering is it the CPU, and not the gpu holding it back or other factors.🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @dknystylez
      @dknystylez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cabbage2794 the 1650 isn't really a gaming GPU, but you can play triple A titles at medium settings with decent frame rates. It's a lot better than the 1050 you mentioned. The 1660ti will be your best bet if you want something to be able to play graphic intense games on ultra settings.

    • @cabbage2794
      @cabbage2794 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      dknystylez yeah, but gaming isn't my going to be primary use. Probably just going to play one or two games at any one time. Just have to decide my priorities but I'm really leaning towards p15.

    Is there a decent enough boost to battery life if you opt for the 1080p screen over the 4K screen?

    • @davidlavoie5887
      @davidlavoie5887 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically 1080p is going to be less intense on any battery than 4k. The amount of pixels is significantly reduced. That being said the 4k screen will be more color accurate and provide higher amounts of detail. I am curious of reducing the 4k screen to a 1080 resolution on the software side will reduce this. Based off of the size of this screen alone Id recommend gaming in 1080p as it wont be very noticable in most cases.

  • @sabastiantseng

    I had one of that, 4K. The issue was: with the original power cable plugged, the battery consumes about 6% in 1 hour under the performance setting with screen off (connected to the external monitor via the hub coming with the package)

    • @davidlavoie5887
      @davidlavoie5887 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've heard of this issue before with some cases. I would like to ask, were your drivers up to date? And were you displaying it on an external screen.

    • @sabastiantseng
      @sabastiantseng 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Lavoie at least there was nothing left in windows update to download. And the version was the newest as well. I was projecting it on second display only.

    • @sabastiantseng
      @sabastiantseng 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Lavoie also, their management software didn’t detect any newer driver either. I consider it to be the updated machine.

    • @davidlavoie5887
      @davidlavoie5887 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sabastiantseng Ill try it on an external display when I get mine. It doesn't surprise me that it drains, but I assume its due to overwatting the CPU in preformance mode.

      @Bubz of Steel this is not a gaming laptop or a business laptop it is a content creation laptop with video and photo editing in mind, the problem is that most cameras have sd card and not micro sd

    • @dknystylez

      For gaming, yes. For editing, no. 4k is useless on these screen sizes for most users. Most people always want the best of the best so they choose the 4k option.

      If you aren't hooking up to an external display, I'd recommend the 4k version of the MSI 15 inch. The color accuracy is going to be very crucial, especially since you dont have to purchase a configurator.

      gigabyte has 2 or 3 m.2 slots depending on the size. thats the reason i got my aero 15x, it was one of few that had 2 m.2 slots from the start. really glad i did since i put 2tb in the 2nd slot and both drives are almost full. i still have the option of getting a 2tb in the first slot for a total of 4, which at this rate may be necessary

    • @lumdermaku

      Very good so far. It launches AS very fast and it build small projects instantly. Fans usually stay on the same level unless the cpu goes over 70C and then they start ramping up slowly, but they quickly go back to around 50-60C with AS+Emulator+browser running. Idle temps are nice, usually 35-55C at most when on charger. Cpu performance is pretty much identical to an i7 9750H, not sure why Lisa didn't even bright that up in this review.
