It's an awful design! 1 fan for both CPU and GPU didn't work back in 2015-2016 and it doesn't work now! For its price you should expect more especially with MSI's experience in laptops now!

The build quality on the released version is much better than what is shown here. In terms of heat, it only gets really hot under extremely high loads (while gaming for example). I use external peripherals, so I never notice this; though I do feel it is at a bearable enough temperature where one can type/use WASD comfortably. The touchpad is also fine, nothing I can find to complain about.

@Pietro Figura yeah the 15" model has 2 cooling fans and longer battery life. However it actually costs more ( just around $30 CAD) here. I've read several posts on reddit and have decided to get the prestige 15 next week. Still I think it's worth mentioning that I'm planning on undervolting it a little bit to avoid that thermal issue.

Great review thanks! Your comments about viability of a 4K (or more realistically an FHD) workflow for video editing or photo retouching etc make this a rare but very useful option. I think MSi have cottoned on earlier than competitors to the fact that business users are increasingly needing creative tools e.g. for social media posting so do need the CPU & GPU performance but aren’t looking for a lurid gaming slab or a 15” or 17” workstation that won’t impress your fellow passengers on a plane or train

I'm a Graphic Designer and Video Editor and till now I was compelled by PC makers to buy bigger laptops(atleast 15") for raw graphics power for rendering on the go. This offering from MSI is quite tempting for me as I prefer to travel lighter without compromising with raw power of i7 and proper dedicated graphic chip.

The HP Spectre is very good for the price 9th gen and a new updated 15 inch model is coming out with 10th gen however I have one that has the 9th Gen and Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q and it works well I can play most games at high to ultra settings at 1080p and run a few games at 4K. And when it comes to video editing it's great. The design and build quality of the laptop really convinced me and the fans spin up but it does not get super loud. Also with the newer models the thermals are improved. The keyboard does not get very warm just the back of the laptop but that is expected overall when it comes to heat the bottom of the laptop gets warm when gaming/video editing for a long time but even after awhile it still doesn't become unbearable. Also I'm not sure if the MSI has it but the Spectre has windows hello and a fingerprint sensor and it can charge with USB-C I got it for cheap during black Friday and recommend when buying this laptop look for a sale or discount of some sort.

I just purchased the Prestige 14 ($1,774 w/promo bundle) but am having difficulty adjusting to the keyboard arrangement --- the Power button is in the upper right corner, where the Delete key is usually placed --- and the lack of a separate Home key and End key is immensely frustrating. Worse, I've spent hours upon hours, trying to develop the muscle-memory needed to strike the right- and left-click areas on the super-slick surface of the mousepad accurately! Would I buy it again? Yes, because I needed the light weight and appreciate the excellent graphics. (For sound quality, I use a bluetoothed Flip 4 speaker.)

Hey!! I was actually looking at your channel the other day to see if you had reviewed this laptop. I'm planning to pick up the 15" model in the new year. Do you have any experience with that one? Nice video! Liked anbd subbed.

@@AnilPoudyal That's what I thought! It also has expandable storage which is a must for me. From what I can tell, the 14" model only has 1 bay which is in use.

Hmmmm....I'm wondering if this can "hang" with my Dell XPS.....I mean it LOOKS nice and all that....but can it compete with my monster?...(who's fans vary rarely turn on.....even when I have a bazillion tabs open!!) I will say I love the look of it...and I definitely go with "matte" screens! .....guess I'll do some more research...

This laptop is a good try. But it's not recommended to buy.
Bring such power hardware in a 1.25kg 14inch laptop is crazy. When you going out you just need to take a 1.25kg laptop + 0.2 kg type c charger ,instead if a 2kg laptop + 0.5kg adapter + maybe 0.15kg phone charger.
That's almost 1kg less in your backpack.
But the poor frame and cooling system killed all these benefit.

I wouldn't recommend it for other OS than Windows, because other operating systems don't support such a big touchpad good enough. I mean there are no drivers that make it easier to use (acidental touch and similar features). Otherwise...it's still too big, why ?

The Prestige 15 is much better in regards to the cooling, battery life and expandable storage/memory. However, the sound is like the 14 inch version, simply terrible. I'm returning mine based off the horrible speakers alone.
