It's an awful design! 1 fan for both CPU and GPU didn't work back in 2015-2016 and it doesn't work now! For its price you should expect more especially with MSI's experience in laptops now!
Great review thanks! Your comments about viability of a 4K (or more realistically an FHD) workflow for video editing or photo retouching etc make this a rare but very useful option. I think MSi have cottoned on earlier than competitors to the fact that business users are increasingly needing creative tools e.g. for social media posting so do need the CPU & GPU performance but aren’t looking for a lurid gaming slab or a 15” or 17” workstation that won’t impress your fellow passengers on a plane or train
Great Review! You had me up until the creaky board. Might not be an issue for some but as someone who has a tendency to press hard this is clearly not for me. Thank you for the informative review really helped me narrow down my decision
I'm a Graphic Designer and Video Editor and till now I was compelled by PC makers to buy bigger laptops(atleast 15") for raw graphics power for rendering on the go. This offering from MSI is quite tempting for me as I prefer to travel lighter without compromising with raw power of i7 and proper dedicated graphic chip.
This was a great video! I got the laptop and hope to make more videos and actually be consistent because the power can run with the 4K Quality! Super helpful.

This looks like the exact Laptop I was looking for as my next daily driver: Portable, powerful and capable of some casual gaming. But: I just discovered a HP Pavillion 14 inch laptop that checks all the same boxes when it comes to pure specs, but at only around half the price. So right now I'm back to making up my mind... ^^
The HP Spectre is very good for the price 9th gen and a new updated 15 inch model is coming out with 10th gen however I have one that has the 9th Gen and Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q and it works well I can play most games at high to ultra settings at 1080p and run a few games at 4K. And when it comes to video editing it's great. The design and build quality of the laptop really convinced me and the fans spin up but it does not get super loud. Also with the newer models the thermals are improved. The keyboard does not get very warm just the back of the laptop but that is expected overall when it comes to heat the bottom of the laptop gets warm when gaming/video editing for a long time but even after awhile it still doesn't become unbearable. Also I'm not sure if the MSI has it but the Spectre has windows hello and a fingerprint sensor and it can charge with USB-C I got it for cheap during black Friday and recommend when buying this laptop look for a sale or discount of some sort.
Please please please dont buy any hp laptops with the word pavilion in it the user experience is the worse you can get in a laptop....i have one and it sucks
@Pietro Figura yeah the 15" model has 2 cooling fans and longer battery life. However it actually costs more ( just around $30 CAD) here. I've read several posts on reddit and have decided to get the prestige 15 next week. Still I think it's worth mentioning that I'm planning on undervolting it a little bit to avoid that thermal issue.
