    Your video reviews are the very best on TH-cam, IMO.
    I hope you keep making reviews of these "content creator" laptops, since I believe they are potentially interesting for many more people than pure gaming laptops, due to size, weight, heat, battery... Even more so nowadays, with Thunderbolt 3 and e-GPUs that can make these machines very competent gaming laptops. Zenbooks, Spectres, Thinkpads... come to mind.

    • @AMGF815

      Lýn I see where you’re coming from. I bought the first XPS 15 infinity edge model, the 9550 at the end of 2015. Since then I’ve had 3 XPS 15 models. The Prestige 15vis my first experience with MSI. Right now I am testing it and the LG Gram 17 2020 version. One thing I don’t like about both of them compared to my XPS 15 7590, is the lack of edge-to-edge glass. Edge-to-edge glass just looks more premium/modern. The MSI Prestige in my opinion, does look very good and is almost a pound lighter than my XPS 15 and just over half pound heavier than the LG Gram 17.
      Because I’ve been using XPS 15’s for over 4-years now, I am VERY tired of the design and the design elements I always hated, I hate just as much still. The deck of the XPS gets very oily, very fast. The coating of the keys and touch pad, also get very grubby, very fast. No matter how often I clean the deck, touch pad and keyboard, they always go right back to looking dirty in the right light angles.
      Dell is due to release an all new design soon unless Coronavirus has halted their plans. I am very excited and can’t wait to see it. Supposedly they will have a 15 and 17 XPS sometime this year, hopefully with the same design cues as the new XPS 13.
      I love the Gram but just wish it had dGPU, edge-to-edge glass and just a little more firmness behind the display. As it is, the rear of the display pushes inward insanely easily as if made out of cardboard. I understand the whole magnesium alloy thing and I know that the laptop can handle drops, flexing and bending right back to form without cracking but flimsiness is like nothing else I’ve ever touched.

      @@JarrodsTech it is still being delivered. What I like about that MSI, it is actually lighter than Dell XPS and has much better power (RTX 2060) and better cooling solution. I have read a lot of forums on how people improve Dell XPS 15 with repasting, underbolting, attaching extra cooling units on different parts of the hardware inside, e.t.c. Why do I need all these games for $1400? Just for build quality? No, thanks.

    • @AMGF815
      @AMGF815 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can wait, you might want to do so. Have you seen the 2020 XPS 13? Based on everything I've read, including that Dell laptop roadmap that leaked last year - there is no way Dell does not update the XPS 15 with a design much like the new XPS 13. According to the roadmap, we should see an XPS 17 later this year. My guess (and wish) is that we will 100% surely see an all-new XPS 15 or 16 and or 17, very soon. Whatever the case, it will have thinners bezels, most of all the bottom bezel, just like the new XPS 13. It would make no sense to ask consumers to buy into a new XPS 15+ that costs a lot more, has a lot more power yet doesn't have an updated design as good as the XPS 13.
      My only concern is the WHEN part. Sometime in 2020 but when in 2020 is the question. We have new Intel chips coming later this year so maybe Dell will wait on those. Coronavirus is making issues for the production of chips and hardware so who knows what kind of delays that will bring. If you don't mind buying now and then taking a loss selling it when the new machines come out - then go for it now.
      For me, I am tired of the XPS design. I have had 3 versions of this design, starting with the first XPS 15 9550. I'm tired of the sandwich body and rubbery deck that picks up too much finger oil. Regardless, the XPS is still the thinnish and lightish premium ultrabook to beat. Not much comes close. So much so that I am probably going to ditch my XPS 15 for the new LG gram 17 and use it until the next XPS comes along. The LG gram 17 is so unique that I could see myself keeping it as a 2nd laptop when the new XPS comes out. Right now Costco has it for $1500 and the MSI Prestige (4K, 1TB SSD + 32GB RAM) for $1700.

I've had issues with it in the past but I find it to be a solid machine with surprising performance (although unfortunately it does heat up a lot) . I feel like dell might have resolved a lot of issues with the new one. I'm also not 100% sure about Dell customer support (although I don't know what MSI is like as I've never dealt with them).

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah fair enough, the build is definitely nicer. This one got hot for the first few mins, but it caps the power limit to avoid this, so cooler at the expense of performing less. Hmm hard to answer, I guess that's more of a CPU workload so maybe the Prestige 15 with the 4K panel, but for that I would assume better screen would be the priority, so probably Dell with OLED.

    • @mikecotton-russell9401
      @mikecotton-russell9401 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JarrodsTech Awesome thanks for the response. When it comes to capping the GPU to improve cooling you're talking about heavy work loads such as rendering? or does it slow most processes down? and I'm guessing its not a huge performance dip in the GPU, I imagine its more of a case that it just doesn't use the GPU chip to its max potential.
      Would a cooling pad help improve thermals and GPU performance. I'm not too worried about getting an OLED panel as I use mainly my Cintiq monitor.

As for choosing which one to get, I think that a smaller weight and IPS screen(I'm not sure how well my eyes would feel looking at OLED for 10 hours a day) is in priority for me than better performance. I had the chance to "own" both of the laptops. First I got the MSI prestige 15, which I then returned and got the xps 15 (I ended up liking it more)
    Dell - pros
    Display brightness (1080p)
    Build quality
    Support (drivers, updates)
    Comfortable soft carbon fiber finish
    Very sturdy chassis, very little screen flex
    Dell - cons
    Single nvme slot
    Single USB C port
    Msi - pros
    u series cpu (but 6 cores)
    Extra nvme slot
    Usb c charging
    Lighter
    Smaller chin (below display)
    Maybe better cooling?
    Msi - cons
    The hinge seemed very weak, looked like cheap plastic
    Worse screen flex than xps
    When pushing on the deck (even resting my arms below the keyboard), I was unable to click on the touchpad - very irritating (the reason I returned the laptop)
    Wobbly USB C connection

      I've been mulling over my new laptop purchase for a few months now. I'm almost settled on the MSI Prestige 15 ONLY because of the two thunderbolt 3 ports (which support charging) and two m.2 slots.

    • @GFTryBest
      @GFTryBest 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't work like what Hype'd said. It is pure crap to me how he can misinform everyone. The m.2 slot works at x2 because the NVMe Drive itself is a WD SN520 and it is capped as a x2 bus instead of x4.
      CPU itself in this case Comet Lake, has x16 lanes of PCI-e 3.0, which can be configed x4 + x4 for 2-TB port, x4 for GTX1650 Max-Q, and the last x4 is allocated for the m.2 PCI-e 3.0 direct bus to CPU.
      With the 2nd m.2 slot, it is SATA/PCI-e 3.0 x4 combo, it is then allocated from PCH (used to be called South Bridge). This PCH itself has x14 lanes of PCI-e 3.0, communicate by a x4-lane PCI-e 3.0 (OPI) to the CPU. Other miscellaneous chipset will ultilize this PCH for configuration such as Wifi, SD Card Reader.
      x4 or x2 to be doesn't matter much, since you rarely copy that big of a file, or even then after 100GB or so, speed will be limited to

    • @hyped5723

    It's really interesting the tricks MSI pulled to get this level of CPU performance. If you go to Intel ARK and look at the specifications of the i7-10710U, you'll find that it's rated for 15W with a configurable TDPup of merely 25W. On the P15 though, if you are plugged in and have performance mode selected, you can actually run the CPU at a whopping 45-50W sustained, which is just incredible. Not sure how much binning MSI had to do to ensure stability. I am able to hit 3.9G on all 6 cores with a 100mV undervolt. So in some sense this "U" postfix is a bit misleading really, especially given that it's a 10th gen. 6c12t chip. I'm not surprised at all that it absolutely smashed the 9th gen. 4c8t H chip in performance.

    There are some things I wish you would have included in your review. The MSI looks great in all the press photos but there are some really annoying cosmetic issues that don't get talked about very often. The entire hinge housing is plastic. The rear sections where the vents are - look very cheap. Add insult to injury, the color of that cheap plastic hinge housing is a different color than the rest of the unit. I just don't understand how they let that pass. The guys who started MSI, used to be part of Vaio when Sony owned it. Yes, well it did when I tested it for the review, haven't had it since, but also no reason to believe it would have changed so soon.

    Photo editing and 4k Video editing is what I mainly do with occasionally playing a game such as COD.

      I guess as I don't actually measure temps on the bottom under load I can't really answer. Generally that's less recommended due to legs blocking air intakes. For that money I'd get OLED, so probably the Aero 15 fur to better specs than the xps
