Logitech FINALLY Go Direct Drive! | PRO Wheel & Pedals Review

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 20 ก.ย. 2022
  • It’s been a long time coming, but Logitech has finally moved on from gear-based force feedback and fully embraced direct drive technology, thanks to the Logitech G Pro wheelbase.
Featuring 11Nm of torque - a significant upgrade on the 8Nm of Fanatec’s CSL DD with Boost Kit - the Logitech G Pro offers several new features not seen on the Swiss company’s previous sim racing wheel efforts - including the G29 and G923.
For example, for the first time ever Logitech offers a quick release system - hinting at future multiple wheelrim options - with the standard Pro wheelrim boasting two jog wheels and a plethora of buttons. The new model also features on-the-fly wheelbase adjustments, so settings can be changed mid-race.
The rim also comes with two analogue clutch paddles (as well as the standard flappy gear-changing paddles), which can be used as an accelerator/brake axis, making it an inclusive option for disabled or young sim racers.
In addition to the new wheel, Logitech is offering a new pedal option - the Logitech Pro Racing Pedals - which for the first time in Logitech’s history come with a load cell brake as standard.
However, costing a combined £1,348, do the Logitech G Pro wheelbase and Pro Racing Pedals gain pass marks from Rich? Does it compete with other entry-level direct drive options from Fanatec and Moza?

one thing to note about the plastic construction; the motor is attached to a steel plate, and that plate is either bolted to your rig or table, the plastic just surrounds the rest of the electronics / provides for air cooling

As a sim racer & wheelchair user, I really appreciate the design choices here. Quick-release wheel makes context-switching of my desk easier; gradient paddles are excellent (currently I’m mapping a TrackIR to a custom vJoy config - head pitch up for accel, down for brake); separate pedals help (I’ll never use them); but my personal favourite is the centre-mounted desk clamp: I have bruises on my knees from whacking the clamp knobs under each side of my G29, & the single central clamp will mitigate that. Love it! If Logi wants to send me one I’ll put it to much use 😁

I agree that it's better to run the motor at 50% than at 90-100% of its maximum output. It should at the very least allow it to run cooler and last longer, while hitting those power values with less strain on the motor.

You actually want the 11nm. You just set the force feedback to a strength you like then the extra headroom is nice for other setting such as when you crash or run over rumble strips. Personally, I think the majority of the racing sim crowd would not want 5nm max for sure...8 maybe but without that extra headroom the other vibration etc... effects are also limited. My Fanatec DD2 makes 25nm of torque, I only run it at about 30-40% force feedback on the base and maybe 60-70% in the game and it is amazing the detail it outputs if dialed in properly. In short you can turn down the FFB to less than peak torque but you can't turn up past peak if it's lacking.

I believe as far as headroom for torque of the wheel, it’s about the quality of feel rather than strength. 5-6 nm on an 11nm when will feel much better and it will be more reliable as you’re not driving the wheel at max all the time. The quality is increased as the motor driving the wheel is able to provide these movements while producing less heat, therefore allowing for more reliable and scale-able feeling throughout the torque curve of the wheel, and the ability for high torque situations to be able to be felt on the wheel, instead of capping out.

The main problem I had with the G29 was the pedals are not as good as what was in the G27. (the throw range for the brake was shorter and was very stiff) so I just used my old G27 pedals on the G29. With this pro version where you can change the springs for the pedals? thats pretty cool. Adjust it to your preference. (hopefully there is enuf springs included for each pedal tho)
However I wonder if you can adjust the throw/range on the pedals also.
Still main thing for me with this new logitech wheel is the direct drive. About damn time.

So I have a Sim Experience wheel and the NM is not so much about how powerful the wheel is as it is the definition of what you are feeling. When you turn the feedback down you should still get the definition (curbs, rumble strips thing like that).so the more powerful the motor the more signal it can handle. You would really never run a a big motor like this all the way up in a race as your arms and hands would wear out before you even finish a race.So an example of what I am talking about is when you are in the high banks at Daytona with a G27 all you would feel is just a constant force. With a direct drive you will feel the repair patch in the track as long as the program is capable of it.The wheel doesn't get overloaded because of the tiny motor like what's in the G27 or 29 or whatever #their up too now.I am interested in the diameter of the wheel for that price point it better be a full size wheel like in a real gt race car.At that price your options are pretty wide and really need to do your research before you buy.

I have G29 wheel and pedals/ TH8A shifter/add on shifter that I use for ATS which I do love. But I would love see Logitech come out with larger wheel that’s more geared for trucks/Big Rigs. I’d love to see that :). ( Like Peterbilt/Kenworth like theme big rig wheel).
Good video. Would love have a Pro model but, currently the old wheels here in Canada are WAY over priced. I bet this pro wheel be close $600-700 Canadian and that without pedals? ouch.
Ps. Why hasn’t Logitech made a “Forced” feed back gear shifter??? We have force feed back wheels. Why has Nobody made force feedback shifter?

No no idea. You’ll have send support ticket to which ever wheel and pedals you have too see what can be done.
