    I felt this was super out of touch with the average person getting into sim racing. No human should be spending this much money on something unless they are 100% confident they're going to be deep into the hobby, or budget isn't an issue.
    Personally for anyone looking to 'get started' in 2024. Go onto marketplace, and pick up a used g27 or g29 rig for less than $150. Gives you time to confirm you enjoy and offers a bloody brilliant value for money proposition. Once you're stuck in, then you can think about spending $700+ on something you know you'll love if it's in your budget.

      I think this is a good video for your 2nd sim setup. Used G27, G29, driving force gt, to start for sure.
      That said, if you already have experience sim racing (say at a friend's house) and are sure you want to continue with the hobby, I do think you should skip the G27 and go for a $7-800 setup.
      I had a G27 for years, and recently upgraded to an alpha mini and simjack pro pedals. The difference is huge and I wish I would've made the upgrade much sooner. You can probably be just as fast with a G27, but a dd wheel and load cell pedals makes for a much better feel, more akin to driving a real car.

    • @ThomasHOL
      @ThomasHOL 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I do agree that if you have never raced anything this is quite high spending when you can start with a G29 strappede to your desktop so you get a feel for how it is racing. also i feel that he is disregarding the Moza R5 bundle. In my country its only about 120$ more expensive and there is night and day difference in those sets.
      Personally i'm disregarding my own advice a bit. 20 years i had a stearin wheel for racing it was without force feedback or anything else. but it was hard getting it to work and having to set it up and take down all the time ment that i didn't use i to much. But ever since that time i have wanted a dedicated rig and every time i had the opportunity to jump in one i did. Now my oldest kid have moved away from home and i finally have the space to build a setup. So i'm going to buy a cockpit, find a 50+ tv to put on the wall and then go for a Moza R5 set. Yes i dont know if im going to use it as much as i hope but i have to give it a go.

    • @Driver_1227
      @Driver_1227 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I couldn't agree more. I started with the G29 cause I wanted a wheel that I could use on my PC and PlayStation5. Now that I'm hooked I'm looking at these more expensive upgrades. Tho my big game of choice is American Trucking Sim. the one of choice for me is gonna be the Moza for the fact they offer a truck wheel. And they have a packaged deal for $689. I'll just have to pick up the truck wheel later down the road. No pun intended lol. But yeah get a cheaper wheel to make sure you're gonna spend some actual time using it otherwise it could turn into money wasted in the corner of your space.

    • @Erowens98
      @Erowens98 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, something like a used T300, with t3pa pedals. Clamped to your desk, or if you want, bolted to a cheap and dirty 2x4 custom rig (those cost like 40$ and an evening of work) and a junkyard car seat. If you want an H-pattern coupled with an SHH newt. You're talking less than the cost of just the motor for the direct drive offerings. And are gonna have plenty of fun. You can then upgrade later when you get a better idea of what your looking for.
      Personally id avoid G27/G29 because they're less powerful and less smooth than the t300 and on the used market, at least where i live, usually around the same price.

    Note :- The title might suggest it but this video is not recommended for beginners who are unsure if sim racing is their hobby or not. This video felt super out of touch from reality of an average person thinking about starting sim racing. Get a second hand g29/g920 or other options in that price range and if your budget allows T300 rs Gt for PS5 as it will be far more cheaper and will give you a great entry point into sim racing. Also, some of my friends who compete on top levels still use g29 with upgraded load cell for brake pedals. Spending $1000 on a hobby you are not sure about isn't smart in any way.

      Yea upgrading your sim setup doesn’t necessarily make you faster and that shoudn’t be the reason to upgrade. Like you mentioned, also with a G29 you can make it to the top of the leaderboard. I would upgrade from my G29 purely for the experience and extra enjoyment of simracing.

      Yes, I went Alpha Mini. It uses 18bit high resolution encoders for a start which achieve 264K, not the 15bit medium resolution encoders you get with the R5, R9 and R12 which make only 32K. This results in NO cogging when you turn the wheel on the Mini and is really smooth plus stronger ffb than the others mentioned. I also use it with the GT Neo wheel and VRS pedals. I think its important to consider yes the simagic alpha mini is more expensive the the moza r9 or the fanatec csl DD, but it also is a more powerful base. The moza r9 has a peak of 9nm, the csl DD is 5 nm or 8 nm with the boost kit, but the simagic alpha mini is 10nm, and thats sustained torque not peak. For the price of $539 to get 10 nm sustained is a good deal. (Also their pedals are some of the best in the business too, you just review the p1000 pedals)

      Plus the new neo wheel is on par in price with the moza and fanatec wheels you suggested and arguably an upgrade in quality. I love my mini. Sustained would probably work out to around 12 to 13 peak, which is actually significant. Also, with Fanatec, if you want to use a 3rd party wheel and get force feedback, you need to purchase a quick release AND a $150 podium hub, only need a qr with the other 2 products.

    This is a very niche scenario, but if you're gaming on Linux, the CSL DD has community drivers that work really well, I am currently using these drivers as I fully switched to Linux. I used my CSL DD on a dual booted Windows a few months ago so I can compare, and it feels exactly the same with community drivers on Linux. As far as direct drive wheels go, I think Moza doesn't really work under Linux so if that's your use case, consider going with the CSL DD.
    ACC works well, I am having fun on LFM with it on Linux. AMS2 works great as well, so does rFactor 2. iRacing TECHNICALLY can work well, but the anticheat blocks the ability to play iRacing. I will be trying to reach out to the team as recently they switched to a new AC and for like a week it was possible to run iRacing on Linux but they patched something and now it kicks you as soon as you join a session.

    I've used the Moza HGP before, and it was nothing but issues. It would need constant re-calibrating due to going from neutral into 4th gear not working, and constantly losing it's place where shifting into 1st gear would put you in 3rd gear.
    I heard that fanatec's shifter has the same issue.
    Simagic' H-shifter, on the other hand, has worked perfectly fine since I got it. If you want a more reliable H-shifter that won't need constant fixing, go for that instead. Its more than double the price of Moza but 100% worth it.

    As a Fanatec user, I'd personally recommend staying away from the P1 V2 as the material on it feels very cheap since it's made out of rubber of some kind, I put nearly 200hrs into it before I noticed even a minimal amount of wear so it is sturdy. However, if you'd like a wheel that you'll actually enjoy driving with then I'd recommend the Clubsport Steering Wheel RS. It is $300 so a little over twice as much as the P1, however you will easily enjoy it more and get more use out of it

    I respect this guy's opinion immensely, but I have to disagree on the wheelbase. If you can afford the extra cash spend it here and go with the alpha mini. He says it's no much of an upgrade but with the 5-pole servo motor and higher bit rate encoder I genuinely think it's more than worth the ~$100

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey I appreciate it. Looking at the specs the Alpha mini is better, as you mentioned. However, I’ve found that in-game, apart from feeling a bit more powerful at its highest FFB setting, the detail and overall feedback is very very similar. To some, that added torque may be worth the extra price and that’s totally fair. However, when you also take into account that simagic’s wheels are also (for the most part) more expensive than most of Fanatec’s or Moza’s, it begins to turn the tables a bit. Furthermore, Fanatec has integrated Xbox compatibility on many wheels thus allowing the CSL DD to work on that console and Moza is beginning to do the same - two other factors I took into consideration and thus came up with my final recommendation. Overall, these recommendations are great. I use an R9/ES Steering Wheel on my desk, and I can say that I probably would have put the ES Steering wheel as the pick for MOZA. While the wheel is smaller, you can buy a 12-in wheel mod from the website for $80 dollars, which would total $210, being cheaper than the CS V2P. I also do a lot of formula racing and it also comes with a formula wheel mod so you get a 2 in 1 and don't have to swap out.

    So your video suggest the entry point is +/- 2k$ + PC + Monitor or VR. ? I would say it would be nice to have a video about the lowest entry cost set-up worth putting together as in force-feedback wheel, cell brake pedal, simple steering wheel, VR headset.
    Why VR you say? Immensely cheaper than a 3 monitor setup, much more enjoyable experience, much less real estate needed, Often comes with speakers and microphone, no need for fancy looking gear as you are not seeing them with the VR on.

    bought the R3 as soon as Moza re released it, unfortunately a plastic inside the USB port in the Wheel Base and ive been going back and forth with Moza for 2 months on trying to get a fix. It took them a month to send me a new motherboard and even sent me a video on how to replace it. Problem was that the wheel base they used to show me how to switch out the motherboard in the wheel base was completely different to the R3 and did not tell me i needed wire soldering tools. So now we opted to send me a shipping label to send back my bundle and when they receive it they'll send me a new R3 bundle. I genuinely have no words, i thought customer service wasn't that bad at Moza but the really slow email replies and that whole wrong wheel base being used to show me how to replace a motherboard thing was just annoying. In the video they sent it as all just unscrew the old and screw back on the new. But there was a gold peice in the R3 that was NOT in the video they sent and it was a grey peice. said peice was keeping me from completing the switch. Im getting tired of this I just want to use my wheel lol

    From someone who lives in Canada and plays on console (PS5), a tip of advice for other Canadians, you're much better off getting the Logitech G Pro DD wheel instead of the Fanatec ones. While the ecosystem is definitely better, if you're like me and don't really care about having 2-3 different wheels and all the other accessories, then it's perfectly fine. Logitech also said that more offerings are going to be available in the future and the Logitech G Hub software on PC recently got updated with notes that included support for a future ecosystem, so it may be coming soon.
    The base itself is more powerful than the cheapest Fanatec bundles, even when combined with the Pro Pedals. Fanatec doesn't sell the 5NM version by itself, it forces you to get the more expensive 8NM version if you just want the wheel base, and then you still have to get a rim and pedals. The bundle isn't that great either since the pedals it offers is legitimate dogshit and you WILL most likely upgrade to a load cell anyways.
    and the MOST important thing is that Logitech has free shipping to Canada. Fanatec is notoriously bad with shipping costs and mis-marking the quantity of what you bought so whenever it reaches Canadian Customs, they make you pay a SHIT TON of duty and taxes on it, raising the price to insane levels.

I've got mine for 1,5 hear now and everything is still working exactly as it should with no problem at all. Longetivity and sturdiness of it is really great and I cannot recommend it enough, specially for a price (€109). I see many people talking about this video not being budget friendly so I would like to do my own take on this, yes, this video shares many products that are expensive and for many people starting out, it might seem that it is just stupid to spend this much money trying something new. But like he said in the beginning, this is his own personal list.
    As someone who started on a g29 and worked my way up to a fantec 8nm wheel, i can see why he would say to go right to a expensive fanatec wheel, the g29 I started on is around 250 dollars with discounts. This wheel is ok but nothing like real simracing, yes a g29 can give you a great starting point and you can be very fast on a g29, just a higher NM wheel feels more realistic and different, also the g29 being made of plastic and a very small wheel doesnt help... Also the fanatec csl dd 5 nm can be upgraded with a powercord on amazon for 55 bucks to the 8nm version and also the ready to race bundle gets you a great deal for a direct drive base, wheel and pedals for 400 ish.
    And yes, he talks about many other expensive add-ons like a shifter or a cockpit, but depending on what driving you do, I never use a shifter unless im drifting or rally driving, and i built a cockpit with a bunch of 2x4's and a beach chair.
    This hobby might not be for everyone, I personally love it because I love cars and its a way to race cars without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars. I would say don't buy if you dont like racing or cars but if you watch some sort of racing or know cars somewhat go for it, also the 2nt market is strong for wheels, so if you use it once and never use it again, sell it.

You can go cheaper for sure but its still going to be a few hundred dollars and there is real benefits to going up to that 500~ mark aka direct drive with real torque and a load cell brake.
    Id start by looking on marketplace and try and find a deal but a lot of this stuff is solid and holds its value.

    I notice a lot of reviews mention how things look which I'm sure some people care about but most shopping at lower price points like me probably don't care about looks especially for things you don't really see like the pedals but I guess it could be important for streamers/content creators. I just know that companies listen to reviews and such and sometimes they focus on the wrong thing when trying to create a new product or improve an existing one. Would be a shame if they sacrifice a bit of efficiency in order to make something look nicer or raise the price point.
    Note: i know this matters to some I'm just not among them
