  • Ken Ham and his team have a weekly "news" show, reacting to the news stories of the day from a Christian young-earth creation perspective from the Answers in Genesis staff at his Creation Museum.
    I join Avery, Georgia, Roger and Bodie as they discuss - US Christianity declines; World Christianity rises; Dawkins supports religion and more during Answers News, broadcast live from the Creation Museum.

    When Dawkins seemingly endorses religious morality, an honest person would provide full context. This group of charlatans blatantly pounces on an opportunity to wholly misrepresent his thoughts.

    • @broddr
      @broddr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Snake Man448 -- the Christian panel speaks as though atheists and Christians are separate species. Obviously we are all humans, so a Venn diagram of what atheists consider moral behaviors and what Christians consider moral behaviors would have a huge overlap. It's just a bizarre form of confirmation bias that they all assume that moral behavior can only come from the direction of a god.

    • @broddr
      @broddr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Skeptic Psychologist -- true, but you have overlooked "muh feelings" as "evidence". I think that's why nations with the best science education have the lowest religiosity (and vice versa). Well educated people understand the difference between repeatable evidence and mere religious claims.

      Quote-mining is the lyingest, sack-of-shittiest misrepresentation you can do. You have to actively ignore some of what you have read/seen in order to deliberately fashion a lie. Once again, AIG doesn’t understand the law or legal history or even history. Scopes was prosecuted under a Tennessee law that forbade the teaching of evolution. Setting aside whether that means that a bunch of other states were teaching the science (they were), the law meant that evolution wasn’t on trial. In fact, the idea to put the science on trial was the defense’s, and the ACLU had supported Scopes as a test case for that reason. However, the judge ruled that the issue in the case was whether Scopes had taught evolution, as prohibited by the law, and not whether the science was correct. Consequently, he excluded all the defense witnesses as irrelevant and no testimony on the subject was admitted. What was admitted was examination and cross-examination of William Jennings Bryant as an expert on the Bible. (This is highly irregular, btw. Calling opposing counsel is generally not allowed.) The prosecution won not because evolution lost, but because, well, there was testimony that Scopes had violated the law by teaching the material and it was pretty much a slam dunk. That was fine with the Defense, because they were planning to appeal and win there. However, the judge fined Scopes $100, and under Tennessee law in 1925, all fines of more than $50 had to be recommended by a jury. So the conviction was thrown out and Scopes had moved (I believe), so the State never refilled the case.
    Anyway, the conclusion that Scopes changed anything about the legal landscape or tested the legal position of the science shows an utter failure to check the facts or understand the legal issues in the case. I’m pretty sure all this is on Wikipedia.

    • @tweetdriver

      Thank you. I was about to point out the Scopes trial wasn’t about evolution, but about the constitutionality of that Tennessee law.

      Australia ranks as the most secular-rational nation in the English-speaking/Anglo world: www.worldvaluessurvey.org/images/Culture_Map_2017_conclusive.png
      This is from the World Values Survey. This is the goto source for academics, politicians, etc.
      They don't measure just secularism and the only have definitions for traditional values. "Traditional values emphasize the importance of religion, parent-child ties, deference to authority, absolute standards and traditional family values. People who embrace these values also reject divorce, abortion, euthanasia and suicide. Societies that embrace these values have high levels of national pride and a nationalistic outlook."
      As shown in this video, 80% of the people in India consider religion important, while ranking as more secular-rational than the USA. Granted, all religions and religious expressions aren't equal. Around 80% of the population in India believe in evolution, which is less than 50% in the USA. Evolution doesn't contradict Indian religions/philosophies. In fact, only one of the 9 Indian religions/philosophies has a place for God in it. The others are athestic.

      It wasn't exactly what we would today call a tipping point, but it was a pretty big deal. It didn't set legal precedent, but it catapulted the issue into the marketplace of ideas. The stage play and, later, the movie, 'Inherit the Wind' probably had a bigger influence. BTW, there are a number of good books on the triral, and a commom point of agreement is that the town fathers got together and did it as a publicty stunt.

    As data shows, with the drop in the importance of religion in almost a century, so have the deaths in armed conflicts dropped. Look at how terrible it was with the world wars, and how peaceful it is now. *Clearly* less religion has made the world peaceful!

    ugh. Gordon Conwell, My wife had started getting classes thru Gordon Conwell thru her local church. The church had an agreement with Gordon Conwell to send their "Teachers" to the church for about a period of 2 years. The Church would pay for the classes until they "graduated" and then the person would have to pay the church back.
    My wife had just started her 1st semester when we met, and that's all she did. unfortunately, she still had to pay back that loan. not a big amount but I'm sure the church made money off it as well.

    7:41 anyone else annoyed at the blatant trick they tried to pull here.
    When they switch studies all they say is that they are going onto the next article which would imply that they are still using the same source but just another article from that source (especially when they made such a big deal about the source at the beginning and specifically named the source) but instead they are stealthily switching from a highly reputable neutral source to a biased questionable source.
    Anyone who is just listening to them and not actively watching (for example if they are working, driving, cleaning, ect...) would think both articles are from the reputable first source and wouldn't even know that the sources switched.

    I can guarantee you that if I had remained a believer I would be dead or in jail for life 25 years ago. Repenting is powerful for someone like me I was a psychopath as a believer but when I stopped believing I was downgraded to a sociopath. You see psychopaths have no care or empathy for others with the ability to repent I could do anything and know I would go to heaven. A sociopath has the capacity of very limited empathy which is what I have now but it wasn't just becoming an atheist that changed me. The empathy I have is a result of atheism and my late wife. She was my soulmate I think I loved her, I know I respected her. 4 years ago when I was 43 I woke up holding her corpse in my arms. When I discovered she was terminally ill for unknown reasons I felt something for the first time I mean I really felt something inexplicable. I later learned that was empathy and it really cemented itself after she died in her sleep in our bed. There is much emotion I don't understand like remorse and guilt among them.
    I certainly don't know if I feel love no one can tell me what it should feel like.

    When I was growing, going to school, I was a Hindu. It was the predominant re-legion, with some Muslims. No Christians, no churches around, only temples and one mosque. No re-legion was taught at school, our "spiritual and cultural needs" were met at home or in the community. when I heard this argument that, not just any re-legion, but Christianity in particular, must be taught in schools, I was shocked! God, and by extent, Re-legion, is personal, and therefore needs to be sought personally, that's why there are churches and other places, so people can seek that there. In the natural world, let natural things be learned.
    These people at AIG don't give any answers, at! What they are providing are stumbling blocks for acquiring knowledge, and proud of it. It's disturbing.
    At 10:25 I've never felt that way. Ive never thought, "oh, if I just didn't believe in God, I could......." And anyway, what does "do whatever you want" mean? Nah, I don't agree with Eric. Some of us are just not that way inclined. It's not a belief stopping me being nasty or something, no, it's just not something I want to be or do, and I keep it that way.
