    That was a very thorough presentation. Commercially, I think winspace has done the right thing in sticking with rim. I'm not sure that disc will take off. A bit like tubeless hasn't taken over

      I ride rimbrakes with tubes since I try to spend not too much money on cycling.
      But most people I know who buy new bikes get disc brakes. Everyone I know still rides tubes but it feels like every person I watch on yt/instagram has been riding tubeless for ages..

    Hell Yeah Joe!!! Love the wheels, anmd the quality is great. We have probably sold a good 20 pairs of the hyper wheels and I can honestly say from those 20 sets there have been no issues and the customers are always happy for what they are getting at the price they are paying. Makes my job easy lol. Very informative Video as always!!

    The only opportunity missed with the new Hypers is the following… improved brake track for rim versions and the option to have standard quality wheel bearings such as NTN, SKF etc. as all solid riders will still have to swap out after 3-4k. Perhaps you could offer custom options such as Farsports, this would be great! Solid presentation though and all the best! I’m still rocking my original 50’s and can only praise the customer support of Winspace. 👍

    Ordered the D45’s on July 1st, launch day, and received them yesterday July 26th (USA).
    Swapped out my stock 42mm SLR1 carbon wheelset from my 2019 Giant TCR Advanced Pro 0 and went for a 25 mile ride with both flats and hills with some wind. First impressions are good, I really like the wheels! Power transfer is better, stiffer, yet a more compliant comfortable feel over bumps (I’m on tubed 25mm Conti GP5000). Kinda weird to have both at the same time, maybe the wider rims or the carbon spokes make it more comfortable? They are about 140 grams lighter than my old wheels and they feel faster, lighter and more nimble. They climb better. More responsive. Cross winds aren't as twitchy. I'm very happy with them and can’t wait to get them on this Saturday’s fast group ride!

    In regard to running rim brakes on ultra wide wheels, Tririg makes a fantastic aero brake caliper, called the Omega One. This caliper works fine on my 78mm Aerocoach Zephyr wheels which have a 26.7mm rim width. I’m able to use this brake with the pads backed out all the way, but without needing to shave off the pads. In my opinion, these rim brake calipers would pair well with these new Winspace wheels.

    Joe, please think about making high quality groupset that can rival shimano, sram, and campagnolo that is much cheaper, just like what you guys dis with those wheels. We need another main player in the groupset industry that is reliable and doesn't break the bank. The industry is moving toward disc brakes, so it might be a good move to make a high end light enough groupset that still offer rim brakes to rival the main players and also to preserve rim brakes for the next generation of bikes.

    Winspace is a bit like Yoeleo - they do not manufature 28-30c tyre oriented wheel. All of their wheels have a narrow external width oriented at 25c tyres from aerodynamic perspective. Would be good to see a 30-32mm external width rim and deep section, not shallow like their Gravel rim. Something similar to LB WR50 maybe? Thanks

      @ChinaCycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not an engineer, and wasn't in all the meetings about it, but I think it was something to do with the way the filament wound construction means that you don't wanna be taking chunks out of the braking surface. The other way is the put the textured brake surface into the mold (like Zipp) but I believe SRAM have the patent on that. Again: Not an engineer and wasn't in all the meetings about it.

  • @daryloya
    @daryloya ปีที่แล้ว

    Was the rubbing spoke issue addressed? Hambini doesn't like your ceramic bearings. Did you consider changing to high quality steel bearings? I had an idea about using a relatively larger rim depth in front since the rear doesn't add as aerodynamic efficiency as the front. I think Peak Torque tried that in a video. Can you buy a larger front, smaller rear?
    Thanks

    • @ChinaCycling
      @ChinaCycling  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The drive spokes no longer touch so they won't rub. Hambini doesn't like lots of thins, lol. 😂 Probably doesn't like his own mother. We're still experimenting with different bearing setups internally. In theory a deep wheel on the front and a shallow on the back is the fastest setup for a ~5% climb or so.

    9:21 Joe talks about the increase in rim width at brake track. At 28.6mm, it's starting to get really tight for BB-direct mount Shimano brake calipers.
    Just want to mention that the *Ascent Polaris* wheel, the 69mm depth, the rim width at brake track is *31mm*.
    They mentioned that they have tested with Shimano's standard mount calipers (the single bolt ones) and it works.
    And they ALSO mentioned that Shimano's *"Direct-mount is harder but doable if you rearrange the washers - we cannot officially say that it works"* (quoted directly from a previous comment by Ascent)

    • @ChinaCycling
      @ChinaCycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I rearranged the washers and the brake pads have been used before so missing a few mm. I have 2mm clearance either side of the rim.

      It all comes down to the grease's NLGI number and how much of it is on the mechanism. Where I work, we always regrease them with one of a low NLGI number (to minimise friction) and not too much of it (otherwise the pawls may slip), so they don't sound quiet.

    I am looking in the 2023 model to bring myself in the carbon wheels space. I see the spare carbon spokes, I am worried. Why would I need spare spokes? Is it because they are prone to brake or they are of proprietary design?
    Also, should spokes be changed after some miles or years?

    • @ChinaCycling

      99.9% of people won't use the spare spokes, but it's just to put your mind at ease.

      No spoke is indestructible. You'll never know when a tree branch will go between your spokes and break one or a few of them, that's why each wheelset has a spare spoke for each spoke length.
      And yes, they're of a proprietary design.
