    Hey, First of all - thanks for the review and thanks for your custom. We also know it takes time to make a video, so, we appreciate your time to make this video and share your feedback. We love all feedback, positive or otherwise. We firmly believe there's no perfect product on the market, so anything we can do to make ours a little bit closer to perfection - we will! Thought I'd take a quick moment to address some of your issues though. The QR skewers: The ones we supply are pretty beefy. It'sThey're designed to apply the maximum clamping load with the least effort. Our hubs rely on the QR or Thru-Axle clamping to pre-load the bearings and some people can't get the clamping force needed on skinny lightweight QR skewers. As for your twisting spokes, as you said you already contacted our support department. I am curious what pressure you're running in those 25mm Schwalbes though? Going too high with tire pressure could be related. Keep an eye on it, and if they keep twisting, you can contact our support department again. Regarding the aerodynamics, we may have to agree to disagree on this one. 🤐 The data says the wheels are pretty darn fast. Anecdotal experiences may vary, but... hey - that's the joy of the internet, there's no shortage of people's individual experiences. In summary, we're not hating. We genuinely do appreciate feedback in all forms. We'll take yours on-board, and see if that are improvements we can bring to the table! Again, thanks for sharing. 🤜

      I've used these wheels (50 disc clinchers) for about 6 months now and they're some of the nicest wheels I've ridden in a while. I'm a cat 2 racer and personally I've never gotten any rubbing or flexing of the wheels (however I am a lighter rider at 67kg). I would personally recommend them!

    Decent video, and love the response from Winspace; I used to run the same Schwalbe Pro Ones tubeless on a set of Reynolds assault - they were the hardest to install tyres ever, so much so that removing one cracked the rim. No more tubeless for me.

    I’ve raced and trained all year on the disc brake Hyper 50s and 65s. I absolutely love them. My race results speak for themselves winning Crits, time trials, road and stage races with them. I’ve beat the hell out of them… NorCal road races on the shittiest surfaces imaginable (think Copperopolis for those that know), as well as racing in OR, NM, TX, and FL. I’ve double flatted hitting holes that tore huge holes in tires, even did a fondo with 35miles of gravel. They’ve held up great and still roll true. I hope Winspace doesn’t see this bc I’d pay more than double what they charge for em.

    To be brief, I had totally different experience. Bought a Salsa Warroad on ebay. It was a dog, had Roval 30mm aluminum rims with Swiss DT 350 hubs. Replaced the bearings, mechanic said everything inside the hub looked good, helped a little. Ordered the Hypers on impulse, came 6 days later, 50mm with ceramic bearings, no paint, like yours. They opened this bike up, 2mph faster, handle terrific, I fly downhills where before I would reach a plateau. At 210lbs, crosswinds don't affect me, a little stiff, but tubeless, I just lowered the psi from 80 to 70lbs. I have 28c wide tires, what width did you go with? That and the brand (I went with Pirelli Race Zero tires) can make a difference. Like you, I pretty much ride by myself to work and back. Freewheel's a little loud, not as loud as yours, but on the trail, people hear it and move.

Zipp wheels were super flexy just like you said (but sounded really cool), the eastons were really narrow and had the most sketchy braking ever, and the Chinese pair are the most well rounded overall. I got my wheels today! Hooray. I did open up the free body hub and greased all around it. There was no much in there. So little that a few paws dropped off but easy to put back together. Hopefully that helps the loud sound in the free hub. I might have to look into the type of grease to us on the bearings to make them a little faster or last a bit longer. I found it weird that the brake pads didn’t have a notch for the front brake pads screw. I will make due. These are my first carbon rims. I hope I set some PRs.

I use the wheels usually 5 times a week, and I have used basically every major brand of wheels created over many, many years. For me, the HYPER Wheels have been 100% awesome. I use Strava on all my rides and have set a large amount of PR's using the HYPER Wheels. Lastly, for me, I have absolutely 100% zero issues with crosswinds ad HYPER Wheels. In fact, the HYPER Wheels have been some of the best and most proper feelings when doing heavy crosswind rides. Interesting your views. Also, I have thousands of miles on the HYPER Wheels and all my spokes are still in perfect position. I know of a few different friends I have who also race on the HYPER Wheels and I have watched them win races on the HYPER Wheels. I liked the HYPER Wheels so much, I paid for another set of HYPER Wheels, size 38's. Both HYPER Wheels registered way above the curb for all the Road Bike Wheels from China I had tested. The HYPER Wheels and the LUN Wheels just seemed to have more care, and more precise build and better performance than any of the others I used from China. The rest is history, super stoked to try out all the HYPER & LUN Wheel models and get to know the brand up close and personal. I've had a set of 50mm disc hypers. I have about 6k miles on them. They are stiff. Very stiff. Conti GP5000TL 25mm and 28mm. The 28mm help soften the ride a little more and didn't impact times/speeds much. Easily maintain 20-22mph in groups or solo, but the bearings are packed with grease when shipped and when it starts to thin out they speed up more and hold speed easily.
    No issues with my spokes. I thought I would and ordered with more spares just in case. Haven't needed them.
    Hit the spoke crossovers with light silicone lube when they arrived and never had the creaking issue some people reported.
    These have been stable as hell for me in wind compared to zipp, Mavic, or Reynolds.
    Their thru-axles are crappy. Rounding of the hex after two removals. Swapped them out for DT Swiss.

Problems with wind yes but unsafe only on top of the highest colorado mountains with strong gusts (I’m 195 pounds). The wheels are fast ( I wonder if you tighten the skewers hard, I remember PeakTorq mentioning the bearings required the preload). The wheels felt even faster with 25mm tires but those make for a very stiff ride so I use 28mm.

    I don't think you can downplay your level of cycling to that of a recreational cyclist that rides with some buddies for fitness - and at the same time say that you don't need any comparative stats, and that you can know beyond any doubt that a give set of wheels is faster or slower on feel alone. I'm not going to rant or hate on you - I just don't think that a recreational rider would have the level of awareness or feel to make that kind of determination without any data to back it up.
    Personally I can say that I don't share your experience with these wheels. I have my Hypers on a Cervelo P2 and I love them. I used them this entire outdoor season, and while I don't ride the P2 for all of my rides...I have several hundred km on them and am still very happy I made the purchase.

    So from a viewers entertainment perspective you have given your honest opinion that's fine and all. When you mentioned about speed, strength and aerodynamic stability without any quantifiable means, it really does limit your validity.
    - When you talk about the aero dynamic benefit of the hyper wheels in compares to the Zipps after awhile that part was the most inaccurate of them all almost laughable since without any power metrics and speed metrics under equivalent conditions how would you know which wheel is more efficient.
    -Your first impressions are always the most important in determining the speed differential since as you get used to the characteristics you wont be able to notice the difference anymore as you get desensitized.
    - You can't quantify the durability of the wheels just based on your incorrect usage and breaking spokes due to handling and not fixing the situation.

    • @cycling8189
      @cycling8189  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching.
      -they are slower than zipps, I ride with a buddy and when I had the zipps I would always pull away on downhills, with hypers he stay right next to me, plus I have a harder time holding speed with hypers compared to zipps. Don’t need power dynamic to realize that.
      -even on the first ride they felt like they didn’t hold speed as well but I ignored that because I didn’t want to feel like I made a bad decision
      -the durability is still up in the air. Like I said in the video I don’t blame winspace for the spoke breaking, it may have my been my fault it may have not, they send extra spokes so who cares. My main issue is that the spokes on the front wheel rotate, the broken spoke was on the rear wheel so the front wheel shouldn’t have rotating spokes.

    Hi Cycling818, as a very happy Winspace Hyper wheel owner I am sad to hear that you are unhappy with the Hyper wheels. Firstly, I do not work for Winspace but I have used and sold many wheels. I bought these wheels as a backup to my Zipp NSW 303 wheels which I only use on race days. After riding the Hypers for one month I sold my Zipps and started racing on the Hypers instead as they are deeper and more aero than a Zipp 303, lighter, stiffer, more responsive and just as good at handling cross winds (I weigh 58kg). I have been fortunate that I have had no issues with the wheels except for a bit of spoke creak when i first got them about 18 month ago and my bearings are nearly ready to be replaced. A Zipp 404 is 58mm so it will be more aero than any other 50mm wheel. I am surprised and sad to hear that you have had trouble handling these wheels in wind compared to a 58mm wheel as I have only had issues on extremely windy days (switch to 38mm). The profile of this rim is U shape and is an open mould used by many other different wheel companies. The issue of spokes coming loose could possibly be that your spokes have not been tensioned evenly as this often causes a spoke to come loose? In terms of the spokes twisting, I am only a light weight so my power is most likely less than yours.. May I suggest you use a locktight on your spoke nipples to hopefully help hold the spokes in the correct position. In terms of the spokes braking. Carbon spokes are extremely strong longitudinally but can brake if hit laterally so as you acknowledged, you may have broke the spoke in transportation. if you would like to try another set of brake pads, I really recommend the Reynolds brake pads with these wheels. As a non Winspace employee hand on heart I can truly say there are many very happy Winspace Hyper wheel owners out there. It is sad that you have not had a pleasant experience.

If you like this idea I would get 24 spokes on the rear and consider an 8/16 2:1 ratio on the spokes for potentially added stiffness. 18 spokes would be sufficient for the front wheel. Seen a couple of other channels ( Peak Torque, Cam Nicholls, Luescher Teknik, OZ cycle ) outlined the spoke issue too, my local shop mentioned that too. The bearings aren't the best, do agree. From what I've seen, something is in the works, to resolve the spokes issue.
    It will be interesting to see will my set develop the problem, if so new will refresh all spokes. Otherwise, so far, happy with my set, 3500KM and all good.

      Great video, I'd like to clarify a few pointers, these wheels are extremely aero, your issue will have been the spoke rotation and possibly as a result the wheels coming out of true. This is an issue that I have experienced with my set that I run on my not so entry level Campagnolo SR eps equipped Colnago C60. I stripped my wheelset down and rebuild them using loctite on the Nipples (quite involving due to the construction). The result has been 100% true and zero spoke movement after feedback was passed onto Winspace I believe they are looking into or are now using threadlock also. The stiffness of the carbon spokes under tension seems to be a contributing factor.
      I purchased the 50mm Hyper's to compare against my Zipp 303 NSW's and I can say without doubt my preference lies with the Winspace due to their lateral stiffness and weight.I regularly ride in 15mph crosswinds and while my Zipps are a little better the Hypers are still good considering their extra depth, you should try Campagnolo Bora or Lightweight they are leathal. For clarity the difference between a class leading aero rim like the Winspace and a not so aero like the Zipp NSW is not something that could be measured by the cyclist on a ride due to the amount of variables experienced.

    • @melmyers4164
      @melmyers4164 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimmyhor78 comfort is better than the Kysriums, could be partly due the 21mm rim width vs. 14mm on the Mavics. I am running 25c tires on both. Fundmentally the Bontrager xxx have fewer and thinner spokes so that probably has more to do with it. I can't comment on how flex they are in a sprint as I am not a strong rider. Honestly the Bontragers are less twitchy in cross wind and the Mavics, I think because the Mavics have a lot of surface area on the spokes and the Bontragers don't. You can definitely feel a push with the xxx, but it's more noticeable when the wind dies off than actually when you hit a gust. Regarding the v shipped profile - while it's true they aren't blunt like some new ones out there, the stability is remarkable. Compared to the Mavics, I can't imagine a wheel that could be more stable. Drag is 1 watt lower than the Winspace 50s per hambini's chart. For me the combination of proven low drag, good design, overall comfort are what sold me.

    For my part, I have Hyper 50 rim brakes. My first impression (important first impressions) is the stiffness of the wheel as well as its aerodynamics, compared to my 38 from another brand. I was absolutely not bothered by the cross winds and I find that they are handling this situation very well. The hub is noisy, that's obvious. The solution is certainly not to drown it in grease. For the moment, after about 1000 km, I don't have a noise problem that some TH-camrs have mentioned. Sometimes this was due to the blocking axis not tight enough for some. Luesher just made a video on these wheels. Like a tennis racket and its string, we must also glimpse these wheels with their tires, their sizes, their pressure. These different parameters affect the rigidity. I weigh 68kg, I don't work for Winspace. I changed the GP 5000 for Pirelli Zero (23 at the front and 25 at the rear but they cut bigger) because the GPs were very difficult to remove because I ride with inner tubes. Good road

Get that wheelset relaced with some round spokes and I'm sure you will notice the difference. @@AdventurismPk I got myself a set of Vision Metron 55SL (world tour proven wheelset), they are great and I found them for about $1300 new (always easy to find on sale). The issue with the wheels loosing speed is not necessarily aerodynamics. These are very light wheels which (as you said) makes it very easy to accelerate them, but equally it means they decelerate quicker so you need more energy to keep them spinning at the same speed. Other deep section wheelsets may be much heavier which creates more of a flywheel effect and therefore requires less energy to keep them spinning. Also the speed at which you will start noticing this depends on a lot of other factors (rider weight, rider aerodynamics, fitness etc).
    I‘m sure that there are aerodynamic differences between the HYPERs and your old ZIPPs but I don’t think you can reasonably compare those in the real world if there are still differences in weight and weight distribution.
    As for the spokes, I’ve heard of it before that bladed straight pull spokes tend to twist and in my opinion thats an underlying flaw with the straight pull design concept in combination with blades spokes. It is nearly impossible for a J-bend spoke to twist so that’s what I would always go for if possible.
    This is my view when looking at it from a physics/engineering stand point (I study mechanical engineering), but so far I’ve not actually tried these wheels yet.

      @cycling8189  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the weight could be a factor of why the wheels feel so slow and are slow in the tests I did. Also with the bladed spokes, Ive have many sets of wheels (both mtb and road, carbon and aluminum) with bladed spokes and non of them ever had twisted spokes. Sure some came loose but the remained straight. In the world of marginal gain of 2 to 3 watts I wonder how much a couple of twisted spokes does...
      Winspace just released new Hyper wheels but it looks like they use the same spoke/hub design so im sure the twisted spokes will continue happenings until they change the spoke/hub design/interface. It looks like all the Chinese carbon spoke brand are using the same hub/spokes so im sure this isnt only a Winspace Hyper issue.

      Good for winspace. That doesn’t mean it’s a perfect product. A lot of people have told me about their problems with the hypers. Ya they updated the wheel depth and width but from the looks of it the problem with rotating spokes is still going to be an issue. I hope they can solve all these problem and make a killer wheelset for the same price point.
      Winspace needs to make there hub and spoke interface rectangular (like cadex) not round, if it’s rectangular that will stop the rotating spokes.

    Seems quite contradictory when compared to all the other reviews that basically say "omg best wheels ever made"
    Are all the other reviews fake then? So far this looks like the only honest review, the bigger channels can't be trusted then. I own the zipp 404 myself (2016 version) and have thought about selling them even though I like them because everyone is saying how good these are so I really thought it would be a no brainer since they're apparently faster and lighter. Some even say they're better than zipps and enves but I have to ask why? The durability and warranty is another great point, who knows how durable these are and how long will they last? Zipp offer a lifetime warranty on their wheels so it's a far safer option for someone like me that doesn't like working on bikes. Yeah maybe these accelerate slightly faster but does it really matter?

    If I may include my own inputs, the wheel flex you're getting might due to the new skewers you put. I'm a bike mechanic and I've resolved many issues on clients' bikes just by telling them to put back their heavy skewers. I myself had a pair of KCNC skewers on my Mavic Ksyrium SL's, and with them I would get tire rub on my carbon wishbone seatstays. Slapped the stock Mavic skewers back on and they've been golden.

    Interesting. Leuscher Teknik, who has no affiliation with any of the products he reviews actually measured the stiffness of the Winspace 50’s using laboratory equipment, and they were laterally stiffer than both Zipp 404’s and comparable depth Enve’s. And he’s not basing that statement off a subjective opinion or “personal feel”, but by measuring the actual deflection of the wheel in a lab when measurable forces are applied to the wheels.
    I don’t own Zipp 404’s at the present, but I used to run a pair and they are certainly not near the top of the list regarding lateral stiffness for CF wheels near that rim depth.

      Like I have customers who buy a gravel bike with no intention of riding on gravel and then ask me how they can make the bike faster for road riding? I ask, “What do you use the bike for? Do you want to race?”
      They say “oh just for fitness riding on a Sunday morning.” Me, “then why do you want to make the bike faster? If you make the bike less effort to ride and faster you will basically get less health benefits?” It would be like buying a Mitsubishi 4x4 and then saying to the garage “Make this car handle like a Mazda MX5.”
      So you are sad that the wheels don’t seem as fast as the zipps…
      (in reality I’d bet money they are but it’s probably on the flat you are noticing a difference because the zipps are heavier and therefore will hold momentum better at mid range speeds. Like a flywheel. As for climbing, sprinting and aerodynamics I’d say the Hypers have it in the bag. If you were racing and a faster rider averaging 45-50kph you would definitely notice the aerodynamic benefits of the lighter and more aero Hypers.)
      But if you don’t race, or do TTs and just ride for fitness it’s not really a problem. And as they were about 1/2 the price of a “good” zipp I wouldn’t worry.
