I agree, he is fabulous. Get this, I used his instructional video to help me install a metal cloak lift on my JL even though he was installing a lift of a different brand. And yet his video was more helpful than the manual from Metal Cloak.
What an incredibly helpful and well-made video! THANK YOU! My dealership wanted almost $800 to do this -- using subpar batteries, no less. I bought the AUX you installed for 129 at O'Reilly, and I got an Interstate H6 from Costco for 169. You saved me almost $500! As a small token of thanks, I just bought some merch on your bonfire store ... and you've made a lifelong fan. Thanks again!
I just now had to do the replacement for my 2020 JLU sport with 70k miles. Been reading on the forums everyone is saying not to go through the top through the fuse box but from below through the fender skirt and to order extra Mopar fasteners because they will snap. I followed this video precisely and it was a sinch. Got it done in 20 minutes! Thanks Eddie!
Yeah. It sucks. When I was changing mine out and tightening the last bolt on the battery I accidentally touched the other terminal with the socket wrench arcing the terminals and fried the row of fuses for another $60 out the door.
What a pain..!! Yeah just keep taking bolts off, and Dickinson with the terminal plugs for the fuses..?! Every fuse..?? I can see where this will cause more problems....geez
With so many things yet to do to my JL, I can always count on you to explain a repair or modification in DIY'er terms. Love how you tell us what tools we'll need, what sizes and recommendations for parts and accessories you like, tried and tested. Thanks again for another great video!
Yes, the knowing the wrench sizes in advance does really help. I watched twice and noted all wrench sizes, it made the job go much smoother. Your mechanical how-to videos are great!
The error codes you mentioned in the end of the video are so important. I wouldn’t have thought that the batteries needed replacing but it makes sense. Great job, Eddie!
Beautifully produced video. Very clear and easy to follow steps explaining a cumbersome process of removing and replacing batteries on my Gladiator. Could not have done it without these tips!
I replaced my AUX battery too with the help of your great video. For anyone that might be reading this, my Wrangler wouldn’t start even with a healthy main battery. It did start after replacing the AUX. Thank you!
Great video. I love when someone takes the time to not only show the how...but adds in things like the socket sizes you'll need. This video made this job a breeze. Thanks
I couldn’t agree more, well said! Knowing everything ahead of time, especially the exact tools needed, is definitely priceless. Extremely helpful - made the task of replacing these so much smoother! I’m very appreciative.
Three years later, your video saved my butt! Thank you so much for the step by step instructions. I was able to complete this today for my wife. Thank you again!!!
THANK YOU!!!! My husband can usually fix anything but he's the type to just tear in and get it done and I'm the type to calmly read the manual (or watch the video!) and this video saved our Sunday! He was bloody knuckled and swearing for an hour trying to get new aux battery in meanwhile I simply said "Hey, are you sure that's the right way because this dude in this video has the metal thingys to the left and you have mine to the right..." That's how we figured out he was given the wrong battery at the parts store! Exchanged the battery and I made him watch the whole thing start to finish and we got it done! THANK YOU!!!!!
We are lucky here in Australia with the right hand drive. The main battery is on the other side and the auxiliary battery is sitting underneath it. We don’t even have to touch the fuse box to change these battery. I tried by passing the auxiliary battery by pulling the fuse 42 and disconnecting the black lead to the auxiliary battery, but caused strange things to happen.
Thank you! Yesterday I didn’t even know my Wrangler JL had an auxiliary battery and that it would be so difficult to get to. Today, I replaced both batteries and everything is working. So glad that I didn’t have to go to the dealer and pay the big $$$. Great Vid! The detailed info makes all the difference. Keep Jeepin.
I did this battery change this afternoon on my JT, your step by step instructions did the trick! Even bought that same Odyssey battery from your link :) I got stuck on one part, the electrical couplers were not coming loose from the breaker panel when I lifted it off. In the end I got them loose by tapping down on the bolts with a wrench to push them out of their connectors. Thanks for making this tutorial!
Awesome! Glad our video was able to help out and that you were able to figure out how to free up the plugs. On some Jeeps, they can be in there pretty tight.
I know this is an older video, but it's spot on! I just replaced this batter Friday and watched this video first. It made it so much easier knowing exactly what to do.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am a female engineer who was very frustrated with all the videos showing how to incorrectly replace this battery. We tried and failed to bypass this battery on my husband’s jeep and it failed and we had a Jeep that would no longer start. I followed your tutorial and was able to successfully replace the auxiliary battery and our jeep started right back up. Thank you again.
Happy to hear our video was able to help you out. I should also note that the auxiliary battery exists to protect your Jeep's computer during start ups. It should not be bypassed even if you could get it to work. Auto start/stop amplifies the amount of starting your Jeep sees but even with it disabled, your computer will still get surged and over time, will harm your computer. Of course, this is to say nothing about your warranty being voided without it.
Had the famous A-hole light come on on my 20 JLU, and with your help swapped out the batteries, and Wala all fixed. Thank you for the detailed directions, it definitely helped!
When I need to wrench on my JT. I always come here to see what I need to do "Before" I dig into it. Your videos are way better than the Shop Manuals!!!
This was spot on. First time replacing either battery, let alone both. It happened just as it did in the video. Thank you so much. You saved me time, worry, and money that I would have paid to the dealership.
Helped me change my batteries in my 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JL today! Thank you! New Jeep owner, followed your video step-by-step and everything went smooth! Thank you!
Since my dad forced me to be his free jeep mechanic I recently needed to install his replacement Aux battery so your video was a great help thanks again.
This was an extremely helpful, thank you!! I just went through this exact process in my 2020 JLUR and you made it a lot more bearable - ha The only thing I might add is, I went around and made sure all of the fuses were seated good - as some had gotten a little lose when I re-installed the fuse tray onto the plugs. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
I just ordered my first Jeep (24 Rubicon X). Have been watching utube videos while I wait for it's arrival. You have some of the most informative and helpful videos. Thanks
I wanna say thank you for showing me this method ! I literally got it done in 45 minutes . Dodge Dealership cost $ 200 (battery ) $250 (labor ) Me doing the work thanks to your video for guidance $120.00 (battery) at autozone (45 minutes of labor ) Saved over $350 dollars !!!! YOU DA MAN !
Awesome video. Clear instructions, socket sizes, tips, etc. I didn’t think getting at Aux battery thru fuse box was that tough, and almost seemed easier than the fender well approach some people do. That bungie cord tip was great! I did the same trick for holding back the three wire harness on the firewall side. My findings… 1) the four wire harnesses that so nicely stayed in your tray or were easily pulled off for you, did not stay in my tray and instead were tightly attached to underside of my fuse panel. Yes, I had the four long screws fully detached from the harnesses. Pulling on the back of them just pulled off the colored back cover pieces, and I didn’t want to then pull by the wires. SOLVED: I found that tapping with a hammer or wrench handle on the top of those unscrewed long screws would push the harness off the bottom of fuse panel. 2) you mentioned the Odyssey Aux14 battery was what you would have preferred but couldn’t find. I did find that and bought it at first. The terminals on the Odyssey were not square/straight on 3 sides like the bent down sides of the Jeeps +/- terminal connectors need to attach flat and centered. I returned it and got Diehard Platinum and it looked completely identical in shape all over, to the Jeep original. 3) when re-assembling the fuse box, there is a satisfying snap as the lock tabs engage when pushing the top fuse panel onto the bottom tray and harnesses. So satisfying you might think you’re done and forget to actually screw back in those four long silver screws that snug up each harness. Well fyi… if that’s the case, then when you are all done, it won’t start…or didn’t for me…and a sinking feeling will set in. Luckily I walked back thru the video versus what I remembered doing and figured it out. Those screws must either seat the harnesses all the way, or not ground something, until screwed in. Again, really appreciate the video. Subscribed and will be checking out your other content!
I just replaced both batteries on our 2018 JLUR yesterday. It was a breeze. I wouldn't have attempted it myself without the help of this video. Thanks Eddie!
Eddie, HUGE help with this video!!! Thank You!!! All the other videos I've seen have you go through the fender well and the fender inner skirting....Holy Hell!!! My battery(ies) have been acting up lately....took my jeep in for an oil change and got to talking with the tech.....told him about changing out my batteries and he said that the easiest way was through the door under the battery.....he failed to tell me it is actually under the fuse/relay/power center.....I got the main battery out and was looking for a door.....but its really not a door but an access panel and while 2 of the bolts for the panel are under the main battery, the rest is under the fuse block as you show in the video. Thankfully I didn't throw in the towel before I found your video! Following your video was pretty straight forward......got the old Aux battery out and replaced.......re-installed the access panel and then the Lower Power/fuse block unit. Found a cool feature that I didn't see in your video: - The lower "tray" has pockets in it that correspond to the 4 large wire connectors. You can "snap" the wire connectors into these pockets (they will actually snap into the pockets....This allows you to (Carefully) position the Power center/fuse/relay panel over the lower block and connectors. Once properly positioned you simply snap the power center/fuse/relay into place (remember the 4 plastic "snaps" that were undone to remove the Power center/fuse/relay panel in the first place) and push it down until it "Snaps" the 4 Plastic keepers. At this point the 4 wiring connectors are in the right positions and you simply screw in the 4 Bolts that you had undone to get the Power center/fuse/relay block out in the first place. When you screw these 4 bolts in, the bolts actually lift the connectors out of the lower tray pockets and into their proper positions on the bottom the power center/fuse/relay block (you will hear the connectors "unsnap" from the lower tray pockets......Way to go Jeep engineers!!... With all my start/stop messing around it took me about an hour and 15 minutes to do this job. I replaced both batteries (AUX 14 AGM battery and an Upgraded H7 96r AGM for the main) I didn't hook up a power source to the battery leads when I disconnected them (just like in you video) and once all done, fired up and had not lost any settings. Again, Thank You so much for posting this video!!!
OMG the Dog Ripley! I wanted to see her rip into the new toy. Great how too video. Even replacing batteries is a pain now. Oh well, at least much of the vehicle is still old school. At least compared to many new vehicles. That tiny jump starter is incredible. I have looked into similar but haven't seen one that small. I am blown away that it works. Great addition to anyone who travels or really anyone who drives. great video!!!
One of the best instructional videos I've seen on here. Not only made the nightmare of swapping out my aux battery about as easy as it could be, but also helped reassure me that the screwy readouts and behavior of my jeep wasn't something worse!! A+++
I know this is a 2 yo video, but thank you for it. My wife's 2020 JLU wouldn't start the other day. I had no clue what to do. I saw this video, but the auxiliary battery, and then followed the directions in the video. I'm proud to say, the Jeep now works. 👍👍👍
All that extra cost and complexity just to gain 0.00001 mpg extra with the stupid start/stop system. Every time I start my Jeep I immediately turn off the start/stop system to avoid all the extra wear and tear on the starter and engine not to mention the annoyance of having the engine stop and restart at every light. Thanks for another great video. Will help me a lot when its my turn to replace my batteries.
This is the third different video I had to watch. I should have stayed work yours. You got me ask the way through the process without making me feel dumb. Than you very much for being as detailed as needed for a shadetree mechanic to get it done!!!
Eddie, again, I want to thank you for this video. Swapping the batteries from above became an extremely manageable endeavor for me thanks to you, in what I'm sure, knowing me, would have been a "train wreck" without such guidance. It was such a pleasure to know that before I began, that I had every tool I needed already out, not the least of which being an E6 reverse torx bit to swap the ESS battery's terminal studs. Please know that I have ordered the electric torx wrench that I've always wanted from your sponsored link as the least I could do.
Not new to Wranglers but just bought my first JL a few weeks ago and noticed my battery is barely able to crank this morning...this video is gonna be a lifesaver. Appreciate it!
Just to make sure you know, this small auxiliary battery ONLY exists on Jeeps with a 3.6L or 2.0L and WITHOUT etorque. If you have etorque, the battery is huge and located under the belly of your Jeep.
Huge help!!!!! Followed your video perfectly to remove everything from my Jeep Gladiator with no damage. Will follow through after I buy new batteries for the follow up. So far so good!
Thank you! Made the process of replacing both my batteries easy and saved me hundreds of dollars. Your step by step instructions made it a breeze and cleared my auto start unavailable code.
First great video Eddie. This is for all other's be careful when removing the 2 main battery posts. The auxiliary battery is still connected in line with system for JL's and JT's. You can get a multi-meter and read the positive and negative posts after disconnected and still get 12VDC. The aux battery runs the Electronic Start/Stop system. You can even get in with main battery posts disconnected and start your engine with key FOB nearby. I remove the aux battery posts off the firewall. Replacing the stock AGM batteries with better after market ones like Eddie did should get you 2 to 3 times the life then stock. Great job. Love seeing vids of the puppy growing up.
Sorry for the ignorance here, but you posted that as a warning without explaining what the concern/threat is? He didn't seem to take any precautions, just removed the post, removed that battery, then went on to removing the aux. So what should I be concerned with?
Beautiful border collie puppy! I have a 7 year old border collie that came to our house together with a male border collie, both appear full breed, as strays one night. My daughter kept the male and we kept the female. They are the best dogs ever! So loving and affectionate!! Never seen any other dogs like them!
Ripley is our second Border Collie. After we lost Tessa, I didn't think I could do it again but then Cindy convinced me we needed another and yes, they are simply the best.
So helpful! I'm first saw a video that said I would be removing the inner fender to get to the auxiliary battery. I am happy I found this video before I got myself down the wrong path!
Great video and it was an easy process with the right tools. Saved me about $600 from the car shop. Can’t imagine pulling the fender or liner. This solved an O2 sensor error and a slow starts mid day (first start of day was fine but later ones stuttered). 2018 JL. Thx!
Thank you so much! I was able change my Auxiliary battery with your video! Loved each step and how detailed you were with all the sizes. Thank you so much again! Saved me hundreds! I also had a engine light on before and went right away after installed new AUX battery. It’s not hard at all, Thanks!
I didn’t know about this. We have two JLs. This guy is very helpful. He has showed me how to do suspension lift, double cardan drive shafts, track bars, control arms, caster angles now the auxiliary battery that I didn’t even know existed. My jeep has gone through all of the changes I have just mentioned from his videos. Maybe I will just change the batteries even if they make it to 4 yrs. Thanks.
Really happy to hear our videos have been so helpful to you. I should note that this is mainly a thing with the 3.6L. If you have a 2.0L or etorque, you will not have this auxiliary battery.
@@wayalife Hi our jeeps are 3.6L. Went out and purchased a jump start battery. The one a purchased was quite expensive as I will get a few more cranks out of it if needed. Maybe one day it will save us. Cheers
Eddie, thanks for this video! I lost remote start, even though it was still under warranty, I decided to replace the battery with a better aftermarket battery. I hadn't lost the ability to start the jeep, it just didn't have enough ummph to remote start.
I just finished the replacement. Whoever thought to put the auxiliary battery in such a difficult to-access place is truly something special. Anyways, thank you so much for a step-by-step tutorial. It was super easy to follow and, without it, I definitely would have been stuck in the garage for several hours trying to figure everything out.
It's lame for sure but fortunately, you only need to do it about once every 4 or so years and the second time around is a lot faster. Glad that our video was helpful to you.
Thank you! Saved me a ton of money on my 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Only part that slowed me down was the harness plugs under the PDC. Watching you toss them like Legos though gave me confidence. I just replaced both batteries for about $250. I've heard they charge as much as 800 for this at a dealership. Only thing I'd add to someone unfamiliar with battery replacement is just to be prepared for a small arc (spark) when reconnecting your negative terminal. This is common, harmless, and just due to residual charge.
I just wanted to comment that I used your video for reference on how to do this today. Was a great help and gave me some confidence for getting at the auxiliary battery. I also reset the IBS by removing all the negative cables from one another and letting the IBS sit by itself while I completed all the other steps. Thanks!
Outstanding video. Super informative and your procedures and explanations are the best I ever seen. I own a gladiator and they seem to have a lot of problems with the auxiliary battery on which even the dealership hates to deal with. I thank you for your time and awesome video...you make it look so easy hahaha. Thanks again..also at the end of your commentary you are absolutely right my gladiator was doing all of the above including malfunctioning of the start/stop function. Thanks God bless 🙏
Awesome! So glad to hear our video was helpful to you and really, it is that simple to swap out. We literally filmed this video in real time meaning, it only took about 15 min to swap out both batteries. 👍
Hey just wanted to drop a note thanking you for putting out a very simple, straightforward video to replace the Aux Battery...just completed my swap out this morning...super easy after watching your video...especially using a bungee cord to keep the stuff out of the way...Keep up the great content.
Thank you so much for this video. Great job! Made changing my batteries pretty simple. One additional suggestion… Protect the main battery positive harness from accidentally grounding during the change out. Once the AUX battery is installed, the main battery positive lead becomes “hot”. (Call me Sparky.)
This Video is Great!!! OK! So I was getting the battery fail notifications on a 2020 Rubicon 2.0 Turbo. Called 2 dealers in Vegas One said according to the VIN it was a single battery system and the other a 2 battery system. I got the 2 batteries and followed this video and got all the way to the Aux battery box and no aux battery was there. The parts guy did say he didn't get the VIN right, and basically he messed up. I put the new main battery in and will return the unused aux battery. Make sure the service or parts guy writes the VIN on the invoice to hold them accountable! This Video is awesome! Thank You so much!
That is frustrating to hear you had to go through all that trouble just to find out the parts guy made a mistake. As you have found, any Jeep with e-torque will NOT have the small auxiliary battery but rather, the large 48v one under the Jeep.
@@kelliestravels Sorry, I don't own a Jeep with etorque. However, it really shouldn't be going bad so soon. If you're having a battery problem, changing out the main one under your hood should fix it. If your problem really is the 48v one, it should be covered under warranty.
@@wayalife You are correct! Changing the main battery was the issue. The etorque battery has an 8 yr/80K warranty. Those who have etorque should note the 3 coolant reservoirs in the engine compartment. Thank you again!
That has to be the most difficulty I have seen you have in any of the videos of yours I have watched. Glad you did this video to allow us to learn beforehand. The puppy vids are always awesome!
Thank you. I was struggling with the positive lead and couldn't figure out what I was missing. I also had no idea where my auxiliary battery was located. What was going to be a quick battery replacement just became longer, lol. I'm so glad I found your video. It's probably my auxiliary since it's been sitting.
Thank you for the great instructional video! I just replaced both batteries on my Wrangler JL and found your video to be very helpful. Tip: Costco has great prices on Interstate Batteries. I saved about $100 on the main battery by purchasing from Costco. They didn’t have the auxiliary battery.
Oddly enough I just had my aux battery go out on my JT, turned on you tube to see if you had a video on that and oddly enough as soon as i pulled up youtube it was right there........ big brother IS watching !! Great video
Great video! We tow our 2020 JLU Diesel and live full time in our motorhome. When something stops working (like batteries) it’s often a huge pain to make an appointment at a dealer for something that may be under warranty BUT you just can’t wait for an appointment on their schedule! Was glad to see your symptoms were the same as mine and it's what convinced me to jump in and deal with the PIA of digging for that second AUX battery! (Fortunately, while diggibng out the main battery, I found out that in the Diesel the AUX battery sits in a compartment just under the main battery!!!) No fuse box removal and pretty actually pretty straight forward! Thank you for taking the time to do these videos! (Any chance you’ve found a firewall mount location for that ARB air compressor on the Diesel yet? ; ) Cheers!
This is exactly the comment I was looking for, my JLU diesel, noted the fuse box and air filter system are in different positions than Eddie’s, noted the auto start on and off says battery charging and aside that, no warning ⚠️, the main battery read 14v in the main screen, My Rubicon is a tank that can get me everywhere but if I am in the middle of nowhere without a jump starter, it is useless if the car does not start
Watched your video. Changed out both batteries on my JL. Worked out great. Saved a bunch of time and money. Your tip on the E6 socket helped most. Thank you!
Thanks for another fantastic, clear and engaging video Eddie. You and your team really are good at what you do and weekend DIYers like me really appreciate your willingness to share the process. Quick question: Does the AUX battery have a specific size/group number or are they universal?
As of Dec 2022, two batteries came up at my local O'Reilly's computer: AUX 12 and AUX 14. I wasn't sure which it was so I went home to do some more internet research and found it's the AUX 14 with 200 cranking amps. AUX 12 has 180 cranking amps and is this not correct but will fit in the space.
I just ordered my batteries from 4 wheel parts. Dealer had quoted me at 750 + tx. I wasnt aware jeeps had 2 batteries but this video makes it super easy and cant wait to install them. Great video
@wayalife I had some lights come on and dealer told me the code was for both batteries that had low voltage. I have the 3.6 with auto shut off . Thank you ill let you know once I install them
Great information! I read about a second battery in my manual (eco- diesel) while browsing, didn’t read entire paragraph. Looked for it under the hood and thought it strange there wasn’t 2 batteries. Now I know, thank you for the great video!
Very Helpful, thanks. I was on a road trip and started having battery problems. Cut it short and made it home. What is the normal battery voltage and what is the cut off voltage where it no longer starts?
I know this is an older video, however I wanted to say thank you for making it. I talked with a batteries plus rep the other day. He advised me yo throw away the battery sleeves, unless you live in cold weather. I live in AZ thats why he advised this for me. I will store mine away on the larger battery. The AUX one I like it in there for now, for a tighter fit.
Any issues with reconnecting the fuse box. I keep reading that it is "dangerous" and you should do it from under the car, but to me it doesn't make sense at all
@@vincenzomilitello9947 I would never pretend to know as much or more than people who'll tell you something is 'dangerous', even though they have zero personal experience doing it but if you read through the 1500 comments, I don't think you'll find a single person who's used this video to have experienced a problem. Certainly, if I did, you'd know about it in this video but then, that just my personal experience.
Your channel is now my only Go To for Jeepy maintenance and repair instruction and advice. Hopefully you get the views and subs that you certainly deserve. Thanks again!
This video made what I thought was a more difficult task EASY!!! Awesome step by step and perfect views and demos!!! Thank you for getting me going again! Freaking aux battery!!!!!
Dude, doing this today for the 3rd damn time since I got this thing 3 years ago (AZ/CO is tough on batteries). Love almost everything else about the JLUR, but this 2-battery system is one of the worst designs I've ever encountered. The fact that you can't even jump the main to get started if the AUX is dead (because it won't crank if the AUX doesn't pass its test on startup) is literally dangerous. I think they fixed this in later models, but the 2018.5 is a PITA when it comes to batteries; and potentially getting stranded in the wild, or hung out in an intersection. I sure wish your video was out the first time I encountered this situation. You are a GREAT instructor!
I am baffled by some of the other videos online showing how to change the Auxiliary Battery!! Some of them showing people ripping off the effing fender to get to it. I would rather stick to the instructions of WayAlife. Great video. Now I feel confident tackling the job.
@@wayalife Man it worked!!! It wasn't bad at all!!! Your detailed step by step instructions saved my asteroid a lot of money $$$. Thanks again for the video!!
I’ve sent my JLU to the shop twice over this, but with your video I will now save a ton of money. Please tell your friend at FSA that the sales team should do a daily Three Stooges slap of the engineering managers at the start of every work day.
The best instructional video yet seen on TH-cam. Well done, Sir. My Jeep Wrangler is a week old (but is a 2020 model) and wouldn't start yesterday. Big letter 'A' shows in the speedo display. Figured its been sitting in the car lot for a year of more and batteries might be stuffed. Will try and get the dealer to replace the both of them. Thanks again.
Man, I don't even own a Jeep, but you have to be one of the best instructors on TH-cam. Great work
Thank you. I'm genuinely flattered that you'd say as much.
agreed supradav403. i want a Jeep now after watching the Wayalife videos. He makes me think I can do it and im a moron when it comes to cars/ trucks.
I agree, he is fabulous. Get this, I used his instructional video to help me install a metal cloak lift on my JL even though he was installing a lift of a different brand. And yet his video was more helpful than the manual from Metal Cloak.
This guy is my jeep bible
was jus thinking i cant be the only one who specifically look for his instructional videos haha
I’m a 56 yr old lady and was able to change the batteries following this video. Thank you !
That is awesome! Glad we could be of help to you.
You are by far the best Jeep Instructor out there. Whenever I need to know how to fix something on the truck I see if you have done it already.
Truly humbled that you would say as much and glad to know our videos are helpful to you.
Awesome! Happy to hear our video was helpful and that it saved you some money 👍
Same here, i almost laughed when they quoted me $800 for this 😂😂
I just now had to do the replacement for my 2020 JLU sport with 70k miles. Been reading on the forums everyone is saying not to go through the top through the fuse box but from below through the fender skirt and to order extra Mopar fasteners because they will snap. I followed this video precisely and it was a sinch. Got it done in 20 minutes! Thanks Eddie!
Glad to hear our video was helpful to you and that it only took about 20 minutes to do. That's about how quick I did it as well.
Same situation ran out of daylight tonight and was going to follow the forums and go through the skirt. This looks way simpler. Thanks!
That is a really dumb design for that second small battery
LOL - not exactly the easiest thing to get to, that's for sure.
Yeah. It sucks. When I was changing mine out and tightening the last bolt on the battery I accidentally touched the other terminal with the socket wrench arcing the terminals and fried the row of fuses for another $60 out the door.
@@ProficientEnough ouch
What a pain..!! Yeah just keep taking bolts off, and Dickinson with the terminal plugs for the fuses..?! Every fuse..?? I can see where this will cause more problems....geez
The engine bay is very tight i am sure they had no other room.
With so many things yet to do to my JL, I can always count on you to explain a repair or modification in DIY'er terms. Love how you tell us what tools we'll need, what sizes and recommendations for parts and accessories you like, tried and tested. Thanks again for another great video!
Awesome, so glad that our videos are helpful to you. 😎
Glad I could be of help with this video :)
Beautifully produced video. Very clear and easy to follow steps explaining a cumbersome process of removing and replacing batteries on my Gladiator. Could not have done it without these tips!
Glad it was helpful!
I replaced my AUX battery too with the help of your great video. For anyone that might be reading this, my Wrangler wouldn’t start even with a healthy main battery. It did start after replacing the AUX. Thank you!
Awesome, glad you found the video useful!
Great video. I love when someone takes the time to not only show the how...but adds in things like the socket sizes you'll need. This video made this job a breeze. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Socket size was a BIG HELP!!!!
Awesome! So happy to hear that our video was helpful to you 👍
Absolutely the best instructional video for any automotive replacement I have ever seen. Thank You Very Much!
Happy to hear you found our video to be useful :)
Legit video. Had startup issues. came here and followed these steps to the letter. Saved me some 'back to the dealership' money. Great instructions
Glad to hear our video was helpful to you!
LOL - that is awesome! We really do appreciate you sharing your story with us and we're so happy to hear that our video was helpful to you. 👍
This video is perfect. Got it done in record time and fixed both my issues! Thank you!
Awesome! Happy to hear our video was helpful to you and thank you👍
Awesome! Happy to hear our video was helpful to you 👍
I did this battery change this afternoon on my JT, your step by step instructions did the trick! Even bought that same Odyssey battery from your link :)
I got stuck on one part, the electrical couplers were not coming loose from the breaker panel when I lifted it off.
That is awesome and I'm glad to hear our video was able to help you out.
@@wayalifewell the bypass everyone advertised didn’t work anyways. 🤣. Thanks again.
@@gracecopeland4815 LOL - crazy
Had the famous A-hole light come on on my 20 JLU, and with your help swapped out the batteries, and Wala all fixed. Thank you for the detailed directions, it definitely helped!
Awesome! So glad that our video was helpful to you.
Awesome! So glad that our video was helpful to you.
Helped me change my batteries in my 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JL today! Thank you! New Jeep owner, followed your video step-by-step and everything went smooth! Thank you!
Awesome! Glad to hear the video was helpful!
Eddie, I know this video is a year old but you saved me a bunch of time. I didn't even have to hunt for tools! Thank you for what you do!!
Awesome! So glad to hear we were able to help you out with this video. 😎
Since my dad forced me to be his free jeep mechanic I recently needed to install his replacement Aux battery so your video was a great help thanks again.
LOL - glad that our video was helpful to you :)
This was an extremely helpful, thank you!! I just went through this exact process in my 2020 JLUR and you made it a lot more bearable - ha
The only thing I might add is, I went around and made sure all of the fuses were seated good - as some had gotten a little lose when I re-installed the fuse tray onto the plugs.
Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Glad it helped!
I just ordered my first Jeep (24 Rubicon X). Have been watching utube videos while I wait for it's arrival. You have some of the most informative and helpful videos. Thanks
Congratulations to you!! And, we're glad that you enjoy our videos.

My findings…
1) the four wire harnesses that so nicely stayed in your tray or were easily pulled off for you, did not stay in my tray and instead were tightly attached to underside of my fuse panel.
Great to hear! So glad that we were able to help you out :)
gotta ask. how much was the Aux battery and is Jeep the only place to buy one ?
Found a cool feature that I didn't see in your video:
- The lower "tray" has pockets in it that correspond to the 4 large wire connectors.
I replaced both batteries (AUX 14 AGM battery and an Upgraded H7 96r AGM for the main)
I didn't hook up a power source to the battery leads when I disconnected them (just like in you video) and once all done, fired up and had not lost any settings.
Again, Thank You so much for posting this video!!!
Happy to hear our video was able to help out.
Thank you and we're so glad you enjoyed the video :)
You don’t realize how great it is that you have the same year Jeep as me, instructions are exactly step by step for me. Thank you again
Awesome! So glad to hear our video was helpful to you.
One of the best instructional videos I've seen on here. Not only made the nightmare of swapping out my aux battery about as easy as it could be, but also helped reassure me that the screwy readouts and behavior of my jeep wasn't something worse!! A+++
Awesome. So glad that you found our video to be helpful. :)
I know this is a 2 yo video, but thank you for it. My wife's 2020 JLU wouldn't start the other day. I had no clue what to do. I saw this video, but the auxiliary battery, and then followed the directions in the video. I'm proud to say, the Jeep now works. 👍👍👍
That is awesome and I'm glad to hear our video was helpful to you and that your Jeep is working again.
Awesome. Glad we could be of help to you.
This is the third different video I had to watch. I should have stayed work yours. You got me ask the way through the process without making me feel dumb. Than you very much for being as detailed as needed for a shadetree mechanic to get it done!!!
Glad to hear our video was helpful to you.
Awesome! So happy to hear our video was helpful to you 👍
Not new to Wranglers but just bought my first JL a few weeks ago and noticed my battery is barely able to crank this morning...this video is gonna be a lifesaver. Appreciate it!
Just to make sure you know, this small auxiliary battery ONLY exists on Jeeps with a 3.6L or 2.0L and WITHOUT etorque. If you have etorque, the battery is huge and located under the belly of your Jeep.
Every-time I watch your videos I want to get in the Jeep and go for a ride.

I'm about to tackle this tonight. Thanks for doing the video! It's amazing that you're still replying to comments, 4 years later!

This youtuber makes me DYI on my Wrangler JL even during the Jeep warranty period. Very good explanation !!
So happy to hear our videos are helpful to you 😎
This was perfect. Took me about an hour and no surprises. Really well done instructions. Thanks.

Beautiful border collie puppy! I have a 7 year old border collie that came to our house together with a male border collie, both appear full breed, as strays one night. My daughter kept the male and we kept the female. They are the best dogs ever! So loving and affectionate!! Never seen any other dogs like them!

Glad to hear our video was helpful to you! 👍
Yikes!! the “J” in the JL must stand for Jigsaw puzzle. I like my Jk even more after watching this video. Thank you for another great video Eddie.
Happy to hear our video was helpful to you 👍
You’re a legend brother, still love your videos. Really appreciate so much information you’ve shared with everyone!
LOL - you're too kind. So glad to hear the information we share is useful to you :)
I just wanted to comment that I used your video for reference on how to do this today. Was a great help and gave me some confidence for getting at the auxiliary battery.

Really happy to hear our video was helpful to you.
@@wayalife Do you have a video on replacing the 48 V battery?
@@kelliestravels Sorry, I don't own a Jeep with etorque. However, it really shouldn't be going bad so soon. If you're having a battery problem, changing out the main one under your hood should fix it. If your problem really is the 48v one, it should be covered under warranty.
@@wayalife You are correct! Changing the main battery was the issue. The etorque battery has an 8 yr/80K warranty. Those who have etorque should note the 3 coolant reservoirs in the engine compartment. Thank you again!
@@kelliestravels Glad I could be of help and glad to hear you were able to address your problem just by replacing the main battery.

(Any chance you’ve found a firewall mount location for that ARB air compressor on the Diesel yet? ; ) Cheers!
Awesome! So glad to hear our video was helpful to you. Trying to get my hands on a diesel to figure things out.
Thank you!
Awesome! Happy to hear our video was helpful to you 👍
Thanks for another fantastic, clear and engaging video Eddie. You and your team really are good at what you do and weekend DIYers like me really appreciate your willingness to share the process. Quick question: Does the AUX battery have a specific size/group number or are they universal?
The Group Size 400. Or at least, that was what it was at Orielly.
Great video
Just to make sure you know, the small auxiliary battery only exists on Jeeps with a 3.6L or 2.0L and WITHOUT etorque.
@wayalife I had some lights come on and dealer told me the code was for both batteries that had low voltage. I have the 3.6 with auto shut off . Thank you ill let you know once I install them
Everybody’s lost 10mm sockets keep finding their way to Eddie’s garage 😂
HAHAHA!! Too funny :)
Brother, thanks for posting the video. The dealership wanted to charge me an arm and a leg to replace it. I was able to do it myself. God Bless.

Very Helpful, thanks. I was on a road trip and started having battery problems. Cut it short and made it home. What is the normal battery voltage and what is the cut off voltage where it no longer starts?

I talked with a batteries plus rep the other day. He advised me yo throw away the battery sleeves, unless you live in cold weather. I live in AZ thats why he advised this for me. I will store mine away on the larger battery. The AUX one I like it in there for now, for a tighter fit.
Glad I could help :)
Thank you!! No way I would have got this done without your video. 80 min for me.

Awesome battery video. 👍.
Thank you! We really do appreciate it.
By far the best video about the auxiliary battery I’ve been able to find! Glad I found it!

I’ve sent my JLU to the shop twice over this, but with your video I will now save a ton of money. Please tell your friend at FSA that the sales team should do a daily Three Stooges slap of the engineering managers at the start of every work day.
LOL - Glad to hear our video will be helpful to you and in the defense of my friends at Jeep, they just do what they're told to do.
Flatter that you would say as much and I hope your dealership is able to help you out.
