Off-Road Hiking In Oregon With The Jeep Wrangler
Hi, I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport which began giving me problems with the autostart not working properly. Then I saw lights on the dash reporting issues. The next day (yesterday) it wouldn't start. I watched your video on bypassing the aux battery, so, I went out and bought one like yours. I'm installing it now, but I had to take a break due to rain. I just want to tell you that I appreciate so much that you explained how to remove the battery and cables as well as bypassing the aux. I'm not a mechanic, I'm 66 years old and this is the first time doing something like this. I was nervous as all heck. So, again I am grateful for the guidance. Joe
Glad the video helped you out Joe, thanks for watching it!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD No problem, I finished the install and it came out just like you said! I also verified that the autostart/stop also worked, and my autostart on the key fob. Batten a thousand! Thanks again!... Oh, and it really wasn't that heavy, I curled it up and in Real easy! Lol..
If ur testing ur SWR inside a garage or close to power lines ur swr readings will be off u want to be in a open area with nothing around and ur doors closed
Old video but I bought these and they work great. Thanks for the vid! Happy Jeeping! Be safe!
Thanks, you too!
Nice truck
Sure is!
are your jack stands extra length? i got the 3 tons but it's not comfortably tall enough
I have the Harbor Freight 6 ton ones, they are significantly taller than their 3 ton ones. Thanks for watching the video!
So just to be clear here, I can leave the auxiliary battery where it's at and pull the fuse and take off that negative terminal? And im done?
Correct, if you pull the aux battery you’ll have to run the aux positive up to the main battery and tape off the aux negative to be safe. That way is a lot more work and not necessary. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
if I don't have the H7 in my Jeep, do I need to upgrade the battery in order to bypass the Aux battery? or will the H6 do the job, thanks in advance
The H6 will work but it will be under more stress if you still use the SS function. When it comes time for a new battery I would recommend getting an H7. Thanks for watching the video!
I did this and I'm off the Auxiliary and the fuse is pulled ,however i still have the "A!" Warning light. will this eventually go off?
It should go away after a few cycles but if it doesn’t I’d pull the main battery and have it check at NAPA. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
👍
I doubt you’ll see this but if you do how much do you think of ls dee flats I could do? I have a pretty decent bit of off-road experience but not a whole lot, I drive a 2014 Jeep JKU sport on 33” BFG KO2’s, factory suspension and high clearance fenders, other then they just the basics, lights, winch bumper and winch. I haven’t been out there since I was like 6 years old(22 now) so it’s been a long time. I don’t have lockers as far as I know it’s open front and rear. Also I love the videos
You’d probably be ok with 800 & 802, I’d stay off 803 without lockers and higher ground clearance. Having a winch is good for self recovery but it’s always a good idea to not wheel alone. It’s a good little trail system that’s close to Portland, you’ll have fun up there. Thanks for watching the video’s!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD what size lift and tire would you recommend for most of la Dee? I don’t do anything too hardcore since the Jeep is my daily/only rig but still want to get out and do little harder trails.
@@the_true_og4649 my JL had a 2.5” lift and 37” tires and it was fairly capable. I have used my winch several times on 803 though.
Do you need to grease the new Adams shaft or is it pre greased
Mine were pre greased but it doesn’t hurt to put a couple extra pumps in to be safe. Just make sure you use high quality grease, thanks for watching!
@frostbiteoffroad first thank you for the awesome video. Can you clarify for the fuse is it F42? On mine it show is a 5A fuse. It does say the same description and yours. Mine is a 20 wrangler. Thank you sir.
I do know they changed some stuff for the newer ones, if it’s the same position and description than I would think it would work the same. It doesn’t hurt to try, thanks for watching the video!
I just now finished installing the same carrier. I put one on my JK last year and it's a little different than my JL. This was easier, I just wish I had adjusted from the most to least space between the tire and carrier. I tried it 3 times finally using the widest. LOL Was a lot of work manually tightening nylon lock nuts. SMH Freaking great video man! Yours is The best and clearest. I watched your video several timrs before I got into it.
Glad the video helped you out, thanks for watching! Yeah I wish it slid in closer as well but overall it was a great upgrade!
Great video. Gonna do this soon.
Have fun and thanks for watching!
If I don’t currently have any aftermarket items going to the battery do I need to upgrade to the larger battery still? Or can I just bypass the Aux now? I’m getting the warning message now that says Aux buttons are not available whenever I forget to turn off the auto start.
I’d upgrade it while you’re at it but it’s totally up to you. I’d image your main battery is on its last leg if you’re getting warnings already. You could take the main battery to Napa and have it tested for peace of mind. Thanks for watching the video!
Your content is simple and clean. Thanks Appreciate your time.
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching the video!
💪🏼👍🏼💯
Thanks for watching the video!
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching!
Nice thanks
No problem, thanks for watching!
Hi had a question I installed the whole kit and once I got the camera mounted I put the last casting camera cover so to speak over it and the camera is off center doesn’t line up to the casting piece and help would be so great on how to center the camera etc
If I recall my camera cover piece was bent from welding as well. I just hit it a few times with a sledgehammer and straightened it out. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Is this worth the drive from the Portland area?
We had a good time and made a small trip out of it, I’d go back again sometime!
What about the 2nd bump stop for the spare ? I only see one installed
If I remember correctly, that specific tire carrier covered the other hole.
Hi Bryan, Thank you very much for your video. I’m having trouble with starting my Wrangler JL (my guess is the small battery killing everything) Do you confirm that removing the fuse and taping the cable will sort the thing out? I will be able to still start the vehicle? Thank you. Best, G
Yeah, if the small battery is the culprit then you should be able to do this mod and jump your main battery and be good to go. If the main battery got too low on voltage you might want to replace it, hope this helps thanks for watching!
Among many videos on this issue with the auxiliary battery, yours is number one so clear! I wonder if the same technique I could apply on my 392 Rubicon 2022 ! Thx👍🏼
Glad it helped, not sure on the 392 or not.
Saw you replace main battery and deactivate the fuse for the small battery but didn’t see small battery being taken out, did you just leave the dead small a battery in??
Yeah I left it in just in case I wanted to swap back for a warranty issue or something of that nature. It’s a nice easy mod, I’d definitely recommend it!
Go ahead!
With the 6 DB gain YOU DON'T NEED TO CUT OR SPLICE YOU SHOULD BE 1.0:1 on ALL CHANNELS!
Why do people like that stupid little 3db gain antenna?Don't you want a good SWR Don't you want better range? Then get rid of it and get the MXTA 26 by midland it's a 6 DB gain Pre set and great SWR and BETTER RANGE! I had the "Ghost Antenna like what you have I hated it so I took it and just THREW it as far as I could and then I got the MXTA 26 This was in 2018 I still have my 6 DB gain antenna I had it on a Dodge Ram Pick Up then on a Dodge Grand Caravan now it proudly stands on my 2003 Ford Taurus Station Wagon STILL on the same Magnet Mount and I'm still getting distance with my 5 watt Midland MXT 105 GMRS Radio and YES I do have My 10 year license.
Hands down
If you hit the button to turn off the start/stop button every time you start the vehicle, do you have anything to worry about regarding the aux battery going dead?
I always turned mine off and my battery eventually died. Thankfully I was in the garage not out in the woods lol, thanks for watching the video!
Over priced and unreliable
I have a Jeep gladiator 2023 Willy. On my battery the negative terminal has only two cables. Which one is the one I could tape up and tuck away?
It will be the smaller diameter cable running to the firewall. You’ll know if you do the wrong one because the Jeep won’t start, I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Just to clarify - you're saying ALL 2021 jeeps have the cable reversed or did they do a half and half year or anything?
From what I’ve read, it changed halfway through the year. You’ll want to disconnect the smaller diameter one running to the firewall. You’ll know if you did the wrong one because the Jeep won’t start. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely!
I was waiting for him to do a quick rearview, and show us the entire rear end missing or something. Nah, for real though, show us the back or I'm calling shenanigans on the minor dent.
Good stuff, didn't know you had to weld the gaps on the top part of the truss. I wonder why they ship it that way? I also asked a buddy of mine to weld my front and rear truss for me. Shops wanted over $1400 for labor.. crazy.
I’m sure when they put it through the brake press that crease is something that’s necessary, so it will need welded when you put it on the axle. Yeah I got quoted over $1000 just to do the rear. Thanks for watching the video!
Word of wisdom- if you are doing the rear, the bolt sizes and torque specs are completely different.
Yeah, I’m pretty picky about looking up factory specs when I do these installs. It’s easy to over torque those smaller bolts, thanks for watching the video!
Excelente, es justo el que voy a comprar, gracias
You’re welcome, thanks for watching the video!
I have a 2021 Wrangler EcoDiesel. Lucky for me that my Aux battery is directly under my main battery. Unlucky for all of us is that we have an Aux battery. I replaced both batteries on the 3 year anniversary of my Jeep being made before I had any issues. I live in the desert of Arizona and batteries die in about 3 years. I didn't want it to die on a ride in the desert. I push the button after starting my Jeep. I don't want the engine turning off when I am at a traffic light or when I apply the brake while off roading. I carry a Type S Jump Starter Power Bank with me all the time. I figure I can disconnect the Aux battery when I have a problem and jump the main battery to get going if I have to. I will replace my main battery and delete my Aux battery on the 2nd 3rd anniversary. Thanks for the tip on the F42 fuse.
It sounds like you have a good backup plan, thanks for watching the video!
Hey there, so simply switching the fuse and removing the negative terminal is enough to disable the aux battery? Does this reroute the start stop to the main battery or disable it permanently? Also, can the aux battery and the positive and negative lines attached to it be left in the jeep?
Yes, this mod will remove the aux battery from the loop. It will still run the stop start system on the main battery unless you get a programer to disable it. I simply just pushed the button to disable it on start ups. You can leave the lower cables and aux battery in the vehicle, making it easier if you want to switch back to stock. Thanks for watching the video!
Where do you put the positive from the aux battery?Do you just add it to the main positive?
The positive aux battery lead is already attached to the main battery so no need to do anything with it. You just need to remove the negative aux lead from the main battery and pull the fuse. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
What if the light doesnt go off?
It should after driving it a bit but if not you may need to pull your main battery and have it tested. Let me know if you have any more questions, thanks for watching the video!
Great video, unfortunately the only true way to swap the yoke correctly is to install in new crush sleeve with it! yes it will work this way, but its not correct.
You are correct, I had it re-geared and that was addressed. You can definitely cook those bearings if it ends up too tight. Thanks for watching the video!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD nice! Looks good!
Does the remote start still work???
Yeah it still works great, thanks for watching the video!
Is this suposed to work on 2022 Gladiator? I removed fuse 42 and disconnected the battery cabel and stil auto start/stop not disabled. Any idias?
This mod doesn’t disable the SS just removes the problematic aux battery from the loop. If you want it to stay off you need to get a programmer. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Best video on this yet. You actually took the time to show where the fuse was located.
Thanks for watching, I’m glad it helped you out!
This thing is so freaking awesome. The cat6 port for gmrs is a reason why I want this
Yeah having the factory style locker buttons was nice and that mic pass through is great, thanks for watching!
@FROSTBITEOFFROAD do you recommend getting both sides at once if I don't have left or right switch panel?
@@lyudmilatarusova if you need the extra aux buttons then yeah it’s not a bad way to go. They do sales every so often and you can probably get a good deal on the package setup. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching the video!
What PSI do you keep those tires at and is that enough?
He’s usually single digits, 8-10 psi. He’s never lost a bead and has days of traction!
Thank you for this video. I don’t like the stop/start. I didn’t even know it was a separate battery until today when my Jeep was dead. This saves me money and I won’t have to deal with turning this feature off every time I drive.
I'm glad the video helped you out, just to be clear you do still have to push the button every time unless you get a programmer. This mod just removes the aux battery from the loop so you don't end up stranded again, thanks for watching the video!
And changing your mind over the original install, did you ever consider the metalcloak selector shaft brace?
I don’t recall if the Metalcloak one was out then, I’m still really happy with the switch to the Steer Smarts version. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
