    Thanks for sharing this tasting! I have been deciding whether or not to upgrade to SSP burrs for the DF64, and this was very helpful!

    Lovely session, CY. Great feedback for the shots from each burr! I have all 4, but my favourite is still,the cast ones😎

      Me too. I like the cast version the best also but each of the burrs really bring out different aspects of the same beans.

    Whichever burr is best, it's great to see three friends enjoying a nice cup of coffee. 👍

    Thanks for doing this test. Right now I have the italmills which are good for dark roasts and milk drinks l, but I drink a lot of medium roasts 1:2 espressos without milk and I am missing the clarity in those shots. I'm between lab sweet burrs for my df64e or just getting a Varia VS3 which supposedly has very good clarity.

    Thanks for the comparison. Always interesting to know the difference between burr sets. I'm interested in trying out the cast burrs but I don't have a trained palate so I'm not sure I'll be able to tell the difference between them and the italmill ones, curious though....

      The taste difference is very apparent. And I am sure you can tell the difference.

    Great test! where there any difference between the 4 burrs in regards to grind clumps and grinding speed? would love some feedback on this please

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Clumping is not visible in all 4 burrs. That's the beauty of DF64. Speed wise ssp is definitely faster.

    What was the puck screen that you used? Do you find that it made a difference in water dispersion/channeling, and ultimately taste? (Not just a cleaner shower screen/process.)

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It definitely improves the way that water distribute on the puck as it doesn't not hit the puck with pump pressure and disturb the well prepared coffee bed.

      We ask our supplier to manufacturer it for us and for your information, I am using 1.7mm thick and 100 microns.

    Hi have an upcoming df64 gen 2 with stock dlc burrs incoming, how big of a difference will it be if ever I plan to upgrade to SSP HU burrs? I think I'll like shots with some body, sweetness, and some chocolatey/caramely notes.

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it will be better than the stock burrs for sure! I would suggest Lab Sweet if you like a more chocolatey and sweet espresso.

    Would the stock burr be capable of chocolaty/nutty flavor? Or will it be more for conical burr?

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chocolaty or nutty is actually due a roasting profile. It will give you a shot with more body and texture.

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roast and coffee type will definitely have more of an effect but I think the burrs do also have an effect on bringing out or hiding the roastier flavours, or at least making them come out more pleasant I guess?
      I think the cast burrs would be best for that, it's kind of like a conical burr to me, like a good decent / higher clarity conical burr anyway.

    So I'm a science educator and you mentioned you were going to do a blind taste test...that's not what you did. It was very much not blind and was very removed from what we would call double blind which would have been the most informative. A blind taste test would involve making sure the tasters don't know what they're drinking: this includes not knowing what burr is being tested and you told them what the burr was. So if they know anything about burrs, then that would influence the outcome. You shouldn't guide them and give feedback either because you'll influence what they'll think (even if you don't think you have influence). In a double blind, the person that drinks and the person that serves the coffee doesn't know what they're drinking/serving. Also, the person who made the shots and the person conducting the experiment would never appear to the tasters. Why is this done? To make sure the anyone involved isn't influencing the outcome due to their preferences. Edit: Looks like the blind taste will be in part 2...hope it goes well!

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks for the feedback! We are trying to do it such a way to tell the difference between the tasting of the shots made by different sets of burrs. We are doing for fun of testing ourselves to see if we can tell the coffee made by different sets of burrs. This is not a by all means an educational videos but a sharing of experiences. Hence please do understand that. Maybe we may have use a wrong term to do what we are doing but I think most of us will understand why we are doing this.
