    I did some survey about DF64 before I actually purchased it. Your video is the most helpful I've ever found. The spring adjust is so good. Thank you for your effort. Wish you can bring more.

      okay im here- my only question is in 4:46. My default white sleeve was actually pushed all the way up, not down, but was flush on the top of the spring. is that way or your way correct?
      i tried pushing the white sleeve all the way down as you said but it was hard tightening the collar. So i switched it back to default and it closed fine.
      also in my machine, i didnt have to manually screw in the screw and tighten the collar. it was already as tight as it was.

    One of the first things that I do with electric (burr) grinders is to check for oscillation/wobbling in the turning burr/carrier/shaft (without beans in chamber). If it is wobbling significantly, then the seller or manufacturer may need to be contacted.

    • @showmak

    • @NeverTakeNoCut-offs
      @NeverTakeNoCut-offs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience is that they all wobble quite a bit, at least relative to how far obsessive compulsive espresso people take these things. Perhaps I can start a TH-cam channel on testing the run out on espresso grinders, motors, and bearings.

    Great timing CY.
    Actually tried around 6 coffees in my DF-64 and noticed something. (tried size 55 to 65 past zero points with awesome results)
    For the first 2-3 coffees, the grinder had a lot of retention ~ 1g.
    I assumed this was normal or that I was too soft with the bellow. I found the grinder had very little spring-back action using the bellow.
    For coffee 4-5-6, pressing a little harder on the bellow got my coffee ground out and I got around 0.1g retention (that's good).
    However, after using the grinder I noticed my zero points "seem" to shift. What I suspected it that the spring was not all the way through (as you show on your "Part I | Burr Alignment | DF64
    " video. meaning the spring-back action is not strong enough to put the burr on his initial position. So I opened gently the grinder and I was right. All the three springs were in the middle of the silicon sleeve almost at the top like you said. I don't know why they don't check this at the factory as it should be an easy fix. Now my springs look like yours.
    So I removed the spring, aligned them with the sleeve like you did in the video at 12m 46sec, I ensured the springs are now flush with the silicon. Now the spring-back action is way stronger.
    The problem is when I try to put everything back on, it seems the springs have a lot more tension now (expected) and I just can't find the entry point of the collar.
    Haha, I may be crazy but it's been 30 minutes and I still can't find a way to screw the collar of the grinder so all is smooth when i try to screw it.
    I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I don't want to force anything. Tried to find the entry point at 8 and 9 o clock but it does not seem to work.
    Once I thought I got it around 4 o'clock, the collar was screwing but I made about only half a turn before there was resistance.
    In your video, you seem to screw the collar with one finger so I expect no resistance.
    Am I doing something wrong or is the entry point just really hard to find the first time ?
    I will align my burr later as I don't have markers right now, but I wanted to fix the spring sleeve for the bellow :).
    I hope I won't struggle like this every time I want to clean it.
    If you have any advice they are welcome, I am a little afraid of the top collar not screwing... it is my first burr grinder
    Thanks for the video CY.

    There are many tips and tricks through the video, so I suggest watching the full thing. But I find myself coming back, so here are the main timestamps:
    3:32 Disassemble the collar by turning anti-clockwise.
    4:03 Remove the metal part and the 3 springs underneath.
    4:17 Make sure that each spring is aligned with its plastic sleeve.
    5:46 Reassemble the metal part back and make sure that the springs are well reset.
    6:10 Reassemble the collar by slowly turning clockwise while pressing the metal part down. This should not require any force. It should require 4 full turns before it can not turn anymore.
    7:09 Find the zero point. With the power turned off, slightly loose the collar and turn the motor shaft with your fingers until the burrs don't touch each other. Mark this as your zero point with the arrow grind indicator. The espresso range is now near 15.
    10:21 Optional: season the burrs.
    11:41 Other mods, tips and tricks.

    Thank you CY. Just got mine yesterday bought as used but the previous owner just got it last July, so quite new. Initially I thought the zero marker was the “bean” logo on top of the spout. Now I know I have to manually find the zero mark myself. About the alignment and maintenance of this Grinder, do you have another video? Also what’s your opinion about some people spraying the beans with water before putting in the beans? Does the water effect the burrs in a bad way?

      @@CaffeMartellaSingapore one more thing, just tried to do the zero point this morning and wanted to ask, does the zero point is when the two burrs “start to contact” which each other which is very2 quite sound, or when they “fully in contact” but still can move and obviously make a sound that we can clearly hear

    • @Millilitree
      @Millilitree 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Muhammad.911 Slowly turn the grind setting until you can hear the grind making contact with each other. It doesn't matter if you play it safer but turning it ever so slightly anti-clockwise to ensure that the contact is as minimal as possible. It is also a good time to check that only the grind setting of zero(Just use a maker or imaginative line) is making the contact mentioned in the video, but coarser setting like 1 or 0.5 is making no sound.

    Hi, I have a question.
    My df64 arrived recently and after setting the springs flush with their collar the touching point was at about -3.
    After using it for aeropress today and trying to adjust finer the touch point then ended up at 30. I opened the collar and checked if the springs had moved but they were still fine. After screwing the collar back in the touch point is now at around 11 and no longer goes fine enough for espresso.
    Any ideas on why it keeps moving /how to fix it or do you think it's faulty? Thanks alot for your videos.

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Touch point should not move that much. I suspects there are beans or coarse ground that are trapped in between the burrs and preventing you from adjusting finer. Turn on the grinder and adjust until it goes back to zero point (where 2 burr touches and chirp) and try again.
