Anyway, I don’t intend on discounting your point about the embarrassingly low volume of exclusive games. It is amazing that Sony would have the intestinal fortitude to release a Pro version of the PS5 at this point.
Dude it’s not even a contest. Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are the biggest disappointments in the history of gaming. The consoles are fine. The lack of compelling software is absolutely pathetic. The Switch has delivered on every level imaginable and has FAR EXCEEDED my expectations of what it would be. Nintendo is the only company that brought it this generation.
This is why I'm not regretting getting a Series X instead of a PS5 this gen. At least on Xbox we have Gamepass + all the 3rd party games + it's backward compatible with about 90% of the best X360 titles... I don't hate Sony, I just think they're not what they used to be.

@@dapperfan44 that was more a historical accident. Since the PS3 was so complicated, the PS4 couldn’t be backwards compatible so a lot of games had to be “remastered”, a trend that unfortunately is leading the current generation. The only difference is that the PS4 actually had a bunch of exclusives
The only thing that shines about the PS5 is that it is backwards-compatible with most PS4 games. If you own a PS5, then you don't need a PS4. The flaws: 1. The standard PS5 controllers suffer have thumbstick drift, the original PS5 models (Both disc and digital versions) have 825 gigabytes of internal storage and that's not enough memory for huge-file PS4 and PS5 games! 2. You need PlayStation Plus Premium needed to play PS1, PS2, PS3, Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable) and PS Vita games on a PS5 and that is stupid. 3. Sony won't make more external memory cards for today's online PlayStation consoles. 4. Sony wants too much money for their PlayStation Plus subscriptions. And 5. Part of the blame is on developers for not wanting to get off PS4 and game development in 2024. Lack on innovation or willing to take risk on new ideas and when games don't hit ridiculous sales numbers, layoff the entire studio rinse and repeat. Having a PS5 to basically play PS4 focused developed games, what is the point.

The infrastructure of modern console gaming is terrible. Just the fact that there is so much Nickle and diming, over monetization, lack of ownership, quality, etc have all combined to make me abandon console gaming this generation. I tried after missing PS4 and I was excited to return, but after a year and a half I realized why I abandoned console gaming a while ago.
The fact that 99% of games offers 60fps at 1080p or up scaled 2k with vrr was enough of a generational leap for me. Games on a console never looked better regardless of cross gen
Really, I'd agree that PS5 is the worst PS console. My order would be 2, 1, 3, 4, 5. The last few gens have gotten progressively worse as Sony pulls farther and farther away from what made PS great to begin with. This goes for both the hardware and software. I keep feeling like it's getting harder and harder to justify spending my time on my PS5.

Ps3 worked out some kinks but i still play mine as much as the PS4 and ps5. To me there all sorta relative. Trophies all end up on the same list. Ps3 had so many cool games and no sweet baby incfestation
the original Sony PlayStation will always be the best PlayStation console ever. The amount of variety is just out of this world. It brought us games like Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, the excellent Tekken arcade ports, Persona, Soul Edge, the Twisted Metal games, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Suikoden, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Silent Hill etc. All iconic games. PS2 will always be the second best, followed by the PS4, PS3 and lastly PS5. Graphics isn't everything. The problem with PS5 is the lack of exclusive games, too much live service, more games are release broken on the console and the controller's stick drift issue.
IMO, Ken Kutaragi was PlayStation. His departure in 2006 was the start of the brand's descent into stagnation. That's when you had this fundamental shift away from it being a Japanese console towards it being a Western one. Which made sense given sales figures. And you had some good games out of that move. But they started settling into this formula that they now can't seem to escape from. That formula has gotten very tired at this point. They've also adopted many of the industry's worst habits. Meanwhile, you look at Nintendo's first and second party output. Large variety of games from a broad variety of genres. 2D & 3D platformers, turn-based RPGs, sRPGs, MMO style RPG, RTS, puzzle, board game, fighting, hack & slash, first person shooter, metroidvania, third-person open world, adventure, brawler, sports, racing, online arena. There's something for everyone. All of which are Switch exclusives. All of which are very high quality, don't wade into culture war crap, and aren't infested with monetization. This is what Sony needs to be doing. They used to have it back in the PS2 days.
I am an old school gamer , first console was the Intellevision lol i remember resident evil and destruction derby on ps one was amazing but the truth is the n64 had more responsive controls than the ps5 lmao the goldn age of gamer is over fellow nerds and gamers :(
Despite being happy at first to get a PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch during the pandemic... I am mostly regretting the PS5 and could have held off on that because outside of Miles Morales... I am not really playing new exclusive games for PS5. It is the real dust collector for me. PS3 got a lot of use for a lot of things back in the day, mostly as a media player but I still played games on it... and each generation was less and less played till we're at PS5 and I am beginning to realize on a fundamental level, I am really not a playstation gamer.
I kind of want to make a YT channel now and just make one video dedicated to why the PS5 launch window is better than the PS1 or PS2 and send the video to you just for the shear meme of it all.
I have ps2 ps3 and ps5 I see no need to pay $550 for a system that have very little to offer in terms of good games to play Graphics is not everything the ps4 games are quite good if Sony really want fans to buy their consoles they need to do more than a few tweak for the cost
In my humble opinion, what I see is that the better the graphics the lacking the game itself is in story and other things. Yeah, these games look like movies and all that but the stories aren’t great and there isn’t much replay-ability to them. I think that what’s folks gravitate (as do I) to older games because yeah they’re not the “best” looking but boy do the stories and character development and game suck you in. So the only options (with a few exceptions) one has is either a game service or a 60% done game sold at full price that “looks” amazing but has not meat on it.🤷🏻♂️
I play a lot of fps games and I turn off cross play just so I don’t have to worry about all the cheating and the hackers that’s why I like the consul using Cronus isn’t as bad as wall hacks and aim bots so yeah, I stay away from PC players
I found last year, when Spider-man 2 released on PS5 and the slim model of the console had the game bundled together, was the right time for me to make a purchase. With Stellar Blade and FFVII Rebirth coming out and games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal already available, I decided to finally jump on board. I do agree that there is a drought of games especially exclusives that you CANNOT find on PC, but hopefully that will change soon. I do not regret purchasing it, but you can definitely see the difference in the amount of exclusive/quality titles that have released since the system launched in late 2020. Very sad. My ranking for the consoles goes as follows: PS2, PS1, PS3, PS4, PS5
I held off on buying the PS5 until GT7 released. Then I got bored after a few months and walked away. The only thing that saved it for me was PSVR2. I have exactly 2 games for PS5. GT7 and RE4 remake which I play in VR.
When you made your comment "we're at the point of diminishing returns", I yelled YES! I think that is the major reason why Gen 9 is not selling as well as the previous generations. The hardware is good. It's time for the industry to start focusing more on the software. Another great video, RGT. Thanks for the content.

I think one topic not covered with the Launch of the ps5 is covid. When it was launched there wasn't enough produced due to the costs of goods at the time and when everyone was at home etc the demand when through the roof for it which caused it not to be readily available for almost two years after it was released. I think that really hurt the PS5 launch and has still hurt them to this day IMO
I can't wait to see what people can do with the PS4 Pro- I'm picking one up very soon. Plan on using it as my PS2, and then using my PS3 as my PS1(which I never had). Didn't realize that some of the PS2 games (like Time Crisis 2) need tweaked for PS3.
It was the same with the PS2 and its DVD player. I knew way too many people who bought one early on and never even played a game on it just because it was cheaper than the competition for DVD players.
As someone who hadn't played Playstation since the PS2, I just swapped my Xbox Series X for a PS5 and I couldn't be happier. I have a PC so I can still jump on GamePass when I want, but mostly I'm playing catch up with Sony's back catalog. I agree on the lack of PS5 exclusives though.
I only bought my PS5 because my PS4 broke. I've gotten more use out of it as a 4k blu ray player. Graphics are barely different. Load times are good though
By comparison, for the PS4 there were just under 50 exclusive games released within the same amount of time in the console’s life (3.7 years) For the PS3, same 3.7 years there were between 60 and 70 exclusive games released. For the PlayStation 2, at the same point in lifecycle there were well over 100 exclusives at the 3.7 year mark. So the output of games has decreased with increased development complexity and cost of development. Timed exclusivity changes the game in terms of having an apples to apples comparison to the other PlayStation consoles. But I would think one could argue that it would be less than 30 games exclusive to PS5. (Considering indie titles). If we are looking at PS5 exclusive first party that means 7? Pretty poor showing for Sony this generation.
I hate my PS5. It was expensive to buy, it's ugly to look at, the shape makes it hard to pack, the games are more expensive, you have to install every game on a limited HD, games all have day 1 patches that require internet, you have to pay for PS+ for multiplayer on-line games, new controllers are expensive, it generates too much heat, and cooling fans are loud as heck! I have only used it for exclusives and it mostly collects dust.
Imho ps4 and even more so for the 5 are being hindered by time to make new games. When you look back at older consoles a generation could easily have a top tier trilogy. Nowadays franchises get one entry or games are developed for long term live service. This is really causing people to focus more on timelines and how many exclusives are coming. Also cost to develop games increasing has created mor studio closures and consolidation of the industry.
PS5 gave us lightning fast load times, 4k/60fps, new controller functions and also suffered from covid during the launch. Sadly it’s still the worst generation so far even though it’s given us so much…also the ‘modern gaming landscape’ is much to blame for the games but there are still a handful of bangers from this generation.
I said this the year it came out… everyone got pissed and emotional over my comments. I sold my ps5 and haven’t missed it. I don’t think the Xbox is any better

My PS3 is a backwards compatible fat boy, so it is the best. PS3 had PS1, PS2, home and digital games and vita. It also played Blu-ray. No other console can boast the same and cannot hold a candle to it. I enjoy all my consoles but cannot deny that the PS3 was on continuously for the entire first year of launch. The difference is much smaller between generations if you consider the mid-gen refreshes of Xbox One X and PS4 pro , which took us to 4K and quasi 4K gaming. That took a lot of the edge off of 9th Gen.
It’s just called a PS5 for marketing. Essentially, it’s the best PS4 sony has ever made
Then PS4 was the best PS3, because it also had a lot of cross-gen games.
If you play a PS3 on a good native 720p TV it looks downright amazing at times, playing the BF4 campaign right now and pretty amazed how it looks
The PS3 looked bad in 2014 but now the graphics aged really well Motorstorm and Tekken 6 look crazy good
The only thing that shines about the PS5 is that it is backwards-compatible with most PS4 games. If you own a PS5, then you don't need a PS4. The flaws:
And 5. Sony wants too much money for their PS5 games, PS5 controllers and other peripherals.
Nintendo has the same problem. Everything is overpriced over there.
Ps4 is still relevant but I sure had fun with my PS2 and wasn't worried about the PS3 and now with my ps4 am not worried about the PS5 anymore.

Part of the blame is on developers for not wanting to get off PS4 and game development in 2024. Really, I'd agree that PS5 is the worst PS console. My order would be 2, 1, 3, 4, 5. the original Sony PlayStation will always be the best PlayStation console ever.
This Sony and XBox generation is so bad it spells doom for the next generation of their consoles.

I have ps2 ps3 and ps5 I see no need to pay $550 for a system that have very little to offer in terms of good games to play
Graphics is not everything the ps4 games are quite good if Sony really want fans to buy their consoles they need to do more than a few tweak for the cost

Very sad. By comparison, for the PS4 there were just under 50 exclusive games released within the same amount of time in the console’s life (3.7 years)
For the PS3, same 3.7 years there were between 60 and 70 exclusive games released.
Yeah people should just keep they money and buy ps4
Imho ps4 and even more so for the 5 are being hindered by time to make new games. When you look back at older consoles a generation could easily have a top tier trilogy. Nowadays franchises get one entry or games are developed for long term live service. This is really causing people to focus more on timelines and how many exclusives are coming. Also cost to develop games increasing has created mor studio closures and consolidation of the industry.
This generation sucks!
