Pears soap is still a makeup artist staple. Wet a spoolie and use it to set eyebrows, it’s wonderful and SO inexpensive!

Turned 77 last month. I grew up on beauty magazines always looking for hints to calm my oily teenager skin. I used a clay mask made by Dorothy Gray. My first lipstick came inside the fulcrum of a Coty compact. My favorite foundation was the water activated Max Factor Pan Cake which didn't add any creamy glow to my already oily skin. Beginning in the '70s I started going to Elizabeth Arden beauty classes held at a local department store. For $25, which went toward later purchases, you received a big box of EA products in trial sizes. It was a bargain. The Arden representatives would come around to each lady providing instructions and access to all products and color choices. I think I went every year until the store closed. Wonderful videos Laura.♿👵 Barb N.

When I met my husband, he was 26, just a few years older than me. I recall stepping into his apartment bathroom and he had Oil of Olay on his sink. Close to 30 years later, he still uses Oil of Olay and buys multiples so he never runs out. I tried to get our kids to moisturize, pointing out how their father looks younger than me now because of Oil of Olay! Thank you for this fun and informative video.

I use Estee Lauder and Dr. Erno Laszlo's products mentioned in the video. My grandma got me hooked on Estee Lauder. She wore Youth Dew and many cosmetics from Estee Lauder. This was a very glamorous era that I just love.

Hi Laura, I love the stylish, glamorous 50's ! I was born in the 50's,and my mother was so elegant with her red lipstick, and auburn hair. Women really took pride with their appearance. The cosmetic companies didn't scrimp with their packaging (pretty metal, gold ,"bullet" lipstick tubes, some with gems.Elegant designed pressed powder compacts). These days everything is minimalist....very unglamorous, but eco friendly. I miss the joy of purchasing a new cosmetic in a pretty container. Beauty salons had dividers between clients...now when getting your hair styled, you are front and center stage ! No privacy,no glamour ! Yes, the old days had it's problems, but it sure was a more stylish era ! People cared about their appearance. I used to have nightmares that I went to school in my pajamas, now grown adults shop in their pajamas, and students attend school in their pajamas ! We had a dress code when I went to school, and would be sent home if not followed. I just don't get it.... Could you do an episode on perfumes from the 50's that are no longer available ? I love the designs of old perfume bottles too ! Thank You ! Cindy

So true. People used to care about their appearance now there are so many Inwant to give them a bar of soap. Men also looked neat and put together. I was born in 1950 and remember as I was growing up my mother and her red lipstick also how she took such good care of us her children. Loved my ivory soap baths

Born in the 50's too, and love the 1910's -1960's products period too. I couldn't care less how people dress or wear makeup nowadays, but the graphics and history of cosmetics , perfumes and skincare 60 plus years ago are simply the best!

A vintage brand that many people don’t talk about is Merle Norman. It has modernized a lot but there are many beauty products that have remained the same since the 1950s. Its powder base foundation, cleansing cream, blush rouge cream, sheer face powder and mirocol mask are all original formulas.

I started using Pond’s Cold Cream after learning about it from your channel and Sage Lilleyman’s channel. I realized that I had seen it before but didn’t know the significance. I fell in love with it after massaging it into my face the first time. It makes my skin feel so soft and refreshed. I just have to make sure to take it off properly so it doesn’t make my skin greasy afterward. I just discovered Pond’s wipes as well and I love them.

The 1950s was such an elegant era. I love the movies, fashion and music. It’s really interesting that when you did the videos of beauty products from the 70s, 80s and 90s I didn’t know most of them. I think there must have been a lot that were only available in America. But I still see all except 2 of the brands from this video and use several of them today; Estée Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Revlon, Nivea and Clarins. 50s beauty must have been truly revolutionary and good quality for so much of it to still be thriving today. More so than any other era I think.

Laura, I love how your face is always dewy. I love the blouse you're wearing, and I like the retro look of this video with the, how do you say, the "old film" look with the black vertical lines moving about. I use Noxema to this day, as it cleans and is moisturizing. I use Pond's dry skin moisturizer (blue cap) mainly because I have hard water, and the Pond's soothes my face. I love Nivea on my feet and elbows lol. I use to use that Coty airspun, in the 80s in highschool. I need to revisit that.

The old style Oil of Olay was so, so awful for my skin. Every time I tried to use it, my face would burn and turn bright red. I guess this was pretty common, because they eventually came out with a lotion for sensitive skin and then other formations (which I can use, though I have other moisturisers I like better, including Nivea cream).
