Drives me nuts how people have to be sheep. But it drives me more nuts how people have to be so cruel to people who dont want to follow a trend.
@@cloed0llThat was so messed up 😢Nobody carried how that could make Bey feel or how it could have possibly made the other 2 members feel . People make me sick!
This is well observed! It’s one reason I love watching British TV. Great actors that look like real people. If I see a show (usually American) where everyone looks like a model I usually don’t watch, because it feels so formulaic.
I also think it's really sad that even Madonna has "instagram face" now. She has totally erased her unique beauty and style. She used to start trends, and was eye catching in her individuality... now she is following trends. It looks like she is trying to look like a Kardashian. The "instagram face" might as well be called "the Kardashian face" because it seems like they really started the template. Especially Kim.
This is sad. Like, it made the diversity/inclusion speech become hypocritical. I see on Instagram, many models who live in Dubai seem to be identical twins. I don’t know if there’s actually a standard there, but that’s what it looks like. God created us so perfectly diverse which is so good and beautiful. We aren’t supposed to look the same, but to be unique!
Those "soap brows" where they lay all the hairs flat but VERTICAL looks so ridiculous. A girl came in to my work with that today and i couldn't even look at her
This is exactly what I needed today!!! Finished my first final exam, waiting for the next one in a couple hours, this is PERFECT for my study break! I think that people need to remember that our own faces are SUPPOSED to be unique, hundreds of generations of people led to the person you are today and the way you look, and that’s super special. All the excessive plastic surgery and filters makes strangers look like siblings sometimes!
I’m at the point where I’d rather emulate old Hollywood and have an actual face and a body, like respectfully, some of these women had wrinkles on their faces and rolls on their belly while posing in bikini photos. It makes me feel okay and beautiful, and I look to that era as opposed to my own because I’m so sick of the sameness of today.
This is such an important topic. We need to find our own individuality and stop mindlessly following others. You can have inspiration, but make it yours. That’s what makes you special
What are they actually famous for, besides having plastic surgery and talking about themselves? I saw some really old footage from when they were young teenagers and you wouldn't recognise them for the same people.
Being yourself doesn't pay the bills anymore... this isn't the 90's. It means well, but I think you should understand why this generation has this sudden need to maximise beauty, status, wealth, everything instead of pretending society was perfect until now and like today isn't a direct result of all the actions and consequences from the past.
I purposely never learned how to use filters and when i take a photo for posting, i just go with it!Authenticity is a core value of mine.🤷🏾♀️ i truly dont understand people wanting to present themselves as different looking than they actually look. Its sad and untruthful... a reflection of their character.
You articulated this very well. I was impressed with your insight. I am 63 years old and was a teenager in the1970s, so I grew up in an era where there was more natural beauty. I always thought the celebrities in the old days were more beautiful, but I could never put my finger on why that was, but you nailed it! I miss the old days. Anyway, great report.
There's a Twilight Zone episode where everyone got to choose the model they wanted to look like for their 18th Birthday ritual! It was supposed to be an exciting event. They had a choice of about 5 models. One girl refused and fled screaming, stating she wanted to look like her own unique self. She was drugged and forced to undergo the cosmetic transformation. Once she woke up and saw how flawless she looked she was brainwashed to accept the cloned look! :P
I tell my daughter just catch them out in public without the filters and apps on todays celebs … yeaaa they are just like us ! Ignore the social media pics and magazines they don’t look like that . Normal skin isn’t flawless and really our “flaws” is the exact thing that makes us beautiful and unique . Natural and healthy will always be beautiful … never follow anyone , trends can destroy you .
I don’t know if it’s just me but in some movies I sometimes mix up characters (that don’t have much screen time) that look too similar to each other (features, style, etc.). I agree with you, it’s so nice when watch older movies and the characters look so different from each other and have a more distinct style.
I have a huge problem with this! Thought it was just me, happens with both women and men, mostly in newer movies. Saw one last night where the protagonist and antagonist looked the same, both tall slender men in their 30s with short dark hair, scruffy beards, wore suits, had similar voices ... it was so confusing.
Ooohhh, saw an ad for Revlon’s color Fire and Ice! I still have a bottle of that classic color in their nail polish, as well as Cherries in the Snow - two fabulous reds!
I got braces at 27 to correct an actual medical issue (born missing an adult tooth, had to move teeth around to make space for an implant) and while I know it was the right choice for me in the long term with the implant, I am so surprised that I have found myself missing my “old” teeth on several occasions. I didn’t have super crooked teeth naturally, but they weren’t perfect, and they were ME. I’m really sad that I’m losing that character in the process of fixing something necessary.
I went on vacation last year with my parents and when we went to the mall. I remember my mom asking why everyone looked the same 😂 i looked around and she was right, same clothes too. I remember when i was young everyone wanted new shirts at justice and new accessories at claires, i miss those times!!!
While I like enjoyed the video and agree with some of the sentiments, I’m gonna have to disagree with the notion that “the past embraced individuality more than now”. In the past, people very much looked similar to each other in each decade, from wearing the same kind of fashion and engaging in the same beauty trends (which you touched on in the video)-now beauty and style has broadened thanks to social media and globalization. So in short, the reason why we may believe that past stars were more unique is because they were the ones who broke that homogeneous mold. And that is the reason why we now see surplus of different types of beauty. Because there is so much, it reduces the “individuality” aspect.
Agreed. ANY time I see a post online comparing the past more positively with today, I could make the same video in reverse. I think women are "allowed" to be more diverse in their looks today than in the past. Socially, you're rewarded for following trends of the era. But I feel like the more diversity you're around, the more different versions of beauty you see. I felt there was one very clear way to dress and be pretty when I was younger. But living in different places, being a part of different cultures, that changed my perception of beauty. Maybe it's getting older and embracing my beauty too.
@@maedesmond2461 THIS. A lot of people here don't care to get to know society past what the literal news outlets show, of the same few celebs doing the rounds, so they wouldn't *ever* see the huge, growing communities of millions embracing different subcultures, styles, historical, or regional beauty standards. This video could've reached an audience that was open-minded but the comments are so disappoining, clearly the other side of the beauty standards-horseshoe is just as near-sighted and simpleminded as the "Kardashian-following" one.
Love my natural red hair and never dyed it. As I age it will eventually go white like my father's hair and I cannot wait for that. I will become a white witch and that will be a lot of fun to embrace. Be proud of what you inherited and I totally agree, give less time to social media. Spend more time doing other things. I find we are too obsessed with looking at ourselves now.
Everyone is trying to look like the Kardashians these days, I never understand this, the Kardashians were never really beautiful in my eyes to begin with.
You make some great points. I'm 67 yo and I was in HS in early 1970's. I never wore makeup except for special occasions (just some blush, mascara and lipstick). I took good care of my skin. I had full eyebrows and never fellt the need to change them. Young people today don't seem to embrace their individuality. Great video!
But old Hollywood Stars did conform to beauty standards of their day. Rita Hayworth was mentioned and shown but she had her hairline raised via electrolysis.
Yh but Rita being forced to get a hair lift to erase her romani Latin heritage in the 40s isn't the same as women voluntarily having extreme surgeries to all look like clones.
A lot of people have such a similar face, ie : movie stars . I basically love my face as I can change it up with make up, my hair colour, hair style. I can make up different make up looks and copy of other people's styles and turn them into my own. Marilyn, grace, Madonna, Audrey, Elizabeth they all had very unique looks and Styles. That is what I base all my looks on ❤❤❤❤. Such a great video!!!!!
As someone with some degree of prosopagnosia, faces with a stand-out unique feature are easier for me to perceive and remember. To me, these are the beautiful faces. I am totally clueless about stars and influencers today because the homogenity makes them all a blur to me.
This is so true. The only reason beauty wasn't that way in the 20th century WASN'T because they had better "morals" or something. The technology wasn't there to get to the extreme ideal they wanted to, like we can today. Once people realise society was *always* flawed, for reasons to do with holding up the status quo, we will stop wondering constantly why things are the way they are, and we'll actually do something about it! And it's nothing to do with beauty - beauty standards are a reflection of what the society holds dear and values.
That’s what I think all the time. I don’t know how people are able to recognise who is who when everyone looks like they all share the same parents🤦🏾♀️
Great video. The cutesy vintage ads at the beginning were the start of it and now it’s progressed to the gross standards we have today. They contributed
I disagree with the premise that somehow the past was more in tune with individuality. Yes, by today's standards, they accepted more "flaws" or diversity in terms of looks, but we can still clearly see trends embodied by sex-symbols and beauty queens. I think what can attest to this is that we automatically recognize from what decade each picture is from. So yes, from our point of view, they were "breaking the rules", but it's only a culture so rigid as ours that would make the past seem as more forgiving of flaws and individuality. Homogeneity is simply more accessible now, so people turn to it.
@@alisonmercer5946exactly. Back then diversity was shunned and it wasn’t until the 70s and 80s when beauty was more diversified. And even with the standout beauties, people the majority of the time looked the “same”.
All of the ‘natural faces’ you’re referring to had cosmetic surgery, often multiple procedures, it was just more personalised. Everyone from the time of silent movies has had a rhinoplasty at the very least.
Now im in my 70s and are constantly getting flyers from plastic surgeon offices. They go straight in the trash; i dont ever plan to get face lifts to look young
To explain each decade you explained the mould, we have always tried to fit into a mould, the difference is the women you discussed with the trendsetters and the mould that everyone tried to fit in.
I have always been mocked for my unusual looks. It took leaving my youth behind and this dull current beauty trend for me to like my unconventional looks. Women must stop buying into this BS. It's exhausting, time consuming and just another corset. Important video. Thank you. ❤

I kinda feel like it’s starting to change a lil, of course insta face is still a thing but i feel like more people and some celebrities stats to embrace unique look again, like Doja Cat,Chappell Roan and Doechii. I feel like we’re on a time where things are more superficiel than ever but also people slowly start to get sick of fashion, as beautiful as it is , it has always toxic and created discriminations. However i will always love the creative part of fashion ^^
Out of everyone from back then, Diana Ross, is the only one that didn't change their face, she aged gracefully. everyone else had work done. Audrey Hepburn was beautiful until her passing.
Beauty is art, and art lies in perspectives. Humans just need to remember they are human and stop trying to become machines; then they can return to creativity and expression. This is what makes them truly unique.

My cousins are much older today, they have children of their own and have passed down the same advice, meaningful quotes and personal experiences onto their children. I've gathered with them and none of them follow today's beauty standards. I'm really happy! And will do so when I also have my own children. 😊
@@hameley12 Wow! That's wonderful! It just goes to show us that children really do pay attention. Your Aunt Clarise left a beautiful legacy! You will do the same, which is one of the greatest gifts you can give!💕
I’m glad everyone is looking the same. My beauty only shines that much more
ugh i love this. exactly.
Ooooooooooooooo; love that!!!!❤
What annoys me the most is that all in my early teen years (early 2000s) i was bullied for having naturally very plump lips and having this hourglass shaped body only for everyone to do a complete 180 a couple years later and attempt to look like this themselves simply because a celebrity made it popular. Drives me nuts how people have to be sheep. But it drives me more nuts how people have to be so cruel to people who dont want to follow a trend.
And that is the woman of COLORS experience 😢
@@DemureDarlingssaid it best. Reminds me of how Beyonce back then got shamed for having more curves than Kelly and Michelle. Ridiculous.
@@cloed0llThat was so messed up 😢Nobody carried how that could make Bey feel or how it could have possibly made the other 2 members feel . People make me sick!
Which is why it is insane that some people would permanently alter their faces and body for trends that are only temporary.
@@cloed0ll??? Huh?? Who shamed Beyonce over her figure!? When? You literally just made that up.
This is well observed! It’s one reason I love watching British TV. Great actors that look like real people. If I see a show (usually American) where everyone looks like a model I usually don’t watch, because it feels so formulaic.
I have thought the same!
Good luck on your exams
I’m at the point where I’d rather emulate old Hollywood and have an actual face and a body, like respectfully, some of these women had wrinkles on their faces and rolls on their belly while posing in bikini photos. It makes me feel okay and beautiful, and I look to that era as opposed to my own because I’m so sick of the sameness of today.
Me tok
Same! When I was in high school I always loved the 40s 50s and emulated my hair like veronica lake
This is such an important topic. We need to find our own individuality and stop mindlessly following others. You can have inspiration, but make it yours. That’s what makes you special
Exactly!
I agree. Only we have always been a copycat species 😂 people now are more apt to following the crowd

It seems like a lot of the celebrities and models nowadays look like human bratz dolls .
Also the newscasters. They have that wave of hair in the front, or they try to.
So true!
Consumerism! That’s how big corporations including beauty brands and cosmetic medicine are selling us a “standard”
Am I the only one that thinks The Kardashians and Jenners are unattractive? If thats the beauty standard I want nothing to do with it.
Well they are just super fake with surgery and it’s getting boring
They can never compare to Marilyn Monroe
Yes. I think they're just 'plain Janes', because there's nothing interesting about them.
What are they actually famous for, besides having plastic surgery and talking about themselves? I saw some really old footage from when they were young teenagers and you wouldn't recognise them for the same people.
Yes indeed.
there's a sign making the rounds in schools nowadays: Be yourself because everyone else is taken.
I often watch movies from the 1950-1960s, and the women and men, children are so simple, yet beautiful.
I purposely never learned how to use filters and when i take a photo for posting, i just go with it!Authenticity is a core value of mine.🤷🏾♀️ i truly dont understand people wanting to present themselves as different looking than they actually look. Its sad and untruthful... a reflection of their character.
You don't need filters you go girl!❤
I agree
And you are beautiful❤
You articulated this very well. I was impressed with your insight. I am 63 years old and was a teenager in the1970s, so I grew up in an era where there was more natural beauty. I always thought the celebrities in the old days were more beautiful, but I could never put my finger on why that was, but you nailed it! I miss the old days. Anyway, great report.
But they were also truly gorgeous!
The '70s were cool. We were individuals then.
I should've realized this a long time ago
As a woman who struggled with acne in my teenage years(still have the scars)
Yes I desire beautiful and smooth skin
Try black soap and raw white shea butter from Whole Foods! Thank me later!

There's a small movement of ppl who are IGNORING the kardashians rn and many ppl are becoming sick of them so ...maybe?

Interesting
Yep absolutely
Great video! I agree that people should accept the traits in them that makes them unique and beautiful.
It’s so refreshing to hear that.
I don’t know if it’s just me but in some movies I sometimes mix up characters (that don’t have much screen time) that look too similar to each other (features, style, etc.). I agree with you, it’s so nice when watch older movies and the characters look so different from each other and have a more distinct style.
My husband says the same thing
I have a huge problem with this! Thought it was just me, happens with both women and men, mostly in newer movies. Saw one last night where the protagonist and antagonist looked the same, both tall slender men in their 30s with short dark hair, scruffy beards, wore suits, had similar voices ... it was so confusing.
Oh Laura, this is so very true. One day people will all look back and lament what they have done, its very vulgar.
Ooohhh, saw an ad for Revlon’s color Fire and Ice! I still have a bottle of that classic color in their nail polish, as well as Cherries in the Snow - two fabulous reds!
Revlon made the best REDS.
@@gerismith1218I love rum raisin. So pretty.
My cousin who got braces said exactly this.
I went on vacation last year with my parents and when we went to the mall. I remember my mom asking why everyone looked the same 😂 i looked around and she was right, same clothes too. I remember when i was young everyone wanted new shirts at justice and new accessories at claires, i miss those times!!!
My fiancée told me this years ago, he reassured me that my look to him is exotic and he loves that I don’t look the same as everyone else
Beauty is less about having a specific look or physical feature, and more about the way you carry yourself.
Because there is so much, it reduces the “individuality” aspect.
lol. Now is a literal imitation of all ( or largely ) My Generation's, Demography's, Culture's Styles.
Nothing '' broadened ''.
Other eras had way more different types of beauty.
@@Ritff666l-e9e agree to disagree. Though I do agree that vintage beauties stand out more
You are soooo right! I was only thinking today that so many young women just look the same to me. I just thought it was because I'm getting older.
Thank you for this video! It’s a positive reminder that embracing your unique beauty will make the world a more beautiful and Interesting place.
Great comment!
I love this content its soo interesting and yes everyone's looks are duplicated over and over and now there is nobody unique anymore.
Yay!
Most of us don’t look like this. This is the look of the Capital (Hunger Games)
Hear! Hear! You hit the nail on the head. Today's mannequin look reflects the shallowness inside. Miss the individuality of yesteryears.
It is a commentary of the times that beauty standards in some parts of the world, like South Korea, are achievable only via surgical procedures.
They did. But most people didn’t have access, so in the real world, there was more variety.
The studio made her do that.
I like unique looks! My hubby told me I look exotic that made my day.
I am sick of nude lip trend. Everyone is behind it and its so unexciting
And beige everything. Ugh.
I really don’t like nude lips trend! It sucks
You are an excellent example of unique, natural beauty. I was a model in the 80's. It was completely different then.
As someone with some degree of prosopagnosia, faces with a stand-out unique feature are easier for me to perceive and remember. To me, these are the beautiful faces. I am totally clueless about stars and influencers today because the homogenity makes them all a blur to me.
There's a name for it! Thank you!
How can you act if your face never moves? How can you convey emotion?
I know lol it’s crazy
Someone pointed that out about Lindsey Lohan in one of her newest movies 😅
Casting agents have actually started avoiding actors who have had botox for that very reason.
Let's hope the Madame Trousseau look and glow in the dark teeth are on their way out.
That's my main problems when actors do it. It hard to believe it what the actor is trying portray when all you see how weird they look.
Totally agree I miss the ‘quirks’ like Barbara Streisands nose & old Hollywood actresses uniqueness ✨
Symmetry and clear skin has always been beautiful. It projects an image of health.
Excellent point
This is so true. The only reason beauty wasn't that way in the 20th century WASN'T because they had better "morals" or something. The technology wasn't there to get to the extreme ideal they wanted to, like we can today.
Once people realise society was *always* flawed, for reasons to do with holding up the status quo, we will stop wondering constantly why things are the way they are, and we'll actually do something about it! And it's nothing to do with beauty - beauty standards are a reflection of what the society holds dear and values.
My husband went to the superbowl last year in Vegas and was amazed at how many women looked the same.
Men do too.
Dive into the kpop industry. Everyone literally looks the same
That’s what I think all the time. I don’t know how people are able to recognise who is who when everyone looks like they all share the same parents🤦🏾♀️

The cutesy vintage ads at the beginning were the start of it and now it’s progressed to the gross standards we have today.

@@Kat-cg9hrI couldn't agree more with you dear Kat 💗💗
@BrightAngelJoana Young but wise I love it.
I agree
This. This is making out like every other decade was so accepting of diversity is hilarious
@@alisonmercer5946exactly. Back then diversity was shunned and it wasn’t until the 70s and 80s when beauty was more diversified. And even with the standout beauties, people the majority of the time looked the “same”.

True. And Barbara Streisand faced a lot of criticism about her nose even though she was Stunning and above all, talented.
All of the ‘natural faces’ you’re referring to had cosmetic surgery, often multiple procedures, it was just more personalised. Everyone from the time of silent movies has had a rhinoplasty at the very least.
