I have just replaced the hinges both doors on my fiat 500 using this video as a guide. I'd normally pay a mechanic to do this kind of work, so I am saying a big thank you. This cost me £5 for the parts and just my time instead of couple of hundred. The video is really easy to follow and doesn't need any special equipment.
As a 20 year old girl with her first ever car and no experience with any type of handiwork this video helped me so much and saved me £60 that the garage was gonna charge me! 😊
Excellent vid, thanks! I just did the passenger side of my wife's 500 sport, at 102,000 miles. I did the driver side around 5 years ago but needed a refresher. Well done!
Thanks very much. I was able to fix mine without any aggro after watching your video. I managed to not have to remove fully the main handle at the rear by using a small no2 pozi screwdriver bit and a 1/4" spanner to turn it. There was just enough room to remove and replace the screw. Thanks again. Martin.
Thanks!! Great video with great insight. Door handle hinge on my Abarth broke a few months ago and this video was easy to follow along to fix. One note: mine is 2013 Abarth / US. That side door jamb screw isn’t a T30 on my car. More like T15. And soft metal, very easy to strip that screw head. :(
Hi Nico - Had no issues whatsoever - works a treat - I go from the Algarve to Lisbon at least twice a month, best thing I have done, makes the motorway so much better.
If we can do it you will have no problem 😌 … we used red rubber grease, for no real reason, other than it’s inert .. any old grease will do … the red rubber comes in small tubes , saves buying a massive tub, just something better than a spray type WD40 will do the trick … best of luck 🤞🏼
@@DrivenMadShow all done and dusted today with no calamities in about 2 hours or so, thank you very much for the video! Makes working on cars for the first time feel a lot less daunting and saves money that doesn’t need to be spent 👍
Panda one, chopped in for the Abarth - Panda two flogged and we just spaffed the cash 🕺 on coffee and buns - JEEP sold bought a newer L200 auto, that blew up a week after I bought it and is still having a new engine fitted ( not seen it this year ) and the Queen B Merc is just to get me about while waiting for my L200 to be repaired - problem 😩 I bloody love this B class - really love it - it is our car of choice, the Tcross has not turned a key for ages, even the urban ninja takes it dogging 🫣
Refresh my memory if wrong - the only bit I recall is the scratch protector that sits inside the handle between it and the door, so the handle does not rub against the paint.
He left yesterday for a few days up a mountain (doing whatever you do in the cold, not for me 😎 a heat fanatic, old bones !) I will ask him to let you know, I cannot 100% tell you as he has an ever expanding watch collection with a few Tissot's in it - he is back mid next week.
Hi there, not sure exactly the model but this number is on the casing, L890/990k If you put that in google it comes up 👍 It’s one of my favourite watches. Thanks for the comment!
Too many coincidences between me and you mate… I’m looking to replace door handle on a fiat 500 drivers side which my girlfriend owns also we got same tissot watch 🤣
@@DrivenMadShow yes they are nice to look at but seems to be always sufferig mechanical issues. My wife loves her 500 I just wish it was a bit more reliable

That’s a great result! Glad we could help. It’s also satisfying knowing you did it yourself.

Where didi you purchase them
Can i find them on ebay?

£60 is alright my garage wanted to charge me £170😔
That’s a bargain. I’d have gone for the £60

Great video and easy to follow instructions - many thanks. £7 for the hinge off Amazon and an hour of my time - result 👍
Glad it helped, its a fair few hundred at the dealer :)
I’ve just been quoted £250 for mine!
I might have a go myself after watching your video!
Thank you ☺️

Thanks you so much for your help! I made it alone for the first time ever. I feel so proud...
And so you should👏🏼 ... its fiddly and the dealer wanted 250 to do it here !
Excellent video. Went through the process painlessly. Thanks
You're welcome! & always keen to save a few quid :)
This will be the third time in 5 years doing this repair for my daughter's Fiat, tomorrow. I'm so sick of this flawed design!
It’s such a pain! You should be a pro at it now 😂. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@DrivenMadShowHow about the driverside with the keylock? Any different?
Thank you so much for this video, I've just changed mines today and yes the screw from Amazon was too short I use back the old screw
Better than forking out at the dealer - thank you :)
Thanks....going to have a go......any idea what the little plastic white threaded part in the replacement kit does?
we believe (not 100%) that it is fitted in the door for screw to locate, just in case the one in the door falls out or is bust.

Thanks for posting, saves a lot of guess work.
No problem!
Mine just broke tonight. Thanks for the upload m8, I need mine for work XD sadly I'll have to fix it outside in 15° weather.
Best of luck - we have our shades on here in Portugal 😎
Thanks for a great instructional video, made this job much easier than it would have been, cheers!

Thank you....this video helped me sort my door handle fault. Saved me money and time :)
You would think FIAT would up the quality a tad :) glad it helped

Hi Nath....
Well done on that tricky little job, the 500 is looking good.

Hi
Are you still happy with the cruise control?
I am planning to do the same.

Complete novice here... mrs' handle has fallen to the same fate. This is very helpful, thank you! Can I ask what grease you used for the hinge? Cheers
K Y jelly lube will make it pull & push with ease 😮
Any automotive grease sufficient, even Vaseline because it's thick & will lubricate hinge & keep moisture out 😮

Another quality bit of lubing. That's the trouble with getting old, you need a bit of assistance.
Random question, what's happened to the Pandas?

Have you got the link to buy the exact hinges you’re using please?

Thanks a bunch... made it very easy and a fast fix :)

Where does the kit plastic part go?
Refresh my memory if wrong - the only bit I recall is the scratch protector that sits inside the handle between it and the door, so the handle does not rub against the paint.
My abarth had a T15 torx instead of a Phillips holding the hinge to the handle
Suspect its different country building them - think they are made in Poland, Italy, Mexico and somewhere else I cannot remember
Does anyone have the part number for that little door handle hinge?
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265085745563 part number shown, but check the year etc, maybe confirm with a dealer
nice video, thank you
Glad you liked it! very kind :)
The Fiat 500x does not have that open access to the lock after removing the door panel. I can’t find a single video on it
Thats a car I would like to own, but never had one - sorry can be of no help, I looked you are right, I cannot see anyone doing it :(
Thank you !!!
You're welcome! - its not too bad a job
Went to look at a Abarth today. Door handle fell off in my hands 😂. Still would buy it for a good deal I suppose.
🤣 they are a bit shit ! all part of the charm
You didn't take off the rods ???
No need for this bit😅
@@DrivenMadShow so the hinge can be changed without the rods being took off , good to know , thanks
Get decent craft knife and pull membrane plastic gently and cut the sealant- also the sealant will stick back together
Good shout !

I’m so not excited to do this job. Just dropped a heap of $$ into fixing up old “abbey” and the door handle goes. FIAT= Fix IT Alotta Times😂
Get someone to hold the door for you (like the old fart I have) and its not that bad - go for it !

Ether the door handle designer is an idiot or doing this on purpose, he should be fired or the car fired?
