@@shirleyyoung1941 I moved from Redlands California, a two hour drive from Los Angeles, to West Valley Utah, next to Salt Lake City in 2020, and am so happy I did. I miss the Southern California weather, but that's it. The last time I went to LA it looked and smelled like the aftermath of the Zombie Apocalypse. When I visit Salt Lake City it's mostly clean, most businesses are open, there's just a small handful of homeless you occasionally see in the downtown area, and it just feels a lot safer. Sure SLC isn't perfect, as no city is, but it's a whole lot better than LA.

That nasty pond in the middle of the city still reminds me of that show Life After People. Total shame what's happened to CA. Lived there for 43 years. I barely recognize it anymore. Even while you passed places on Hollywood Blvd. and at Fisherman's Wharf that I used to go to often. Its great days are far behind it.
The same people and politicians that touted "sanctuary city," and "helping the homeless," will be picking up that premium real estate for pennies on the dollar and cleaning it out. They sold this as a "humanitarian," approach, this sanctuary city malarkey. They are playing the long game. Can't believe they reelected both Pelosi and Newsom.

Many factors are at work to create these situations. This is not limited to California but seems to be present in most if not all big cities. The causes? Inflation, resulting in increases in: rent/lease, business fees, utilities, commodities, taxes,etc. Lack of law enforcement, security, employee safety, theft. Recovery is not going to be so quick if it ever does happen.
