  • California's coastline is one of the most beautiful in the world. There is a section where the coastal HWY 1 goes inland and leaves a part of this rugged coastline and communities on their own. Join me today as we road trip through one of the most beautiful parts of the world and meet up with some fascinating locals who call it home.

Bless her soul 🙏 Such an inspiration. This whole fentanyl epidemic is just crazy. I wonder what's all behind it and why they're not fighting the source in some places. Basic law & order needs to be restored. California is such a beautiful place. As shown in this video. This is liberalism at it finest, but it totally lost it's meaning in the grand scheme. That one sign was telling. Reject socialism. Fight for your freedom. I'm afraid California will never change. The big cities and their politicians will keep this state in a chokehold. But I'm glad there are still common sense people around there living their lives in freedom 🙌

Jim Groeling is an amazing guy. Him and his crew taught me how to do carpentry out in Petrolia about 20 years ago. One day I told Jim that I wanted to start an organic farm at some point and he offered me a piece of land he owned on the spot. "I've always wanted to be part of a farm!" he said. He bought a little tractor, helped me put in an irrigation system, gave me wood for a farm stand and for a few awesome years I ran a little farm right there close to the Petrolia store. He made it happen and I am super grateful.

Yes, you will be rewarded handsomely if you venture into NorCal and Southern Oregon. I've driven most of these roads, and seen so many sites: deep river canyons, various small town museums with pioneer and Chinese histories. I've been to the Honey Dew store 3 times, and it's just quirky enough to bring me back again. There are several Redwood stands close by. Very easy for my imagination to see dinosaurs running to and fro in these forests. You can talk to locals who actually heard some of these trees fall.
In Southern Oregon, there is the Rogue River and the Umpqua river their wild and scenic views, Both rivers lead to one of my most awesome sights in the world: Cater Lake. Throughout my life, I've been to this Blue Wonder 50 times. Throughout both states there are multiple places to learn Indian history. Also with cool small museums. These are just some of those things you can experience. Blessings.

Peter, it blows my mind you made it to Whitethorn! These are parts for California, as a native, we hardly ever talked to outsiders about. What John said about outlaws, that's what we all called ourselves, never criminals. I cried listening to him, the people who paid that kind of price for our lifestyle. It amazes me you're really showing Northern California for what it is. There was a real back to the land movement for a few decades, it will come back to the north. Thanks again for doing us justice.

Thank you Peter for making this video and to see you donate to that treatment center was absolutely amazing! I live in a little village called Dix, Nebraska.
A little back story, my mother was a hippie and my dad was a Hells Angel from the Oakland charter. They met at altamont, you know, the Rolling Stones concert. Anyways, he ended up doing life and my mother ended up addicted to her*in. Somehow I ended up graduating and joined the Army. 20 years later I retired out of FT. Lewis, WA. and moved to Paradise, CA. All of my siblings are addicts or recovering addicts. All of my family members are the same. Anyways the town burned down in 2017 and my wife and I bought an RV and somehow, we ended up buying a place in Dix, NE.
So enough about me. The reason I told you anything about me was because it really hit home when you, so quickly, pulled out what you had and donated, with no hesitation. Truly goes to show just how passionate you are about that subject. That being said, I hope you read this and know that this old Infantry vet. is absolutely impressed with your character and your passion about that subject. So thank you again. I’ve only been back a few times but last summer I played the Roll On The Mattole music festival at the Mattole Grange!!! The live outdoor footage with my band at the end of the music video for Humboldt was from that show on the Lost Coast! Please. You may be talented, and you may have now taken on a role as champion of the little Humboldt guy. Great. But it was not just "a plant" and you are not a poor innocent "local farmer." Pure financial ambition fuels someone showing up from the Midwest to raise a plant that fetched, at the time, literally almost 1000 times what local organic vegetable farmers got for their products. All of us who grew pre-legal weed have been aware of the choices: grow little, keep it low key, and maybe make a little money, enough to get by; or grow a lot, try to make a bundle of money before it's too late, and take a chance on going to jail. You chose the latter, the far end of the benefit/risk spectrum. Fine, that's your choice. But it's tasteless to boo-hoo "...the government arrested me, took my land there and sent me to prison for 5 years for growing a plant!!" when you knowingly gambled, upped the risks as the black market dollar bills danced in your eyes, and paid the price. Now you're still milking that, as it apparently sells. Ambition is a helluva habit.

      Dear Laura,
A war on a plant doesn’t change the fact that it is and was indeed “just a plant.” Cannabis has been cultivated for thousands of years and will likely be cultivated for many more. I am truly grateful you were never sent to prison for growing weed. By the standard of the antiquated law any amount could have landed you in jail.
I’m honestly not sure why you make it a point to publicly criticize nearly every news article, video or musical endeavor I am a part of but I sincerely hope you can forgive what ever wrong doing you feel I am responsible for. I know first hand how resentments can lead to a bitter and lonely life. If I ever see you again, I’ll offer you nothing but kindness and respect. I’ve been a patron of your store and always appreciated how you serve the community.

I’m English but fascinated by the frontier mentality of places like this. Making it on your own. Starting a new life and working together. England, and Britain and Europe in general, lost so many of these minded people who went to America and the mentality is still embedded in these people now.

I lived on my 80 acres near Honeydew from 1982 to 2005, the boom years. Really cool to see Jim. He was a very talented builder in the area and I guess still is. So glad you ran in to Jim because he is a very grounded guy and was with the first wave of back to the landers in the area. My place was originally in a Bob McKee development. Jim built so many incredible buildings over the years. You can be sure though that no locals can spend that kind of money on boards as beautiful as they are. It was much more free back in the day. Nobody got building permits. I finally had to leave because the grow scene got to crazy and the county started coming down with draconian building code enforcements and tax increases, etc. My pond was built in 1976 and the state tried to fine the guy who bought my place for stream mitigations. The pond wasn't even in the stream. Another thing that happened is the state regulators forced land owners to pay a yearly fee for using water from springs on their land that they had been already using for decades. Ironically I had to move to a less liberal place where there was no government over reach yet. At least not as much. A place where the taxes are lower and you can still build without a permit. Yes, I was one of the mom and pop growers that Jim talks about. I made a living on 20-50 plants! You are so lucky that you found Jim because he is a wellspring of knowledge and has such a balanced view of the scene over the years.

John’s story is heartbreaking, so sorry.
I was an undercover police officer in the 1980’s, I put many people away for dealing in Marijuana!
Today I live in a 55+ community, we have a cannabis shop right across the street, and everyone around me is smoking cannabis or taking gummies!
It’s difficult for me to wrap my head around this.
I put people away for something that is not only legal today but is helping so many with their medical ailments!
    GOD Bless you John.

Peter, first I want to thank you for taking us along on your adventures, thru you I get to see places and "meet" people that I'll never be able to as my health isn't good. This video was AMAZING!! I shed some tears several times, tears of Pride for the young woman who beat fentanyl ❤ Super proud of her and the place that helped her to succeed!! My jaw dropped at the beauty of the coastline and for the craftsmanship of the couple who make all the gorgeous furniture and I love their home that her parents built!! The last story my emotions were everywhere and in the end I was crying hard hearing about his mom's passing. None of what he endured NEVER should have happened to him,, it took 8 years of his life away from his family. He's a good man to not harbor any anger about it. In 82 I was a 16 yrs old that was babysitting a toddler girl when a barrage of police busted thru the door scaring both myself and the little girl. They made me lay down screaming at me wanting to know where so and so where, I told them I was the babysitter and they were working. I was pretty much hysterical. Once they realized that I was an innocent kid they got me calm down but then forced me to call the parents home telling them it's an emergency and they hid their cars. Parents came running in to find me sitting and holding their daughter both of us crying and suddenly a bunch of guns were drawn and yelling telling them to get down. I still didn't know why, one officer took me home. My mom and I learned on the news that night the couple were arrested for growing marijuana, their daughter went to live with her aunt and they both served 10 years in prison for a plot of pot no bigger than an average vegetable garden. They'd planted 2 rows of corn around the outer edges to conceal it but the cops found it via a helicopter flyby. Marijuana isn't a devil weed for God's sake, I'm just glad that the government has finally seen that after they've put too many people thru an awful lot of undeaerved trauma.
