I absolutely love that you didn’t make this video about “the haunting of Peg Entwistle” like most usually do. Her story is far more than some Hollywood ghost story. The way you presented it was very real and grounded - thank you!

To walk in the middle of the night all the way up to the Hollywood sign back in 1932 (where I'm guessing the trail would've been nothing more than a tiny walking track) it's a scary enough story as it is, so what she must been thinking, the despair she must of felt as she made her way to the sign. Its such a sad story.

Absolutely heartbreaking that she got the part after her death. I know what it’s like to be in that mental place, cannot even imagine what it was like for her. I’m a 61 year old native Angeleno. I live on Detroit right by LaBrea & Fountain. Like you, I always marvel everytime I see the Hollywood Sign. I love this city and its history both the good and bad. The Peg Entwistle story is one of those stories which fascinated me since I first heard it as a kid. Back in 1965 we lived on Beachwood just off Melrose across from the Paramount Studios, Desilu & the Nickodell Restaurant where we’d see Lucille Ball having lunch. The Nickodell was right on the corner where the old RKO Studio Tower Ball was located. Ever since I was a kid I’ve been interested in all things Hollywood because as a native it’s our modern history. I love when you guys do a video in the Los Angeles area (and especially Hollywood). I’d love to get a coffee and talk with you folks about the history of Hollywood. There’s so much more to Hollywood than the movie industry… The musical history… the Mickey Cohen era. Keep up the fantastic work. Happy Halloween to you Michael & Jessica (and Happy New Year). ✌🏽❤️🎥

Holy shit! You got to go down to the actual sign. That is amazing. Great work, great research and delivery. Hollywood is near and dear to me. I have the Bukowski Hollywood cover tattooed on my arm, plus my first two babies were born there. Also, as a person that lost two friends in Los Angeles to Suicide it's a good thing to bring awareness and empathy to such a permanent choice.

I'm not a historian on the Hollywood sign itself, but I lived and grew up here in S. Ca., specifically City of Norwalk in L.A. County.
I remember seeing the Hollywood sign looking really worn down and awful in about 1978.
Okay, had to look this part up on the sign. By 1939, no money was available to maintain it and in 1944, the Hollywoodland development ended and it fell into disrepair.
The "H" even fell over and stayed that way for 5 years until 1949 when the City repaired the sign and "land" was removed from it completely.
Thank you, Michael, for the nicely done video on Peg and the legacy surrounding her short career there. Always looks good on the 4K 32" monitor for the computer.
Happy New Year 2025 to both of you!

When you walked out on Beachwood Dr. after leaving her home, I noticed multiple dingbat apartment houses, for which LA is famous. I know you're not an architecture channel, but Los Angeles also has tons of Googie architecture. Don't forget bungalow court homes. I love LA style and how it's endured.

The juxtaposed setting of the the old RKO studios bumping right up against the Hollywood Forever Cemetary is so symbolic of the death of the old-school, heyday of Hollywood. The Hollywood and stars of today is vastly different than what we have today (I'm not criticizing - just saying it is a very different feeling for Hollywood today).
The number of people that struggle with depression and find suicide as their solution is extremely sad. I truly wish that Peg had sought and found an alternative way of dealing with her struggles.
It is great that you got access to Peg's old residence and, of course, the Hollywood sign. That's just crazy and exemplifies what you do best - this kind of story telling isn't easy as you have to research and compress so much information into a digestable walking history narrative. Thank you for taking the time to give us another one of these walking history stories! I vaguely remember hearing about Peg's story, but I never knew any of the details.
I saw a bunch of speakers, cameras, and motion sensors on the sign - I assume that is to warn off unauthorized visitors.
PS - We miss Jessica - Great to see her back in action!

Beautiful video. What a kind woman to let you visit her house and film it to show where Peg lived. Very kind. Peg's suicide note just crushes your heart, she was not a coward, not even a tiny bit. Mental pain is the worst pain there is and back then there was not much help. She must have suffered a lot. This was a great video, also love the information about the Hollywood sign, just looked up an old photo and it was fun to see it was indeed called Hollywoodland. Amazing video, just like always =3.

Michael, your video skills are just AWESOME! Great, great camerawork!! Also, your brilliant commentary was thoughtful and respectful while still maintaining the excitement of your 'grim' adventure. I took my own hike up to the sign in the 1970's -- I had a girlfriend who lived on Beachwood Dr. -- and I'm familiar with those ethereal vibes and feelings of Hollywood nostalgia that the sign will evoke. When I was up there, before the renovation, it was spooky and dangerous. The original letters were rusting and falling apart, many of the dilapidated corrugated metal panels were loose and just hanging off their attachments to the huge, rotting, telephone-pole frames. Corroded steel cables, as your video shows, snaked everywhere around the base. There was very little security then. Thank you for taking me back up to the HOLLYWOOD sign again!

Awesome job taking us along your journey! The long walk to Peg’s end really gives perspective. She must have planned and thought about this for some time before she absolutely decided her fate. Thank you again!

Such a respectful and heartfelt telling of a tragedy. Michael, you have such a way of being so respectful. Awesome to see babyghoul again. Love you both. The pictures that you showed of Peg, such a beautiful lady. Hollywood can be harsh sometimes. It's funny, I have lived in California all my life, and never took the time to really study the history it holds.
Love to you and babyghoul. God bless your journeys.

Thank you SO much for telling the story of Peg Entwistle! So many stories about the "crazy lady" who jumped off the sign which aren't true, but still believed. She wasn't a "crazy lady", she was a poor lost soul who simply reached the end of her rope and the knot came untied. Back in the day (mid-60's) I used to hike & camp in those hills and even with the city so close, it was cold, VERY dark, and lonely up there. I can't begin to imagine what was going through her mind in that country knowing she was going up there to die.
The "Hollywood" sign will always be her marker and remind us what life can give... and take away.
Rest in Peace, Peg... you deserve a break.

Thought you covered this story before, maybe somebody else did....too much true crime...lol
    (Later, after watching) .....
I take it back, very well done. A very up close, and very personal look at one of the oldest and saddest true Hollywoodland stories. You have shown us the most detailed, and emotional display of the path that led to Pegs end, leaving her house, passing through the Hollywoodland Archways, walking up the slope, climbing the sign, and you literally touched them all as she did!, I got nervous chills as you touched the sign. Haunting, sad, historical.

Awesome as usual! There is the ‘Peg Entwistle’, the symbol for Hollywood lost dreams, and Ms. Entwistle the real person who tried to live life the best she could. The way you two tell the real stories, of real people, shows how much respect you have for people.

Absolutely awesome! I'm fascinated with the Hollywood sign. This video gave me a great idea for a follow up video. You mentioned the old sign wouldn't it be cool to track that down and see if it still exists? Who knows could be in a old warehouse. Great video!

I've actually got a big blown up picture of the Misfits with downtown L.A in the background hanging on my home studio wall, I've been there several times, but not all the way up to the sign..
never knew peg lived right there on beachwood though. That's pretty cool to know.

A Great video, very moving one at that, made me tear up by the end. Reminded me, of me coming a hairs breadth away from taking my own life back in 2006. I reached out to try to talk to friends here in the UK, with no reply.
I phoned my sister who lives in New Zealand, she phoned me back. I was seriously in debt of rent arrears on my apartment, had an eviction notice served to me, looked at over twenty years worth of stuff, plus not having the money to pay the arrears off in one lump sum & thought, that’s it. Thankfully, my sister spoke to me & stopped it, yes, I came out the other side, but, Peg never did. I am glad to still be here, keep up the Great work Michael & Jessica, thank you for allowing me to be a member with you & everyone else…. Happy Halloween 🎃👻💀☠️😊
