Peter, I grew up here, and went thru my entire school years here. My younger sister was born in Weaverville, in 1965. My older brother died here in 69, and the entire community paid for all of his services, my parents never seen a bill. My Dad worked the Trinity Lumber co. And retired from there. He also managed the Trinity Lanes bowling alley for many years. It's my greatest wish, to live there again. It's an amazing place to raise children. Thank you SO MUCH for covering Weaver ville so respectfully. But I must say, you missed A LOT, go back another time, there's so much more to see!❤❤❤❤❤

THANK YOU for covering Northern California, it's a completely different world from socal and we have IMMENSE pride that you are really doing us justice with this series. Thank you! You've been my favorite youtuber for some time now.
We just moved from SoCal to the Sacramento area, and I cannot get enough of this series. It’s amazing how much “unknown” California there is. Thank you as always, Peter.
I live in the Sacramento area as well ( Rocklin ) and I also came up from Southern California over 25 years ago. Welcome! This is a great place to be. Explore the mountains and the rivers! It’s absolutely beautiful here! 😊
I am so incredibly grateful for your videos, I love seeing the real USA that we cant see in any other medias. Thank you Peter and I hope you and your family have a nice and peaceful Christmas, big love from Finland.
@@PeterSantenelloI love your videos Peter. Grew up in Sweden and lived in California for 20 years. Some of my favorite places I hope you will visit: Nevada City, Bonny Doon, Mendocino, Arnold. Thanks for all these videos
Peter- while I’m not from Trinity Co. I am from another poor NorCal county and I have to say thank you for your recent series of videos highlighting the forgotten parts of this state. It’s a message we need people to hear. Our “representatives” in Sacramento have abandoned the traditional industries of our area and our communities are in shambles because of it. Thank you again for spreading the word.
I grew up in San Diego and moved to Fortuna (humboldt county) when I was around 14 years old. This whole area captivates like no other place I've ever seen. I've been lucky enough to have been coast to coast multiple times, and to other countries. To be here on vacation is amazing, but to live here is even better. Yes the economy and opportunities is low, unfortunately that's the cost of being rural and remote. Even though I loved growing up in san diego, being able to wake up to fog coming off the mountains surrounding you on a crisp morning, then later go down to swim in pristine rivers in 90 degree summer sun, is something you never forget. We get storms and get cold (especially with snow in the mountains), where you bring out the ole soup and winter comfort food, and get the fire going. Then in summer you have hot days with clear skies. I remember the feeling of being a kid and going out of the city to go camping as a trip, up here, it has the same exact feeling by simply stepping outside and looking around. Most of us up here don't even have camping gear because it's so close to just go back home lol
Look at the large buildings in the video. Lack of economic opportunity is something that was done to these communities; it's not the result of their physical location.
My wife and I are living in South Carolina since 2015 moving here from Redding CA. Been in the same places in this video many times. Thanks for the memories. Loved to see these places again.
After watching Peter's videos for a few years, it's insanely satisfying to see him cover the area I live in. Thank you to Peter and his very talented editor wife👏👏👏
Peter is extremely intelligent and if you're an intelligent viewer you can pick up on some things... for example the guy in the CAT shirt outside the BBQ place I think Peter recognized he's probably still on some sort of drugs after his divorce, but he doesn't talk about it directly, instead mentions the girl he met who was saved by rehab. Very good skills.
100% you can see the guy felt uncomfortable with the topic, then Peter diverts the topic to the Bridges that he built in the past. But honestly top notch work👌
I sensed a wounded man, but as I've never been around or seen anyone on hard drugs.... Wow. I'd never really appreciated the fact it's so uncommon here in my rural patch in maritime Nova Scotia. Probably here somewhere but not in your face.
Thank you Peter for showing the true economic impact in northern California due to the legalization of marijuana. My family has been in the Redding area since 1852. My grandparents owed a bar durig the construction of the dam in Lewiston. It was called the Hen House and is now in Redding and also not in the family anymore. I grew up in paradise but now live in Riverside CA. Northern California is a part of California that few people get to see but it is a true uncut gem of the state. Peter I hope you have the time to go to Paradise California and maybe do a video on the camp fire that wiped out over 90% of the town in 2018.
Anyone who actually read 65 before it passed could tell it was to set up the rich to succeed and eliminate the small farms. Miss the SB215 days, miss being able to actually look at and smell buds in a dispensary. When high quality sun-grown didn’t have to be given away for free essentially. Good ol California
I wish I wasn’t caught up with Peter’s videos! Every time I finish one I think to myself “Well, what am I going to do now ‘til next Saturday?” Haha! Thanks for these Peter! Good way to spend a Saturday morning.
Same 😂 I look fwd to his videos and have withdrawals when their isn’t one 😂 I’m in Aus so it’s my Sunday here, I look fwd to my Sunday morning cuppa and breakfast/brunch with Peter every week..such an amazing guy with awesome content especially when you haven’t travelled but love seeing other countries. At least we get the real story on these places not what the main stream media wants us to see. 🙏🏼
North Californian here. We’re essentially a different state. You leave Sacramento and can drive on I5 for 6hrs north before you hit Oregon and have a population less than a million people in geographic area larger than most states. It’s just farming, cattle and forests. I love it. Just wish we weren’t attached to the rest of the state.
Wish I could afford to live up there. SO tired of city life, meth heads thugs everywhere traffic. Impossible to enjoy life this way. Give me some coast, mountains to explore place to fish Im happy and need for nothing.
You missed Columbia/Sonora California outside of Yosemite!! Lots of History there and beauty and the activity's there. Always a pleasure watching your videos Peter. Your currently close to Hwy 95 that leads you through Winnemuca, Nevada Eastern Oregan and eventually into booming Boise Idaho. Best of Luck on your aventures and thank you for your past videos on Hawaii. Loved it.
Southern California, Central California, and Norther California all have rural areas. People use San Diego, LA, and San Fransisco as examples all the time but California has huge rural areas...and no one was trying to take your guns lol.
The old mining town of Columbia California, near Jamestown, has underground tunnels like that. All the shops on the main street had access. The old soda shop has an access-way you can go down to see part of the tunnels, which have been blocked off, supposedly. It's really neat. They had opium dens down there and other interesting things.
I could be wrong but you might be thinking about downtown Sonora, just down the road from Columbia. I’ve never heard of tunnels under Columbia but I’ve been in the tunnels under Sonora.
@jakedixon9615 you are correct. It was almost 20 years ago, I stayed in Sonora, and that's where I saw those tunnels. I visited Columbia where the 'haunted ' hotel was. I was trying to remember the town and Columbia came to mind. Thanks for jogging my memory 😆
I am from France and I really really appreciate your channel... Very interesting and many interactions with the locals... It's very very sincere... Thank you 👍
Now that you mention it, that's true. Peter shares HH's love not only for our vast and varied state, but the people as well. Steve, from Sidetrack Adventures is another YT explorer of California and the Southwest, but he doesn't do interviews. Gotta say, I miss Huell's sweet southern drawl.
To the lady at around 41:00 talking about state of Jefferson... I generally like the idea of people coming together to organize for self determination, but I don't think they actually consider the consequences of a Jefferson. This video is literally about the "poorest county" and Jefferson would be completely comprised of the poorest counties of CA, OR, maybe NV & ID. They seem to believe that the productive, liberal cities are "stealing" their taxes and they don't see any benefits. There might be some specific examples where this is somewhat true, but in aggregate, rural, red areas benefit far more from state & federal public funds than they lose. There just isn't an economic base to fund/maintain the infrastructure that makes their lives possible with only local taxes. I can appreciate that most of the people that live there are highly self sufficient, but Jefferson would rate like a 3rd world country if they didn't have the rest of of the state supporting them.
On the flipside, the natural resources they possess, water, timber, virgin forest, fertile land, (gold?), etc. could make them one of the richest "States" in the union, especially if it's unfettered by a corrupt California Govt. hamstringing them with laws to control them. e.g. wildlife deemed "endangered" by clueless city folk (spotted Owl).
@@weffyj6427 Show me an example of a country or state that reached sustainable prosperity by relying on base resource extraction industries. Those types of undiversified economies tend to have slim profit margins making them very fragile against shocks in the markets. The booms and busts hit extra hard, and lots of people end up ruined. Not to mention, those types of economies are MORE susceptible to corporate & political corruption. But go ahead, cut down all your old growth forests. Then what? When it's gone, it's gone, and takes centuries to regrow, and still will never be the same. When the ecology is wrecked, it has a negative effect on agriculture too. Tourism is a better way to use the natural beauty, if managed responsibly, in my opinion.
Thanks for this series Peter. I live in the remote Northern California coast and it's so good to see a series that is actually a true representation of this place.
I am a Brazilian living with my family around St Louis Missouri (transferred from Brazil by the employer) for three years and we love this Country. Your amazing videos also help everyone to connect to very different places. Congrats. Merry Christmas!!

Thank you for representing California in all it's complexity. Folks from out of state rarely have any idea how vast our state is. Come visit Hopland, CA!
The beauty of that town really shows the importance of community. People care and put effort in to keep it nice, even without a lot of money. I hope new folks moving in see it that way
Butte County native here. Always have heard about Weaverville but I've never been there. Thank you for the tour of Trinity county. Northern California is such beautiful country.
her grandmother and great uncle are still alive and live in trinity center. I know them well and knew their father ed too. Ed came to the area in about 1915
I live in very rural Australia and your show drops o/n for me. It's really hard making myself do the chores before sitting down on a Sunday morning with my cuppa and watch my weekly dose at 8am. I've travelled most of Australia and just like you the more you see, the more you want to see. The best part is finding "little" havens like what youve found in Nth Cal 💜
Pendleton, Oregon has an underground tunnel system too, for the same reason as Weaverville. They might still have tours you can take of the underground and if so, it's really interesting.
@@yearight5303Since when has the left given different results? Why is rural CA suffering again? Couldn’t be all the environmentalists ensuring the key industries shut down or dwindle away with impossible goals right?! How about our forest management? The valley farms. How’s that delta smelt treating ya 🤦🏻♂️
An old friend of mine, John McTeer, (born in 1920) said his brother went to Weaverville in the 1950s and he never heard from him again. John died in 1997 and this has always bothered me.
He showed that missing person poster in Salyer. In his last few videos, from Mendocino, Humboldt and here in Trinity County has one of the highest missing persons rate in the country. To this day people go missing. It is the least densely populated area in the country and its all mountains. Sorry about your friend.

I love "living vicariously" or what they say, through your videos, Peter. I so much appreciate these NorCal videos. My family moved to Humboldt last year and it is an amazing and fascinating experience. We have learned a lot about our new home and what we’re surrounded by. Thank you so much!
Great video ❤ my older brother Paul attended and graduated from Humbolt University. We grew up not too far south of Redding . So it brought back a lot of memories of being 11 and traveling through Trinity County and stopping in these wonderful little towns for a cold drink or a snack and how friendly everyone was. Later I traveled through on my own excursion at about 19 and then again about 10 years later when my daughter was 6 on our way to take her to see the ocean for the first time. The people are friendly there and and it was good to see Weaverville still looking good and all the little places hanging in there strong ❤
Especially when those of the bay area call themselves "northern" California when they live 4 hours from the northern border. I like the theory they call it that so they can claim it is "their" water they're taking.

@@gordocarbo a temporary, circumstantial move. It's not easy to get back to Santa Barbara once someone leaves because the home prices rise and have risen so dramatically. Ventura is a good choice, at least much less expensive than Santa Barbara and much better than LA. Unfortunately a lot of the smaller, most affordable towns up north or elsewhere in California have high crime rates and/or are extremely right wing.
I'm a socal native, but I lived and spent a lot of time in Humboldt/Trinity area. Thank you for showing people what I've been talking about. It's gorgeous, the people are amazing and no one ever shows the true beauty California has to offer.

Peter, Thank you for showcasing Trinity County on your recent video. My wife and I have watched you travel through northern California and really enjoyed your journey, along with your other adventures. We have lived in Weaverville for only a few years but have owned a place here for over 10 years. Trinity County, as you have witnessed, is a place that people always come back to after they leave to search for greener pasture. We may be the poorest county in California, but the richest in beauty and history. There is so much more to see and do than most would never know. (Maybe that's why Woody Harrelson visits frequently). Thank you for your visit, and remember you are always welcome here to enjoy what Trinity County has to offer. Happy travels, and keep showing us places we may never know about or ever see.
Another great trip Peter! Reminds me of the Tahoe Days in spots. You DO remember the Tahoe days, right? LOL! Have you visited Hangtown, Coloma, Georgetown, etc.? California is vast and it takes a very long time to truly see just a small portion of it. Thanks for taking us there! Keep up the great work my friend!

My grandfather was from Fortuna ❤❤
I’m so envious! I long to live in a place just like this!🙏❤️
Look at the large buildings in the video. Lack of economic opportunity is something that was done to these communities; it's not the result of their physical location.
You described life here beautifully
I grew up in Fortuna! Loved it!!
Thanks for visiting Trinity County and Trinity Center! We are very remote, but we have some of the best people and scenery in the country!

CAT dude did seem to be tweaking a little bit.
100% you can see the guy felt uncomfortable with the topic, then Peter diverts the topic to the Bridges that he built in the past. But honestly top notch work👌
I could tell by the man's speech and how his orbicularis oris (mouth muscle) was performing.
I sensed a wounded man, but as I've never been around or seen anyone on hard drugs.... Wow. I'd never really appreciated the fact it's so uncommon here in my rural patch in maritime Nova Scotia. Probably here somewhere but not in your face.
Yes, I agree with you. I noticed that about that guy too

Thank you Peter for showing the true economic impact in northern California due to the legalization of marijuana. My family has been in the Redding area since 1852. My grandparents owed a bar durig the construction of the dam in Lewiston. It was called the Hen House and is now in Redding and also not in the family anymore. North Californian here. We’re essentially a different state.
@@jakedixon9615 Heard it was common to use them for Shanghai-ing slave labor, selling them to ships etc.
I wouldn’t doubt many of the 49 mining towns are that way. Placerville is the same with tunnels

Thank you,from southern oregon.

Thank you for showcasing Trinity County on your recent video. My wife and I have watched you travel through northern California and really enjoyed your journey, along with your other adventures. We have lived in Weaverville for only a few years but have owned a place here for over 10 years. Trinity County, as you have witnessed, is a place that people always come back to after they leave to search for greener pasture.
