  • ► GREATER CREATORS: is a series profiling some of the greatest artists of the 20th century who defined and influenced popular art today.
    ► ABOUT: "Since 1948, Alejandro Jodorowsky has worked as a novelist, a storyteller, a poet, a playwright, an essayist, a film director and producer, an actor in cinematic and theatre productions, a theatre director, a screenwriter, a film editor, a comics writer, a musician and composer, a philosopher, a puppeteer, a mime, a psychologist and psychoanalyst, a draughtsman, a painter, a sculptor and a spiritual guru. Best known for his avant-garde films, he has been "venerated by cult cinema enthusiasts" for his work which "is filled with violently surreal images and a hybrid blend of mysticism and religious provocation".
    Jodorowsky started his comic career in Mexico with the creation of Anibal 5 series in mid-1966 with illustrations by Manuel Moro. He also drew his own comic strip in the weekly series Fabulas pánicas that appeared in the Mexican newspaper, El Heraldo de México. He also wrote original stories for at least two or three other comic books in Mexico during those days: Los insoportables Borbolla was one of them. After his fourth film, Tusk, he started The Incal, with Jean Giraud (Mœbius). This graphic novel has its roots deep in the tarot and its symbols, e.g., the protagonist of The Incal, John Difool, is linked to the Fool card. The Incal (which would branch off into a prequel and sequel) forms the first in a sequence of several science fiction comic book series, all set in the same space opera Jodoverse (or "Metabarons Universe") published by Humanoids Publishing." - Wikipedia
    "Comic books set in this milieu are Incal (trilogy: Before the Incal/ Incal/ Final Incal), Metabarons (trilogy: Castaka/ The Caste of the Metabarons/ Weapons of the Metabaron), and The Technopriests and also a RPG adaptation, The Metabarons Roleplaying Game. Many ideas and concepts derived from Jodorowsky's planned adaptation of Dune (which he would have only loosely based upon Frank Herbert's original novel) are featured in this universe. Mœbius and Jodorowsky sued Luc Besson, director of The Fifth Element, claiming that the 1997 film borrowed graphic and story elements from The Incal, but they lost their case. The suit was plagued by ambiguity since Mœbius had willingly participated in the creation of the film, having been hired by Besson as a contributing artist, but had done so without gaining the approval of Incal co-creator Jodorowsky, whose services Besson did not call upon. For more than a decade, Jodorowsky pressured his publisher Les Humanoïdes Associés to sue Luc Besson for plagiarism, but the publisher refused, fearing the inevitability of the final outcome. In a 2002 interview with the Danish comic book magazine Strip!, Jodorowsky stated that he considered it an honour that somebody stole his ideas." - Wikipedia Jodorowsky

    I actually got to meet the guy a few years ago. It was in a cafe, he gave me a couple of his cards and a small snail toy he told me was made of horse hair. He didn’t know how to say horse hair in English so he just made galloping gestures and rubbed his hands through my hair. They still sit on my bedside.

    I've seen that documentary and one thing I know for sure: I wouldn't have let that man anywhere close to my beloved DUNE-universe. And I think Frank Herbert kinda hated him too. Still, he had powerful visuals and acid-trips movies to be sure.

    • @paulobernardo8593
      @paulobernardo8593 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jodorowsky is best when he does Jodorowsky (his own thing). I wish Jodorowsky or nicholas winding refn adapts all his graphic novels which are masterpieces into movie trilogies or long tv series whether live action or animated. For me, He can still continue the so called failed dune project. He can still re structured it without ruining his original ideas, he can still retain the giant worms, there were movies with giant worms anyway like tremors, remove all dune references, replace the movie title dune, replace the characters name and create a new universe independent of dune and more faithful to his own vision. That would be great, in my opinion.

    • @paulobernardo8593
      @paulobernardo8593 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jodorowsky has his own Jodoverse,which is imaginative by itself, he does not need to bother the dune universe anymore in my opinion.

  • @DevastatorJr

    Down here in Chile, where he's from, most people are divided on him. His stuff is way too fucking out there for the masses to, at the very least, watch or read anything by him, and his psychomagic is so out left field that whenever he gets into the subjects of gender or sex, a lot of people just label him as a him a misogynist quack.
    Can't say I'm into his Tarot endeavors, I don't believe in that stuff one bit, but everything else I've read or watched by him or about him has been fascinating. I have to keep reminding myself to buy a copy of The Incal, read it so long ago and every time I plan to do it again, I stop myself from looking for it online. I need that hard copy.

    Hey could you possibly ever cover the 90's RP Game Vampire The Masquerade? The game was/is still great b/c it's one of the few RP games that forces everyone of its players to delve into their own deepest unconscious parts of themselves and bring it to light. If The GM is good and understand the more cerebral and psychological side of the game, each player(depending how long and committed to the game they are)will learn aspects of themselves they never knew existed. Mark Rheinhagen created something amazing when he created White Wolf's World of Darkness Vampire The Masquerade.
